Darth Vader is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. The character is the primary antagonist in the original trilogy and, as Anakin Skywalker, is a primary protagonist in the prequel trilogy. Star Wars creator George Lucas has collectively referred to the first six episodic films of the franchise as "the tragedy of Darth Vader".
Originally a slave on Tatooine, Anakin is a Jedi prophesied to bring balance to the Force. He is lured to the dark side of the Force by Palpatine and becomes a Sith lord, assuming the title Darth Vader. After a lightsaber battle with his former mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi, in which he is severely injured, Vader is transformed into a cyborg. He then serves the Galactic Empire as its chief enforcer until he ultimately redeems himself by saving his son, Luke Skywalker, and killing Palpatine, sacrificing his own life in the process. He is also the secret husband of Padmé Amidala, biological father of Princess Leia, and maternal grandfather of Jacen Solo.
The character has been portrayed by numerous actors: David Prowse physically portrayed Vader while James Earl Jones voiced him in the original trilogy, and Sebastian Shaw portrayed the unmasked Anakin in Return of the Jedi, as well as the character's spirit in the original release of that film. Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen played the character in the prequel trilogy in the first and next two films, respectively, and the latter also replaced Shaw as Anakin's spirit with the 2004 re-release of Return of the Jedi. His cinematic appearances span the first six Star Wars films, as well as Rogue One. He is referenced in both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and makes vocal cameos as both Vader and Anakin in The Rise of Skywalker. He also appears in television series (most substantially The Clone Wars) and numerous iterations of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, including video games, novels, and comic books.
Darth Vader has become one of the most iconic villains in popular culture, and has been listed among the greatest villains and fictional characters ever. The American Film Institute listed him as the third greatest movie villain in cinema history on 100 Years... 100 Heroes and Villains, behind Hannibal Lecter and Norman Bates. His role as a tragic hero in the saga was also met with positive reviews.

Your reasoning to claiming Count Dooku’s power is universal is because of a rule which only apply to dead authors. Well last time I made sure George Lucas is alive and even if he was you are still wrong. It’s nothing but head cannon with nothing to back it up, if anything evidence suggests he isn’t some universal fighter like a DBZ character. It’s too far fetched!😂

The craziest thing is Vader is wielding a weak version of Tutaminis, (my favorite force ability) if he could achieve complete Tutaminis (a hereditary thing) he could passively eat any energy sent his way, Anything force related gone anything with kinetic energy gone, anything with potential energy gone, lightsabers and blasters gone, punches gone. And all that energy would allow him to further enhance his force abilities to the point of making black holes with enough energy.

3:16 I honestly have to agree here. That’s not to say he’s not weaker than he would be. As a Jedi Knight Anakin was powerful yes, however as Vader he had more time to train in the dark side. Even with the handicaps he has, he has had room to grow. And honestly that just goes to show just how powerful he could have been. The dude still hits like a goddamn Death Star. And even if he’s only 20% as powerful as Ol palpy, That’s still pretty damn powerful

I think Vader being 80% of Palpatine's power is assuming Palps uses his entire Dark Side repertoire against Vader, including things such as his manipulation of Midichlorians and Force suckage.
      Two problems arise, however:
      1. Palpatine's Force abilities tend to be more on the passive side. Ignoring obvious exceptions such as Force Lightning, he's a more hidden Sith than Vader. Almost all of Vader's powers are dedicated towards fighting. This means that while Vader may not be able to create life, he's a stronger combatant.
      2. Palps is old and weak. While Vader's suit is built to be easily disabled via Force Lightning, who says Vader won't attack when Sheev has his back turned? We clearly see how Yoda, after so much time not having any enemies and growing old, is barely able to lift an X-Wing out of the ground. Meanwhile, Vader can pull up Star Destroyers.

Imo Vader might not have as near as much potential as Anakin, but Vader was able to freely use a lot more of his potential than Anakin could have possibly hope to match. In Disney cannon it's admitted that Anakin had a load of raw power in the Force but could only access it with a rage boost. Whereas Vader could access comparable or greater amounts of Force power with ease and finesse because Vader was far more in-tune with the Force.

I do believe that Vader could be as powerful, if not more powerful, than Anakin. The reason why I say this is while Anakin may have been able to tap into immense power levels of the Force, the Jedi usually held him back because Jedi don't seek power. While Vader's injuries prevented him from tapping into that potential, he became even more devoted to the Force than he ever was as Anakin, and learned of new powers that Anakin never would have learned if he stayed with the Jedi.

