I'm optimistic.
Scotty, you forgot to mention that all EcoBoost engines are flex fuel (they can use E85, which is a mixture of 85% ethanol and 15% regular unleaded gas). E85 is actually preferred fuel for EcoBoost engines. Using E85 results in more power, and is costs about 25% less than regular gas. Also E85 is less harmful to the environment than regular gas.
I am thinking about getting an F-150 PowerBoost (EcoBoost+hybrid) - it gets 24/24/24 MPG (and some people even claimed having up to 35 MPG in the city)

Either that or a car company did something and is going bust. Heard that one a bunch.
He is absolutely right. Ecopoof engines are garbage. Going on the 4th generation and they are still imploding on themselves. Just have a look at the recall list. That’s just the issues Ford can’t hide or run from.

I towed a 7,000 lb enclosed trailer from Arkansas to Michigan with my 2017 F-150 3.5 turbo, it was phenomenal, I kept forgetting that I even had a trailer back there
I have a 2.7 with 150,000 miles on it, and no problem on it. I love it!
the first gen 2.7 seems to be more reliable than the 3.5 Ecoboost.

As someone older, it's impossible to justify paying more for a vehicle than I did my house.

I've been driving Ford pickups all my life, (been driving for 60 years...) and I have a 2016 F-150 with 135K miles. It has the 2.7 liter twin turbo Ecoboost, and it's the best engine I've ever owned. Have pulled a 19' foot boat to Canada twice and you can barely tell it's behind you. Got 16-17 mpg pulling the boat, and get 24 mpg on the highway without it. It's been the most bullet-proof truck I've ever owned. Use synthetic oil and change every 10K myself.
On my fourth f150, 4.6, 3.7, 2.7, and now I have the 3.5 in my 2016, put 155k miles on it and only change the oil when it tells me to, full synthetic. Absolutely no issues🤞🏾. But I had the most fun in the 2.7, it seemed more spunky than all of em.

2012 f150, 5.0 6 speed crewcab. 190,000 miles. bought used with 165k. love it so far.
I have a 2021 with the V6 ecoboost and love it. Aside from stupid minor computer glitches (which I suspect all modern vehicles will suffer from) it has performed flawlessly and pretty good on gas, too. Thing is a rocket.

I've got a 2018 F150 with 3.5 eco. I commute and average 21+mpg at 65-70 mph. I occasionally pull a car hauler trailer with no issues whatsoever. 171k miles on it so far it and still drives like new. Paid $45k for it used in December 2019. Prices now are unreal so I'll keep it for awhile. I love it.
I want V-8’s in a truck. No turbos! Longevity is a must with a pickup. If you choose wisely, you only buy one in your life. 😂

I'm old enough to remember the flathead. That passed into history, and someday, for whatever reason, so will the monster V-8s and V-10s. I remember when "small" cars were rare on the highways, except for the Beetle, which was everywhere. Now, there's seldom seen an old '68 Pontiac Bonneville Wide Track about 25 foot long floating along with the top down, a magic carpet to the Eternal Vacation Cabin.

You know…I used to think the same thing but I’m literally involved in the drivetrain manufacturing industry for my career….ill just say there’s a reason Toyota (who sucks the proverbial d**k of reliability lol) opted to go to smaller displacement well cooled forced induction engines, & especially a reason they begged BMW to build their halo legend sports car & stuff their sweet B58 inline 6 turbo engine beneath the hood. Facts don’t care about your feelings (of n/a V8s anyhow😂😂😂)
Not if you live in a salt state.. they all still rot. My last truck was only 11 years frame rotted from the inside out.
But, the 3.5L Ecoboost tows thousands of pounds more than the 5L V8 Scotty. At altitude, I beg the V8 to beat the Ecoboost.

