This is a great interview! Very rarely do you get an extended interview with a jockey. Great to hear his love of what he does and that after all these years he still gets nervous! The plane crash was horrendous. Imagine thinking every day you could die from a six feet fall, and suddenly being in a plane crash!

I loved this interview. My dad was a jockey too, before WWII. He raced for George D Widener in Philadelphia. He’d be 109! He was always athletic! BTW, We are 100% Italian heritage too.

This is a good interview. I like Frankie. His devotion to his sport is admirable, but I do wonder if, when it's all said and done, he will miss the time he didn't spend with his family and friends. 4 days a year isn't too much to ask for that time. No one on their death bed says that they wish they'd spent more time at work. No kid or wife wishes he would spend more time away from them. The relationships are what matter in the end.
Frankie, did you ever know a scottish horseman named James Wood(s)? Born around 1920 and I believe, in later years, he was a groundskeeper on one of the queen's properties.

He butchered the race in every race he's raced in the Melbourne Cup. Plenty of more versatile jockeys who ride awesomely world wide. Ryan Moore is a lot better than Frankie. So is Zac Purton in Hong Kong or James Macdonald in Australia.

Horses in horse racing are babies, their bones are not fully developed which is why there are so many horse injuries in horse racing… sadly, when these beautiful majestic animals are no longer profitable for these people (and the owners of the horses), many end up in slaughterhouses.
