Spitting isn't a Freman greeting. It's a sign of deep respect. There's no call to suggest that Stilgar would preform such an act. But it IS reasonable that Duncan has been debriefed at this point. Numbers, locations, temperament, fighting prowess, all of this information should be in the Duke's hands by now. Hence why he turns to Thufir and confers with him.

@@Nervar It was VERY little time also in the books... the book starts with the grom-jabbar in Caladan; in that same day Paul is trained by Gurney cause Duncan is allready gone to Arrakis... some days later, Paul, Jessica and Leto do the trip... the Harkonnen assault on Paul happens the very first nigth after arriving; as Jessica has selected Paul's room that very same day. After the attack, Paul sleeps in a bunker room at Jessica's orders for at least a nigth; then Paul has a meeting with his father's war council in witch Leto admits not having slept a nigth since they arrived to the planet by using energy drugs (not even with drugs could a human in this universe survive more than a week without sleep; Thuffyr admits he has been posponing rest by using drugs for days after the fall of Arrakeen, and yet been close to the limit) and the very next day they meet Kynes and visit the spice harvesters. That same nigth (or the next at much; but almost inmediatelly after the harvester incident) the feast happens; in witch Kynes, the lesser noble houses and all the powerfull people of Arrakis attend... and the feast is interrupted by a revolt in a minor citty (a distraction to spread the Atreides forces before the main assault)
In that very same nigth, Jessica finds out drunken Duncan Idaho; who slips to be spiying on Jessica... and later that nigth; the shield goes down and Arrakeen falls.
So, acording to my calculations... a week. Pretty much the same as the movie.

I appreciate how much Stilgar just does not care. He is polite by Fremen standards and that is it. He wants to be able to look Duke Leto in the eyes so he fully disregards Gurney's command to not fully approach Leto. when Gurney reacts (unaware of the true meaning) to Stilgar's gift of bodily water, Stilgar stays perfectly still because, I can only assume, he knows that Gurney is mostly just posturing.
This, to me, shows how much Stilgar can read into a situation. Seeing how each man is placed in the group and how they behave telling him so much about who they each are. Duncan at the Duke's left to guide him through this interaction. Gurney to the side like a guard dog, ready to lunge in and defend. Thufir to the Duke's right to disseminate what is said to see how it works into their long term plans. Paul, back and away to learn from what they are all doing to prepare him for the day that he becomes Duke.

Interesting, my opinion's exactly the opposite. This film, beautifully shot and well acted, lacks the heart and soul of the book. Which is exactly what Lynch captured in his film, despite all the things people disliked.
Villeneuve's Gom Jabar scene has nothing on Lynch's. So much of this film lacks the nuance and the charm of the book.

@@DaLiJeIOvoImeZauzeto LOL What? NOT even close as everything you're saying is just ABSOLUTE To say this MASTERPIECE of a film "laCKs tHE heart aNd sOuL oF tHE boOk" is a PHENOMENAL way to say you didn't understand the movie at all as this movie PERFECTLY captured the sprit and soul of the book by portraying it's spiritual and otherworldly cosmic environmental nature, NOTHING you've said here makes sense at all as the movie is EXACTLY like the book and PERFECTLY captures the "nuance and charm of the book" as EVERYONE says it EXCEPT you lynch fanboys who are BADLY biased towards the lynch's MESS of a dune film which BAFFLING to see how you say anything in the most embarassing way possible.
Everything you're saying is EXACTLY the opposite of what's ACTUALLY happened in there.
There is no "interesting", you're just biased to lynch's movie and you can't get over your own bias, nothing more.
NOTHING you've said here makes sense as to say "sO mUCh oF thIS nuAnCe aND tHE cHArM oF thE boOk." lol NO it doesn't, This movie PERFECTLY brings the otherworldly spiritual nature of the book and rising fanaticism towards Paul's rise to power.
This movie is CHALKED full of subtle writing and nuanced acting and directing THROUGHOUT which has been praised to HIGH HEAVENS from how phenomenally it all is portrayed, literally EVERYONE has commented that it's like seeing the book brought to life when they first read it as the movie is has the EXACT nuance and charm of the book ONE for ONE. But you can't admit that tho because you're badly trapped to the past.
Lynch didn't "Capture" ANYTHING in his film but directing AWAY from the book and message OF the book. NOTHING about Lynch's film captured about what Dune is about as it's made obvious in VARIOUS scenes that Lynch purposefully strives away from!
It's so funny to me how you lynch fanboys are willing to say ANYTHING to justify lynch's dune film which goes AGAINST the themes and message of the book which Frank Hebert himself as called out. It's truly sad that you're saying THIS much rubbish to justify your garbage bias, just wow.
Your "opinion" is as GROSSLY invalid as it gets as all it's showing is that you're biased towards an outdated movie that didn't understand WHAT the book is trying to be. Compared to the new film which ACTUALLY
ALLY has the EXACT "heart and soul of the book EXACTLY which most of EVERYONE has said it does EXCEPT you lynch fanboys here. Thank you for displaying your bias right in front in center.
People disliked Lynch's film because it's was comically outdated even FOR it's time with it's ridiculous portrayal of the characters because there are ALOT of moments where the film makes a complete mockery of itself, especially with all the scenes with the harkonnens.
And lol to even saying "whICh Is ExACtLY wHAt LyNCh cApTUre In hIS fILM", lol NO he didn't. He captured squat and ruined the main thematic message OF Dune with his ending of having it rain in Arrakis, it's bafflingly that you even say that here which you've shown that you don't understand a SINGLE thing about Dune at all, you're just BADLY biased towards Lynch's mess and willing to say anything to justify if when the NEW Dune movies are EXACTLY like the book EXACTLY but you can't admit that here at all.
Villeneuve's Gom Jaber scene is NOTHING like "lynch's gom jaber" scene because Villeneuve's Gom Jaber ACTUALLY GREAT and of REAL quality compared to Lynch's which is just a joke to look at. There is no "hAS NoTHInG On lYnCh'S" as there's NOTHING to compare as EVERYONE can see how much of a laughable JOKE Lynch's gom jaber scene is in comparison when they're NOT trapped in the past like you are. It's hilarious how you don't realize how BADLY biased you are to something that OBVIOUSLY doesn't hold up in the slightest. You're JUST trapped in the past and you're saying anything you can to justify your bias, nothing more.
Please, don't EVER be a writer or director at all, you DON'T know what "nuance" or what "charm" is at all, you're JUST biased and willing to say anything to justify your nonsense here. and you DON'T know what you're saying at all as you're just GROSSLY biased to outdated crap like Lynch's mess of a movie that's seen as nothing more than just an embarrassment to film.
And lynch's film is NOTHING compared to Villeneue's MASTERPIECE of a movie that's gorgeously brought to life from the BEST cinematic standards possible making it the GOLD standard of filmmaking. Get over yourself and get real. Seriously!

Gurney was ignorant at times (like this one), but had a good heart. I'd think that a person of Gurney's position would be more diplomatic. Duncan failed in briefing Duke Leto & his staff on the Fremen social & diplomatic graces. If Gurney would've attacked Stilgar, Gurney would've gotten embarrassed, fucked up & had his ass handed to him on a silver plater just for testing Stilgar, then killed. But I guess Gurney would learn that later on with the smugglers who rescued him & the remaining 73 Atreides Soldiers, plus his personal engagement/interactions with the Fremen (FreeMen).
