Can we all just have a moment for Ray.. RIP to a hero! he saved those people with his own life absolute legend ❤
I used ti live close to this area in the late 80's. I wonder if the park ever placed a memorial for this man's bravery.
The most brutal attack i have heard of...damnn

I don’t think I could do it …. Sacrifice my life for complete strangers. Ray was indeed a real man and hero.
Indeed he was. Saved that young man's life.
Bet he regretted it while he was getting torn apart.
@@majesticcamels4198 I am sure he did
No brave people dont regret it. Courage takes a lot, apparently we got 3 more ball less people in this chat. Why not? Why not give your life for someone else? That boy was just 13, thats somebodys baby. That woman died, Im sure she would've someone to be brave enough to help him. Wouldn't you guys mom want the same? I wouldnt go down without a fight, I wont surrender until I know Ive dont it all within my power.
You dont know that paul harvey. People do things they thought theyd never do when danger happens. Survival instincts kick in. You dont think about the future but the present danger. Seen self sacrificing strangers save children without a second hesitation, like me.
My worst fear is being eaten alive, bears like hyneas eat you while you are alive through your stomach or backend..Nightmare fuel!
But i jumped between a charging black bear and a 3 yr old without my side arm, only knife in my hand because i was cooking. Picked him up like a football and ran towards my truck, where my shotgun was laying on tailgate. My son dropped him 10ft away from me & terrified precious boy. I put boy on the tailgate and shot one more time for safe measure Over muscle twitching but my son killed him instantly.
That child was from different camp, Whos urbanite parents thought it was safe for him to wonder off. Thank god my son countered my reaction & had a accurate shot. I just reacted, i didnt know him but I went in momma bear protecting baby mode on a male bear during hyperphagia. Not one day goes by do i regret that decision.
Now i get to know campers around me& educate them. I have a dog who's a predator deterrent and my side arm never leaves my side! So better to over prepare than put yourself in harms way! But you never know your capabilities until its needed!
I just came to comment Rest In Peace to the legend that is Ray Kitchen, what an absolutely selfless act, saving a child and a mother. I hope your family know how much of a hero you are! ❤️

Absolutely INSANE that a human skull can take that much damage and by some miracle of a millimetre survives, yet if a person gets hit once in the wrong place, they can die instantly or overnight or become permanently disabled. Crazy brain 🧠

@@mrsinkzn you do realize that bear attacks are extremely rare bears are not cold blooded killers there not man eaters most of the time the reason for a bear attacking is because it's a mother with Cubs they'll do anything to protect their cubs
And the young man who tried to save his mother is also a hero my book absolutely incredible
@@mrsinkzn its us or them right? and they wont rest until we're all dead! oh wait, they dont think like that, we do
@@mrsinkzn I think your anger is a bit misguided. We are all upset at what happened and of course we feel sympathy towards the victims, but to wish that all bears were extinct is ridiculous. We are encroaching on their territory, interfering with their environment, and depriving them of their natural food sources. What happened there is unfortunate, but it is also preventable. The bears have no malice, they are just doing what bears do. Mothers protect their babies and starving bears look for food. That doesn't make them evil, it just makes them wild animals. The only ones that actually have evil motives are humans. Don't get me wrong, if a bear is threatening people it needs to go down, but for you to want to exterminate all bears is not only misguided, it's moronic and I'd also say malicious.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm watching this now and looked down at the comments and see he died. RIP RAY
I'd rather be accidentally shot than to continue to be mauled by a bear.
Kia Wabason wth? Why does a hunter have a gun and not use it!!
Kia Wabason exactly! I mean seriously. They brought their rifles to hunt an animal and they have a life or death situation and they are timid to use it?! I think their lives are more important than a future meal they were planning. Sheesh. I just don’t understand the hesitation to use their guns!
Same
Some people haven’t experienced high levels of adrenaline like in a bear attack and it paralyzes them.
Yea it would be less painful
The 2nd story is so chilling considering that the black bear is infamous for being afraid of humans, they usually run away or out right avoid humans. So the fact that a black bear actively seeked humans for prey is chilling to the bone
When people feed bears or leave their trash available, bears lose their fear of humans and eventually see humans as food.
Humans get pretty aggressive when they're starving, too.
This is typically only true if they have little to no experience with people. They’re not as timid as once would expect, and I say this as someone from BC with multiple black bear encounters. There’s a huge issue with black bears becoming accustomed to people and all that comes with us. Believe it or not, but in Canada black bears are actually responsible for around 70% of all incidents. Although their attacks are typically defensive rather than predatory. Grizzles do make up for the largest amount of fatal attacks but at the end of the day never underestimate a black bear. Due to being more skittish by nature they’re easier to spook into a defensive attack.
@@kaelinn510actually you have that backwards.. black bear attacks are actually much more likely to be predatory in nature, while Grizzly attacks are majority defensive.
This is why you play dead for grizzly, and not for black bear. Because if a black bear is attacking you it is likely actively intending to eat you and playing dead will not help, while playing dead is often effective in the end for a grizzly attack.
So its kind of a catch-22.
The story of Johnny McCoy is my papa, he has unfortunately passed on now. But I remember seeing him in the hospital after this happened. It was horrifying to see the damage that was done to him.
I’m glad that he survived and you got more years with him 💕 What a strong man to walk three hours after that attack. You must’ve been a sight for sore eyes in that hospital room.
That father and daughter in the first story had such a great bond and it's probably been even stronger after they went through what they did. He risked his life to save his daughter but still felt so guilty after it all. It makes you want to hug him. What a great father.
If you honestly think about it the whole situation was his fault. If he truly wanted to protect his daughter he would understand and not have been so ignorant towards the possibility of seeing a bear. He should have came prepared with a gun as well not just bear spray that isn't tucked away and at the very least, TEACH HIS DAUGHTER HOW TO USE IT. lmfao
@@kavoro8951 I agree. I also think he may of had the foolish notion of it'll never happen to me. Most of the time we hear these horror stories and we rarely think it'll happen to us so we go into a situation completely unprepared and ignorantly blind to the fact that if we don't take precautions we increase our chances of it actually happening to us.
You got daddy issues?
I so wanna blame him for going straight into a bear country without even a gun or at the very least teaching her daughter how to use that spray, but seeing the pain he has gone through to save his daughter and his tears made me feel so sorry for him. He made me cry too. This was a very intense episode...
@@jeazelbeson8038 not amazing quite stupid actually- should have used bear spray first and not confront bear head on. Then just kept jumping off ledges leaving his daughter to fend for herself. Also not teaching her how to use spray is negligent
I can't imagine going for a hike in known Bear Country without a gun or knowing how to use bear spray properly... No wayyyyyyyyyy
The whole thing was a recipe for disaster
that real common sense
Even a knife.... a well placed blade would've ended the attack on his mother
When I go hiking I always have bear spray and I carry a Bolo, -- a large Filipino knife!👍💪🦍
I know right. That has Darwin Award written all over it. If I was going to an area that is known to have bears I would be sure to have multiple lines of defense. I would be armed with a gun, a machete, a hunting knife, and bear spray. lol

