I do not think they are lying, as I did not notice, either. My original guess was that she simply saw a bear and her dogs intervened before anything happened. She is simply gorgeous!

I live in the same area as Elena (the bear attack survivor). It is wild, rugged, isolated country. Even today (2020), there are no cell towers, no way to call for help if you’re injured away from your home. She is extremely lucky to be alive!

The lady who was attacked by the bear is quite lovely in so many ways! Glad she had her 2 brave dogs to save her.
Years ago I had a cat named Shadow. One day my boyfriend at the time was over and he started tickling me. I was laughing and talking loudly for him to stop. Shadow ran in between us, looked him in the eyes and started hissing and growling. I was blown away. She and I lived alone and was my protector that day. She didn't know we were playing. If possible, it made me love her even more.
Yes my German shepherd would get in between my ex husband and me, he is 6'2'' even though we were just laughing and playing my dog wanted us separated.
Have you seen the video of the little boy playing in his driveway and a stray dog went after him. His cat went 4 claws into that dog and ran him off. Caught on a security camera. That cat hit that dog at full speed. Wow!

Decoy and the wolf hound are so awesome they saved a woman from a bear that's twice their size and have only sustained only minor injuries

I love dogs, more than I like most people. They will give their lives up to protect their owners and they love us no matter what.
Dogs are truly our best friends. The unconditional love that they give us is most precious.

Absolutely. My German Shepherds have saved me from ATM robbery and a break in while my kids were outside. Very touching stories!

When she named her dog.. did she know him living up to that name would save her life? Go Decoy! The initial decoy as the other stayed with the owner getting her to safety before switching places in their team attack. Animals and the loyalty they hold, its amazing.
This lady had guts of steel..who could survive such a ferocious monster..Kudos to the two dogs..they were so brave and faithful till the end..that bear disfigured her face but not her spirit..It was so good to keep the dogs..they were the perfect guardians..

I still don’t feel safe when having a side arm and a shotgun full with slugs while hunting to be honest. I’ve hear to many crazy sounds or howls from creature that shouldn’t exist.... our gun won’t help much .

I had an Irish wolf hound who was the greatest companion I ever owned. They are gentle, pure love and will protect you and kids at all costs. He looked exactly like this one, but he had no tail! Quite unique.

When I was little my childhood dog & cat both saved me from 2 very different animal encounters & they may not have been the deadliest animals, but for a 5-7 year old it was terrifying. I think them saving me is what began my obsession with animals. I’ll never be able to thank them enough for what they did for me, not just saving me, but throughout my entire childhood. I love & miss them so much & hope they’re chilling on that rainbow bridge together.
One of the dogs I have now has saved me from a person who tried to rob me but I taught him to do that stuff so not as much the same as the others because there’s was fully instinct & his was partly instinct partly training.
My car was killed by a BB gun drive by in 2009. I was born in 1996 which was the same year Tupac died so yeah that’s why my profile pic, okay back on task I was 13 and I had a cat named Curious since she was so curious. I was going to my cousins house and we were planning to go to an amusement park. This is July 14th 2014 and I had a bad feeling about letting my my cat out but I did. I had fun and I returned when some neighborhood kids me and my friends had a problem with pulled up on the block with a C02 glock. My cat was running to me when it saw me and I took cover. My cat unaware, she was hit instead of me. 4 shots to her chest and one to her right leg. She died in my laps as the kids sped off. We took it to court and we settled it. Similar to Tupac’s death.

I had one just like the Irish Wolfhound; same color and looks. He was the most loving, docile companion, until some animal threatened me on our walk. I have never seen such a transformation of attack and protect from him. It was surreal and it worked, because he saved me from a pit bull encounter.

My dogs are my babies! I can't imagine them not being in my life! So glad her dogs are ok!
My cat Noodles got bit by a rattlesnake once. Only got one dang in and she was fine. Huge paw and thousands upon thousands of dollars in vet bills. This was 25+ years ago and I still remember having that cat on my lap rushing her to the hospital as a scared little kid. Surprised how well she recovered.
God what a wonderful feeling that must have been to see her dog.
The vet attributes Sosa, the cat’s, attack on the snake as hunting instinct and that the bond between her and her owner is why she was close by. I’m surprised that the vet doesn’t know that cats will protect their people. There are multiple stories of cats doing just that. I I firmly believe the cat intentionally intervened.

My Male tabby cat comes on walks with my huge Tibetan Mastiff and greyhound both on the lead and the cat will always pick a fight with other large dogs and stand his ground even though theres a 80kg dog with me. I have to lock him in the house when I go for walks to stop him being mean to other dogs at the park.
Tania Packman Okay, that’s hilarious. Years ago, I was walking my Shepherd Chow mix in the complex where I was living and as we rounded a building there were two cats outside of an apartment looking like they were waiting to be let in. My dog made no movement towards them - we had a cat and Cheyenne was completely non-aggressive, anyway - but without hesitation those two felines jumped on top of her back, full-on claws. I’d never seen anything like it. I had to push them off of her and we hightailed it away. Cats can do some damage, but luckily my dog had very thick fur and wasn’t hurt.
This is paradise, this is magical: fires,floods and bears.

was amazing the way she told us her story. I could listen to her all day. Her surgeon was very skilled too. Both women blessed despite their ordeals.
Pets are so special in so very many ways. All three are heroes; love and protection uppermost in their minds. Wonderful.
When I saw the other dog Run up to her I was about to cry
OMG this makes me so blown away, I have a sweet pitbull who I know would protect me too. And its just a balll of emotions watching this seeing how much her dogs loved her.

Interestingly as you look at Helena while she is describing the events that transpired, you can see her true beauty and serenity. We had a mastiff when I was a kid. The bark alone would scare away anything or anyone coming near the house, she was also very loving and lazy. You could snuggle up to her like a big pillow. Miss you Ladybird

Yes, strange. First we see the mastiff jump into the car, then no one knows how he is? I was thinking, the dog's in the car, help him too! Then, two weeks later she comes home and is surprised the wolf dog is alive? Didn't anyone look after them? What did they eat for two weeks?
Maybe the dog didn't get into the car, both dogs just went home and licked their wounds and survived best they could. Maybe someone dropped off food for the mastiff and did not see the wolf dog anywhere? I would have liked a better explanation.

What an absolutely amazing and beautiful woman. Imagine finding her in such a remote location in Kern County! I really like where she lives with her heroic dogs, although I don't think I could be that self-sufficient.

omg this is my nightmare, i grew up in the bush and ran around freely without a gun or bear spray, i was never afraid. things have changed , bears seem to be more aggressive