I think it comes down to one major thing: Anakin didn’t try as hard as Vader.
Anakin didn’t really have to try, he was strong and powerful, more powerful than most Jedi, but he didn’t *need* to try as hard as possible to become the most powerful, since there wasn’t a huge drive to do so. There were two instances though where that wasn’t entirely true; first was Mortis, when he had to choose between Obi-Wan or Ahsoka, so he decided the best way to win without choosing was to harness Mortis’ power to man-handle the Son and Daughter. The second instance was with Padmé, when he felt he had to become as strong as possible to save her, but beyond these two times, Anakin didn’t have a drive to truly become the strongest.
Vader was very different, he didn’t just *want* to become as strong as possible, he *had* to. Vader was weakened more-so than ever before after his injuries, and he would forever be weaker than Sidious, and he knew if he remained weak, then his master would dispose of him. So, to please Sidious, and prove he was a worthy Sith, he trained, reworked his entire fighting style, learned techniques and powers he never did as Anakin, and had to turn most of his weaknesses into his strengths, since his suit compromised much of what made him the powerhouse he was during the Clone Wars was gone after Mustafar.
That’s just my two-cents though, if anyone else has other ideas please comment them, I’d love to read and discuss these things, thank you for reading.

    • @hadikhan5197
      @hadikhan5197 Před rokem +4

I think it was more down to ignorance rather than lack of trying . Anakin only knew the Force as he was told by the Jedi, and the Jedi hid a lot of shit due to their Paranoia regarding the Dark Side. There were limits and boundaries for the Jedi but none for the Sith.
As about him being Obsessed with Power, that’s neither here or there. Everyone was obsessed with Power and Everyone loved to exercise it. The Jedi Council being an Example of the same. Powerful Jedi we’re higher in rank and more respected. The difference being that Anakin had way more potential than the average Jedi. Or any Jedi for that matter.

To summarize what he is saying around 5:00, the whole point behind the "Death of the Author" trope is that if the author's words is directly contradicted by the story, then the author's words must be put into question. Basically if I was writing a book and I said in an interview that a certain character was wearing always wears blue shirt when it was shown multiple times that he always wear a red shirt, then I would be wrong. And that Sidious genuinely wanted Anakin to one day realize his full potential and replace him as the master, but after his failure on Mustafar, and the injuries he received from that failure, that’s when Sidious started to resent him for said failure, injuries, and wasted potential, and began to want to replace him with a new apprentice who could one day succeed him and carry on the Rule of Two

Anakin may have arguably have had a stronger connection to the force, but Vader was certainly better at using it. By taking just the movies into account and ignoring all the expanded universe stuff, I think it’s pretty clear that OT Vader outclasses PT Anakin in how they use the force. We never see Anakin do things like choke someone through a tv monitor while simultaneously giving orders to another imperial officer. Nor do we see him telekinetically hurling multiple objects at an opponent with minimal gestures. The most we see of Anakin using the force in the prequels is the usual Jedi stuff of deflecting laser fire, dueling and force assisted acrobatics. Things that Vader shouldn’t have a problem handling. Even Anakin’s ability to see into the future isn’t exactly something he can call on at will most of the time.

In the revenge of the sith novel when him and obi wan are trying to get on board the ship where dooku has palpatine hostage, anakin's doing a risky maneuver and obi wan tells him to let the force guide him and it actually kinda frustrates anakin. Whereas when he becomes vader someone speaks bad about the force in front of him and he just starts force choking them for their stupidity

As someone who writes myself, I do not believe in the death of the writer philosophy. Who knows a character better than the author of that character? They not only know who the character is, but has the fullest knowledge of everything they could've been. This is why I have to agree with Lucas. The mechanical suit, while not preventing him from becoming stronger, did prevent him from reaching the potential he could have if he was never in the suit and only George Lucas knows exactly what version of Vader that is. I really enjoyed the video and believe it was well thought out and explained clearly.

