I wonder how many times a customer gets their car back and they get to see the body clear of all bondo, rust & crap and they think "man I have really bitten off much more than I can chew, what do I do now ?" !!!
These cars where not safe new, god knows what structural integrity it has now.
Not any worse than the vega or the pinto.@@robertfairburn9979
I'd say that it's a candidate for chopping up and selling of the good(ish) panels, in this case.
They were fun to drive though.
I wonder if some punter has ever flipped out on him, like "WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY CAR!!??"...lol 😄
My mechanics has a few videos restoring one of these. The man is genius and fixes most of the factory defects.
There is no one better. 🍻
I was gonna say, "Imagine it being my mechanics, Datsun." He is the god of restoration
@@Savagegunner217 Right?!
Came here to say this. He hasn't uploaded in three months, hope he is OK - prob just working hard on the car and the next video. That dipping pool looks like a handy place to dispose of a body ☠
@@hubristicmystic he said on his Instagram that a new video is coming soon. He’s just so dedicated to perfection. I’m sure that goes with the editing process and everything too.
It was the first car I owned in my youth. What beautiful memories and I hope it will be well restored. This car is really amazing
Me too - I love seeing them restored and wish I could have afforded to do that with mine.
Who could have imagined we’d ever be dipping what was considered a throw away car in the 80’s. Nice work
Like lots of cars of the era, they’re now popular.
Id kill to have 240Z 90's pricing on them nowadays, probably like 200$ for one with no rust or body damage
I paid $800 for my Z a few years ago. It's true, few people cared about them then
They rusted out so you did literally throw them away.
Не совсем понимаю во что окунаю авто , подскажите пожалуйста
I am truly surprised that ANY of thst vehicle came out of the acid bath lol. I absolutely love the work that you put in to begin the restoration process... and the channel itself. Thank you for anotjer wonderful video.🙏💜
Was thinking the same myself, it seemed like 70's Datsun's came from the factory pre-rusted, and it was downhill from there.
Just met the owner of this car last night! Highly recommend you for chemical dipping, great work
Did you offer your condolences? Ooofff
You always bring back some memories with the cars that yo show on here. 👍💯
Wow, cool car, it needs a lot of work, but I'd love to see that restored. I was a detailer at a Datsun dealer before Nissan took them over, I got to drive these cars brand new right off the car carriers, the seats still had plastic wrap on them, I had to cut the plastic off and wash and detail them, and they made me go with the customer on a new test drive! Great video, thanks ! Brings back memories.
the channel My Mechanics is restoring one, and he's very detailed.
Before Nissan took them over?? Datsuns 240zs are Nissans. They always were. Look at the manufacturer plate on the driver's side door post. Datsun is just the name of the product.
Great demo! Thx.
I loved these cars in the early 1980's I worked on these repainting them, sad to say they were noted for bad rust. They were mechanically very reliable and drove very well but, the Bristish weather made quick work of them and they always kept me busy in the paint shop.
Great car, love to see it when its finished, as you say a lot to do. Off to do some work after a destress watching👍 wh are they so relaxing to watch😄
Another great video! Thank you 👍. They could easily be longer.
I like to enjoy you dipping the cars i never miss one great job
Really excellent work!
It's really lovely to see it revealed. What needs to be done. Have a great 2024.
Great video and brilliant work gave the restoration people a decent canvas to work from. There must be some horror stories of cars with very little left to work from. ❤
Beautiful job on a beautiful car. Your vids are more relaxing than yoga sessions or a visit at the psychologist. Thank you! 💯👍🫶
This is better than watching pimple popping!
Hahaha... they were probably wondering for years what that noise is they keep hearing 🤔🤨
considering how much time is taken up removing all the paint and bondo this service is fantastic , sold me , when you start at a fresh point and can see the extent of the rust you can tell exactly what you need to do
Looks good 👍 you scored some tools too.
You should do a follow up video of the cars that you dipped and then show them after a full restoration pic. That would be pretty cool
Great video!
Extensive sheet metal work by an experienced body man and that'll be a nice ride. Suspenson upgrades and a RB25DET, excellent track day car.
Good.job. Nice job 😄😄👍👍👏👏👏
just found your chanel JESUS i am A FAN
Thank you!
That cowl damage is pretty unusual. Floorpans look typical. My '72 240Z was in similar condition.
