An Introduction To Super Formula [2019 Edition]

- "While Super Formula debuted back in 2013, the championship behind it has been around since the early 1970’s.
First as the All Japan Formula 2000 series in 1973, Switching to Formula 2 in 1978, Then to Formula 3000 a decade later in 1988, and lastly to Formula Nippon, the most famous of its incarnations, in 1996.
The Formula Nippon era was when the series first started to gain mainstream attention, with many drivers from outside of Japan heading east to compete.
Several champions and race winners would go on to Formula 1, making the series a viable route to the top step of the single seater ladder.
However, the late 2000’s saw the series popularity fall into decline, but with the rebranding to Super Formula, that interest has come back.
Now, rather than acting as a feeder series to Formula 1, Super Formula has become the top step of the ladder for domestic competition, with pundits often describing the series as the IndyCar of Japan.
And with a healthy combination of foreign and local talents, a single make spec car, and a calendar featuring all of Japans greatest racing circuits, there’s never been a better time to become a fan of the series."
This is the second video in a list that are meant to 'Introduce' different championships to newer fans without going into confusing detail.

This vid was absolutely spot on for the newcomers in Super Formula. I've been watching the 2019 series and it has been pretty good! With Nick Cassidy claiming the Drivers Championship in a great battle at Suzuka.
I would love to see an introduction to Super GT, just because these are the Worlds fastest GT cars, and I'm aiming to see the 2020 season with the new Toyota Supra against the Honda NSX, and the Nissan GT-R.
But in all seriousness, I love these videos, and the editing is great

As a Japanese SF fan, I hope SF will be more international.
There are some former F1 drivers such as Kamui Kobayashi and Kazuki Nakajima. Also they have many talented drivers such as Harisson Newey, Alex Palow, Tadasuke Makino and Nirei Fukuzumi.

I think Super Formula is a very unknown series in Europe. But maybe it is a good fun to watch.

But the real reason Super Formula is great is Artem Markelov. He is my favourite racing driver and is the only reason I am watching the races this year
Agreed. Artem is fast and tenacious. But I also want to see Ticktum to find out if he is worth all those hype from winning 2 years in a row at F3 Macau. Also against those former Japanese F1 racers in the serious as well.
Unfortunately he is struggling. He needs to improve his qualifying pace. It was his weakness in F2 as well.