It seems that I had forgot to react about 5D Vader. The funniest thing is that it is true by looking at the lore, most especially a source material that goes by the name as “MedStar II: Jedi Healer". It should be stated that in that source material, Barriss Offee had achieved Oneness through artificial methods. Here's a quote that is relevant to your claim about 5D Vader.
*"In that moment she was transcendent, almost omnipotent. She was simultaneously in her body and out of it, able to see beyond three, even four dimensions.“*
    -MedStar II: Jedi Healer
Yep, you got it folks. The Force can go beyond four dimensions. MedStar II: Jedi Healer shows the true power of what Oneness could do to a Force Sensitive even though that said Oneness is achieved through artificial means and not through natural means. It should be noted that the quote is about the perspective Barriss Offee in a state of Oneness. Even if one reaches the state of Oneness, they aren't capable of compreheding the true nature of the Force.
It should be noted that despite reaching Oneness in which she stretched to infinity, she still couldn't comprehend the Force:
*"That amazing sense of familiarity, coupled with awe and wonder at the newness of it, the astonishing, held-breath feeling, the breadth and depth of it, stretching to infinity... She thought she was prepared for it, but she wasn't. It was just too ...big. She couldn't see how anyone could accept it, take it all in, process it. It wouldn't fit into her limited comprehension; it was like trying to confine the blazing, multifaceted glory of a firestone into a lat 2-D image. Her sense, corseted into only three dimensions, couldn't even begin to make sense of it."*
Despite reaching Oneness and even going beyond the fourth dimension, she is still infinitesimally insignificant compared to the Force itself. Goes to show, at the scale of what the Force is operating at. It should be noted that this is Oneness achieved by a mere Jedi Padawan and not a Jedi Knight or a Jedi Master. In other words. Furthermore, Starkiller had reached Oneness and yet Sidious still endures the power of Oneness harnessed by Starkiller. Then there's Abeloth's avatars being powerful enough to casually endure attacks from Ben Skywalker in a state of Oneness, reminder this is just her avatar and thus not at full strength.
*Ben opened himself to the Force completely, shielding himself from the Font of Power's darkness by drawing its energies through the power of all he loved in the galaxy, through his faith in the Jedi purpose and the promise of the future-through his confidence in Vestara and the sure knowledge that she would soon join him in the ranks of the Jedi Knights. The Force came pouring into Ben from all sides, irresistible and pure, a flood of light and purpose that no being in the galaxy could deny. He felt himself become the Force, a swirl of power and energy, and he focused all that he was on the approaching Keshiri, hitting her with a Force blast that would have knocked a frigate out of orbit.*
*The blast caught the avatar square in the chest and rocked her shoulders back at least a couple of centimeters.*
*She paused almost noticeably before she took her next step.*
*Ben staggered back, exhausted, and nearly fell before Vestara's hand clamped around his biceps.*
    - Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse
Yep, that's right. The best that a Skywalker on a state of Oneness to an avatar of Abeloth is to push her back about a couple of centimeters.
Essentially, 5D Vader is supported by the lore. If Sidious can survive Starkiller on Oneness and an avatar of Abeloth can survive Ben Skywalker on Oneness. I'd bet Vader can contend with Force Sensitives on a state of Oneness. So, yeah, 5D Vader.

Although I don’t remember where I heard it I swear I remember hearing George stating that Vader was indeed stronger than Anakin, but could never reach his full potential as a dark sider because of that little nugget of light inside of him.
Also if you want to talk about logistics Anakin was on the level of Mace Windu, and Dooku in terms of general skill of the blade and force power. And both Mace and Dooku were just a hairs breathe under their respective masters, but there was just enough of a gap that they wouldn’t win in a straight duel. Or at least that’s how I think it is considering just how powerful Mace and Dooku are and that Dooku describes controlling the dark side as if he’s becoming the axle of the universe. But Vader was 80% as powerful as the Emperor during Return of the Jedi and it’s pretty much confirmed that Palpatine got stronger between episode 3 and 6.
So based on logistics Anakin is about 90% as powerful as ROTS Sidious and Vader is 80% ROTJ Palpatine. And Vader is considered to be slightly stronger by both the numerous quotes that you found in the video and by that George quote that I don’t remember where it was. That seems to about add up if you ask me.

Anakin had the potential to be as twice powerful as the emperor, but in revenge of the sith he was raw strenght no wisdom, no experience enough, no control, he was far away from being that man, he was probably slight stronger than obi wan, but to me they were on par. but to be honest if he was on par with obi wan he was far from sidious and yoda power level. Now as vader he was like lucas said probably 20% below the emperors power, which is really strong and powerful and would destroy his revenge of the sith former self, being a better wiser and smarter duelist, and being an unstoppable force with the force. his suit hindered his potential to be probably the strongest force user in the star wars mythos, but as vader he was stronger than his younger former self and still one of the greatest sith of all time below palpatine tho.

Only if you throw out all stories that is not a mere Lucas interview, whom is incredibly inconsistent in his universes scaling ranging from Lucas having the New Hope novel portray Vader as superior to Ben, only for Lucas to claim that Ben being stronger is why Vader didn't use Telekinesis against him. Or saying that being old or a cripple made the original cast bad at lightsaber fighting in the phantom menace, only for the very next movie to portray Dooku, an old man, and Yoda, a crippled old alien, as the best duelists. Background info from what Lucas felt at the time doesn't matter compared to the dozens of stories that actually made it to pen and paper. Lucas has no knowledge of the EU, so as far as he's concerned, Sidious was static in power, but all the stories show otherwise, so Vader has the majority of power of DE Sidious. That's how you can rectify the consistent portrayal of Vader growing as a sith while keeping the limitation in check. And no, we're not ignoring content like Dark Empire which predates the prequels.

