    I’ve come across this topic after watching a video on Transvoicelessons - where they explained how resonance, vocal folds and false folds all combine to make a voice sound feminine. When I sing, I have a specific way of stretching myself to reach pitches just before flipping to falsetto. Listeners always described it as “delicate” or feminine - I never knew why. All these resources explain it. Thanks for sharing your method, very interesting! Season’s Greetings!

    I definitely agree that going back and forth with your voice, especially without training, could definitely lead to nodules forming. Most of my background with voice training has been self-taught for singing, and one commonality is teachers/professionals will talk about being careful not to strain your voice with sounds that are too far outside your range. That kind of vocal flexibility and strength has to be built up slowly, and kept up, just like any other muscle

    Also, I have a question if you wouldn’t mind: for a total beginner, would you suggest the sharp breath or the R method? I have a hard time producing a sound once I feel my throat tighten and I feel as though it’s not the right sound when something does come out because it doesn’t feel like when I normally speak. Thank you in advance!
    Also Happy Holidays! :D I hope you have a wonderful day and thank you for being so helpful

    • @joanz4811
      @joanz4811  Před 3 lety +1

      I would recommend that you do the "R" method. Just keep saying it to yourself with different amounts of air and tightness in your throat. Drawing it out will help. It's okay to sound lazy in your voice. You can use different expressions, test with flamboyancy.
      I hope this helps! :)

    Hi, first of all, thanks for making these videos to teach people! I'm sure many would benefit from it! As for me it's not super important this but I'd still like to. Right now I'm able to feminise my "R'"s and can say a few words like a girl like "hi" but as soon as I move into the words that don't have the beginning of an "ah" or "ur" in it, I lose the tightness in the throat and the sound. Am I supposed to try to maintain the same tightness from doing the "R'"s for everything I say? Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. This is tough!

    • @joanz4811
      @joanz4811  Před 3 lety

      I'm so happy to see that my tips are helpful! But yeah, you want to have similar tightness in your throat to the other sounds ^^ Also, keep in mind, training the voice will take plenty of time and dedication. It's like learning to speak all over again but eventually your voice will adjust :)

      Overall, recording yourself speak and playing it back helps loads. And having a favourite line to say when someone asks you to "do the thing!".
      My default has always been "Colonel, I'm trying to sneak around.." or sounding like gps.
      Natural speaking is challenging and just takes doing it consistently and getting used to saying things differently.
      I'll deffo bring up this subject in future vids

    Also, how do you practice this, read a book aloud?

    • @joanz4811
      @joanz4811  Před 3 lety +1

      That was me on a bad day, 6 am, wasn't able to sleep. But ye that's about 6 months. I started with funny phrases like "Colonal, I'm trying to sneak around" and doing a "Siri" voice. I did it for roughly an hour at minimum every day. Some days nonstop online with friends. I have people spot me and tell me when I slip up so I can learn to say it in a different way that's more convincing.
      It's good to practice with a friend if you get the chance. Otherwise, record yourself on your phone and listen back to your voice when you say casual conversation topics!
      I hope this helps!

    • @joanz4811
      @joanz4811  Před 3 lety +2

      I getcha there, but it tells me that you're still performing your base rather well. What you can do is add a bit more breath to remove the rasp if you prefer, but otherwise, I'd say keep a bit of rasp to your voice as it can still sound natural as long as you have pitch. :)

    • @joanz4811
      @joanz4811  Před 3 lety +1

      I understand what you mean. In that case, you may be using a lot of energy when talking, so perhaps try just throwing yourself back in a chair for example and relax, record your voice with your phone and casually talk about what you did during your day for example. You can try with low energy and work your way up to full-on Starbucks girl and listen back to it. Hopefully you'll hear a good spot in between to roll with and keep trying to mimic that tone! :)

    • @joanz4811
      @joanz4811  Před 2 lety +1

      Potentially. But it really comes down to technique. As long as what you're doing isn't hurting you. Like any form of vocal training though, you should give your voice a rest if you use it a lot.
      But if the ultimate goal is for you to make it permanent, using it consistently will gradually tighten your vocal chords over time, resulting in a higher pitch. Your vocal range can rise, but you may lose the ability to produce lower tones that you once could.
