- Cameron Waters from Monster Energy (Tickford Racing) laps Queensland Raceway with a camera mounted above his feet.
Watch on as he works the pedals around this 3.1km circuit in his V8 powered Ford Mustang Supercar. - Sport
Exemplary smooth driving. Very smooth transitions coming off the brakes.
Feels like watching art right? Silky Smooth
I know it's easier said than done... But he could be a bit more agressive on the throttle.
@@ossimlz He might be worried about oil temp, might have been a practice lap.
Correct. Lovely trailbraking too 👍🏼😎
Digital Dreamer Absolutely.
You have to do this pedal camera at Bathurst.
They do it sometimes but not much 👍
Watch this space 😏
There's an old video of exactly that - McConville at Bathurst in the wet from 2009
This is one of the best foot cams I have ever seen
Foot cams of Cam's feet?
Walter rohrl
I've seen better but it depends on taste on how best you'd rank it
PAN1C this is exactly the name I was thinking of except that I didn’t remember it. Now I do, thank you!
Never seen drift king then....
For people asking why he taps the brake on the straight it’s to warm the brakes and build fluid pressure to make sure it’s not soft going into the corner. More consistent pedal feedback that way.
@Jake Heke no hes not.
Jake Heke no he’s not, how often do you race and for what series?
Ive been racing for the last 6 years in both time attack and local challenge series. Do you even know what set back is or are you just reading the comments from other people then repeating what other people are to sound smart?
They teach this in racing school, which I’ve taken a few. It keeps brake pressure up and in some cases keeps the pads in operating temp for maximum performance. When you run race pads too cold or too hot do not stop the car. They have to be with in a specific thermal range for maximum braking efficiency.
Set back is in rare cases and isn’t needed for every turn, consistent brake pressure and temperature is.
So please, don’t speak unless you actually know wtf you’re talking about. We have enough of that bs being spread around these comments already.
Both of you Mr. Jake & Mr. CK are nothing but PlayStation warriors. I checked both your channel for some footage of your racing careers and what ...... THERE'S NOTHING. I may be wrong so if I'm, prove it!
@Jake Heke But you said you have been racing for the last 6 years? Go Pro has been around longer than that.
No he is correcting pad knock back. The pads move slightly out of place when cornering under heavy G forces. Pad knock back is a common thing, even happens in motorcycle racing. Danilo Petrucci for example, his front end started to wobble, knocking the brake pads out of place. Went to brake and felt nothing. Grabbed it even harder and crashed.
Can anyone explain why he's only using the clutch on downshifts with heel-toe, but never touches it upshifting?
Dog box, doesn’t need it
Daryl Lonigan I personally love the sound of quickshifters
Dog box
You don't need to use a clutch downshifting either, most drivers right foot brake but some left foot brake and use no clutch in V8 supercars ,there is no auto blip so you have to blip at the right moment if your not using the clutch, not using the clutch going down the gears in a dog box is a skill in itself. Shift time doesn't mean anything going down the gears anyway, it's usually smoother using the clutch as your more patient so you have a low chance of locking the rear wheels.
The gearbox in a V8 Supercar is the same type as a GT3 car, GT3 cars have a clutch pedal but they never use it for downshifting as they are allowed auto-blip and that means miss shifting is impossible
czcams.com/video/qOjQkAj6r04/video.html
Here is Greg murphy left foot braking and downshifting with no clutch whatsoever.
You take more risk locking the rear making a mistake but if you can do it it's great, most drivers in this series say though it's not a advantage for these cars as the roll on to the throttle off the brake is quite slow anyway as the big heavy chassis's are pitch sensetive
this dude's footwork driving a 600hp monster at the limit is smoother than mine when im on my way to the store
Anyone can explain why he is tapping the brake on the straight?
To check that the car has brake pressure, usually they do this before heavy braking areas
If I remember well, it's to replace the brake pads; because of the vibrations it gets when going over a kerb or road imperfections at high speeds, the pads may be displaced (just a little bit). If I remember well this is the real explanation.
Yeah tallica55 is correct. It’s just to make sure they have brake pressure
Thanks. Never noticed before. it makes sense.
Watch Scotty Pye's crash at QR a couple years ago, thats what they're trying to diagnose early in the straight before it gets to that point
Love this video, it really highlights how much work needs to go into the pedals.