Lmfao no. Blaster bolts are lightspeed as stated many times in the Official Legends lore:
Like most energy weapons, turbolasers fire invisible energy beams at lightspeed. The 'bolt effect' seen when a turbolaser is fired is actually a glowing pulse that travels along the beam at less than lightspeed.
      Source: Fact File 47
Energy weapons fire invisible energy beams at lightspeed. The visible "bolt" is a glowing pulse that travels along the beam at less than lightspeed (...) The light given off by visible bolts depletes the overall energy content of a beam, limiting its range. Turbolasers gain a longer range by spinning the energy beam, which reduces waste glow.

Source: The New Jedi Order: Edge of Victory - Book I
Furthermore, there's the Official film novelization has Obi-Wan moving his lightsaber so fast (casually at that) that he literally surrounds himself in a shimmering blue shield deflecting every shot from semi-automatic to fully automatic blaster rifles from over, literally", ten thousand droids firing on him omnidirectionally at the same time.
"Only ten thousand to go. Give or take. An instant later the Force had him hurtling through a storm of blasterfire as every combat droid in the control center opened up on him at once. Letting go of intention, letting go of desire, letting go of life, Obi-Wan fixed his entire attention on a thread of the Force that pulled him toward Grievous: not where Grievous was, but where Grievous would be when Obi-Wan got there...
Leaping girder to girder, slashing cables on which to swing through swarms of ricocheting particle beams, blade flickering so fast it became a deflector shield that splattered blaster bolts in all directions, his presence alone became a weapon: as he spun and whirled through the control center's superstructure, the blasts of particle cannons from power droids destroyed equipment and shattered girders and unleashed a torrent of red-hot debris that crashed to the deck, crushing droids on all sides. By the time he flipped down through the air to land cat-footed on the deck once more, nearly half the droids between him and Grievous had been destroyed by their own not-so-friendly fire. He cut his way into the mob of remaining troops as smoothly as if it were no more than a canebrake near some sunlit beach; his steady pace left behind a trail of smoking slices of droid."
      Source: ROTS Novelization
It should be noted that the droids covered him in a dome as this passage suggested:
"Another gesture, and the droids in the ceiling hive came to life. They uncoiled from their sockets heads-downward, with a rising chorus of whirring and buzzing and clicking that thickened until Obi-Wan might as well have stumbled into a colony of Corellian raptor-wasps.
They began to drop free of the ceiling, first only a few, then many, like the opening drops of a summer cloudburst; finally they fell in a downpour that shook the stone-mounted durasteel of the deck and left Obi-Wan's ears ringing. Hundreds of them landed and rolled to standing; as many more stayed attached to the overhead hive, hanging upside down by their magnapeds, weapons trained so that Obi-Wan now stood at the focus of a dome of blasters"
      .Source: ROTS Novelization
The droids being suspended in the air shooting at him and others still stuck on mounts and pods on the roof and walls surrounding him like a dome. Obi-Wan being surrounded 3-dimensionally from all directions. The only way for anyone to survive this is that the character in question must be lightspeed or even faster.

Tbh I'd argue you don't even need to use death of the author to disprove the Vader downplay regarding Lucas's statement. The statement has always been a reference to Anakin's potential rather than his actual power, after losing the duel on mustafar he lost POTENTIAL, but that doesn't mean that Vader two decades later is weaker than his younger self.
To my knowledge there is absolutely nothing to suggest that episode 3 Anakin unironically would beat Vader at his peak, its merely a misunderstanding of statements from Lucas and the novels, talking about how an Anakin who never got injured would have been way stronger in the sense that he'd grow even further and faster than he did as a cyborg.

I firmly believe that Anakin brought the balance to the force and ultimately brought Obi-Wan and Luke to their full potential by sacrificing his own. His emotional flaws ultimately were vital to the story. Had he not fought Obi-Wan and lost, then he wouldn't know what it felt like to be abandoned and left to die and he wouldn't have broken while watching Luke be shocked to death. Had he won that fight or gotten away unscathed, the force would bend to the dark side.

I think Anakins form did help against Dooku as it does naturally counter Dookus form, however claiming that was the only reason would just be dumb. Or else any form 5 jedi would give Dooku a run for his money. Anakins power had to rival or surpass Dooku and his form was really just an aid in combat. Think that a spear could counter a sword with it's range and speed however a master swordsman would beat some random guy that picked up a spear
