Serious question, why doesn’t every team use a robotic front jack?
The driver has to precisely stop just mm before the front jack, it poses a risk that a driver can stop too early or overshoot and hit the front jack which can create more problems and take more time, whereas, in normal human jacks though it is slow, it is consistent.
Sachin Wani makes complete sense. So much sense that I kind of feel silly for not thinking of that myself lol
Cause refueling takes more time even than the classic pitstop, so the method you use doesn't make a particular difference, I think. (sorry for any grammatical error, i'm from italy)
@@gzuz8629 if that was the case why wouldn't they go for the slower, more consistent/safe method?
@@essayedgar sorry, i misunderstood your initial doubt. I wanted to say what you just said: as the refueling takes more time anyway, there's no point in using a robot. They probably use a robot cause no one ever done that before in motorsport... Don't forget that they are Japanese...

this is cool. Japanese economy at its best. Keep the race going on by minimising cost. The reason why they host every races in the world including some thats unique to them. I heard many F2 champions end up racing at superformula because the F1 just cant hire them.
and why could f1 not hire them?

That was Awesome, thank you for breaking it down like that. I know all pit guys are fast and great at there jobs. I kinda always for get those guys are in the race also. And never really play them to much attention, Intill one of them messes up.
I love how it randomly has an anime girls on the nose
The companies behind those cute anime girls have deep pockets, and it costs between 1.3 and 1.5 million US Dollars to run a car in the Super Formula series for one season. I bet the teams are happy to have them on board.
4:32 love that brake dust 😍😍😍

Shout out to the lollipop guy for moving that tire off the air hose.
Do/can they ever end up doing double-stacks? Is there ever more than one car per team? Not familiar enough with this series...
Most teams run two cars, but double stacking is rare. Most drivers tend to choose wildly different strategies from their teammates so it generally makes more sense to leave one car out behind the safety car than risk having them get held up in pit lane.
I do miss these stops. The organizers removed the mandatory pit stop for the 2020 season so teams wouldn't have to bring as many crew members to the track. They ran one race like this so far and it was incredibly processional. Can't wait for the series to bring them back.
2:04 sees anime in front, I press like.
Those tons of hoses/wires all over the place look intimidating.
That big puff of carbon when the tyres are released is not something I've seen before. What causes those brakes (I assume it's the brakes) to melt so much carbon compared to other racing series?
it not uncommon in formula one races. watch carefully.
@@GreatJO SO MUCH CARBON COMPARED TO OTHER RACING SERIES
That implies I know it happens in F1 too
ArgieGrit01 my guess is that the brakes dont cool that easily in Super Formula. Since these cars arent as fast as F1 cars so they obviously have more time on the straights before the braking of the corner. Carbon ceramic brakes need to be very hot for the car to stop well and the brakes have to maintain a specific temperature all the time.
@@GTChucker86 surely engineers can design for working temp and such for carbon brakes to work as well on a car that's only slightly slower than top F1?
Cool
This seems complicated.. I didn’t know pit stops in Super Formula are basically defusing bombs
whats the explosion of black smoke when they remove the tyres

Some guy watches a Hellcat drive past all the F1 cars on the news
They should adopt this 6 man (or 5 now they banned refuelling) maximum approach in F1...or is it the pitcrew are not acrobatic enough
Acrobatics isn't part of F1. Being the fastest and doing sub 2 seconds stop is F1.

Woooo I want this in F1 too 😵

"Just a few SECONDS short of a modern formula 1 car" a few seconds isn't as short as one may think
Well, still right at the back of quali in F1 though? Kubica over 3 sec slower than Bottas yesterday. You must not forget the sad "Williams factor"...
They shuld bring this to F1
*jumps 3 feet* wow crazy, so athletic, I wish I could do that
More like several seconds slower than a F1 Car
4:33 was that carbon dust or something else
I think it was a big cloud of carbon dust from the brakes. IIRC Hirakawa was having some brake binding issues that race and his pads were basically disintegrating as he drove.
Was that not dangerous to race on as he could of lost his brakes and had a serious crash
A little bit. What's interesting about carbon-carbon brakes is that the way they degrade depends heavily on temperature. So if you can cool the brakes down enough, sometimes you can get them to come back, even if they were falling apart earlier in the race.
Once the pad gets to a certain thickness (e.g. too thin to race on), the temperature shoots through the roof and it sets off an alarm in the telemetry. Teams usually rely on that to decide whether to pull the car in and retire it. So yes, not a great situation but potentially not as dangerous as it might seem at first sight.
I wonder whether IndyCar or Super Formula cars are faster
Super Formula
There's a video somewhere in yt that calculate the lap times of formula cars. Super formula, indycar and formula 2 all fall within 118%-120% of formula 1 lap time with SF being the fastest followed closely by F2 and then Indy.
It's so close between all three that if they were to race each other the result would probably depends more on the driver and the track.
@@isserkamajaya9625 IndyCars are faster than F2 I'm pretty sure

@@Trainmaster909 formula 2 and superformula>>>>>indy car
Omg he jumped over the car so acrobatic
Super formula looks WAY More fun than F1. For a start they actually overtake each other without the need for the silly DRS flap. F1 should go back to the time that the cars were able to truly use a tow, and slingshot past. Without DRS F1 would be even more of a procession. Its not always just about speed, there has to be drama, risks, and overtaking. Super formula may not be as fast as F1 but the racing is closer and more fun.
2021 changed to aero rules mean that there's less loss of downforce in a draft situation as well as the shape of the car changing to force downforce to be mostly generated by the floor, decreasing turbulence and increasing overtaking
Seems like the lollipop guy has it pretty easy.
not really, he's in charge of the securety of the other crew members.. if he does a mistake and releases the car to early and someone gets hit or something similar happens, he gwts charged for it.

Wow, fantastic to watch. What a shame F1 doesn't use something like this, instead of "car disappears into wall of mechanics, then reappears magically with new tires". No spectacle, no ballet....
Overhead pit cameras: am i joke to you
I wouldnt say that it is a shame... The goal afterall is to make the pitstop as short as possible not as beautiful as possible.
@@NaturalKillerBoy yeah, that's where F1 forgets that it is a spectator sport. As a race fan, I want to be able to see the spectacle, including the pit stops. A good pit stop does not have to be as short as possible, just quicker than the other guys. This Japanese formula looks really interesting. I will see if I have access to coverage.