Could just listen to that all day long!
I dont get tired of watching this.
This is very helpful for sim racing. Thank you!
Amazing driving technique
The perfect on-board video/sound does not exi....! 😮
Dear god, please bless me to drive like him one day..
@Jerry sure..i will dream my best to a dream car😂... from India (Manipur)..
@Jerry really appreciate for your words and kindness.. god bless to you and your family..👍
That's the same technique I use when I leave work on Friday arvo in my Getz!!!
Those are some tender footmovements … thanks !
Great capture of the foot work.
Love that gear noise, it's the sound of precision engineering.
I'll drive fast in reverse just to hear similar.
Quick question these cars don't engine brake that well do they? Even with reduced revs the lightened internals and better machined parts means the reduced friction and lower weight has less of an effect, right?
Gunzee these cars actually thrive on engine brake, Well... Used to, Even the drivers who left foot brake will blip the throttle with their right foot to make sure they are braking the car with the RPM’s. It’s reasonably useful with these cars
I am in awe, That is phenomenal:o
Greatest foot. Job id ever seen
Good video too see what trail braking looks like. A technique everybody should learn imo.
Cheapest, easiest way to dial out under steer in any car 😉
Here before this video blows up
So, he's heel and toe revving first, then hitting the clutch, and then downshifting. Am I right? Is this the right procedure for a dog box?
That little brush on the brake he does at the straights are to clean the disk?
Wowwww!! I never knew they had to manually match the revs when they chop down the gears like that! Exceptionally amazing driving! Crash box right? Sorry I dunno much about racing
That thing is a missile! Wow!
Race car with clutch in 2019? I want it so bad.
Clutch only on downshift tho
racecar with clutch ?
lmao doesnt every dedicated racecar come with a clutch (except electrics)
I think he is implying a manual clutch.@@DarkIzo
Corrie Gillett i dont know every single motorsport out there and dont know alot about those i know but afaik every single racecar, that ist not strictly run in automatic, requires a clutch for starting and stopping, other than that electronics or dog gears handle the rest
my point is that im quite sure that most racecars have a clutch, even though it seems they go semi-auto (f1 for example)
@@rykaphotomedia No dogbox requires a clutch on upshifts. This one also has ingnition cut so a release of the throttle is not required.
That's pretty bloody cool
Those boots are so cool.
Impressive skills
Wow, a mustang driver that knows what he’s doing? Shocker
That's farrrrr from a mustang 🤣, it's just the body
This is a pro driver
ASHT9N TRIVE28E its not even the body😛 but a weird "almost" version of a mustang
I loved how he only let go the gas on close corners.
Why does he slightly tap the break with his left foot every now and then?
Anybody know why he lightly taps the brake on the flat out straights?
Why does he tap the brakes very lightly when going into the corners?
I don’t think people understand how hard it is to learn the footwork for these even for me in a sim for formula Ford practice it was tough
Why does he give the brake pedal little touches with his left foot when he's in the straights?
He drives that thing like a slingshot, precise asf
Nice vid Supercars
Good stuff bro:)
More videos like this please
what is the left foot brake
Why does he touch the brake with his left foot sometimes?
Question. Is he tapping the brake off of habit( the light taps) or does that help before he starts to brake hard
It's to make sure the pads are close to the discs before needing to brake properly. When you ride the kerbs you get what is called pad knock off where the pads move away from the disc so when you come to brake the pedal travels far further than normal which is not good at all. I have it had happen to me twice and it wasn't until the second time I actually realised what was going on.
What is the purpose of that very gentle blip on the brakes usually prior to hard braking or on the straights? It doesn't even seem to engage the brakes / brake lights
Three Big Ideas builds pressure
Clutch only for downshifts?
Why does he tap the brake while still accelerating??
Why does he tap the brake before every braking zone ?
@supercars couldn't you get some full races
Interesting that the cars still use a clutch with the sequential like that.
Q: Why this guy touches the brake several times right before enter the corner?? I mean before he breaks down. Checking breaks or something??
It’s cos when the cars go over kerbs it can push the brake pads out so he taps the brake to pull the back in, they also press it as a confidence thing so they know that the brakes will work
I'm confused, why is there no clutch in the up shift, only in the heel toe down shift?
