  • SVS PB-3000 VS PB-4000 | Who Wins?!? I compared the SVS pb-3000 and the pb-4000 in this video. The 3000 series is very powerful and the wife couldnt tell a difference between the two. That means that the 3000 which is cheaper performs just as good as the 4000. I could tell a difference that the 4000 had a tad more punch, but the transience on the 3000 was lightning fast compared to the 4000. Why not save some cash and go with the 3000. Thanks for the head to head comparison. I bought the PB-3000 a few weeks ago and have been dialing it in with REW (along with help from SVS engineer Ed Mullen). As pointed out in other comments below, room placement is key and in my case I incorporated my 2 prior smaller and less powerful Definitive Technology subs to address the mid-bass nulls my room was experiencing. Very pleased with the results! Thanks again, and keep the great content coming!

    You would have seen the difference if you actually measured with rew. At the limits, the 4000 simply has more, with less compression. For large rooms needing higher pressure levels, it can make all the difference. Below the threshold, sure save the cash by buying only what you need.

      @@ThatHomeTheaterDude I agree. I have Dual PB-3000s and Dual PB-4000s and both sound good. The PB-3000s hit harder from about 20hz to 80 hz but when it comes to digging deep, the PB-4000s are quite a bit deeper and rumbles a lot harder. Plus, on Fury, during the scenes when the tanks battle, the PB-4000s leaves the PB-3000s behind. However, the PB-3000s are an excellent buy, especially for the performance and the weight difference. It seems that you are very knowledgeable in the sound field and the review was very good. Nevertheless I was waiting to hear about that difference that you were able to notice versus the lady that could not find any difference between the two. Personally if the PB-4000, because of its shear power would go lower, I would definitely not mind paying the extra $400.00 and go for the PB 4000. The ultimate and most decisive quality in a subwoofer ( of course that is completely personal ) would its ability to produce a "deeply" satisfying deep notes. That is without breaking a bank or having to use a 5000 watt amp !!

I don't have a ton of room as it is a living room setup but was thinking about adding rear channels or a Sub. I like watching action movies but how much more will I get from a 12" sub vs the woofers built into floor standing speakers?

    • @andyorozco6675
      @andyorozco6675 Před 5 lety

      I got your exact setup but with 115sw. It makes a difference if you like a super deep bass. The way I have mine amp is full towers with the center 110hz and the 115sw at 80 and below. I like the subwoofer to blend the kick/punch with the towers. I'm seating at 14 feet away. But if I wanted to I could increase by a lot the output of the bass on the sub and it would be drastic that there is no need for the towers to throw any bass at all. But the wife does not like excessive bass, so for me it does not make a difference.

    Your test was quick... but I believe that the filter is set to 20 Hz mode in the pb-4000 ( as you have all the port open ) which would definitely roll off earlier than the filter which is preset in the PB 3000 with two ports open ...the filters make a big difference which would make the PB 3000 sound deeper as it's standard filter does not roll off as early.. I think a better test would have been to set the pb-4000 to extended mode with two ports open also... that would have been a more even test along with the same placement of course.. I've measured myself using REW with my personal PC 4000s and the filters do make a difference definitely as far as HOW the subs roll off.... also the power output makes a difference too.. the PB 3000 May have been pushing the Driver Harder more quickly as it approaches it's compressed limits... which might explain why your couch was shaking.. maybe the standard filter setting in the PB 3000 sounds thicker than the standard setting filter in the pb-4000 which rolls off earlier... but with that said... I believe if you run at 20 Hz test tone with all ports open on both Subs separately... the pb-4000 should easily come out on top...
    Just my thoughts... ☺

    From 800w to 1200w is like what ? 1.5db difference if the sensitivity is the same ?
    Watts are relative. A 120w speaker can sound louder than a 800w one.

      the 3000 is more efficient, so actually the extra 1/2 inch driver, but mostly the giant cabinet size contribute to the 4000 being more powerful.

    I prefer the PB 4000.
    The speaker looks much better , the logo looks so much cooler .
    The display on the front is so nice, I like the cabinet .
    I was thinking about buying the PB 3000 but when I saw the PB 4000 I was sold ..
    It's such a great sub ...

    the one closest to the mic or the one further? mic placement will be the real test... pointless doing a comparison for people listening to the result through what ever mic setup you use.
    Better to have it and tell people what you hear and what you think at the time

    Did you not say the PB 3000 was on a higher gain level then the PB 4000?? So the 3000 has to run higher to get the same results? There’s so many variations in this comparison, gain / placement / isolation feet, it’s never going to be equally measured. I have the PB 4000 & that thing shakes the crap out of my house, let alone the couch.

    • @ThatHomeTheaterDude
      @ThatHomeTheaterDude  Před 5 lety +1

      They were both normalized to the same volume. the 3000 just has to be run a little hot to reach the 4000 performance. The 4000 has more headroom though. I know Its not 100% perfect and that is why I mentioned all of that in the video. If you want, do the comparison yourself and see what you think
