- SVS PB 4000 Review Should You Buy?! The svs pb-4000 is a monster of a subwoofer. If you are serious about bass then this is one to consider for your house. I finally did a pb 4000 review and it still puts a smile on my face almost a year later.

Great explanation. Thx a lot and Happy New Year man.
Now I have 1 PB 4000.
Next year may I will have a second one ..
Last time I listened to some Bass Boosted music .. my house became a orchestra.
Windows , doors , glasses etc .where going like crazy.
And men de wind , the pressure .
I'm so in love with the PB 4000.
Yes you.need 2 of them
I've been running a Paradigm 2200 sub daily for the past 25 years. I originally paid $900+ tax and at the time it was considered a high-end sub, among the best. It's a beast of a sub and it sounds as good now as it did on day one. Decided I wanted to update my system and a subwoofer was the final thing I needed to get so I went with the SVS PB4000 which cost about $2,300. This turned out to be a huge letdown because my 2200 absolutely destroys the PB4000 and that's with 25 years of daily usage! Looking at my new SVS, I'd say there's no chance in hell this thing will be still working in 25 years. Quality and performance in the audio world has taken a nosedive. You can still get great gear but you're paying twice as much for it now as you were 25 to 35 years ago. I've heard so many great things about these SVS subs and I wonder to myself, have these people ever actually heard a really good sub?
I get mine on Thursday and I'm SO hyped! Replacing a Klipsch rw12d and I cannot wait to test this thing out.
Well?
@@juandoe7802 fucking amazing
Wow man that is extremely impressive. I am dying to hear what those woofers sound like... I am a bass head already, just now really getting into HT setups.
Bass heads unite!!
Hi,
Whats your opinion on PC 4000..
Looking at a dual set up for a home theatre room with 5.8m X 4m...?
Or PB 4000 would be better..?
Killer setup. Love it
Thanks buddy!
Watching this in March 2023. When he said $1899.00!!!!! I’d love that price right now. 4000 is 2200 currently
I see you have the PB16 and the PB400, do they match up well? I always thought that you needed to have 2 of the same subwoofers. I recently bought the PB16 and I love it, its probably overkill but I wanted the best and I always hear that 2 are better than one, I have a small room so I figure that one is probably ok. However if I ever move and get a bigger room I would definitely go with two of them. What are your thoughts?
in small rooms on 4000 or a 16 ultra is plenty. When you move to a larger environment 2500cu/ft + then a second sub can help even out the room. You love the 16 ultra? You can match similar subs if they are close in performance. You dont want to match sealed and ported though.
I still wondered how you got the grille to flex on your pb4000. I can’t get it to flex in any way. If I raise my volume too much my house breaks.
Nikis Surprise haha. You gotta risk it for the biscuit. :)
It’s always good to go back to this video. There are so many SVS hating videos, it irritates me. I’m enjoying my PB-4000s, PB-3000s and SB-3000s. To each his own but I like SVS.
Is the pb4000 better than the pb3000?
That Home Theater Dude I enjoy the videos. Last month, I began upgrading my Home Theater. I now have SVS Ultra Bookshelves and Ultra Center (powered by Monolith 5x), and 1 SVS SB-3000. I have a few questions. First, when it comes time to move my equipment into the large room that I'm intending to use, should I keep the Bookshelves as my mains (versus the towers)? If so, then what would you recommend as my 2 surrounds? The actual surround model, or another pair of Bookshelves? Secondly, would you recommend a second SB-3000, or upgrade to 1 SB-4000?
Im a huge fan of towers. A second 3000 will match very well in your room. You can go a step above or below but matching same for same is always preferred.
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude Thank you. I know you can't say much, if anything, but...does SVS have something in the works for a new Ultra tower? I saw the Prime Pinnacle, so naturally I'm curious if they will stop there, or add to the lineup.
Just picked up dual pb4000s. By utilizing the extended mode do you think you lose out on sound quality to get 3hz lower? I haven't ran rew yet but after doing room correction, I feel the pb3000s hit better. Any guidance would be appreciated. Great video as well
PB3000 use a more efficient driver and has significantly more output above 20hz. The PB4000 has significantly more output bellow 20hz.