Nevermind, just a couple posts down answered it
Touching the break when flooring it down the straight? What’s the reason behind that?
Z R bring the pads to rotor
Can someone tell me why he is tapping the brake pedal on the straight?
ThΞKnight because when they go over curbs the brake pads can be moved so they tap the brake pedal to push them back to the original spot, it’s also so they have confidence that the brakes will work when they hit them
those 3 pedals are normal clutch brake throttle or a special configuration? if not mistaken the clutch only using when downshifting?
ΛΝDΗΣΣ correct, he is only using the clutch on downshifts. Supercars run dog-boxes so they don’t need to use the clutch on upshifts.
@@jakegladman2865 they also have rev cut on the way up
heel toe to keep revs at optimum torque range. only that they use sequential instead of an h shifter...
@@jakegladman2865 sequential trans right?
Trail braking, smooth on the throttle, excellent heel toe.. I'd hate to chase this guy down on the track
What for is he touching the brake pedal with his left foot in the middle of the straight line??? Anybody know
To put the pads of the brakes back in place, as sometimes with the vibrations they can be knocked off
Why is clutch only pressed on downshifts? Also, why does he tap the brakes a econd before full braking in a corner? To make forward weight transfer to initiate turn in?
that supercharger sounds beautiful
Dingo supercharger? Pretty sure these don’t have a supercharger that whine is from the sequential gear box
@@haydenveld8516 good to know
Mustang and supercar in the same sentence. Never thought
Ryan Shurtz what do you think a supercar is then?
It's the name of the class.
Why he touching break pedal before the turns. Firstly he touches after 2-3 sec breaking and turning
Little slice of heaven
NASCAR needs these cars(minus huge wing) out on the track. You know, something related to a stock car
Sam Kessler NASCAR should really go back to what they are if they want to win fans back. Stock production cars.
Though these Supercar tourers are far from stock much like DTM.
The thing won’t stay on the ground if you take away the wing
Is there a clutch pedal? Coz if there isn’t why does he need to heel and toe?
Yeah there is u can see his left foot depress it when he shifts down, he doesn’t need it when shifting up as these cars have a dog box which means they don’t need a clutch to shift up but they need to let off the throttle but in these cars they have a system that automatically pulls the throttle off when they select a gear meaning that they can flat shift
I didn’t know they switched to the Mustang. Cool.
They don't make Ford falcons anymore so now they are on to the mustangs and they also don't do holdens now so they might race camaros
Is he taping the brakes on the straight-way to put a little heat/temperature into the brakes before he initially brakes for the corner?
Yup. Also to maintain fluid pressure.
@@frise6183 absolutely not, it's to prevent the pad knock off, when running over curbs, and in general at high speeds with those levels of vibrations, the brake pads tend to detach from the disk, the brake tapping puts them back in place before the actual braking
Can someone explain why he taps the break going down the straight
mainly to check that they have brake pressure before a heavy braking zone (QR has a fair few), also pumping the pedal so there is no slack when they need to brake, along with the added factor of pad knockback when they fly over curbs, the dab puts the pads back on the rotor
I enjoyed this video. Can someone tell me why is he tapping the brakesike that thhis left foot?
Because when they go over curbs the brake pads can sometimes get pushed away so they tap the pedal so that it returns to the original spot, they also do it so that they have confidence in the brake so they know that they will be able to stop
@@haydenveld8516 thank you for that didnt know.
What’s with the mid-straight brake taps?
Pad knockoff, so everytime he hits a corner and/or kerbs, specially sausage kerbs, the pads are going to be fired away from the disc because the pads will hit the disc and get jostled out of place, so the tapping of the brake is to bring the pads back into position, otherwise the braking will be delayed and by the time you get to the corner, you're still going 170km/h
Seems lime he is tapping the brake pedal while still flooring the Accelerator in a straight line ?
It’s to stop what’s called “pad knock off”. So you’re basically giving a slight bit of brake pressure to bring the pads back into contact with the rotors. Just insures you have instant bite.
What was that loud noise at 0:50 was the straight that long that he hit the redline?
That would’ve been him hitting the rev limiter
And yeah they would’ve geared up the car to hit the limiter at the end of the straight
Footwork like a ballerina...
What is the brake tap for, to make sure they still work?
