BIG thanks to the Magnificent Bastard Carl Ivey for the bottle. Cheers to you!

The quality of a whiskey can be determined by how much Rex wants to steal it.
Exactly! If he isn't trying to run out of the room with it, it's not top of shelf hahaha.
I won a lottery, which gave me the opportunity to buy GTS 2020 for $130. It's by far the BEST bourbon I've ever had!
Utah?
The bourbon guys are definitely really happy right now after y’all have posted a Bardstown, Still Austin, and George T Stagg back to back😂😂
In 2020 I was in a whiskey raffle situation. I was really too poor to be there and had only bought one ticket. They brought out the GTS and called my number! I got the one bottle everyone there was gunning for! Got home and tried it out, it tasted great, it tasted like victory!
Good Morning, Happy Thursday Magnificent Bastards!
That’s a very generous donation.
Carl’s a good friend of mine. He’s a very generous and overall great guy!
and wealthy, you forgot very wealthy
Any relation to the governor of Alabama?
@@StonedSpagooter he does ok haha
@@jackwoodford519 not that I'm aware of!
The hippo's are from Fantasia, NOT an acid trip movie, Walt Disney.
Fantasia is sort of a trippy movie...
Ive watched it on acid and went to the live show on shrooms
You have obviously never watched Fantasia on acid. It be trippin'.
@@Anthony69420 Wow, you were in the audience in 1940 watching it live on shrooms?
@@rossfudd256 those old Disney movies got regular periodic showings at theaters, and still sometimes do, up until home video became common in the late 80s.
Interesting… I can’t believe you made it through the video without mentioning that there was no GTS made in 2021. Also, 2019 is considered somewhat off profile for GTS, but I like it a lot.
We're not trying to humor Buffalo Trace's antics any more than they already are
Waited a long time for this one!!!! One of my favorite pours ever
Oh dang. Someone went all in on the donation.
It’s a $120 bottle retail. That is a generous donation. Hopefully he paid retail for it.
Woa! Stagg! Now we’re drinking!! I last had the 2014 one. Liquid gold.
Man you guys made me fall in love with Whiskey... Binge watching and Bingle drinking... Loved the Singleton 18 Glendullan ... Would love to know your thoughts. 🥂 I have watched and rewatched most of your episodes on both the channels , love the chemistry.
Rarely do I immediately go back and re-watch an episode...this one was worth it. I loved it and laughed mightily at the end!
Someday, one day, I shall get my hands on this!
The ballerina hippos is from Fantasia
You have greatly increased my whiskey knowledge and consumption. Thank you and damn you. :D
The excitement Rex was trying to contain in the beginning while Daniel gave the bottle info was priceless. I’m shocked we didn’t see a bit of drool go down his beard.
I'm thankful it was an above the waist shot.
Don’t know why Buffalo trace decided to lower the proof on these bottles , but I have 142 proof bottle from some yrs ago. That is the true version of GTS that needs to be reviewed.
Send it over... to me.
They didn't decide to... its just what was in those particular casks after 15 years. Maybe that's part of why they decided not to release one this year? 🤷♂
@@DDugger The 2021 barrels BT earmarked did not have the flavor profile they wanted for George T. Stagg. If I have to guess something in the production (distillation or the oak barrels for maturation) went wrong 15 years ago.
It could be that they lowered the proof to try and make it more available to more people? Just thinking outloud on it really as I don't know a lot of the particulars. That's just what would make sense to me.
@@paladonis GTS is always bottled unfiltered at natural cask strength. "Uncut and unfiltered" is on the label, that's the contract to the customer that the whisky isn't proofed down.
I got in line like I was waiting for the new PlayStation for the 2020 GTS. After my first taste, I tried it with a large ice cube…it was the first bourbon to make me grin from ear to ear, with every sip. The Stagg Jr is equally amazing.
BTW, dancing elephants happened in Dumbo, but ballerina hippos happened in Fantasia…and psychedelics worked for both of them (in the late 80s…don’t have the energy for that shit anymore💀)
The bottle I've had for a while, don't know the year, is 71.5%. Yes, 71.5%. Whew!
Woah!
@@SanskarWagley Sometimes I add a drop of water to get it down to a soft and easy 125 proof.😁
you know its good if the boys actually talk about bourbon.
Was it Fantasia with the hippos?
That’s from "Dance of the Hours" from the original Fantasia.
Lol at Dexter wanting to take it to his "Lab bor a tory."