So how do you like the pb4000 now?
A question to you. Not about pb 4000. Would you say products like dspeaker antimode 2.0 are worth it if you got realy bad room? / Philip
yes the antimode helps out subs that dont have the DSP feature built in. It just takes a little time to get it all perfect
Thank you for your reviews, really need and feel I can completely trust your advice. I am about to pull the trigger on an SVS sub. I thought I was set on the SB16. However after watching this review of the PB-4000 I am really torn especially since the price is the same. Which one would you advise me getting? I am about 60% movies and 40% music. Thank you in advance, also really hoping for the sub that hits that "shock and awe factor" 🤯
What did you buy?
Whats the biggest difference between the pb 4000 & pb 16 ultra i have two dynamo 1500x and not sure if i should upgrade to svs ..... is the pb 4000 tighter and faster than the pb 16ultra ?
the 4k and the 16 are similar in terms of transient speed. the 16 gives off its own thunderous sound that is distint. the 4000 is plenty more than most any person needs in there space
I need these😍 but I have to find a job first😢
I have to get out of argentina frist haha
Good video as usual dude. I'm thinking of upgrading to the 4000 series, I'm wondering in your opinion if the deeper extension of the pb-4000 is enough to make you recommend them over the pc-4000?
Rich, the pb digs deeper than the PC. The Pc has slightly faster transience because of its inverted design, but the pb-4000 wins all day everyday. Great output and great value
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude that was very helpful my dude, thanks a million 👍
Man love the vids! Anyway currently running 2 r112sw’s and enjoy them but how do two 112’s stack up against one pb4000? Same output more output? Very curious as I would like to run one sub but don’t want to loose any output! Thanks in advance
More output for sure. If you are impressed with the 2 12s you'll love the sound out of the single 13.5. I had a klipsch sub before but it wasnt a premium line. I felt like it was easy to bottom out at normal settings. Plus SVS adds more SPL starting around 30hz and going down well below 20hz. Lots of other sub companies struggle in that range. Most has already tapered off spl around those frequencies. This is a general statement, so i would recommend trying both out yourself. I always say that the 4000 is more than most people will ever need. Its dangerous though, cause once you get used to that theater level of bass you may end up adding another one like I did haha. Hope this helps.
love my PB 4000
Is it true that the pb3000 is a better sub than the pb4000?
I pulled the trigger on a pair of PB-4000 for a 3500 cuft room (hallways open to roughly 4500 cuft total, no doors). I am wondering if going dual pb-4000 is overkill?!? I have a similar setup as you with the Klipsch RP-280’s / 450c / 250s @ 7.1 with SVS pb10-nsd. Room is a bit oddly shaped (walk out basement), but seating is relatively smooth for base as long as you’re not moving around room. Generally listen at moderate levels with wife, under reference when alone. I am looking for clean / impactful sound more than loud. Mainly asking as I am having doubts and sub stock is resulting in one sub being shipped at a time, giving me time to cancel order on the second.
I do love bass, but being in Canada we pay more and could use the extra $$$ on other enhancements.
My man. I would say just get the second one in the room and see how you like it. You can always return it. Thats probably not going to happen. These subs love to be in pairs and im sure it will sound just as good in your room as they do in mine
Have you try terminator 2 on 4k our blue ray to ??
I was looking to get 2 sb 4000 my room is 30feet long 17 feet wide will 2 of these play better than my 4 12 inch spl klipsch subs
I would say definatly. I had a klipsch sub before i got my very first svs sub (pb12-nsd) and it was a noght and day difference. You can sell the klipsch subs and help offset the price of the new subs. Want me to send you a link for the 4000s?
Will it make a difference if I connect my pb 4000 with xlr cable.
I think you get an extra 3db of output because of the noise floor reduction. I think i remember reading that somewhere
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude ty
Hey home theater dude. What would you recommend .Would you do 1 pb 4000 or 2 pb3000? My room is 3600 cubic feet. The room is F shaped. the longest wall is 32 feet. The first bump out of the F is 12x10 area with a 6.6 foot ceiling which is vaulted. The second bump out is the same dimensions.
