    Am I the only one who thought the sister in law genuinely didn't get the part and that pearl just assumed bc she's blonde and fit the description? Even if I'm wrong I think it's an interesting spin, she looked really confused when pearl kept insisting and it seemed to me like she just agreed and went along with it to try to save her own ass.

    • @vanessaatallent475
      @vanessaatallent475 Před rokem +16

      Yeah I agree - not for sure if she really got it or finally agreed she did to get away from Pearl. In the first film X, Pearl tells Howard that he knows she doesn’t like blondes & maybe the reason she doesn’t like blondes is she didn’t get the dance part because she wasn’t blonde.

      Sure, but still, most serial killers do tend to have a decent amount of past traumas. Doesn’t excuse the behaviors of course. But this type of treatment does work better in a sensationalistic slasher.

      It's not that black and white. Pearl's sociopathy is the result of an unanswerable mix of nature and nurture. Her mother's transfering of her own bitterness and loathing onto her daughter certainly does not make her mentally well-adjusted.

      I also believe this and I think her mom blames/hates her instead of the dad. Her mom is also frustrated she doesn’t have a husband but instead is a mother to her disabled husband and in X, Pearl is sex-deprived because her husband is afraid to have sex because of his heart.

    I liked X, excited to see Pearl. But Maxxxine is the one I'm most excited to see. Re: old people and sex, yes they have it. I used to be a paramedic and had an elderly couple in a nursing home. Deep 80s. The woman was being sexed to death. Her seinle husband would flip her over and he broke her lower back. She looked at me and said " is the baby OK?" aka in so much pain she thought she had a baby. I said " the baby is fine and healthy but now the doctor needs to check you to make sure you're OK" when we went to take her to thr ER the nurse told me to warn the nurses on the hospital floor to not leave him alone with her if he visits. Apparently he also has a habit of walking into other ladies rooms and giving them a pounding too. He was literally creeping on everyone. Old people can want sex past cognition. Love you guys!

      Poor little lady💧. Her horny old husband needed Pearl lol! I worked in a rural hospital and we had this one old man from the nursing home that was nicknamed “The Candy Man” because he would bribe the little old ladies into his room by giving them candy and was caught in some compromising situations lol! He never hurt any of his conquests but did have one lady that was bedridden and could not speak due to a stroke that was raped. It was so sad because she was so bruised with broken bones and so traumatized. She would start to shake & tremble when any male personal came into her room (finally just had female staff). I knew this sweet lady before she had her stroke and to this day I’m heartbroken what happened to her. It wasn’t another pt in the nursing home but a male staff member who got a slap on the wrist. If I could, I would feed him to an alligator.

And this is with the theater having a malfunction and the lights staying on throughout the entire film. That monologue was perfect, it felt so relatable, making me feel like uncomfortable that I can relate to a sociopath but also good to hear some of the things she says being said out loud.

  • @ianpaulcoleman8675
    @ianpaulcoleman8675 Před 9 měsíci +2

    The film is a technicolor nightmare.
    I’m my opinion Pearl is living in her head. The fantastical things that we as audience see is only what Pearl wants life to be. The rot of the pig symbolizes the rot that starts to become the fairytale Pearl believes/hopes will happen. The projectionist in my opinion is only part of Pearls imagination. Hence he projects what Pearl wants to see. Most likely the drugs she abuses mixed with mental illness causes this break. I believe when the father is introduced to the projectionist he sees nothing which only adds to his horror of Pearl. The killing of the projectionist was only after the reality of the night was processed by Pearl which caused anxiety and dread. Even after killing the projectionist the pig was not yet completely rotted. Finally when encouraged to say the words out loud by her sister in law Pearl no longer could keep the words safe in her mind. By arranging the corpses and setting the table the final stage showing the fairytale (the rotted pig) Pearl wanted was now only the dark aftermath of a disturbed mind. She no longer could see the difference in a nightmare and a fantasy but Pearl made the best of what she had.
    Scenes like the fire and her mother was a tribute to the Wizard of OZ. Pearl felt her Mother was the witch and by throwing the water paid tribute to the film. The reel and the cornfield was also a nod to the tornado in the Wizard of OZ. I utterly loved Pearl and X so I definitely thought a lot about the characters. I’m sure I forgot something but lol it’s almost 3am here so..