These people are so brave, I can’t imagine facing down a bear like that-but I reckon I would to protect my child or save someone’s life. This series is epic, informative and interesting.
Actually they're not brave. They're stupid to go into places where bears are residing. Now if that mama bear get killed with the gunshot then she leaves two cubs behind. Poor creatures. Human stupidity always cause Thier lives and same time ends people's lives
@@showbizbalita9949 bears reside in many places, you savant
@@showbizbalita9949yep why are people venturing in these areas and without any kind of weapons to protect themselves
@@showbizbalita9949you do realize that places that have bears is usually a choice they can’t make. States that have bears or any apex predator will have accidents. It’s not like they wanna travel for hours to the next state just for a hike. I don’t get it either because I’d never put myself or anyone let alone my kids in a situation like this, but the only human stupidity is not bringing a defense of some sort. Otherwise, places that have bears really can’t be helped. They don’t have other safer means of a hike. If it’s a chance they wanna take, let them, but don’t sit there and act as if someone has a choice of whether an apex predator attacks or can’t be helped they reside where they do. It’s NATURE. Don’t forget we are animals just like them. And more brutal considering we have rapists and killers and have an intellectual thought process. Another issue is the media animorphasizes predator animals.

@@skye6066 hey :) I know you probably didn't mean any harm as someone who also makes pretty dark jokes, but hiking is a pretty regular thing for a lot of people and not to mention that people don't really expect themselves to be brought into this situation. These are real people with real stories. They both probably have PTSD from this and I don't think saying it's the dad's fault is okay, especially since this is a guilt that he'll live with forever.
We probably shouldn't be saying things like that even if it was harmless :)

To the boy, I hope you read this. I'm a mom(Tom is my husband) of 3 boys. You are so incredibly brave and though your own mom passed away you hold no I'll will towards the bear. Yes, he is.God bless him.
That's sweet and I think she's still there looking down on him and proud.
He's an awesome kid for trying to save his mom. His mom was lucky to have such an awesome kid
But if I was him I would hate bears for the rest of my life and think of them as nothing but monsters that love the taste of human flesh and I never take my kids or girlfriend camping or even close to the woods. Why should you have to bring weapons to go camping to make sure that your family is safe? You shouldn't have to. Why are there starving bears hanging out at a public park?
@@juliemitchell8807 your sense of entitlement is astounding. If someone decides to go camping in known bear country, then the responsibility falls on the camper to do the proper research of the species of bear there. It is wrong to hate an animal. You don’t think, we as humans, are not directly responsible for these terrible encounters ? Humans need to remember that if you go into the bush , then it is us who have to remember we are not the only predators.
It breaks my heart to see how sad the son is over the loss of his mom you can really see the pain in his eyes remembering and feeling all those emotions all over again. I just want to give him the biggest hug and let him know he did his best to save his mom and it is not his fault.