I would suggest 2 pb3000s. They are not sitting at an equal distance between the 2000 series and 4000 series. Much closer to the latter with their new technology split voicecoil. They punch Like a donkey on roid rage another reviewer said. Their engineers were apprehensive to make them so much like the pb4000 during development.
And your bass response will be much smoother and full throughout the room with 2.
I want one of those subs so bad I remember back in the day I wanted a Sunfire sub never did get one I definitely am going to try and get one of these
Sunfire is pretty good stuff !
I have the pb 2000 but I'm debating on what to go with. What has better performance the 16 ultra or the pb 4000? I'm still looking for better and deeper bass performance
Tone wish the 16 will give you the deepest and most bass. I heard them before but i was blown away when i hooked it up in my house
Both are fucking beasts, but ofc the 16 ultra will maybe go a little deeper and louder, 16 inch vs a 13,5 inch driver in basically the same cabinet design. pluss the 16 ultra has a crazy 8 inch voice coil and i believe the pb-4000 has a 3,5 inch or something like that.
Do you have any problem running this on a shared 15 amp breaker?
nope. i ran everything on the same circuit no probs. i just recently added a 20 amp for the AMPS only
Thanks
Need help, wife hit the wall over 65" TV over Christmas so thinking of scaling back on subwoofer! :( I intended on getting the PB16 ultra, however now think about one of these. My question - assuming the PB16 is more powerful, how else does it compare?
All I know is PB-16 Ultra is a beast. It's their current flagship model. But the PB-4000 is no slouch. Both sounds great, it just depends on your room size. You're looking at a $500-600 (depends on the finish) difference between the two.
Really the 4000 series is all anyone will really need. Grab the sealed and save on cash and space> The sealed versions are about 6db -10 db quieter than the ported counterparts, but the performance other than that is the same. I wanted to shoot for the moon so I grabbed the ported ones. The sealed 16 smaller than the ported 4000 for sure
Hi! Nice vídeo. I would like, if possible, your advice in the following issue. I´m setting up my Home Theater. My room is 3,70m (width) x 8,20m (length), so it is 30m2. Do you think I could use two SVS PB 4000 ? Thank you.
Yeah 2 4000 or 2 16s would fit that space well. im thinking you will be good with either of those
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude I´m so glad to hear this. The sad side is that the same product costs us twice the price you pay. Muito obrigado.
Does the PB 4000 over a wireless connection?

How are the crossovers settings you are using in your room?
80 for everything except the center 60 and fronts large --sub LFE+ mains. 120 for heights and subwoofer
sub is crossed at 120 ??
whoops. i meant 100 i like 20hz overlap to decrease dips
I have one question how far is your projector form your screen?
1979denell I asked the installer and he measured at minimum of 13ft 6inch. He said he moved it back to close to 14 to allow for zoom to get this 130inch 2:35 screen. A standard 120 16x9 would be much closer.
Thanks for the reply I only can get it back around 11ft wanted to go with the 2.35 screen not sure what size I would be able to get just trying rom size comparison
Hej man. Where is the new video from the new svs speakers... i want to see them 😁😁
got flagged. I had to edit and re upload it!
What is best two 4000 pro or one 16 ultra?
id go for 2 4k
Need help!!! Dual SB-3000, Single PB-4000, or Single PB16 Ultra? 17x15x9 room with adjacent 17x15x9 room. Mostly listen to Hip Hop, 70/30 Music over HT. The PB-3000 does not come in Piano Black so that is not an option. Rest of system includes Klipsch RP-8000F towers and RP504C Center. Thanks
if you only listen in one position then a single would be fine. but if you have multiple seats or couches that you watch from them duals are a good idea. for that size room you will probably only need the 4000, but if you are a bass head like me then the 16 ultra will be the last sub you'll ever need
Are you in the states?
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude Yes. Clemson SC
@@kennethdunn1359 sweet man! You want me to send you a link to the subs? It helps out the channel if you guys use them.