I recall when they first came out. I dreamed of someday owning one
Beautiful job, my brother.
Thanks buddy! I appreciate that
I'd like to see a segment of cleaning out the vats at some point.
Man, that Koosh Ball is invincible! Like 30 years old, survives a chemical dip and still comes out intact.
Cars are such rust magnets!
thank you.
There's my 1/4 inch drive my grandson had no idea what happened to... LOL... I'm kinda surprised at how good of shape this is in... my buddy bought a '75 a few years back, and chicken wire had more metal in it than the floorpan. Under the carpet, on the drivers side, there was a plastic cafeteria tray for "support"... these are beautiful cars to drive, but jeezuz they rotted terrible.
this elderly lady needs some healing...but your beauty baths rejuvenated her quite well....this could be a gem in the making
Wow, so much work to do. I would be surprised to see this completed to a high standard.
If that was a 10mm socket, I'm the one that lost it. 😅
Aren't we al ?
I always wanted one
I'm a Datsun enthusiast, I've had z cars, my uncle worked at a Datsun/Peugeot dealer when I was a kid. Strangely, I prefer the B210/B310, Maxima's and 620/720 trucks. We got a new 1984 720 truck when I was little and I picked it out of the line of them. I currently own a 1979 B310( aka 210, no B) wagon. Little thing sat in a junkyard at least 10 years and a fresh can of gas and a hot battery and she's run ever since I got it home. There's a reason Datsuns were called Atomic cockroaches. Mechanically they are very tough. The new 1984 720 didn't make it ten years before the rust made it unsafe. They can rust real bad. Not every one but they were prone to it. My 79 wagon needs a little rocker work and I'm sure a few bolts will break but otherwise she ain't bad.
Can you tell me what kind of Nissan (Datsun) model Iran produces today? We have a lot of their cars in Central Asia, and they are new
same here, though i do have a Z ive always loved the 620s. I just picked one up recently and im hoping to build it into a track machine
Pretty cool. What happens to the toxic material that comes off the car?
Aprendí a conducir con los coches datsun les tengo un cariño especial a estos coches
I love watching your videos. Greetings from Ireland! Could you tell us what the chemicals are, how long they are dipped in for and what temperatures are involved. Just for the nerd CPA in me!
Great job and video! The Japanese didn’t have a decent protection and paint process until the 1990s.
How long do the acid baths take? Love this process btw!
What acid do you use for the acid bath? And what do you use for the neutralizing bath? Will appreciate very much the info.
I used to have a '75 280Z. Drove through a puddle and got my feet wet...inside the car. Notorious for rotted out floorboards and cracked dashes.
But it was FAST car!!
how do you prevent flash rusting on these once they are stripped and pressue washed?
Oh good , the rubber dolls back .😅😅 OH No Mr. BILL
Wow, a lot of work to do on that car 😮
I owned a 1980 280ZX 2+2 between 1984 and 1988 and loved it. The problem was I kept getting pulled over by plod to check my credentials because they couldn't beleive a 25 year old could own such a car. Wish I'd hung onto it it now.
dang thats a lot of rust. car better have some sentimental value
Do you guys also dip hardware or other pieces of a vehicle besides body panels/car/frame?
best place to do this before restore
That’s where my 10mm socket went
10mm reclaimed, good day
How do you clean your dipping cleaner tub after use
Can you tell what chemicals are used in these baths? and how much material (metal) is lost in this process?
I wish someone offered this service in my location!
Would have been worth every penny!
Media blasting was expensive and too took forever to blow out all the remaining media.
i have never quite understood why some paint remains after a dip. Its all factory primed n painted at same time under same environment. So why does some paint stick better than the rest?
I had a 77 280Z, if it was anything like my Z if you dip it there won’t be anything left. What a rust bucket.
Seen worse. This one got some weird rust spots, but overall front is in perfect condition :o
Do you have any dips of the doors? They have to just fall apart.
What is the rope made from?
what chemistry is used at each stage? / какая химия используется на каждом этапе?
I love these body Z cars 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
you should check out the one im building on my channel if you're a Z car guy!
They can replace the entire chassis! ;-)
Здравствуйте, хотелость бы узнать какие реагенты используют, что так хорошо отелает старая краска??????
What is the removal solution?
