  • Today I share my thoughts on how the SVS PB3000 vs Klipsch R-115SW compare in a real world situations. The PB3000 is an incredibly impressive home theater subwoofer with a ton of clean output and digs deep. The R-115SW offers an incredible value at it's price point.

    SVS PB3000 AMAZING!!! I had no idea. Everything just came to life. Thanks Youthman for all the very informative videos you have posted. Your videos were instructive and a huge help to me while working on this 8 month project. I had no idea what it was like to actually EXPERIENCE a movie. This subwoofer has completed my home theater. A run down.... My room is 14 ft by 14 ft with 8 ft ceilings. I have one long comfortable reclining sofa. A great surround sound is not complete without a great 4K TV. So I watch all the sound pounding explosions on my LGOLED65C8. Best picture available, in my opinion. Powering my speakers is the Marantz SR7012. This AVR is incredibly customizable, once you learn how and what is what. I purchased a Crown XLS1002 to power my 2 front Klipsch RP8000. The Marantz just didn't have enough for these towers. Audyssey has calibrated everything for me, however I did turn up the volume for the center.I have these at 60htz along with my Klipsch RP504C. This was wise advice I received from a SVS tech. Surrounding me are 4 Klipsch RP502S and 4 Klipsch RP500SA these 8 are set at 80htz. I have had a few wow moments as I was upgrading this project. For instance adding the Crown was a really pleasant WOW moment, it added a ton more sound and power to boot, especially playing music in stereo. Another subtle wow moment was upgrading the Klipsch RP140Sa to the Klipsch RP500SA. The Atmos sounds really came to life after this upgrade and much more definitive. I was using an old pair of Klipsch RF2"s as my side surround. I upgraded and got that second pair of Rp502s. This was anther good purchase as again the sound traveling around me was much more pronounced. But no Wow moment was bigger than that WOW from the SVS PB3000. This took everything to the highest level available to me.....I live in a townhouse. My neighbor has been incredibly gracious. This subwoofer moves walls. And by the way, the SVS replaced the Klipsch 112Sw. UM..... NO comparison, totally different league. I really like the phone app for this PB3000 I can just sit and watch a movie and play with this sub to get the perfect sounds and thumps and roars to my liking. No need to get up. Keep on posting videos Youthman you've been great.:)

BTW I only prefer sealed subs. Excluding the sb16 ultra, which I wouldn't opt for due to its size and cost, would you then say the sb4000 is the next? Does svs have 14inch or 15inch sealed subs? I was wondering, Is having your PB-16 subwoofers behind the screen the best placement for them in your room?

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety +1

      That is a very good question. Once I finish with the Reference Premiere System, it will be much easier to get behind my equipment to hook them back up to see how they measure with REW.
      I also have a miniDSP 2x4HD that hopefully can help with any issues.
      A lot of my videos come from my own audio journey so I am learning first hand that just because a speaker or sub looks good where it’s at, doesn’t mean it’s the best place for it.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 4 lety +1

      Unfortunately port noise is something you deal with with many ported subwoofers. I have an experienced it with the larger PB16’s that I have.
      Port noise is basically when air cannot escape the ports fast enough, and begins to produce a chuffing sound.
      I sold them and upgraded to a pair of JTR Captivator RS2’s which are sealed. Sealed subs do not have port noise.

    Yeah buddy! I own dual pb3000's! Been enjoying what you explained for some time now! Only greater! I'm convinced one of the reasons the PB 3000 is so good is because of the split wine voice coil svs has put in it. When they first released it they were getting phone calls from people saying that the PB 3000 was really sounding very close to the 4,000 and and maybe even a little better. The engineers were asking the higher-ups if they were sure they wanted to put out a subwoofer with with this kind of capability at the price point and they said yes. Youthman indeed PSA just goes for raw output, where as with SVS you are also paying for the tech behind the subs. If you already have the tech (like with an anti-mode duel core for instance) PSA is the better value. So I liked this video, but what I think would be a more fair comparison (and what I was wondering personally) is how two of the 15s stacks up to one of the SVSs, as that would be an equivalent purchase. As I said earlier, even though the SVS is a better sub, I went with the two 15s for the same price, because my ideal of a legit home theater has always been one in which everybody can enjoy a (nearly) similar viewing/listening experience. So the linear bass response was a major consideration, as was maximum output in the midbass response. Plus... audiohaulics seems to think that the lowest frequencies (the place where the Klipschs will struggle compared to the SVS) do tend to be more cumulative with multiple subs, because those frequencies are less susceptible to detriment from room acoustics. So perhaps two would handle those deficiencies better? Just curios. Thanks for the video!

    If you like equipment that brings a smile to your face, try out some of those light fixtures/lasers they have that dance to the beat of music and set them up in your room. Just got into that this past year and I'm now of the opinion they need to be building that into speakers, because wow is that stuff neat.

    When I saw last week video of you testing both subs using your software I was quite disappointed to hear the results because as a home theater installer for over 20 yrs I always say use your ears and eyes to compare not by some software says. After watching this new video it made me glad that I own a chest pounding SVS sub here as well. I knew there was no way a Klipsch sub would remotely compare with a SVS sub. Hey Mike,
    Any chance you could do a review on the Klipsch RP 600 and how they timbre match with the RF 7 iii's. For space savers this appears to be Klipsch's best offering for a center speaker with 6.5" drivers but they dwarf the RF 7 iii's 10" drivers so I am not sure how theyll work together.
    Not everyone has the real estate for the RC 64 iii's, so as a Klipsch affiliate I am sure many of your subscribers, including yours truly, would be curious about the RP 600' s and their performance overall.