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude I do have multiple seating arrangements. So I would be better off with dual sb3000 vs single pb16 ultra? Really thinking I would enjoy the ported box over sealed.
With a DSP you can lower a peak but you can't really level a null, because if you boost that particular frequency, you boost the canceling wave too. DSP will help to level the response but not make it perfect. Gonna need bass traps or different location of the subs.
If you add before after the dip then you can smooth out the curve. It gets a little complicated with wave summation, but i have done it before.
Would love to see you do a DIY Dayton um18-22 closed box and do a review!
That would be great idea. It would blow him away on how these diy can perform and not to mention the price is 1/3 compared to these subs. Out right would outperform these subs without a sweat.
Wait for next week.....
I dont see how a 1000w subwoofer is going to blow these out of the water. Im sure they will be very impressive though. I have been wanting to do a pair of martys for some time now. Time will tell for sure. I need to beef up my electrical system too.
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude Well, watts are not the most important thing. If you 2x the watts you get only 3db. so 112db at 1000w, will mean 115db at 2000w.
And those 4000+ watts peak, it's kind of marketing. Peak power 2x the nominal power and it only happens for a fraction of a second (drum kicks).
One PB16-Ultra costs 2500$
For that price you buy, the famous INUKE 6000 (or it's currently replaced with (NX6000)), The INUKE 6000 is bench tested from Bid D Wiz, and it does around 2k per channel at 4omhs continuous!!! . This Amp on amazon is 450$,
So you have 2000$ left.
Parts express sells the Dayton um18-22 for 325$ or if you buy 4 of those, it sell for 299 a piece. So slam 4 of those 18 inch, 1000 watts subs for 1000$. You still have 1000$ left to DIY boxes or pay someone to do it.
You will need a miniDSP for 100$ for EQ and other corrections and it's good to get the mic too so.
So for the price of 1x16 inch 1500w you get 4x18 1000w.
Yes, boxes are gonna be huge, and super ugly. There two the only downside i can think of.
They won't have the special rubber feet that you can actually buy seperatly.
They won't have the glossy finish which i don't like because of reflections that should be removed completely for a home cinema!!.
EDIT EDIT: You lose the quality of the driver and the insurance on these. So no customer service and all the benefits that SVS gives! That's a really big con for the DIY approach.
@@Quetzalcoatl0 PE has a 5 year warranty on the UM drivers. Inuke has a 3 year warranty as well. Besides that you're spot on with everything else.
1 PB16 @ $2500 or 4 18" UM18S for $2500.
If that doesn't blow your mind than I don't know what will 😅
I'm happy with my late night accidental order of the sb-4000. I can't decide if I should return for the PB
Dejected J haha haha. That’s exactly what I did. bourbon may have been involved ...
yep, alcohol :-)
you too? haha
This is hilarious!! Glad I’m not the only one! I did the same thing!
J Boy J apparently this is common. Haha
How much better/louder is the 16?!? Thanks man
Jason Miller about 6db on the “gain” via the front panel is what the 16 has to be dialed down to match the 4000. I say match to mean equal the same dB coming from each during calibration. I’ll show objective stats when the comparison video comes out next week.
I made the box and there’s no way my wife’s going to be ok with it and if I’m honest it does looks ridiculous in my room. It just sticks way to far out into my room. I been watching your previous videos comparing pb 4000 and sb 4000 and saw you and your wife liked the pb 4000 way more. So I’m considering the sb 16 ultra. I do have a open room concept. So do you have any thoughts on the sb 16 ultra ? I could possibly do get a second one toward the end of year if I need two .
Very impressed with the sb16. I have heard it in person several times and it rivals the overall performance of the pb4000. You can probably get away with that one :)
My wife won't give me anal anymore
Oh when i got my pb1000 the first time i plugged it in and played something it sound like shit i though that it had a problem or idk!, I was super disappointing but after 4-5 movies and some hours of music, i guess the sub broke up a bit and damn, HUGE difference. Day and night difference! For the room it is positioned it's doing more than i expected!
Was it the same with the pb 4000 and the 16 ultra ?
