2020 Toyota Sienna vs 2020 Honda Odyssey vs 2020 Chrysler Pacifica

  • Once again, the minivans duke it out for all the glory of the 2020 model year. The reigning champ, the 2020 Toyota Sienna XLE takes on the likes of the 2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L and the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L. This year, the Dodge Grand Caravan is no longer in production, as FCA products are consolidated. The segment in general is facing increasing pressure from booming SUV sales, but these three are not to be outdone in the family-hauling business. So which is going to be the best minivan for 2020? Watch on to find out.
I evaluate the vans in seven different categories, with a rating from one to ten in those categories.
    They are as follows:
    1. Value (Price and features of each vehicle)
    2. Safety (Both active safety features and passive IIHS results)
    3. Power-train and performance (Engine, transmission, 0-60 time)
    4. Fuel Economy (EPA rated fuel efficiency)
    5. Reliability (Rated by Consumer Reports)
    6. Styling (How each car looks, from my point of view)
    7. Functionality (How well the car performs intended function)

I have the same year Odyssey, 2013, less the 70000 miles. I'm ready to sell it for 2 reasons. First reason that plays big role on it, the horsepower, only 248, it feels it takes a lot of effort to go up the hill, especially when i'm in some interstate highway. I feels like i also blow the engine if I step heavier on the gas paddle, and it down shift sometimes. Also the pick up always takes 2 to 3 seconds, it sometimes doesn't give confidence to change lane in some situations.
Second reason is the wind noise. It makes the drive not too enjoyable sometime, especially if I have to talk on the bluetooth, not the car's bluetooth, I mean to my earphone.

It doesn’t matter how much it has to offer when it’s life is still shorter. It’s a good rental car but not a good car to own unless you want to spend a lot of money on it. The car looks alright but again none of that surface stuff matters when it’s shit on reliability . Looks are subjective, features are as well. In the end all that matters is how much life can you get out of it and this car simply does not hold up on the reliability column and makes it the worst van to own out of the three.

We had an 88 Dodge Caravan for 15 years and 160K miles. It had some minor electrical issues and trim issues. But the fact that it stayed with us for so long says alot. We also had a 94 Voyager with 112K miles which my dad used as a work van. Of course, we took care of them. What I took away from growing up with that Caravan and Voyager is that they are durable vehicles when taken care of. The problem is, if I made a survey of thousands of car owners in America, I think 70% of them don't maintain their cars as they should. Toyotas tend to be built with these people in mind and hold out longer than the rest. But I can't imagine more than 30% of Americans properly bother maintaining their cars. And for this reason, I don't buy pre-owned vehicles unless I know its full history.

I have a 2005 Sienna. There are two bad things about it. The first is that the cruise control is very finicky and often doesn't set. This was a problem on multiple Toyota models. The second bad thing (which was also common on multiple Toyota models) is the tendency of the dash to melt, crack, and get very sticky from the sun. Mine just started doing this about two years ago, just after Toyota quit replacing defective dashes for free.

I was able to get a 2020 Chrysler Touring L that have similar safety measures as Honda, have eight seaters as a Toyota, got 15 cup holders, and more than I can ask for.

Ok you want to know why the Sienna looks and it is pretty much the same for ten yrs? Duh, it doesn't brake... ever. Just like a Camry, Corolla and Lexus.
Also I find the Honda Odyssey just hideous, the back is so weird looking. I test drove all these vans and I will tell you right now that Pacifica was just way better ride... no comparison.
Also two other factors that I thought were not consider here... Pacific has a hybrid version and Sienna has AWD... so comparing all these models without bringing the game changers only benefits the Odyssey because when you take the best model of all, those deal breakers will be in the equation and Odyssey has nothing to bring of that magnitude. Then there is the big elephant in the room... When you bring all those the Odyssey is way more expensive and for what? More cup holders?
If the infotainment in the Sienna bothers you just buy a $500 10" touchscreen infotainment in eBay and then you just killed that issue. However the Sienna will be the last van you buy... you cant say that about the other two...
