  • The Danish National was the topic of conversation since the EURO began, first for the horrific episode suffered by their best player, Christian Eriksen, then for their impressive run to the semifinal of the tournament. After almost 30 years of not being in a semifinal, and having lost Eriksen, what the heavens happened with Denmark?

Despite Denmark’s tragedy England still found it appropriate to 1, boo their national anthem. 2, dive like crazy resulting in a penalty, possibly costing Denmark a spot in the finals. And 3, point lasers in the eye of Schmeichel. Absolutely disgusting team.

Was just about to say that - I mean sure Denmark wasn't favorites for the tournament or anything like that, but simply based on their ranking going into the tournament quarters, or maybe even semi finals with an slightly above average run, would be about what you could expect, not accounting for all the drama that happened with Eriksen. So looking just at the results it was nothing special - but then you consider Denmark loosing to Finland, and still making it through the group in the last match against Russia with just 3 points, the Eriksen incident, and several "unknown" talents(at that stage at least) suddenly stepping up way above where you could expect, then you have the makings of a good story.

    Respect from a Croatian fan.
I well remember when we played Denmark before reaching the round of 16 where both teams scored 4 minutes into the match, I was late to watch it and I saw a livescore say Denmark scored and everyone cheered then I thought “is there so many Danish tourists here?” And then I saw Croatia scored hahahah but most memorably was Schmeikel saving a penalty in extra time like against Kane except he held it then it went to penalties and he saved 2 more and our keeper Subasic saved 3, two keepers saving 3 penalties each in one game heh what do you know, my heart was skipping beats when it happened.
Some fans mocked us saying we had such a lucky route but considering how Denmark was faced that early I don’t think so, you guys went without your star player after having a serious health crisis and fear of losing him and got your heads up, challenged Belgium and frankly played better than them, sensationally qualified against Russia, went through Czech Republic and smashed Wales and took England to extra time being this close to the final, if that doesn’t prove a strong mentality I sure as hell don’t know what does!

@@n.s.5278 You probably haven't seen any of Denmark's other matches outside of the Euros, we were up against a team that hadn't had a single goal gone in until Damsgaard's free-kick. Dolberg was tired so we put in our super sub, Poulsen who was our first choice in front of Dolberg but had to sit out the matches that DOlberg got in. Hjulmand tried to make it go to penalties which we would've had a bigger chance of winning so he focused on defence rather than attack. Without Hjulmand's tac-tics we would've lost 4-0 to England and 1-0 to Wales.

@@alfredhauchfox2073 counterfactuals are not analysis but speculation. Dolberg was tired and slow from the beginning. He should have been subbed with Poulsen earlier. Buy taking out Damsgaard when he was the sole goal scorer against Pickford was rash and ill advised. Why three simultaneous substitutions and overall so many substitutions that you run out of men in the extra time? They was but brilliant. Jensen was not strong either on the day. I'm not sure whether Cornelius was injured but you needed someone good on the ball. Denmark was incessantly throwing away possession. And Schmeichels long balls did not help. I was disappointed in the lack of game plan. Denmark could and should have beaten England.