Ford makes great vehicles. I had one once that made it all the way to 38,000 miles. The only thing I had to do was replace the motor mounts, new shocks and struts, brakes and rotors, main engine seal, heater core, spark plugs and a starter. Other than that it ran like a dream.
You sure it was a Ford and not a RAM? My F150 is just getting started and it’s got 150k on it. Wish I had a GM that ever lasted that long.
Ford is known for reliability and quality. Our Taurus made it to 326 000 kms. It needed a second engine, would have needed a 3rd transmission and I can't even begin to list all the other failed parts. Our 4 Toyotas combined cost less than one Ford to maintain.

I have a 2020 F-150 4x4 with the 5.0 and 26,000 miles and I could not be happier. Wonderful, perfectly reliable.
Give it another 40-50k, after the warranties are expired. I hope you do better than I am.

I have a 2013 F-150 4x4 with the 5.0 V8. Got about 105,000 miles and still runs great. I always get new Michelin tires and it really runs a lot smoother.

I bought a Ford 150 FX2 ecoboost in 2013 new. I still have it. I've towed a bunch and it's fine. It doesn't get the gas mileage they say but it's so comfortable to drive. I have leather heated and cooled seats and they are still like new. I haven't had any problems yet and I'm never getting rid of it.
Bought a 2005 STX 4WD new. Still going strong 19 years later👍
Been very reliable. Nothing but routine maintenance. Has 4.6 V8 in it.
I've had 2 f150 with the 4.6 v8 super reliable engine.
That 4.6 was one of the best motors Ford made

I honestly spent 0 dollars fixing anything on the engine. 4.6l are the best engine Ford ever made.

I love my 2019 5.0 Lariat. Originally an Enterprise rental. It was six months old with 14,000. On the odometer, they prorated the original warranty and I got it for 34, fully loaded without a scratch. This is f-150 number 5 and it doesn’t disappoint. In about five more years I’ll go for #6. They last if you take care of it.
That’s a good buy lol. I just bought a 2019 5.0 xlt with 25k miles for around 35k 😬. I got the extended warrenty tho but I’m hoping it lasts me a good couple years since it’s both my work vehicle and daily driver. It’s the backbone of my business rn 😂

I bought a 2022 f150 STX with the 5.0. Put over 16k miles on it and don't have any regrets. The gas mileage is atrocious, but I knew what I was getting into beforehand.

What's atrocious? I'm curious how bad it could be. I used to have an old Toyota Land Cruiser that got 10mpg. And in return for that, it had absolutely no power. That was fun.

Let me know how good it is & how many problems you have in 5 more years. If you have any major issues in the first 8 years. It is junk. You should not have any major issues in the first 8 years.
Last year bought my 2nd 2.7 Ecoboost powered F150, the first 94K and not the first problem, best vehicle I ever owned and I’m 61, the thing would scat, the 2.7 towed 5 thousand pound camper just fine. The 23 has same 2.7, lower 3:73 rear cloth bench, longer 6.5 bed and FX4 package. Old truck got 20.4 and this one is averaging 21.5 and no stop start, Thank the Lord!
2.7 is a great engine. I would be worried about longevity with a 4 cylinder turbo especially towing. If you use the best oil money can buy and change it every 3,000 miles or 6 months average driving,or every 5000 miles with all long trip easy driving it may last.

You're getting better mpgs than my 5.0 DOHC V8 Mustang with manual and have big truck that is probably 4x4. Love the 2.7, would love to see Ford boost it to 350 horsepower and 450 lb-ft.
the '23 has the second gen 2.7, so it will be interesting to see how reliable it turns it to be. They do have a belt-driven oil pump. The belt is immersed in oil.
@@adotintheshark4848 '18 is the second gen, when they added port injection in addition to the direct injection and the oil pump belt. I am skeptical of the belt, but there have been millions sold over 7 years now and I have yet to hear of one single instance of that belt failing.
I have that exact truck. Mine is a 21 so the headlight bezels are clear, not black. Agree with everything said in this video for all the same reasons. Have added a few cosmetic/functional mods in 2 years but would buy it again in a heartbeat.
I have a 2017 FX4 with the 2.7 and I love it. Faster than my previous v8, plenty powerful, and extremely reliable (so far). Leather still looks like new. I do tow a 5k pound trailer occasionally and while it has plenty of power, my mileage drops in half. But you can't have everything.
I love my 2021 Lariat 3.5 Twin Turbo.
I just ordered the 2024 Platinum with the same 3.5

I have been running Dodge/Ram trucks since 1998 but the $9000 off and 1.9% financing on 2023 F-150’s got me.