So does this make Daniel Deedee?!😂🤪
I have a question, so I have been watching the whiskey vault and the whiskey tribe for little while now, to learn as much possible as I can about whiskey and what is available. I just watched on the whiskey tribe episode when you went to Waterford distillery in Ireland and I think it’s was really cool that they are giving Credit to the farmers who are growing the grains for them to make their whiskey and I know Bruichladdich is do something similar, but are there any American distilleries doing this ? I love the idea of from farm to bottle process and that every one involved gets recognition for their hard work.
Widow Jane is doing something similar with corn. They have partnered with farmers around the US to produce the corn form them. They also have some heirloom corn varieties for some of the product line.
Watching @ 9.30 pm 🙌
My favorite. Definitely one of my top shelf of Bourbons in my vault
Something I'll probably never taste in my lifetime...but good on you blessed men.
Good morning everyone, rise and shine
Good on ya😁... I'm new to the channel can't stop watching and learning more than I could believe possible. Thank you magnificent bastards😁
Good Morning Gentlemen.
George T Stagg is the bourbon, that shows all other bourbons how to be bourbon. Its the mentor, the professor of bourbons. Its not out there trying to be anything its not, but is perfect at what it is.
All these major distilleries basically just make large batch, almost no cut, crap that the barrels age out.
Not impressed with any commerical bourbon. I enjoy most, except budget crap and Jack Daniels, but it's all full of heads and tails big time
That edit where we watch Daniel botch the foil removal.
Expert editor touch.
"Carl Ivey you HOLY HELL" i haven't seen Rex this bottle struck in so long
Man I'd love to see an A/B comparison of the 2018 version too if you can get your hands on it.
Fantasia. IMHO the best Disney animated film ever.
Kool review
Carl Ivey, legend.
I picked up my first bottle of Redbreast cask strength the other day. Beautiful whiskey. Half way through my first glass I dropped a drop of water in it and whoa did it turn spicy.
Soooo funny!! Great episode guys!
I got a 2020 GTS at retail right before Xmas. I never thought I'd get one for that price. Knee pads not necessary! Support your local shops.
Holy thats a rare whiskey friday imo lol if I stumble upon a few grand I'll give her a go lol doubtful
Make friends with a distributor/liquor store owner.
GOOD MORNING YOU MB'S.... 🥃
Your audio's a little scratchy on this week's reviews.
I can't believe that's the first thing I'm mentioning in a GTS review.
Also, that was a great brow raise!
I hate to admit that I love when Daniel has been more consistently grabbing side-by-sides to check the flavors. It's appealing I think we should move forward with it haha!
Also, do the whiskeys actually have bits and bobs in their recipes that would justify all the amazing smells you get from sniffing or Is it the case of smell is in the nose of the beholder?
Lastly thanks Rex, I laughed the laugh exuding tears for minutes from the Lab comment
A whiskey is water and grain. If anything else is added, it must be marketed as a flavored whiskey.
is it just me or is someones mic having some static going on in the last couple episodes?
Guys. I have a 50 plus year old bottle of dimple pinch. Is it any good? Is it really good? Love the channel
"Carl you argeveagea HOLY HELL ... you magnificent bastard!" -Rex
Daniel I think the special release term you were looking for is BTAC, Buffalo Trace Antique Collection.
This is so crazy, I was in Austin last weekend and got to try George T. Stagg and Still Austin cask strength!
Disney's Fantasia was the feature with a Hippo doing ballet.
I have found with Cass strength Whiskey's that the neck pour will generally be a lot heavier / oilier resulting in being smoother than the rest of the bottle. Could this be from the oils separating in the whiskey and collecting in the neck?
Myth
What was the whiskey they were comparing it to at 3:00?
FANTASIA!
Holy HELL. I just went and looked at prices for this stuff.... !!!!!!!!!
Place in Indiana had the whole antique collection for sale, starting at 2k a bottle and going up from there. So not worth it but damn do they look sexy and a major bottle flex for taters
WoW.... What a donation.... $1300.00 USD ish MSRP Damn.... Good Job Carl Ivey!
99$ MSRP isn´t it? :D
99$ MSRP, anything else is aftermarket
Yeah it’s only $99. I got the 2020 for $110.
Just wow!!!!
They are $99 secondary is BS!
Good stuff, Gents!
If any MBs out there know a Jameson Black Barrel Whiskey Vault review, or if you the Whiskey Tribe channel has included it in an episode, please tell me. Thanks.
Carl Ivey MB God
Gotta love when the som soms and the mooch mooches!
