I think this corsair is actually a lower br than USMC rn, but I could be wrong

1D has more horsepower in WEP mode, her engine is a new model compared to the 1a's engine. She also has 2 permanent pylons on her belly for bombs or drop tanks and fixed rocket hardpoints on her wings. It's funny that its slower in game because supposedly her maximum speed rose over 1a; from 417 mph to now 425mph. They admitted though that the permanent hardpoints added drag. It's weird that Gaijin dont let you have BOTH bombs and rockets at same time as the Hellcat. Doesn't make sense when the Navy late in war started deploying more Corsairs on carriers specifically because they need more 'striking'/ground pounding fighters.
Ill have to double check but the 1a and 1d have some power output, with or w/o WEP.
gaijin often messes up these things unfortunately.
I wonder why is the F4u 1d capped at 417 mph not 425 mph
Also the way gaining messed up spitfire and bf 109s speed, spitfire were faster than bf 109s in WWII, as bf 109s top speed was 260 - 275 while spitfire could go up to 409 mph.
I also really like the Corsairs. A little side climbing at the start and then it's usually a case of shooting fish in a barrel from then on.

One trick I've always liked doing in Corsairs is to put the gear down in a steep dive. The tail wheel can break (atleast irl don't know about in game), but the main gear will not break. It's a nice diy airbreak lol.
This works with every Corsair up to the F2G and AU-1 up to about 500km/h IAS. In game the tail wheel will not break.

As far as I know, it was designed to work as an airbrake 🤔
@@kimjanek646 It was. That's why it work like that in game. But in reality just the main gear was designed as a brake, the tail wheel could break at higher speeds.
how did you learn that trick irl, not in game. lol I just imagine you snapping landing gear off corsairs, being a WW2 vet, and telling us the story so we can apply it to the game

The main reason I watch this is I keep getting destroyed by these so I try to find the weaknesses of this plane
There is no weakness to this plane. You have to find a weakness to the pilot

once they are wound up, its difficult to fight them, if the pilot knows what he's doing.

@@jaybabe7767 j2m2 without a doubt... this thing feels like you're flying a vtol and it has a good turn rate. the only drawback is it isn't that fast in a straight line

Not sure if you have created a video on the BTD dive bomber but it is a great little bomber that is fun to use as a fighter
its on the to do list!
I bought the british one that sits at 2.7 this week and only had a few fights but that already was enough to see what crazy divespeed, enginepower in level flight and energy retention do to the outcomes of the fights that you pick. You ofc, because there isn´t much flying around that can force you into something. The british one was most interesting for me, because of the cut off wing tips that other corsairs have. So the 24 turntime for me is a fakestat to be honest ;-)
Yeah, the british one is nice too, i have that and reviewed it back in the day. Great plane.

@jengar6258 Same here too I love the Corsair very much and by the way can you do another corsair video because during the war on Korea they change the role of the Corsair in Ground Attack just like the AD-2 Skyraider

Their limited WEP (8:33 minutes) is the biggest downside of all F4U-1 Variants. I love them all!

@@jengar6258 alrighty! Well, since you're going through the Brits, don't miss the Typhoon at 4.3. its a hugely underrated plane that can boom and zoom, energy fight, and turn fight. Whether you make a video on it or not, definitely give it a shot on your way through the tree! It's quite easy to put on a smile with this plane :)

I've gotten annoyed at the reduced stopping power of the .50 cals so I started using ground belts, but perhaps that's a mistake.
Nope I use ground too they’re definitely more effective

You did not test the dive breaks to see how well they worked, in WW2 they used the landing gear as dive breaks!!

Started a new account recently, so I've been playing a lot of stuff like this. How good is the F4U-1D? I am 33 kills and 6 deaths, spading it. Don't take it as bragging: it isn't how good I am, it's how bad people can be at the 3.0 range.
It's definitely an indication of skill, 0.75/1 is average, 2/1 is decent, 3/1 is good, anything about 4/1 is excellent.
Good old days when this bird didn't have limited WEP and you could costantly pull the 2000HP from the engine for the entire time without overheating (even tho if you know a bit about manual engine controls overheating Isn't much of an issue even today)