I remember my dad going to Rayco and covering the cloth seats on his 58 Chevy Biscayne with clear plastic covers. Cold as hell in winter and would stick to your legs in the summer and cause mild burns 😅

2010 F150 with the 4.6 3valve, 160k miles and she doesn’t leak, tap, skip. Runs as good as the day I bought her 7 yrs ago, now the rust is another story, but as long as she runs, shifts and stops when needed why buy a new one when all have issues not just Fords.
I have a 2019 XLT Super Crew with the 6 Ecoboost and chrome package. I get over 20 mpg around town. I'm 75 and if I live to be 95, and still can climb behind the steering wheel, I'll be driving it, because I only go 5K miles per year and it is a great vehicle. Gas may go up to 10 bucks a gallon, but it will be cheaper to own than any EV or most other cars. Ford rates the 2.7 Ecoboost for at least 225,000 miles. By the way. We have dual power heated seats ( my wife had to have one too) in the front with a fold down console. It's always left down. It's fine and has a lot of storage. However, someone else could ride there if necessary. We also have the cloth seats. I had leather in my prior vehicles. Nothing wrong with the cloth. I need to clean them though. Will do that when it gets warmer. Anyway, I love my truck.

I bought my 2016 F150 XLT with the 302a package, thus outfitted very well. I'm the second owner, but I got all the paperwork/receipts since new, as the fellow that bought originally always took it to the same dealer. It needed one exhaust manifold (warranty) but other than that, here it's 2024 and I'm coming up on 136K miles and it runs perfect! I've not had any issue, and I still keep oil changes to 5K and use the recommended Rotorcraft semi-synthetic and quality oil filter. The power these 3.5 Ecoboost put out in 'Sport' mode is crazy, not that I use it often, as I do personally drive for fuel mileage, and on a photography trip I took last year, I was getting 23 mpg, and that was mountain driving, so I was pleased. It's truly, a pleasure to drive, yet I often wonder if the higher end trucks put a higher end sound system in them? Mine is ok, but my last F450 King Ranch dually had a sub woofer and lots of speakers, and definitely preferred its sound over what I have now. Not complaining, as it's just ok...but I do love my tunes!
I have a 2016 F150 4x4 3.5 N/A and I love it.
I have a 2003 Silverado 1500, 5.3 with 323 rear end. It got 20 mpg the day I bought it new and it gets 20 mpg right now 170,000 miles later. Brakes tires, oil, axle seals, tailgate latch. and AC actuator switch. That's it. Oh and it rides like a Cadillac.
5.3 is 1 of the best motors ever made in the modern era.
I have a 2019 F150 3.5 turbo and i absolutely Love it i get around 20 on the highway anf it tows my 30 ft camper with 2 slideouts just fine. No problems because i change my oil every 4,000 miles with full synthetic.
I have a 2019 F150 STX with the 2.7 V6 eco at 80k no issues either. The back up close up camera view is for lining up your tow hitch to your trailer hitch, I guess it would be good for watching out for kids but the back up sensor should warn you as well if something is back there.
I have the 2019 F-150 XLT 4x4 crew cab with the 2.7L V6. Didn’t want the extra crap in the Lariat, but had to get the XLT loaded to get power seats so I could adjust them to something more comfortable than the stock seats that dug right into the back of my leg.
It is the most comfortable road trip vehicle we’ve ever had. It’s not a Mustang but it is fun to drive for as large as it is.
With Blizzak tires I don’t need the 4x4 very much, but I have had to drive into snow drifts out in the country to let the plows go past on the other side of the road-I have to drive to work if it has been plowed to not.
I have a 2015 F150 with the 3.5L Ecoboost. Bought it used 2 years ago with 140k miles (King Ranch, paid $24k, 1/3 of new price). Pot 20k more miles on it so 160k now. I changed all the plugs and fluids in it when I bought it as I did t know the service history.
Really the only issues have been an intermittent catalytic converter code and the rear window defroster quit working (I don't want to replace to fix so I'm ok with that).
It runs good and everything else works just fine.
Pretty good for the miles and age with all the bells and whistles the King Ranch has.
And...it'd a very nice ride.
Interesting. Have any idea if the original tranny is in it? Those drive trains can fail early in those.
My work truck (2016 F150 XLT 2.7 Eco) has 330k miles lol it’s had maintenance and stuff but still running 😂

