I am actually italian and living abroad, and I came to like Starbucks.
The important part is you don't have to consider it coffee, but just a place where to get beverages, and some of them are coffee flavoured
Btw the italian starbucks have the exclusive coffees with olive oil, one of them is actually ok-ish and one is terribly awful
And Italian Venti cafe latte has one more shot of espresso than American ones. I - an American tourist ordered one with an extra shot like I always do- had the only jitter next to the Duomo

It's an American chain. Non American people just love American chains. Look at what's happened to Kuwait. They brought American fast food for the US soldiers stationed there, but it made Kuwait one of the top in the world for obesity. They studied why and the main reason is "Anything American is popular here." Go anywhere in the world and Americana is popular from movies/tv to clothes to food to words.

It just seems like a sin to order Starbucks in Rome! When I was in Italy, I couldn’t wait every morning to go to the Bar and order a cappuccino or an espresso or both or two of each. The Italians knew I was American and would laugh, but I didn’t care. It was so amazing. And the gelato, don’t get me started.❤

Hilarious! Former CEO of Starbucks, Howard Schultz has often said that his concept for Starbucks originated from his early trips to Italy and experiencing cafes there.
And he adapted to American taste....its OK. I like my coffee with 2 or 3 shots of ristretto & almond milk... but I drink this at home. When in Italy a simple doppio macchiatto is perfection

Years ago I was in Barnes & Noble Carle Place, NY and the Starbucks employees were handing out cinnamon dolce latte samples. First time I ever had it, and I was hooked for years. I'm over it now. Thanks for the memories!

This was awesome! I was in Rome last October and just after we landed we went for coffee. One of my travel companions tried to order a mocha. She got a cup of hot chocolate with a shot of espresso. I laughed almost as hard at that as I laughed during this video.

Okay guys, I looked it up because this also confused me. A Starbucks mocha apparently consists of: chocolate sauce in the bottom of the cup, an espresso on top of that, foamed milk on top of that until the cup is almost full, then fill the rest up with whip cream and sprinkles.

PS James Hoffman did a great review of the oleato coffees (coffees with olive oil) at Starbucks in Italy (he went to one in Milan) but has apparently since removed it as he doesn't want to support Starbucks when it's not supporting its workers (illegal union-busting and beyond). All revenue from that video has been donated to Starbucks Workers United.
