2020 Honda Odyssey Review: Don't Buy an SUV Until You've Driven This First

  • If you have to haul people and cargo, there's absolutely nothing out there more practical than a minivan, and the 2020 Honda Odyssey is an excellent example. Not only can it fit up to eight passengers comfortably, but it has a ton of family-friendly features and a powerful V6. In this Honda Odyssey review, Dan takes you through the minivan's specs, cargo capacity, infotainment system, storage cubbies, and even shows you some weird glitches he experienced with the infotainment screen and static coming from the stereo.

    I leased a 2003 Odyssey for 4 years, loved that one, been with Honda since 1989, only one issue during that time, an ABS sensor failed the first few months, that's it! I was going to purchase it but to fill the tank in 2006 was nearly $120 in Quebec, it was a crazy time. Grippes? The side doors, so slow and kept beeping so often. The V6 was perfect and so was the rest of that vehicle. Been driving CRVs since.

    I have a 2016 Odessey, works great, has amazing leg room for everyone, and drives nice. The only things I don't like are that it gets very poor mileage as a short-trip car, and the eco tech (aka using the third gear to save gas often) really makes the car feel slow when coasting at low MPH (14 or so). I average about 15 MPG going to and from the grocery store, picking up kids and the like. This one looks great, but shares alot of common elements with the 2016 model. I highly recommend this brand. (blue is also the best color)

      @@mattstewart4002 the Snow Mode will detect any slipping of the front wheels and adjust the torque output to maintain tracking. Odyssey Snow Mode does well on that. You’d also want to watch and learn about how to even better drive in snow by watching some “how to drive a FWD vehicle under snow” videos. Although FWD is not as great as AWD, FWD is still good at driving in snow, (much better than RWD) with some snow driving techniques.

      @@mattstewart4002 ps I am still using OEM tires and I can imagine if you switch to or have a second sets of dedicated snow tires from Bridgestone or Michelin which we are getting soon, it will handle snow even better. One thing it can’t do is to drive through very thick snow that is above its ground clearance. I tried and could feel that it could get stuck so I avoided to drive it like a JEEP.

    It's funny that we bought this van because of the pushbutton transmission - nobody offers a manual van anymore and you can engine brake with paddles in Sport mode - and the stiff suspension, but that's the things you didn't like the most.
    Hated the Toyota Sienna and turned around after less than a few blocks on TD. It feels softer and slightly higher ride so ends up feeling more like a pickup, plus the fake stick-shift protruding from the dash was just clunky. Different strokes, I guess!

    • @mikec3454
      @mikec3454 Před rokem

      “Fake stick shift”? Lol. No, that’s the shifter for the automatic transmission. You know, the same thing found in almost all other automatic transmission vehicles on the road.

      @imasspeons Před rokem

      @@mikec3454 I drove a manual for the first 15 years I had my license so it'll always be fake to me. However, there's also zero reason for it to be an aesthetically jarring stick on the dashboard, being as it's automatic. Even a column shifter would have been less intrusive.
      If it were on the floor, I wouldn't care since you barely notice it.

(it's ridiculous belt come on). 4. camera around view 360 degrees camera. (not 180-degreec) 5. interior mini refrigerator cool-box. 6. hybrid version and diesel version would be fantastic. The untold reason not to buy a Honda in the US; they bully their suppliers and small businesses (and in turn the suppliers' AMERICAN employees) Those who are "underneath them" in second and third tier suppliers lose wages and benefits while working harder to meet their demands. The company I work for completed a very large mold contract for Honda (a twin cavity rocker panel, definitely not a small or cheap mold) months ago and it was built completely to their specifications. After it was completed, they changed the specifications to a completely different mold machine, demanding changes that would require intensive modifications on our own dime, or another mold to be built. In this industry, you have a tight budget to work with and sometimes molds like this one can go out in the black, or at cost. I learned recently that Honda will not pay for this mold until their demands are met, putting my job at great risk while some have received pay cuts and reduction in insurance benefits are being made. Our co-pays are becoming very steep, and my son needs rejection medication and tests for his heart transplant. All during a recession and pandemic. In other words, this small business has heavy financial burden and is at great risk of not making it, forcing American families who work here into an out-of-luck situation. And worse, I have heard we are far from the first business Honda has done this to. I have never seen any customer anywhere in my life lack honor and integrity on the scale that Honda does.
    You meet the nicest people on a Honda. Unfortunately some real jerks design and build them.
    If you want to help American families, don't buy from Honda and let them know why.
