Trans Voice: Raising the Pitch Safely

  • In this video I’ll show you how to find a comfortable higher part of your pitch range without fatigue or tension in the voice.
    Contrary to popular belief, pitch isn’t the most important part of your voice journey. However, if you change resonance significantly and leave pitch behind, you start to sound unnatural.
    And for some, raising pitch is a goal, which is valid.
    Many times when trying to speak with a higher voice, people just jump to the highest pitch they can do. But the voice quickly tires out and can sound strained.
    The pitch of your voice is controlled by muscles and like all muscles, if you want to lift heavy you have to train and build up strength over time.
    To speak with a higher pitch, you need to find a comfortable relaxed pitch to start from. Here's how:
    Say an agreeable Mm-Hm. The Hm of that Mm-Hm is the part of your upper range that’s easiest to safely start speaking from.
    Let the hmmm transition into actual words Mm-Hmmmm-Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday.
    That's WHAT pitch you can safely and comfortably start speaking in.
    If you want more info on HOW to expand your range even higher and find a brighter resonance to match, comment “pitch” below and I’ll reach out with resources and next steps!

    I'm female but I get mistaken as a man when I'm on calls or voice chat and I get bullied a lot because of it 😭. I hope this helps me.

      That's super frustrating. A lot of my videos will help you find a higher, brighter, lighter voice. There's even one for maintaining that voice on the phone if you search the channel!

    pitch i think is what ive been missing this whole time but im not sure because i get read as a girl on phone or in person but its that giant muscle in the back that if a girl wants to scream at the top of her lungs, im guessing literally squeezing the lungs at the "top"meanwhile the throat feels like it closing up if i go high which makes it hard to project as well i believe. so if i do pitch only, 30 minutes a day every day i can have a pitch change? lol and if so are there any more lessons

    • @undeadvoicelab
      @undeadvoicelab  Před 2 lety +1

      So pitch is definitely a good area to focus IF you've already mastered your resonance work. Here's a video about projecting the voice: czcams.com/video/NO0zjxq17W4/video.html

      if you haven’t, you might want to look into reducing vocal weight? there are some really great videos on this, the youtuber transvoicelessons (if you somehow haven’t seen anything from her yet) has some good videos about getting a “lighter” sound without buzzing. hope this helps

    Does this work in reverse for lowering pitch? i.e. holding the beginning lower part of the "mhm"?

    • @undeadvoicelab
      @undeadvoicelab  Před 2 lety +8

      the mm of the mm-hm is going to be where you’re currently speaking. To lower the pitch instead of an agreeable mm-hm, say a disagreeable mm-mm or uh-uh, the second sound should lower!