2016 f-150..2.7 ecoboost..6 speed trans..XL with the air cruz pw package..alloy weels crome bumpers..I get 27 mpg if a baby it..jump on it and wow..its fast..no issues..love my truck

I have a 2022 F-150... V6 2.7 daily driver 60 miles a day! I love it!!!!!!!!!!! best truck i have ever had.. I get like 23 mpg + on the highway!!! 20 combined city and highway!

You'll love it at 200k miles when the transmission needs to get removed to get to the oil pump belt in the rear of the engine to get replaced.

These V6 2.7 engines are solid from what I hear.
I got a 2023 stx with the 5.0 I do not regret it
2.7 might be a good engine, I had one, Pull the Oil Cap off while it is running & it sounds like a rod knocking..!!! Took it to the dealer and they said they all do that... Got rid of it and got a 5.0 Love that motor.
I’m happy with mine. Got a 2017 STX 4wd brand new, only paid $28k for end of year, got a 2.7l in it. I just do regular PM on it and it’s gotten me 165,000 miles so far, everything seems good to go.

The 3.5 EcoBoost will out tow most v8 engines and get better gas mileage towing.
Even if it doesn't get better fuel economy towing, it will certainly outperform all of them including the GM 6.2.
Absolutely, the 3.5 Ecoboost tows great. It tows better than the 5.0 any day. The torque on the 3.5 is a lot higher than the 5.0
My 6.2 Trail boss will out tow that ford junk
@@Bruins77Fan No it won't. The current 3.5 Ecoboost makes more torque (500 lb-ft @ 3,100 rpm) with more torque in the lower rpms. 90% by 1,700 rpm. The 6.2 is only making about 420 lb-ft by 3,100 rpm and has to have premium to make that. Ecoboost does that on regular. It can also tow anywhere from 10,500 lbs to 13,500 lbs depending on options and axle ratio. I know the 6.2 has similar capacity but doesn't make as much torque and has to rev to 4,100 rpm to make peak torque.

Bought my 2007 FX4 new. Not one problem with it, I haven't even had to change one lightbulb in it! My truck was definitely Built Ford Tough! I do all the Basic Maintenance.
I own a 2018 Stx. 112k miles. Still running strong. No issues.
10 speed transmission is crap!
Towing with a v6 is putting high RPM's and strain on the engine with turbos. Lots to go wrong. 🙄
My friend at the local dealership said they are working on them constantly. 😑
That’s funny cause the ecoboost builds power down low, they don’t need to rev and the 2.7 in particular is amazingly dependable with basic maintenance. But I will agree that the the ten speed is just too inconsistent and clunky at times
I talked to a Ford mechanic he said no 2.7 EcoBoost coming in but they do more work on the first gen. 3.5 EcoBoost.
If I was buying a truck, it would definitely be the F150 ! I have a 98 F150 off-road 4 x 4 runs like the day I bought it!
I just recently traded my 2012 f150 with the 3.5 eccoboost. 212,000 miles. I only replaced the fuel driver module. I now have a 2019 F150 3.5 Sport. Amazing truck.
My 04 still runs fine! Most the time
I have a 16 F-150 with same cab. Due to issue I am often using a wheelchair. I can wheel out to my truck, open both doors, toss my wheelchair in the back seat and hop into the driver seat. Can't do that in many vehicles. Thanks.

