Brian, I just finished painting my corvette hood and front bumper. I watched so many of your videos about B/C Clearcoat prep. and how to achieve a great result, well it payed off, it came out fantastic. I followed everything you said to do and bought the right spray gun you recommenced off your store. Oh, I did this in my garage and I'm so glad I took the time to leran from you. Thank you so much you're a great teacher in both your professions.
Awesome!!!! Ty. Glad it worked
You have a good helper and future painter there.
That's where it starts! I started working for my dad on weekends when I turned eight. Been there ever since.
Attention BB welding trolls; ATTACK!🤣🤣. Brian must have a deleter on retainer. When I show a weld that doesn’t look like stacked pesos, I get 40 hundred trolls😉😉🤣
Love your body shop helper. Good to see see your a Family Man love it
Great work and great to see your young son helping ❤
Great video! I'm a terrible welder but I can make two pieces of metal stick together. The old saying I abide by is "a grinder and paint make me the welder I ain't!".
I see you have some highly competent help there from your trainee! What a heart warming project.
This is by far the best DIY example of panel refinishing, thank you SO much. 5 Stars!!
Wow, thank you!
Lil man want that spreader😊
A lot of useful information as always Brian, great Job 👍🏽
Love how your son is around you watching you work, I hope he likes what you do and hopefully see him learn from a great teacher.
Hi! Yes. He starting to enjoy being with dad in the garage. Ty for your comment n good to hear from you
Great video! Nice helper you have there! Word of caution on grinding welds. You may get a nice weld with little or no warping and ruin it by leaning too hard on your sanding disc and building too much heat. Go slowly and keep checking how hot the panel is getting. Ask me how I know!!!!
I've used the metal overheating to my advantage a few times too but yeah the metal heating up can definitely be a bad thing
Brian has been hitting the gym 💪
15 more pounds to go!
The best of the bests 👍
You helped me a lot to improve im following you from a country of North Africa and the things that you giving here for free no one will tell them to you here thank you so so so much for helping me to improve just from watching your videos
Thank you so much for this video I really appreciate seeing the do it yourselfer videos you show a not perfect weld and how to clean it properly thank you so much 😊
Found your channel a couple of years ago when I was researching on how to paint my truck, for my first time painting HVLP I was very pleased with my results thanks to your tips! I still come back to your channel because I enjoy your content and it gives me more information to put in my toolbox whenever I find the next project I can use them on.
Thank you for being a longtime viewer of the channel!
Really happy with this project again thank you from a do it yourselfer wow very happy
The tip about using the Fast Etch is an excellent idea. I've always gone over any weld seams with polyester resin and some cabosil mixture to seal them before epoxy primer. pretty much the same idea as putting the short strand filler. Might be overkill but it was something I learned eons ago and have always done.
Nice job, your repair turned out spectacular as always. You're a very knowledgeable and skilled body and paint man
Great point!
Good video Brian!
That came out pretty good, thanks for the video
Great job as usual 👍
Very well explained video!
Brian, can you do a price comparison between shop repair and this "DIY" style repair?
Perfect timing I'm doing the same to my truck right now, awesome job! Thanks! I need to get a shirt!
Hi Brian great work on all this 🤩😮
Good video, nice repair.
brilliant teaching
Well done brother
Great timely video Brian, about to put my e46 convertible back on the road and needs a few rust patches sorted ❤
Glad to see you back to the DYI garage paint and body. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!!
I understand you do these in your garage, but why dont you use any ir lights?those 2k cans are longer to dry and arent as hard if the weather is difficult.great vid!
I was recently quoted 1,300 dollars to have a bumper cover and one fender painted to OEM color no installation or prep and parts are both brand new oem. Does this sound right? I do allot with Cerakote so I have a decent spray set up I just needed a new spray gun so I ordered everything from eastwood for 550 and a gun from amazon and figured I would just do it myself
Not a criticism…. Your work looks very good…. Your choices of materials is a real eye opener…
Good information......thanks.
Nice job💪💪
Damn came out nice. I do some drive way body repairs my self but im not as good as this video was
Thanks Man. Even if thats not perfect its 6587 times better than it was. and thats not bad at all. Not everyone can drop 10k on a 20 year old DD.
Great video for DIY.
Thank you! Cheers!
