These kids are the reason Japan started Battle Royale
Battle Royale for Disturbing Breakdown!
Japanese Politician: “YOU KNOW WHAT FUCK IT TIME TO TEACH THESE YAKUZA BRATS A LESSON! TIME FOR THEM TO FIGHT TO THE DEATH!”
Battle Royale came out first.
It's also why a guy made the manga Brutal, or as I like to call it, Japanese Dexter
That movie was so good but the other ones suck ass the of fre
R.I.P. Akira Toriyama, millions around the world thank you for the childhood you gave us 🕊
Yeah he's Japanese.
I did my own little spirit bomb in honor of Toriyama 😅
Didn't know they made a movie. Randomly picked up this book at a used book store a few years ago. It was a page turner. Very clever twists.
Damn she went full John Kramer even at the end being like "just kidding" like him he never cared to truly get justice or to reform bad people. He just wanted revenge. Brilliant movie, simple amazing thank you for the awesome review spooky and rip Akirasan The King of The Underworld def has your own private planet waiting for you just like King Kai!
So a kid can kill another, and as long as they are under 14 years old, absolutely nothing will happen to them? Besides having a bad reputation I guess, which is pretty important in Asian countries I think, but still...
Here in Germany children under 14 can also not be charged with a crime. But with serious offenses like murder they will be taken from their parents and put into closed special facilities. So from what I found on google it seems that Japan passed a law in 2007 that made it possible to sent offenders as young as 11 to reformatory schools which means the movie is wrong or outdated.
Look what happened in the worst crime in Japanese history. They genuinely gave 4 rapists and murderers a slap on the wrist.
@@suespiria9574 the reformatory schools aren’t true punishments nor is there any data of successful rehabilitations.
@@alessandrajackson3768 Reformatory schools are basically prisons for children, a lot of countries in the west had those and thankfully got rid of them. And after the law in Japan passed, human rights organizations were very worried because those facilities are apparently led with strict military drill there. As with the no rehabilitation, I agree. People who went to similar places in West and East Germany are often still traumatized decades later. So yeah the "Reformatory" was always euphemistic. It was about punishing and breaking the children and adolescents.
@alessandrajackson3768 There is no real reform effort put into any sort of encampment, unless it is a serious addiction place.
this movie is incredible. Japan's submission for Best International Feature for the Academy Awards that year. Didn't make the cut.
What was the movie?
@@davidsheriff9274 he meant this movie was Japan's submission for academy awards the year this movie was released. it made the shortlist but wasn't nominated in the final cut
@@jborobia2056 Oh okay, thanks.
I actually read the book a few months ago with a group of friends and we eventually watched the movie together and it was amazing. If you haven't read the book yet, HIGHLY recommend you do if you liked the movie.
what is the book called?
same name as the movie
I started reading today, I loved the movie. It’s tough, but very good.
Good for Ms. Yukon. I would do the same. Omg James Bulger deserved better. John Venables got a new identity and still re-offended...
They were 10 years old and were locked up for 8 years. That is more than enough.
@suespiria9574 Maybe for Robert... He was given majority blame. Obviously, they were wrong. Venables was and is a monster. The ring leader, so to speak. Thompson isn't much better, but at least he never re-offended.
Yes that case was horrendous, I'm from that city where it happened so it was a story we grew up with to stay near your parents.
I've never been able to watch Child's Play/chucky because I was told they said that was an inspiration for the crime and I just couldn't get past that and see it as "just a film".
@oliversedgwick7236 I will say, if you watch Child's Play, don't worry. It is nothing like that. I do understand what you're saying though.
Read about the Leopold and Loeb murder,it reminds me a lot of the kids in this movie.
My guy always coming with the most random movies 😂
Good tho
This is actually considered one of the best Japanese movies. Not really random.
"movies I don't know are random"
look at these weebs defending this random ass story
You know what really messed me up recently that prepared me for this film? Incendies (2010)
Agreed, such a great underrated film! Incendies is brutal but SO well done, highly recommend it to anyone who can handle heavy subjects
Can you spoil me?
the mother was searching for her lost son not knowing that her rapist when she was imprisoned was her son, thats basically it@@conq1273
Hi! Where is it streaming ! 😮
@@sandramendoza703 CZcams, Google Movies and Prime.
Spooky you need to talk about The Glory. Talk about like 20yrs worth of revenge planning
Watched it a couple days ago, been watching a lot of Asian horror/thrillers movies lately (watched somes b4 but wanted to broaden my knowledge). This one is easily amongst the best. Everything from cinematography, acting, music, etc is top notch. I know, different countries, but this one would not look out of place along park Chan wook's vengeance trilogy or I saw the devil, which is a biiig compliment imho. 10/10 movie
Edit: Another movie worth of having in this channel is, without a doubt, the forest of love, sht is messed up
By chance, where did you watch it? I can't seem to find a place to stream it
@@persephoneelizabeth9058In my country is hard to find movies like this, so I personally resorted to good ol torrent
"This is like Life is Strange" you sold me already. Also isn't there a manga about this subject? I could've sworn that a manga had a story a lot like this
Manhwa i think. I remember reading a manhwa like this
Late to this but there's a manga AFAIK which has a similiar plot called Maria no Danzai
i was hoping you’d cover this! it’s been getting alot of attention lately since it’s release and i was thinking to myself “this seems like spooky’s kind of movie”
I agree Japan needs to change that part of their penal code, children can be just as vicious as adults.