Quetzalcoalt nope. Both the 4000 and 16 came out swinging. Sometimes it has to do with settings in the avr and rarely you get send an amp that’s damaged in shipping. Either ways always contact SVS directly. They have the know how to diagnose anything over the phone. If parts need replacing they are sent out super fast too
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude Maybe in the USA, but in Europe it might be different Calling from EU to the USA is expensive so email or live chat, and about replacement parts, i will just have to send it back from where i bought it or directly to them. But i don't have a problem now it was just in the beginning. Everything is fine!
Damn how i wish i could win another pb-1000 or a pb4000 😁😁
Im glad it all worked out !
What klipsch subwoofer do u recommend?
the only one i like is their big boy the -115. its visually appealing and it has a good amount of sound. conversly there are better subs with more performance for the money. But if it has to be klipsch then the 15 is all you will need. I have experienced them with the rp series and the RF series. In an RF environment the sub is needed less becuase of the overall tone of the towers. It will make a bigger difference matching them to the "smaller" towers.
That Home Theater Dude have u tested polk audio hts the new subs?
I'm torn between svs and rel which is a better sub
Im always going to say you are going to get more than what you paid with SVS, but check them out for yourself and make your own opinions. alot of these people allow in home trials and cover return shipping
Great video. You killed me with carrying them up a flight of stairs. Im getting ready to move and have 4 pb16s, 2 sb16s and a SVS B4plus in my basement. I dont have help and Im not as strong as I use to be. Its going to be hell.
yikes...
Selling any?
yep. you in texas?
That Home Theater Dude haha. Everything is in Texas. Actually moving there soon, but sorry no I'm not.
What db level do you set these subs on your avr?
-10.5 on AVR levels and -14 or -10 on the sub gain
I’m running a Yamaha avr just wondering why such a low db? I can hardly even hear the sub if I run it @ -10db on the avr. Does it give a better slam effect on high volumes when running -10 on the avr or something? Thanks for the reply by the way much appreciated
dynamics sound great for me. good at high and low volumes. My settings can be different from your settings though.
I ran ypao and it set the volume on the avr for the sub to -10 just wondering if it would hurt to bump it up a couple db
I have a 3.1 system 2 energy 5.1 e towers with a definitive center channel and a 12" energy sub. I know I need a set of rear speakers but the system is so old I'm looking to redo it and have no idea where to start. Oh also have a denon avr 890 7.1 witch is like 10 years old maybe and a samsung blu ray player , again the speakers are over 24 years old also. I don't have a lot of cash to spend at the moment but I can save for each item as I go so it may take me a year to set it all up but this is my hobby so I just don't know where to start and I feel nervous to buy something as it might be a bad purchase . If you have any idea where I should start or what to replace first? Thank you for your time.
Whats your budget buddy?
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude thank you for replying, my budget is kind of fluctuating because I get about $400 month to put aside for whatever but I can also sell what ever item I will be replacing and add that to the amount so I just don't know where to start first ,I don't get much because I am disabled and can't really work but I do what I can. It's a hobby and I will get everything slowly but I will get it all. Like I was saying I don't know what to try and get first, what would be best to start with I could add the 3 mono block maps like you have and get more out of my energy 5.1e towers and center, just not sure what would be best to start with. Thx again for taking the time to help me.
I understand. I would start first by updating the receiver. I like the yamaha v-683. It sounds great and has a fair amount of power. After that I would work on the front stage and then maybe at some speakers to take advantage of atmos. I have links for the yamaha in the description of this video. Let me know if you need any more help
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude hi and thanks again for your help, I took a look at the yamaha receiver and I noticed there were no pre outs for me to hook up the outlaw audio 2200 mono blocks that I would like to get for the front left right and center power. I did however find 2 used marantz sr7009 for sale around $600 used would this be a good option? Or should I look for a better model?
Thats a good deal! Marantz holds it value very well. I dont think the jump to 8k will take off for another 2-3 years so that marantz will be plenty.
I know 2 subs are better but ? 2 PB 4000 or 1 PB16 ultra for home theater ?
2 4000s would be plenty. whats the room size and configuration?
