    Ford knows about the issues with the tail lights on the F150's leaking and letting water in causing the tail lights to blow. This is an easy fix and we will show you how to fix the issues yourself, quick and easy and we toss in a little bit of humor to add to the already frustrating issues with the F150 tail lights! This truck was under warranty when it happened and it was reported to the dealer (Cartwright Ford Booneville MS) but they kept putting it off because they were going out of business and I had to pay for a new tail light.

    Koon, I had a 1991 Ford Mercury Topaz, that would collect water in it an burnout the headlight bulb. On advice of a Ford dealership mechanic, I removed the headlight assembly and drilled a small hole (so the hole was facing the inside of the car body) to act as a drain hole. I found a gore-tex vent screen that you install with tape. This screen would allows water out but keeps dirt from the outside world out. It worked great for the 8 years I owned the car.

    Just found this video because my 2011 F150 taillight had water in it. You are right about Ford making crap. I have owned Fords for decades, but the latest stuff from them drove us to finally purchase a GM product. Glad I purchased the extended warranty as we really got our money's worth with that.
    - AC & heater switch failed in the first 3 weeks (on a ski trip in the winter - so no heat). Took 3 months to get the part as it was back ordered nationally. That was a cold winter.
    - AC blew out Freon when the truck shut off (found this in April when we first used the AC). Took 5 different trips to the dealer, and finally flying down a Ford mechanic from their factory to find that a screw had fallen into the compressor line when the truck was built, which caused the compressor to blow out the freon each time it was shut off. Whew! We finally had working AC & heat!
    - Transmission seal leaked badly after four years and 40k miles, while we were on a trip through the mountains, causing the transmission to fail as we tried to drive it to a nearby town. Replaced under extended warranty.
    - Front driver electric seat replaced at 45k miles, as the mounts wore out/got loose. Safety issue.
    - At 50k miles I was going to take a long trip to visit family, so I had the Ford dealer service it and go over it with a fine tooth comb. Did not want to break down on yet another trip. When I picked it up, the RPM guage didn't work when I turned it. Turned it off, grabbed the Ford service manager and he turned it on and everything was fine. Odd, but I went on the trip from TX to NC. ~100 miles short of my destination, the RPM and speedometer gauges quit, could not shift into 1rst or 2nd gear, and was traveling through mountains. Had to use my Garmin to tell my speed. Finally made it to family, called the local Ford dealer and the truck spent the next week in the shop having a transmission sensor replaced. Just squeezed this in under the warranty which ran out 24hrs later!
    - Top rear taillight (in the cab roof) leaked allowing water to pool under the passenger quarter panel. 3 trips to the dealer to get this resolved. Now the taillight is leaking. Sigh...

    The taillight on my My 2016 F250 filled up with blinker fluid, but not only did it give me the fast blinker, it first triggered all kinds of electrical faults - no cruise control, intermittent loss of power, backup camera failed, “AdvanceTrac” warnings, and eventually stuck in limp mode. Me and my buddy discovered the blinker fluid, drained it and put in a new bulb and socket, and lo and behold, all “failures” disappeared. The guys at the dealer had replaced the Body Control Module (?) trying to fix it and it would have cost me $3600 but it didn’t fix anything. A $45 repair from O’Reilly is all it took :)

    I'm surprised that in your anger you left out the most important step. Make certain this is the last $150 tail light lens you ever buy from FORD by squirting a generously thick layer of clear silicon all along the seams of where the lens mates to the housing of the tail light assembly before you screw it back to the body. They seem to mostly leak around the seam.

    If you have a bliss sensor and this happens you are in for even more fun with your blinker fluid causing your whole truck to go haywire. If you have bliss it can cause your heating and cooling system to shut down, bliss to turn off, front windows to not work, power running boards to not work, and airbag lights to come on and navigation to shut down. Good news is you can still roll your back windows down and use slider window, radio still works and blinkers still work. Talk about a freak out moment while driving. Whole truck just becomes possessed. Well I took off the rear light and it was filled with blinker fluid. Disconnected it from truck and everything works again. The damn blinker fluid caused all of those problems. Why is it most commonly passenger side tail light as well from what I have read from others. I am not throwing my old light like that until I get the new one tomorrow though....lol

  • @richardbates2367
    @richardbates2367 Před 3 lety +3

    I've actually ran across that problem on several square body GM trucks, that's why I know when I get one to replace the taillight gaskets.., but as far as I'm concerned that's just another reason I don't need a newer truck than my early 94 Chevy Silverado extended cab short bed z71 265, miles on its 3rd motor and 2nd transmission, and it's tailights are scratched but not leaking.. anyways the build quality of newer trucks should be better..

    Clay this may be one of your best videos to date!!!......The sarcasm to the el padro music after the new assembly install was great!!.......Now to the nitty gritty, Ford should be ashamed of themselves for not taking care of that......What is with all you fellas down there with not being able to get anything properly repaired through Ford down there??(This light and Joes truck??) Well someone higher up needs to look into the regional warranty rep and their factory engineer troubleshooters that manufacturers send out when there is a 3 time come back for the identical problem on the same damn vehicle!!

    • @KoonTrucking
      @KoonTrucking  Před 3 lety

    • @aaronrepsher7628
      @aaronrepsher7628 Před 3 lety

      Going out of business or not those crooks still could've given you a new assembly even if they didn't have one in stock they could've grabbed you one off a inventory vehicle and just ordered in one and put it back on their stock vehicle!......I don't know maybe its just me but I worked in GM dealership for 12 years and we bent over backwards for our customers day in and out so when I see something like this or hear about something like Joes "special" situation it kind of throws me for a loop because towards they end of my dealership career I was personally doing "lemon" vehicles from other dealers in our region(Philadelphia region) of vehicles that were back to other dealers for the same complaint multiple times and they would send that vehicle over to me and I would work with GM directly and solve they issue which everyday I'd have multiple conversations with the same "engineer" when it was problems that weren't your "common repeat failure field problems". So being involved in that type of operation just kind of strikes me odd to not see another domestic manufacturer not taking the same steps or even pride in their product for that matter!! Maybe you can use your platform on here and reach out to Ford and get things like this and Joes Truck noticed and maybe something will begin to change!!

    Reason #126,439 I will not a vehicle newer than 2012ish. Should have the $180 led aftermarket pair from eBay/Amazon/etc and sealed the lenses with clear silicone, because any aftermarket lights you must seal with silicone because they’ll leak too, and been done with junk Ford parts! Criminal a vehicle made 10-12 years ago or longer is a better made vehicle than what is being produced today.

    But that design to leak from the moment it was made. They will not redesign that.

    This exact truck also has GROUND wire issues. The issue is they wear out of break/rust in half completely. We replace these all the time at the shop thanks to paying the Kentucky Plants electrical engineer to show us the way. There is a multitude of errors and issues that come from this ONE THING! Grounds!! They have accounted for almost 50% of the errors we get off the computer. Yet No one and I mean NO ONE ever considers these wires because they look so simple and benign. Oh hey see! they look fine. 😂 until you take one off the frame or body. Then you know.

    I have a weird situation I hope someone can help me with. I did all of the above and it does work... The bottom light in the replaced tail light works only when braking and when I press to unlock the car. It shuts off right after. When the car is running, the upper light is on, but the bottom is off. The other side works perfectly :/