      Dual subs have many advantages over single subs, primarily in coverage as they can fill in output nulls to more evenly cover your room and produce a better response curve. With the R115SW being nearly half the price of the PB3000 and also being roughly half the cabinet (on the spec sheet at least), it's a very valid argument to take into consideration. The hard thing here is that there's no real apples to apples as these are two very different designs with a multitude of variables. Wattage, driver size, plate amp efficiency, etc etc. Only way to tell is to put them in the ring and duke it out.

    Technically, they look close to each other.
    Only R115sw has 15" speaker but the power is not much higher than in pb 1000. There is a chance for such comparison?
    Possibly dual r115sw compared with dual pb 1000.
    It is also possible that such comparison does not make sense since pb 1000 has only 10" speaker. ..

      Do you compare according to driver size?
      Do you compare according to size cabinet?
      I tend to simply make comparisons based on what I have in for review and simply share the differences. In this case, yes the PB3000 is a better subwoofer but it’s also twice the cost so it should perform better.

For my size room of 18x18x9 there’s plenty of bass. So I thought. I listened to both of these subs this past weekend. There is definitely something missing, 1 is my HT funds and 2 my WAF. If anyone is deciding between a single PB3000 or a dual R-115SW then IMO go with the dual R-115SW. Two subs will be better than one, especially if we're talking similar quality and total power. Two R-115SW's will put that huge smile on your face. I guarantee it. Mine still make me grin every time I play a good movie or music with incredible bass. Even if Youthman does the comparison it does not mean your results will be the same. Every room is different. Nothing smooths out subwoofer performance across a room better than having two or even four subs. The R-115SW is a kickass subwoofer. I can't imagine anyone coming away from listening to them saying they expected more. Even when I had only one R-115SW it shook the entire house and drove my wife nuts, and when calibrated the gain was only set to 3.5 on the dial of 0-11 in my large 15' x 20' x 8' room. I have never heard it chuffing. I've tested the frequency response using high end test equipment and it smoothly pushed as low as 10hz, which you can't really hear. You pretty much just feel it in your chest and feel a flutter in your ears. I've put a number of subs up against it and nothing else I've tried comes close to the oomph, clarity, and gut pounding power, especially at the lower end.

    Love the channel Youthman. My comment would only be, should anyone honestly expect the R-115SW to beat the PB3000 or even be on the same level when the Klipsch is half the price. So I feel the comparison test is not warranted. • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety

      Hi Terence, One of the goals of my channel is to share my experiences. I happen to have both subwoofers in my home so why not compare both of them even if they’re not in the same tier.
      Not everyone can afford a $1400 sub woofer so the R115 SW might be a great fit for them.
      Others may need smooth bass response throughout multiple seating, which you probably will not get with just a single PB 3000 so a pair of our115 SW for the same price might be the better option.
      The purpose of these videos is simply to share the differences in the experiences between them and let the if you were decide which is best for their setup and budget.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety

      Plus one you’re talking about comparing similar products, are we talking about price? When I compared the PB16 vs PSA S3611 was it fair? One had dual 18” and the other had a 15.5”. But if you’re comparing cost, the PSA S3611 was $400 cheaper so technically there about the same price point.

    Comparing a Camry to a Camaro. You just can't get away from a sub that can double the output of its competitor, but you do pay for that honor! If you have to double or triple up on the Klipch to match the SVS then your cost savings just disappeared.

      @Youthman  Před 5 lety +1

      Youthman how did the they both do when it came to music?

  • @Bradimus1
    @Bradimus1 Před 5 lety

    This experience is why I favor one better sub over two at equivalent price. Even with two of the Klipsch you would have the same problems. More even room response? Maybe.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety

      You would gain 3dB by adding a second sub and better room response (if placed in the correct location) but still might not get the same impact.

    • @Bradimus1
      @Bradimus1 Před 5 lety

      And you'll probably still have chuffing. Unless the subs are in the same location stacked, you likely won't see a 3 db gain across the board either. Mostly levels the response a bit as the response from the separate locations will be different.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety

      Interesting. I was always under the impression that adding a sub yield 3dB Gain. Stacking yields 6dB.

    • @Bradimus1
      @Bradimus1 Před 5 lety

      It's just not as straight forward as across the board. If you put two drivers instead of one in the enclosure, 3 db. If you double drivers and power 6 db. But as soon as you have things not in the same physical location the room response will start greatly affecting the results. Just like you noted in a prior video it's not the same in every seat.

    I’m really surprised that you used “Infinity War” as a demo. IMO that blu-ray has one of the worst home audio mixes I’ve heard, dynamics are dull, low end is meh and surround activity is ok. To my ears, that soundtrack is aimed for not very capable systems, as all the latest blu-rays from Disney. Aquaman definitely is a winner, the same for “Blade Runner 2049”, “Tron: Legacy” or “Dunkirk”, all great mixes. I love your comparisons. :D

    This is an interesting video but its not exactly and apples to apples comparison.. You are running a 800rms sub vs a 400 rms sub and the svs is approximately 50% more expensive as well.. They are not really competitors in the same price point.. Also, db matching a 400rms sub vs a 800rms sub isnt going to give you the same level output.. all the same, I think the svs is a quality sub. Just some things worth mentioning IMO.