Was that the mysterious disappearing 10 mm socket?😂😂😂
My gosh, a lot of work, in my opinion too much to do with rust repairs. How do you keep the metal from rust flashing over as the metal get etched by the acid. Thanks for the video
1:15 That's acid?
Nevermind is acid 🤗
The only problem is now all the protective coating in all the lap joints and behind the panels (rocker panels/ quarterpanels) has come off and will eventually rust if not repainted.
It looks like it has spent a good portion of its life either on the coast or in the rust belt area. That is going to be a ton of metal replacement. They are a cool car though and not seen too much anymore sadly. That is one of the beefiest trans. tunnels i have ever seen though.
Restored a 70 240z and a 71 240z. One required rust repair, the other was darn near a resurrection from all the rot. I spent the whole restoration budget on rust repair...had to dump it for a song after I never recovered financially. Learned my lesson with that one: NEVER AGAIN. Rust repair is never finished on these old Z cars, they rot just from being driven in the rain. This one needs thousands in metal repair...like $10-15k, unless the owner is going to do it themselves. The floor, cowl, lower doglegs, and hatch rot would ordinarily be enough to doom it.
i would like to see a 77 or 78 firebird done
I miss my old 240Z great little sports car should never have sold it Didn’t even need too could have sat in the shed till now oh well regrets👍🇦🇺
What's this product for remove paint?
I'd really like to follow the builds for some of these cars. Do you ever post the builders links so we can follow them?
im in the process of building one over on my channel if youre interested!
@@LooseFab yes for sure!
How can I set it up to bring my car? What’s the name of the shop?
Класс работа профессиональная
Rust 💯😵
I had a 74 240z in 84, if you dipped it you would be lucky to get the roof skin as it was so rusty
Great job!whats the concentration of the chemicals in the tub? What prevents the body from flash rust after the baths?
The last step includes a rust inhibitor, it will give you a couple of days to get a primer on before it starts rusting.
@@TheStuffMade we don't have something like this here, is it acid based?
@@BeetleJuice1980 Not sure what the actual chemical composition is, but it's not an acid, perhaps it's based on dicyclohexylammonium nitrite. I believe it's available world wide. For this kind of application or blasting you'd usually use a water based rust inhibitor.
that's a toque pompom, not a toy! 🤣
Nice Dip
Bit of bog in that one
I am surprised there was any car left to pull out
Bu there is 😂😂
Amigo coloque legenda em Português Brasil e muito stre o carro pronto.
I want someone start to manufacture the datsun frames
I can't imagine the amount of work it will take to get all that rust damage restored. Someone must have deep pockets to bring this car back to life.
As much as I love seeing these old cars and these in particular brought back, whoever brings this one back is honestly a fool. That one is just too far gone to justify the insane amount of patching it is going to require. Especially when you consider they aren't exactly rare and in the south are fairly easy to get for a couple grand with minimal rust. I picked up an 82 as a resto project a couple of years ago for $800 with virtually no rust. Would have cost me probably $1500ish if it had an engine in it, but I had zero need ot the engine and just needed a body. Still point being, not expensive or hard to find.
@@OmegaGamingNetwork for $800? that is YEARS ago. Over here in Europe they are expensive, searched in US and found several cars for $30k or more?
Again I said a couple years ago and it was a body with no engine. That said I just checked marketplace and found several project cars anywhere from 1500-3000. Only place I see them running for insane amounts of money are sites like classic which is where people with lots of money and no desire for a project shop.
Почему не хочешь снять видео ролик куда утилизируешь отходы от производства
my mechanics jobs????
No, his was in much better shape to start with and he did the blasting himself. He didn't get it dipped.
Lucky the entire uni-frame didn’t completely disintegrate 😂
can we see one of these times what happens to the old dip solution, the stuff in it, and what happens to the waste water from power washig?
It would be a 10 mm socket and wrench.
Socket on the wrench is probably a 10-mil, because it's ALWAYS a 10-mil.
I wonder if AMD makes Z body panels?
I remember working on a 240z back in the 1980s lovely sweet running straight six, the interior was Datsun Cherry horrible plastic, opened the bonnet to find the old style steering box wasn't attached to anything, the lower chassis rail had long crumbled to red dust
I envied the guy in high school who had a brand new 280Z.
How much does it cost to dip a vehicle?
Omg theres a little man on the front!