The bear wouldn't have to worry but me. I would be running in the opposite direction.
The father saying that he didn’t think he’d ever be attacked by a bear while hiking in bear country, so he didn’t see the need to have the bear spray easily accessible. “You don’t think it could ever happen to you.” I’ve heard other people say the same thing in regards to being in areas where wild predators are, and I can’t wrap my head around where that kind of thinking could come from. Right? The gun give some distance, is hope I’d try to jab it in the eye or smth
So unfortunate tho :((
Yess! I mean, the gun can shoot from a distance, what a coward smh 🤦🏻♂️
His friend did the same couple of idiots
When that trucker guy jumped in and he died i felt so sad. He tried to save them but he died. He should get way more credit for giving his life to strangers
No greater love hath a man than to give his life for another...
So sad 😞
Kelly should be remembered for the bravery he displayed at 13 trying to save his mother by risking his young life.
Very humbling - what heroism shown by all from the Spa who came to their assistance God Bless them😊
I couldn’t imagine the pain that that child went through i’m so sorry 😢😢
"Seasoned" Hikers. Just how the bear likes them.

Great, two hiking adults took the bear spray with them but have no clue how to use it. Genius.
Exactly my thoughts Dolce Vita, and both college educated. Which goes to show you that Education alone without COMMON SENSE doesn't add up to much!!!!
Sadly a lot of people don’t know how to use them. Same with fire extinguishers. They should be teaching this stuff in schools not trigonometry lol
I think only the father knows how to use it. Though he should have also informed his daughter. You can never be too careful!
Hence am team bear, can't be associated with such dumb species
Kudos to this man’s fantastic plastic surgeon, that is years and years of work right there very very very well done. I’m so glad they could save his face.
Kelly and Ray are hero’s,btw rip Ray he will always be remembered❤🪦💔
So I guess not all hero’s wear capes💯❤️☺️
Amazing courage by the father for his daughter and by the son and truck driver. Salute!!
These so called “hunters” have no business being out in bear country if they refuse to shoot the bear mauling their friend for fear they might hit the man being mauled to death by a Grizzly . Absolutely crazy in a dangerous bear attack .
You've also got to carry a side arm. I can't believe people would venture into the backcountry without anything to fight against danger.
Man some people freeze when they see something like this . Hopefully you'll never see it .
@@DrLove911 well them some people need not be hunting, and stay out the woods.
Everett James You’re an idiot. It doesn’t matter if you’re an expert hunter or a first timer, it’s called a primal instinct.
Allison Castle think about this when you get clapped by a predator genius
A protective mother vs a protective father
That 2nd story is absolutely mind blowing!
she played dead so the bear will leave her alone.. then after the bear left, she started yelling again.. as if the bear won’t hear her.🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ glad they survived.
Thats what I was thinking too...
Why the hell did she not run after her father was attacked?
@@STMARTIN009 If your father was getting attacked would you not try to save him and just leave him to be eaten alive?
That was only the reenactment, not necessarily a true portrayal of events.
@@PointNemo9 of course it was this isn't Hollywood, where they make up a load of stuff in movies based on true stories to put bums on seats,it would have been as accurate as possible.
How anyone could walk through grizzly territory and say “oh nothing will happen to me we’ll be fine” is truly baffling 🤦♂️
Ja they also say sharks don't eat people..... Idiots
stay scared. dont leave the house.
@@carlholland3819 lol what?
Some part i did agree with your thought . Nature is beautiful out there but if decided to hiking thru Grizzly area you better well prepared all stuff n tools in case .
You cant be reckless n just ìgnored how dangerous with wild animals.
@@carlholland3819 Be careless , get eaten.
Grizzle bear attack there’s only 20% that they will survive! The father and daughter were so strong. The boy was strong too! Risking his life for his mother
Damn, Johan is one courageous and very very lucky dad!
A person doesn’t realize how many bear attacks actually happen. My heart feels for the people and families effected by these attacks .well done video , I learned from this .
there are only about 3 people killed/year in north america. there are almost 20 killed by dogs and several thousand killed by police. so if youre being attacked by a bear or dog, dont call the police
@@carlholland3819 You're forgetting aggravated assault. I guess it's a thing of the past?
you wouldnt care atall if the people were replaced with any animal. being human doesnt make you more important or obligated to put down anything that can be a danger to humans