Thanks to you I got the 2016 5.0 V8 6-speed flex fuel for less than $21k at about 80k miles a while back. Very happy with it. It came tricked out with some really nice stuff. Supercrew XLT 6.5 bed but loaded with a lot of tow and duty additions!

Ecoboosts can go high mileage with no problem. I have a ‘18 5.0 and the biggest and most common issue with them is oil consumption, up to a few quarts every 5k miles
Ford, GM, Ram all look nice until they brick in your driveway. At least you can fill the box with dirt and have a nice $80k planter 😊.
Hey Scotty- the 3.5 V6 EcoBoost tows MORE than the 5.0 V8. The V8 and the 2.7 V6 EcoBoost are entry level engines. 3.5 Ecoobost and PowerBoost are the nicer engines. The PowerBoost tows the most when properly equipped.
All you are doing is putting more stress on a smaller engine . It will never last as long as the 5.0 .

I know people that used to buy Ford trucks and the last couple of years decided to go with Toyota, Honda and other more dependable and less expensive brands

I do occasional heavy towing (8k lbs) with 3.5 eco boost, very powerful but the gas mileage goes down to 10 mpg lol, but I did get the 36 gallon gas tank to compensate. It drives like a champ.
If I’m buying an American truck that has a turbo engine, it’s definitely going to be Ford. They seem to be better overall and they been doing it longer than the other two manufacturers. Heck, even the new tundras are having a bunch of problems and that’s Toyota!
This was also a supercab. The majority of new consumer F150s are crew cabs. I only see new full size pickups in regular and super or extended cabs as commerical vehicles. When I was young - I am almost the same age as Scotty - it was the reverse.
I own a 2004 Ford Ranger 4x4 with a 4.0 L engine. It has 160,000 miles and runs like a top. This year I had to replace the alternator and belt. Recently, the battery had to be replaced for the second time in the nine years, that I have owned it.
Have a 2019 2.7 stx awesome truck no issues and fun to drive

OTD Price on my 2020 5.0 Lariat back in December was $45k it was fully loaded. New same truck and options, the dealership wanted $75k for a 2024. I said heck no! Lol and this used 2020 had under 13k miles was like getting a brand new one!

Just in case you guys didn't know, with all the newer fords, you don't have to hold the key in the start position. Just barely turn the key and let it start on it's own.
2019 150 ford pickup. My v 6 dual turbo charger has a round 400 hp. 490 lb.s of tork. 10 speed auto trans. Towing package. It will hold it's own against any v 8 out there at the time it was built. Platinum package. It's one bad truck. I love mine.

🇺🇲 territory 🇵🇷 I bought one of these October 2020 F150 STX with the 2.7L Ecoboost its crewcab non 4x4 paid $40,000 and couldn't be happier with the truck it has a great ride and average commute is arround 24mpg 570+ miles between tank fill-up and in long trips with 93 octane gasoline it can get up to 28mpg.
My first car (76 Ford Maverick) had three on a tree. If I still had it I could probably leave the key in the ignition and it wouldn't get stolen. 😂

plastic with updated rubber inlayed gasket vs traditional gasket so it seals better longer.
I have towed our 7200# trailer with a F150 3.5 Eco for 5 years & with a F150 - 5L -V8. MPG's are within 1 mi / gal empty or full. The Eco was actually better driving experience than the V-8. A lot better pick up to speed and going up long hills the turbo's kick in. Eco's make & have more torque on the low end. Now towing with a F350 7.3 Godzilla . MPG's towing is about the same as the others. Empty in town & freeway is about 3- mpg's less. but I bought it to tow. No replacement for displacement in this case. Diesels do not get 2x the mileage. More like 10-20% in my experiences & other friends with them.
I have the 2016 F150 with 2.6 L Ecoboost with only 41k. Garage kept and runs and looks new.

