  • We're still having to repair rust on the Datsun 280z! It never ends! Today we have to fix the area near the front left hood hinge. We'll be using a pre-fabricated panel from Klassic Fab again as well as a custom fabbed panel to make this repair. One step closer to starting the 2JZ swap!

    water could possibly get in the frame from the holes for the plastic vents in the front, which carries air to vents in the passenger compartment.

    Looks like you are repairing it the correct way. If you are going to fix such rusted vehicles, you have to do it right. Other wise what's the use of trying to refurbish it. And you are doing it right... Thumbs Up!

      For sure! I'd rather spend more time doing it to the best of my abilties.

    I would just use a belt sander to burn through those spot welds use a 60 grit belt.

    Water gets in there from the fresh air ducts. That's what feeds air from the front of the car to inside the cabin.

      Well I thought I remembered reading about something like that but I couldn't find it right away. I'll check again.

      Reckon a weep hole at the lowest spot of the duct may have help with water drainage...just my humblest opinion

      @BLOKgarage  Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah that's probably not a bad idea. I'm out in the garage today and I honestly can't find where that water might have been coming in.

    I'm new but I'm enjoying your metal repairs. How about a pic of the pup? I have 2 Ford Galaxies also a Pitbull and a Boxer.

    My 280 had the exact same rust. It got in through the cowl and it's supposed to drain out the hole in the front of the frame rail but the factory overapplied sealant along the seam and the drain was clogged.

    • @BLOKgarage
      @BLOKgarage  Před 4 měsíci

      Where does it get in there from the cowl? I looked around and couldn't figure it out.

    You will find on almost every car out there that the driver side is always having more rust issues than the passenger side. Simply because oncoming traffic and wet weather splashes the hell out of the car

    • @BLOKgarage
      @BLOKgarage  Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah that definitely makes sense.

    • @ZachSmith-gm4sq
      @ZachSmith-gm4sq Před 4 měsíci

      Weird, heard the same thing about vehicles and curbside rust. See rust on the passenger side more because of the road being crowned and all the water/salt and holes are usually on the curbside of the road.

    Are you pumping fluid film in the cavities to prevent rust?

      I plan on using Eastwood interior frame coating inside everywhere.