Another great masterclass in painting and body filler etc. So much fab teaching. I applaud the use of the cut panel from the full piece but yeah the welding could be better. Still, it's not the metalwork than brought me here and the finish looks really great. Many thanks. There's loads for me to implement when I get the steel work of my project vehicle ready for these stages.
Thanks!
Thank you! I would love to learn to weld as well
Great video! I had to replace the hood and a fender on my old Jag due to a deer. The car is beige tan color and my used replacement panels were black, severely burned 30 years old black paint and clear coat. I finally got the panels nice with high build primer, but I had difficulty with the coverage of Dupli-Color paint. In fact, it took me 11 spray cans to get good coverage on the hood and fender. But, I got it and the covered it with 2K Spray-Max clear coat and it looks very good for a DIY job!
Might have been more cost effective if you had got a hold of a sprayer and compressor with the base, top and clear in cans
@@mikep509 Oh yes, for sure! But, I wanted to try to do it by myself. At 22$ Canadian per Dupli-Color can and 45$ Canadian per 2K clear coat cans, it was expensive. Lots of square foots in this hood!
@@alexandrecouture2462 ... yeah it's pricey with rattle cans.. I'm in canada too, I have borrowed a 16 gallon compressor and picked up a $130 paint sprayer on sale at Canadian tire for $50... I have a rear side door, front left fender and a spot on the roof near the windshield to fix/paint ... paint , primer, and clearcoat cost me $300 in cans... I just need time (and good weather lol) to work.on it... should take a day or so.... dialing in the sprayer is needed, and also for covering a bigger area like a roof, rattle cans are very difficult to use, so a sprayer was the way to go... 2009 toyota corolla, 150k km on the drive train... its in great shape except for a few corrosion spots... that im attempting to fix... bodyshops are quoting a fortune for this job if I was to go that route...
Thank you for making a video on something I’m doing I like your other ones but this is more of what I’m running into on my 91 Chevy truck and my 94 Chevy 4x4 can you teach us some stuff dealing with fiber glass beds like my step side beds I have I’m working on four cracks this week in the fiberglass thanks brother
Not too bad of a weekend project for a couple hundred in paint plus some sandpaper. Thanks for the video.
I would've liked to see the welding process also. Good job! Learning from here.
Brian, if you get a vehicle that has very bad sun spots with a little rust on the hood please show a DIY Because I love watching your videos you are the most informative and the best videos
Hey, i can't find a video on this subject. But I would love it, if not others as well, that you or someone would make a video explaining the different properties of the masking tapes and their functions.
There are so many types I feel, and as a novice, I am unsure if I really understand the differences between the types?
An old timer at local paint supply store said the particles are different shapes between blocking sandpaper and disc sandpaper. The block sandpaper has a more pointed shape and disc has more rounded at same grit
Great video as always. I plan on doing a similar project removing bubbled paint, patching/filling and repainting some rusted roof gutters on my Jeep. Any suggestions on what type of paint gun I can get that is affordable and gets the job done spraying all four of those products? Thanks!
Hi Brian. Great tutorial as always. Folks might not realize what is involved in getting a quality repair. Nice to see your little apprentice. Hope your summer is going well. Enjoy your weekend with your beautiful family.
Jim, as always, your comments always come through and brighten up my day. Thank you so much for watching the channel always.
That is a very nice job! I also want to do this on my car, I have a few rust spots that need fixing. What do you do with the rest of the can that still has some 2k clear coat or primer in it? Because I'm guessing it's going to harden in a day or so in the can.
Brian: "These are not perfect welds"
Your friend obviously hasn't been watching a lot of CZcams how to weld videos 😂. Looks like he used the welder on the wrong polarity.
Truck looks really good man, you are looking slim!
Thank you, this comment means a lot to me because I’ve been working my butt off to get down again. I still have some more to go, but I’m feeling much better, thank you again.
what grit to sand plastic for paint to bind ? should i be using adhesion promoter as well ?
Hi Coach, Remember me my name is Alice.! Remember, my mom, ms Kontos? It’s me!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you’re having a good summer.❤
Hope you’re enjoying your summer! We will see you guys soon again!

Great instructional video for professional results. My only concern is the cost of this repair, if I am just a week end warrior and trying to fix my daily driver the cost of all this repair is crazy expensive. Patch panel, welder, PPE for that, and supplies, short strand body filler, Bondo, glaze putty, primers, sand paper, hardener, etc. etc. how many types of primers? etch, high build, epoxy, guide coat .... holy Toledo I might as well pay a body shop to do it IMHO.