EXACTLY! This is crazy! Wth!?!?
Bear spray is better. And so much cheaper. Just read the instructions FIRST!
@@kantbtamed1032 I'm sorry, i agree with the price point, but you're not killing a bear with a spray can. If theres wind around, it becomes pretty much useless, not even pointing out the fact that there's always a chance the spray won't work. It's a thousand times better to have both and make sure you have the means to defend yourself when the spray doesn't work.
@@kantbtamed1032 just reading the can won't make the spray effective.. you better have a back-up plan

That man better be getting the best gifts ever on Father's Day!!!
That dad saved his daughters life. Great job
The courage shown by some of them is truly amazing.
It's amazing how the truck driver quickly tried to help without thinking about himself. God bless that man. I cried.
Ray Kitchen, thank you kind sir for what you were willing to do for complete strangers. Braver than Brave !!!
RIP Ray so selfless & lost his life ❤🙏😪😪 A true hero
I can appreciate that those who are attacked don't blame the bears. Point of fact, humans are technically in the bear's house!
Totally agree!!
My bust bud is from Billings Montana and over the years would take me and our friends on trips throughout Montana. He carried a Desert Eagle 50 cal handgun wherever we all went, and we all kind of poked fun at him for always lugging this hand cannon all over the place. After watching this, I think I'll call Kevin and thank him for always carrying that dang gun around with him. As a dad, that first story was absolutely terrifying. HUGE respect for the dad for continuing to put himself between the bear and his daughter.
Awe the dad crying broke my heart. He seems like such a sweet man 🥺 so so sad

Moral of the story: Always read the instruction on the bear spray *BEFORE* the second you need to use it.
Bear spray isn't good enough to rebel a bear attack. Bearing a handgun, shotgun, or AR-15 arm is.
James O'Brien -- saw a vid of a bear charging a man. He shot the thing close range near the head/shoulder area with a friggin shot gun. The bear tripped for just a split second before running off.
The man went out expecting to see a dead bear on the ground some distance away, but found nothing. No blood trail either.
My point is a shotgun will work, and I’m sure a rifle as well, but probably not a hand gun unless it’s essentially a mini rifle. Lol
Pepper spray is super risky.
Might work, might not according to a ranger I listened to in a CZcams video.
@@thomaspayne6866 Yeah, the more powerful the gun, the better off someone is. Lol
bear spray? Lolwut
All of these stories seem to show people who don't normally use their heads by the sounds of it.

Poor kid :\ What a tragic thing to live thru. God bless him.
Crazy. He literally said that he “hoped he see one” be careful what you wish for
Jayden Craig what do people be thinking about when you go on hikes and walks in bear country!!! The bear is just going to walk away!!! I don’t know!!!
I can’t believe that those two didn’t shoot when the bear was attacking the other one 😳
These guys are special
I know, WTF! Your buddy is going to get malt to death if you don't take a shot. Might as well take a chance because he's going to die for sure if you don't. Besides, you have a huge grizzly bear and your friend is on the ground, you have a hunting rifle with a scope, not that you need the scope of that range. So, why can't you shoot again? How bad of a shot do you have to be if you are worried about hitting him? I know things happen fast and the adrenaline is flowing. I know I'm second-guessing and I wasn't there, so I realize it's not as easy as I make it sound, but still it seems like he should have taken at least one shot while his friend was getting mauled
I Dont understand 😳Idiots
@@Marco-fi6gv They didn't wanna waste the shot in case the bear 're-turned' on them, besides, being Christians, they knew the other would be in a better place if they should carc?
@@SeriousSchitt lots of assumptions there. Like it is certain that the bear is mulling my friend and I need to do something. It is certain if you do nothing more damage gets done possibly fatal damage. They never mentioned that they were running out of ammo so that is an assumption as well. Here's one more, the guy could keep getting mauled so badly and still live. Imagine living with no eyes, ears and half your brain. Is that a better place? Fortunately for them, it all worked out, but they were extremely lucky because most of the time it doesn't go that way
I cannot imagine having recurring nightmares for the rest of my life of being torn apart by a bear. 😮 Or watching someone I love be eaten alive. Horrible!
If you look up "unprepared" in a dictionary, you'll find a photo of this father/daughter duo. Hiking in the wilderness yet not knowing how to use the bear maze you carry for protection is the very peak of idiocy. These two are promising Darwin Award contestants.
Exactly
Im a Hunter.....There Is NO EXCUSE...if my friend is Under a Bear Im fireing off shots immediatly.
In a heartbeat, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a bear to save anyone from a bear attack.
What if you shoot your friend instead and kill him/her instead of the bear?
Unwxanted Bears are a pretty big target, if you miss that bad youre a danger with firearms and shouldnt have them
spootles okay but like the bear moves around a lot and what if it moves when your about to shot it
Unwxanted even if that were to happen i think it would be a better way to go than by being torn to shreds