Very surprised Buffalo Trace doesn’t send you guys media samples every year!
I have a local bar that does stagg jr pours for 11 dollars.
I loooooove the range of flavor.
Gents, I have a request. TX Cask Bourbon against the Stagg 2019 15yo. This channel or the Tribe, but I want to know your thoughts. Is the TX as balanced at its much younger age as the Stagg at the much older age?
I've never done that. I routinely do stagg jr vs any number of cask texas whiskies.
The heater and depth present differently. The Texas is rougher. More of an alcohol bite in the upper palate and considerable oiliness up front. Where as the stagg jr has almost zero alcohol on the mouth but leaves a fume that you can exhale and dned near burn your nose hairs.
For me it's like punchy bass vs boomy bass.
The one time I think I can watch them out of order...
Daniel: I kinda want to get the Still Austin from yesterday...
Pink hippo deal is from fantasia!
I sincerely thought the title was a joke but holy crap it really is It. NICE!!!!!!
Hippos were from Fantasia (1940 Disney)
Fantastic ya'll. Never dull moment... Stagg thievery...halarious.
Blind test with Remus 5 included?
how could you guys not add water? I'm so curious! also, the Holy Hell from Rex was great.
Dancing hippos, drinking bourbon and running off with the goodies. Reminds me of a party I went to in the 70s.
Greg Vangsness here. Dumbo - Pink Elephants On Parade ... Fantasia - Hippos and Ostriches performing Ballet.
Holy Hell! Great reaction.
Fantasia (the 1940 original) was the cartoon you were thinking of… hippos in tutus dancing with alligators in capes!
Why are these bottles so hard to get in Australia
Don't you think the balanced oak is a product of the moderate climate and the moving of their barrels in the rickhouse?
Old Overholt sitting on your shelf…I have 2 miniatures…1937 and 1941….
Wouldn't a somm titan be something like a Cthulhu lore inspired giant nose and tongue?
If it's a dead-middle bourbon then why is it expensive or rare at all?
Good ol' Rex hamming it up for the camera again.
As Rex walks away I hear the refrain from the Rickie Lee Jones classic, only instead of "Chuck E's in Love", I'm hearing "Rexy's in Love" and so it goes with George T Stagg. lol
15 years in Texas equals all day long or week if you prefer burnt coffee.
Hey guys I found a black on line that is sell a bottle of George T Stagg for $70, is this to good to be true?
Yep
Weren't the dancing hippos in Disney's Fantasia?
Damn I wish I could get my hands on a bottle of GTS.
Blind it with Woodford Batch proof and you will not tell the difference in fact you may pick Woodford BP....There is a slight chance that Rare Breed may beat GTS 2019 anyway
I got the 2020 a month ago. It only took 12hrs in 25Degrees to get it at msrp.
The cartoon is Fantasias Dancing Hippo
Think you might be looking for the Fantasia reference as that big pink hippo dancing piece gents...
Hippo in the tutu is from Disney’s Fantasia, I want to say.
Hippo with tutu is from the original Disney's Fantasia. Perhaps is more like Bugs Bunny's horse in What's Opera, Foc!
Classic, hate on GTS then try to run away and marry it at the end 😂 Great explanation on the palate in its simplicity but excellence at the same time. That’s what makes GTS great for me, it’s bourbon at its best! That’s right, I find Seagrass 🤷♂️ and would take GTS any day 👌
It's not hard to find, it's hard to afford, local store is asking 999 for Stagg, 699 for Thomas Handy, etc. I can go and look at these bottles, I just can't afford to take them home.
I think the hippo reference is Fantasia, the Disney movie
I have a bottle of 2019 GTS, only a few pours remaining. I can’t wait for it to be over. One of the biggest letdowns I’ve ever experienced in bourbon. It’s so overhyped. I recently had Stagg jr and I think it was a thousand times better.
I wouldn't go that far but it would depend on what I paid. I got mine for $99 and it's ok. Far from amazing!
Yeah 2019 was the worst Stagg ever released
We have the 62.5% at work. That shit is fire literally. No metaphors
Fantasia is the movie you were trying to think of. 😄
I was told that the 2019 release was a bit of a down year for GTS.
Has anyone taken a stab at what the dollar value of all of those bottles of whiskey in the vault might be?
You guys need to do more hype bottles to keep up with Bourbon Junkies and the like
HYACINTH HIPPO in fantasia maybe...cheers
Rex at the end of the segment....bahaha 🤣