That Home Theater Dude
Sorry for late reply .
Room is 18 x 19
But the seating area is 14 feet wide by 19 front to back . Doing a 7.2.4 set up .
I have a tri level house it’s my front living room / dinning room so the extra feet on the side is entrance walkway to the kitchen from the front door . I think it’s cool I will have 1 couch on top level and 1 couch on lower lever If that makes sense .😂 Iam sure 2 PB 4000 will be more then a nuff ! But I still can’t get the to 16 ultras out of my head ! 😂😂
Send me your link so I can order both subs and u will get your kick back from SVS . I think I will do a little cheesse video 😂 when it’s done for you tube !
Thanks

Have you had a chance to demo any other ID subs? PSA, JTR, Rythmik, HSU, Seaton, Monolith, Diy would be a good start to compare how those other subs are to these 2. THOSE over deliver for their price with the same 5 year warranty.
I agree though, having a great sub adds a whole other immersion on your HT. I stared with the PC12 then upgraded to the pc12+ then upgraded to the PB16. Was set on the PB16, but price was too much for 1 sub so I ventured looking into other subs. I demoed PSA, HSU, Monolith, and diy. I returned the PB16 and ended up going DIY and the Monolith 15 for less than 1 PB16. Look around folks, see what else is out there. SVS subs are great, it's because of them that got me to become a bass head 😅 but there's others out there that can match its performance/output for less $$$$ if you're on a budget.
i should be getting rythmik and PSA this year along with doing a marty um18 :)
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude oh boy! You gonna be a busy man! That's great that you get to experience other ID 👍 and be prepared for those Marty subs 😁
I can already tell you that svs cannot compete with rythmik jtr and psa. Performance wise and price wise as well. Svs subs are overpriced when comparing against the other three companies. This is well documented through data bass and other high end users on avs forum. Good quality subs as I have owned one but they are outmatched plain and simple
I have these and I will caution people to be careful. These things are so powerful that they can literally fold your room. I don't see how anyone would want anything more than these
id argue bigger is sometimes better
VISA time😁
If your already spending that kind of money wouldn't I always wonder if I should have got the 16ultra?!?!
I did. The review for the 16 ultra is coming out.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I was told if you get too big of a sub lets say for a small to medium size room it won't sound as good as smaller size sub in the room.
I'm thinking the PB-4000 is ideal for those size rooms? No doubt it's a badass sub 👍
usually running a more capable sub "cooler" will sound better than running a small sub hotter. either ways the small will do its job becuase in a small enclosed room the room becomes the second box or cabinet. This is called room gain. There are plemty of instances where choosing small subs is perfectly normal. on the flip side its good to have it and not need it rather than needing and not having it. Hope that helps
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude 👍
I have a smaller room with a sb 16 ultra and works just fine. Thought pb would be to much
If anyone is considering a PB4000. Don't. Get a Monolith Monoprice V15 with a mini-DSP instead. Same performance at nearly half the price.
Wow these have gone up a lot in price. There 4600 for the pair now
Masters the bass crazy
Love the cardboard box build idea,
Why waste your time ?? I mean, which is more important ? The wife or the sub? The answer is obvious right ? 😆
dang man. you single? Wife has veto authority haha
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude you just need to get you a dedicated room, so you do what you want with out veto....
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude why I love having a basement 😁

@@ThatHomeTheaterDude lol
no way that box can push 4000 watts manufacturer lies about power all the time????????
if you beleive that then Prove them wrong
Year and a half later...4000 or 3000
both are great options. if you have a smaller to med sized room go 3000 if you have a med to large room grab the 4000.
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude thank you. My room is roughly 3000 cubic feet.
@@jmd11185 go
Bigger sub for sure. You need it to pressurize the larger area.
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude well, here's my thing. I got 3000 in March so i have a few months to trade up. I was thinking of ordering a 2nd 3000 soon but thats probably a bad idea if I'm going to upgrade from the current 3000 to a 4000. I keep being told that 2 3000's will do the job..ahhhhhh
@@jmd11185 so what did you end up getting?