Yeah y do they do that???
kiran babu couple reasons, most likely just to flash the brake lights for the cars behind them so there’s no surprise hard braking. Probably just muscle memory or a good habit as nobody’s really chasing on this lap. It also can be to test for brake pressure through resistance in the pedal, makes sure you don’t get up to the turn at full bore and suddenly find yourself with a useless footrest in the pedal box
great sound without any usnecessary comments
I didn’t think the sequential gearbox needed the clutch on downshifts. I always imagined them left foot braking
There are actually but that one is dogbox electronic sequential shifter. Still using the stick. In this video it's mechanical one.
I’m so confused. So the car shifts for him going up gears but not down? I’m so confused.
Car does not shift for him, he shifts every time. However, with that gearbox he doesn’t need to use the clutch at all for the gearboxes sake, however he needs it to maintain stability under braking. If he didn’t use the clutch and rev match, there would be a huge risk for a lock up in the rear and spinning out.
Is practicing this on a normal car ok?
As in changing gear while acc & braking same time
Yes, it's called "heel and toe" and actually benefical for your car health. Doesn't matter if it is a racer car or daily road car.
driving masterpiece
Why he pressing Excelerator and break with the same foot...????
Is it just me or do the Tickford cars sound different to what they used to? They used to have a very distinctive exhaust note, I noticed it was gone at Townsville...
You're not the only one... it sounded more deep in yoears gone... now it almost sounds like the holden and nissan hey
@@i_am_slow_7233 To me they sound a like a Walkinshaw engine, but I doubt that is the case... Maybe they just changed their exhaust?
I am guessing so and maybe some other changes? I have no clue but definitely something's different.
They were struggling for HP so maybe thats why the change has happened...
Is he pumping the brakes ?
QR Need the upgrade back straight put a fast S-bend in it And between turn 3-4 a bend in it aswell more technical and so more corners. Up mustang 👌🇦🇺
Is that brake or clutch pedal on the center/left?
Cba bro😂
What's with the brake tapping?
Because G forces in a corner tend to push the brake pads away from the brake disc so before a braking zone the driver will tap the brakes to get the pads closer to the disk for a better braking
Making sure they have brake pressure before the braking zone👍
@Amer mur
*IM* right and *YOURE WRONG*
@@benfennell6842 He actually is right
@@nofckyou4564 yes yes yes and yes
But still
Steering wheel cam next!
Why does he have to clutch on the downshift but not on the up shift?
Sequential box
Fucken sounds like a space ship, awesome!
Is that arch toe-ing lol. I have the same problem😉
Why does he tap the brake on the straight?
When the cars run over the kerbs they experience knock off in the brakes... the brake pads basically move away from the disc, so it brings them back and gives pressure again :)
0:50 why does he press braking pedal while acceleration
I could be wrong but I believe he just making sure that the brakes will work when he needs to hit them hard but
I wanna know why he press the break when he acceleration
to check brake pressure before a braking zone
Why does he uses the Clutch when he Break but Not when He accelerate?
All supercars run dog boxes, meaning that their shifts up are semi-automatic (Automatic clutch, driver still has to make shift), however they still engage the clutch for a more efficient/quicker downshift
@@joelwilnierak3361 ohh, didnt know IT, thanks 😝👍
How come he needs slightly pressing the breaks on the straight?
Marcus Wilson build pressure
Why does he tap the brakes on the straightaway?
Han Solo build pressure
Why he touch the bake when he accelerate?
Because G forces in a corner tend to push the brake pads away from the brake disc so before a braking zone the driver will tap the brakes to get the pads closer to the disk for a better braking
Can someone tell me why hes nabbing the brakes. Not when he heel toes, just when he presses it for a 100th of a second with his foot
two things could be both or either. The g forces in the turns cause the pads to be pushed back in the caliper so tapping it makes sure the brake is out far and snug against the rotor for maximum braking, second is to make sure he had brake pressure before fully committing to all out braking.
Art
I'm not a pro at these things but why is he slightly pushing the acceleration pedal while braking and downshifting?
to rev match
trying to sync engine rpm to rear wheels speed/inferior gear ratio before releasing clutch
espectacular muy entretenido!
What’s rev cutting?
Cars are limited to 7500 RPM's, so when it reaches it at the end of the straight it cause the engine to cut back so it does not blow up.
That car sounds sick as fuck....id love to drive it...