Yup! I mention this in my closing remarks. Very true
Hi brian ive been watching all your videos on painting at home, and was wondering if you recommend single stage paint or base and clear coat for a car thats going to be parked outside? Looking to repaint my 08’ civic si with peeling clear coat.
Its best to protect the internal cavity too by drilling two small holes in the backside of the inner panel and spraying anti rust protection inside then fitting grommets to finish the job off,,,, just thought I’d mention it
Hi. Ty. Yes watch the end of the video and you will see this done
Sorry it was my impatience to pass a comment about the cavity protection,,,,
Off topic question: I love the paint side of the industry but don’t particularly have an interest in the actual body/repair side. Is it possible/reasonable to become successful in paint without knowing body?
Is that a harbor freight welder? I've been debating on getting one
Only thing I can say is you should be using a longer block. But as long as it looks straight in the end I guess it doesn't matter
Hi
i have been thinking about getting that milwaukee grinder, but then im also looking for a bigger compressor(195L / min) to be able to paint, so should i just go with a bigger compressor and get the grinding tools for it? the milwaukee is batterydriven so it has just some amount of life in it compared to a airdriven one.
noticed when you put the clearcoat on, you didnt go all the way to the back of the fender, like you were dividing the panel into two parts, how come, you could have easily went arount the corner of the back.
It dies out when it’s over powered. Its annoying but its good for small stuff
I just have a question it's not about this video but I searched to see if you had done a show on diy"car paint" like from AutoZone(Dupont paint shop)or a truck, tractor and implement paint from rural King? I used the Majic diamond hard truck, tractor and implement paint(the blue can)and thought it was really good for being cheap. However now they don't have it here so I'm gonna try the Dupont paint shop paint from AutoZone along with the clear coat. Was curious if you have ever used any of it and if I should use a hardener with the clear coat(it says not necessary)I would think it would make it more durable. Any tips if you have used it please
Is that flat rate speed
Can i use regular black spray can as a guide coat?
I mention this in the video
You do something with other side of weld?
You watch the whole video?
i like to use fiberglass too especially on rust because well it can't rust if its fiberglass hehee just make sure to PREP PREP PREP the metal VERY well 95% of body work is preparing the surface to be repaired. you can do everything else right but if you don't prep PROPERLy first you're up shits creek lol AWESOME VIDEO AS ALWAYS ! PEACE
What is that body filler mixing panel thingy? Need that
Its in the description
@@PaintSociety what's it called?
Nevermind I'm a idiot lol
Damn bro didn't even practice before welding that 😅.He could have tested the settings on the welder for better welds as he clearly had the material...
9:30 a young auto body worker has appeared! 😉
Unless this was treated with a zinc weld through primer and coated on the inside, this will rust out again.
It was. Did you watch the whole video
@@PaintSociety if I watched that part I would not have posed the question, good stuff,
@@Tacman556 Stop the video at 3:31 and read the label on Eastwood Fast Etch (or you can google this product). It says "Leaves Zinc Phosphate Coating", I think Brian is referring to that.

I seen you had burn thrus down to metal from sanding the fiber Glass filler. You then put the body filler over the bare metal. Won't that rust eventually? The hardners contain water. Which is not the best idea to put on metal surfaces.
The filler is meant to go over metal. Still epoxy is the best process.
@@PaintSociety thanks for clarifying. It should be fine but never know. Ive done that before on my csr and its still holding out 4 months later. I learned the hardeners contain water recently so it kinda scared me if im gonna have to redo it eventually . Been watching you for awhile I don't miss a video haha. Love your work.
Pin holes come from your mixing ! You have to pull long and thin as you mix on the board . You add air by bad process. .
Thanks for the tips!
Those 2k products should be available in small cans for DYI projects.
What a waste of money and not good to put all that waste in the landfill.
There was rust stains in welds already. Its like cancer it wont be long till that rust comes through.
Shoot me your email and I will send you a message when that happens so you feel better.
So you didn't do anything to prevent it rusting through, from the welds on the backside? 🤦♀️
Tell me you didn’t watch the video without telling me you didn’t watch the full video
Crickets
I was taught to sand on a 45 degree angle to keep the upper-lower curved contour….
Your young apprentice seems very interested….. 😎