    LUV ALL REVIEWS! Glad I’m not the only one to admire Howard’s penmanship and be reminded of the Wicked Witch from Wizard or Oz lol! In the film X, Pearl reminds Howard he should know she doesn’t like blondes and wonder if her dislike of blondes originates from her sister-in-law getting the dance part because she was “young, blonde, all-American” and had the X Factor that Pearl did not? The actress (Emma Jenkins-Purro) who played the sister-in-law reminded me of Cameron Diaz (her eyes and nose) and Mia Goth definitely a young Shelley Duvall.

    i liked the movie and give it a higher raiting. I also have a different take on it. I think the relationship with the aligator is established with the scene of her feeding it the duck. She's obviously been doing that for some time as the alligator knew to come to her. so that's already established.
    I'm okay with there not being much exlplanation for her psycopathy. Some people just have that and there's not always a direct explanation. I think the strictness of her mother and the oppressive life she's living is enough and I'm totally fine with there NOT being yet another story of a girl/woman being sexually assaulted.
    I don't think she's 'obsessed' with sex. She definitely has an active sex drive, but she's still a teenager if i remember. She's 18? Teenagers are horny. She also lives in a time where women are not allowed to be sexual. Sex back then (and i could argue even now) was about men's pleasure and women are just there to take it. For centuries women's sexual behaviour had been put down to her being 'hysterical' and sometimes a hysterectomy was done (hence the name) to calm her down. So this added oppression to Pearl's already existing psychosis is a wild combination.
    I also thought (and this might be a stretch) that her sexual behaviour and psychotic behaviour was a sort of tongue in cheek nod to attitudes back then that for women horny = mental problem.
    Mia Goth was incredible in this and I''m really excited where she'll take her career because i was so impressed with her performance.
    The movie is weird and different and it felt fresh

    I just felt like it was missing something... Maybe a nightmare of a tornado would’ve been cool. I’ve had one and it was honestly terrifying, plus goes with the wizard of oz theme. There could’ve been a “wicked witch” encounter where she makes a deal to become famous. Maybe pearl tries to sacrifice a stranger by sneaking into his house, but wakes him up and has to escape. There was almost no suspense or jump scares.

    She's one of the weirdest actresses I've seen. And, by that I mean different, not in a bad way kinda. But, her spirit is questionable lol. Anyways, from suspiria to X. She plays in some crazy stuff lol. I thought the movie was strange, and it sucked. But, I did appreciate the messages I personally received from it. One being; how important and holy patience is. If pearl's impulsive behind would've just been patient within herself. Things would've turned around for her, changed and got better. In life sometimes we think what we don't have in the present means it won't come in the future. Like! That's stupidity. We have to wait and see, and give things time for a realistic outcome. Also, gratefulness. Just like her mom said you have to make due with what you have. It's not always about having more and more in life. She didn't realize that until she killed everyone, and failed her audition. If only she had that mentality in the first place. None of those bad things would've happened. 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️ Oh! Pearl! 😂😂

      I don’t think that was the message at all but I’m glad you were able to turn it into something positive, lol. The idea is that the mother was right: Pearl isn’t a star at all, just a delusional sociopath with dreams too big for her talent. Sadly, Pearl didn’t realize anything because she’s still killing people in the sequel X. This movie is well acted, well shot, well edited, and overall well done, but it’s not for everyone.

      @alittlebitofjessica Idc what the general message was for you to be telling me; you don't think that's what the movie was about. You're one person out of a billion. I created a lesson according to what naturally came to my mind. I'm no one's sheep. I'm a person too. And, I'll create my own art, from art already created. We'll see the same things differently at times, as we know. And, all that matters is that I took something meaningful from it. I'm not just watching things to be entertained. And, the message I took from it is way more meaningful and in depth. Than it being about pearl being a psychopath, who needs to hide out from the world. Cause she's too weird, and crazy to be accepted. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️
      I see the difference in our frequencies according to what you got from it versus me. If that's the case the movie is dumber than dumb. And only had to do with a made up characters; character. Wow! So deep & important. Maybe all the Jeffrey Dahmer's should watch to enlighten them to keep their crazy asses away from everyone. 😒😂 A simpleminded meaning, as well as way to perceive it. Like! That's common sense, she was crazy and delusional. Anyone in their right mind would feel like the mom did watching. Btw you could've kept your gladness. Cause I need know ones approval, especially not a strangers. My view point can also be a correlation to your perception. So keep striving for high intelligence you may be almost there. Hehe! 👍🏼

    X is a better movie. It is more humourous and does not take itself too seriously.

    This film wasn’t that bad but X was horrifically bad. I don’t know, Maybe A24 films just are not for me because X was possibly the worst horror film I’ve ever seen In my entire life. The director should be honored I even gave this prequel a chance. Pathetic plot that went nowhere

    I’ll admit that I wish you didn’t bring X into this. I haven’t seen X yet, I’d like to know how you feel about the movie as a stand alone movie.

    Walked out of this right at the point where she hooks up with the projectionist... I admired the retro style but couldn't find myself feeling any tension or being engaged with the characters. The main actress does a great job, though.