Well Scotty you are partly wrong on the towing with the Ecoboost. This one must have been the 2.7 and it is down on horsepower but not on torque to the Coyote 5.0 V8. The 3.5 Ecoboost is down a little on horsepower but way ahead on torque to the V8 and it will out tow it. In fact, the 3.5 will out tow the Ram Hemi and the Chevy 6.2. It is because the V6 Ecoboost makes its torque way down low…..much lower than the V8’s. Also….the V8 is not that much worse on fuel Keep making videos!

You are correct. Mine is a 2018 and it was down 25 horses, but they boosted it since then to match the 5.0
My avg on my 2016 2.7 ecoboost f150 is 20mpg. Put on 100k miles and got my first code, just need to replace a sensor :P

I have a 2016 5.0 V8 XLT supercab that I bought new for $32,000. I drive very conservatively, and my lifetime fuel average is 21.7 mpg according to the display. No issues so far.
You could never give me any eco boost engines for anything. When I want a Ford truck I will buy one with 4 wheel drive crew cab, with a V8.

My 2020 F150 STX crewcab 2.7 EB has been a great truck... I get the oil changed by the dealer and zero issues.. I do not drive much 13,000 miles and being 6'4" it fits me... I do not beat on it and on a flat country road for 50 miles at 45mph, i got 25mph according to old school filling and and calculator
I took same distance drive in my '20 Silverado crew cab z71 5.3. 55-60-mph, I got 26.3 and 30.6 best.
My 2011 Sho is going strong no issues yet.
Although 46k sounds decent for a new ford 4x4. When you realize it’s completely bare bones with even cloth seats makes you see that 46k got you nothing. After taxes and dealer fees it’s probably a tick over 50k
A lot of people want that in a truck. Just like Scotty said “the more options, the more money you spend on repairs”.
The overall truck is the same. All those options are not worth the 40k difference in price.

Nice truck, but I still would not give up my 2024 Honda Ridgeline RTL as it has a better ride and nicer cab.
My F150 crew has nearly double the payload and towing capacity your "truck" does. I can tow TWO of your "trucks" but you can't even tow ONE of mine. Your Ridgeline is a fine vehicle (hell, I'd like to own one if it were doable), but it is NOT a proper, capable truck. It is a Pilot with a bed. Nothing more. Nicer interior or not.

F-150 any day of the week! The 2.7 Eco V6 in the F-150 is a great combo for price and economy. The 2.7 is proving to be a great engine and it's coming in the Ranger also.

I once had a pick up truck, a Ford F-250. I sold it 25 years ago and haven’t had one since. I realized that it was a wasteful way of transportation and have owned nothing but wagons since. You get the best of both worlds!!
Unfortunately everyone has gone nuts with big SUV’s and Pick up trucks consuming huge amounts of fuel!! The exact opposite of what we should be going as a society.
Nothing wrong with a truck but I agree they shouldn't be unloaded daily drivers that get driven mostly on the highway. Lots of vehicles can do that and get much better mpgs. My first vehicle was a new 4cyl manual Ranger I bought 25 years ago and haven't bought a truck since cause I don't need it. I can rent one for $30-$50 for the rare times I actually do need one. Either that or buy a used commuter car like a 8-10 year old Civic and keep the truck just for truck stuff. The fuel savings alone would pay for the Civic and maintenance.
Since men are being degraded in every day society they can only feel some toxicity to feel like men in buying a truck and putting giant tires/lift on it to drive to starbucks or their kids soccer game. This is why Ford and the others charge so much for them. They have sold them the manly lifestyle when in reality a minivan would be a better vehicle.
Commuting daily in a full-size truck is a waste of fuel and space. Yet so many people do it.
My 2.7 F-150's lifetime average fuel economy has been better than my wife's Chrysler minivan.