Can't believe you're covering this movie!! It haunted me for a while, I kept hoping that the teacher was bluffing about leaving the bomb in the mom's office since the hiv trick was also a lie 😢 but the book makes it seem like it really happened, which is fuuuuucked up. Completely destroyed student A's psyche
I love this movie so, so much. The book is okay but, rare though it is for me to say this, the movie is better that the book.
Matsu Takako is the perfect choice to play the lead.
(Having her play so hard against type was genius. I mean, she is is the one that voiced Elsa and sang the songs in the Japanese version of Frozen. Her 'Let it Go' is awesome.)
Having her playing the one coming for unending revenge in such a serene manner was ....chef's kiss.
And Hashimoto Ai basically started her career here. Same for Ashida Mana. Although Mana really started acting the moment she came out of the womb and worked non-stop since then. (she was the best part of Pacific Rim lol Guillermo del Toro said she was the best actress he had ever worked with, after having made her cry all day long)
The film has such a tone and mood. It is hypnotic, almost.
But I knew it was going to be a great film when, after class, the kids going down the hall when lightning struck close by and they all jumped in fear. Set the mood perfectly.
And I love her, "Just kidding" at the end.
You just know she will never stop working towards making those two evil little shits suffer to their dying day.
As you might guess, I'm a huge admirer of everything about this movie.
The book is certainly a condemnation of how child killers go free. To kill again.
Even a cursory search of Japanese child serial killers will show you they not only let them go, but protect them. Hell, one of them killed a bunch of other kids, and then put a decapitated head (that he *cough* 'violated') at the entrance to a school. He later wrote a book about what he did and how he enjoyed it. Even sent a copy to victim's family.
Man you know it’s a great day when spooky uploads
Amazing Video as always Spooky! May I suggest 10 Disturbing TV Episode scenes from popular shows maybe? :)
WHOEVER picked the soundtrack for this movie needs more recognition! Just watch this movie and listen along with the visuals just so good.
never thought you'd do this film but im glad you did cuz its an amazing film
Mothers that are willing to do anything for their kids are a force to be reckoned with. I’ll have to check out this movie and the book.
YES! Been waiting for you to talk about this and the world of Kanako. Kanako is one of my favorites!
Love your stuff man, keep up the fantastic work.
You know it’s gonna be a good day when spooky uploads
It's so nice how you have grown Spooky...I'd say your audio quality is now so on point. The quality is amazing. Rooting for you to have a million subs before end of 2024.
Spook i've been here since 10k im so proud of you!! ❤
Yayyy spooky posted!! Awesome video 🫶🏻
Talk about a mess up Justice in states or countries to be unfair on others. Seriously, that's not funny at all! Killing a child is so f' up! 😢
Yayyyy spookyrice uploaded 🎀😊
Bro why did I tear up at cue the gohan 🤧😭
Thank You so much Spooky for covering this film, it's one of my all time favorite Japanese films that holds a special place in heart. Keep up the great work.
hands down one of my favorite movie of all time. SO glad it made it onto your review list
No joke but I was looking at your channel last night thinking when you’d upload again and then I see this the following day 😭 Love your stuff!
I remember watching this for the first time. It was recommended to me from a under rated list a few years ago. This movie was a real ride and you are glued to the screen til the end. Very disturbing, indeed.
As a Dragon ball artist Akira Toriyama was a huge inspiration and it helped me to become a better artist.
Rest in peace Toriyama sama.
A movie I saw resently that disturbed me was Poor Things. It is about a child’s brain that is operated into a woman’s body. When she has sex in the movie (which happens alot) it feels like watching child porn. I was disturbed thru the whole movie.
So glad you covered this one! Years ago some friends recommended it but I couldn’t find it anywhere. Ordered a used DVD copy from eBay and watched it, finally. Hoping it’s more widely available now.
omg one of my favs movies getting appretietion IM SO GLAD !!!
love your videos spooky ✨
great breakdown. one of my favourites
YES! I'm so happy that you finally covered this movie! And I'm glad you liked it too Spooky.
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 😎👍
The biggest difference between the book and the movie is the just kidding ending
In the book, the end really does make it seem like she wants reform because its what her husband had done before and wanted for the boys. She respected him so much she tried to hold back some of her rage, it gave her more character imo
Also yukon was regarded as the good teacher and the new teacher kind of a try hard cringefest
God...DAMN, that was a ridiculous number of twists, that was awesome!
I didn’t know this was a movie!! I ate the book up it was so chilling
Omg I watched this movie back in high school!! And it left such a strong impression on me I always references it as great revenge movies!
Hey spooky you're videos are great! Including the comics May I suggest that you should've do a Disturbing scenes in Invincible comics because it's been a 2 years released Invincible animated series.
Where have you been daddy spooky wooky 🥺🥺🥺👉👈
The book was fantastic too, so was the series Penance based on a book by the same author. The only other English subtitled series by the author is the Snow White Murders which is OK, but I think I'd need to read the book. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an English translation :(
OMG great video bro. I. Totally have to go find this movie now!!!!
This movie is one you’ll never ever forget. The twists. How complicated the interwoven plots are. So cruel. So masterfully executed. So painful. Love it!!!
Whew, so finally listened to the audio book while at work and then re-watched this episode. I personally don't like watching movies based on a book I read but miiiiiiiiight make an exception here
I remember watching this. Was a pretty nice flick. Lessons of Evil was another good watch.
You should watch a movie called “Silenced”. It’s a very sad movie but really well. It’s about deaf kids who get abused in this school in North Korea. It’s based by a true story as well
Love broski. Hope you doing well
I saw this gem last night and absolutely loved the slow burn 💕 I wish they made more movies like this
I can't believe youre reviewing this one, this is my favorite Japanese movie!!
Glad I find your channel 🎉
This video, like many of the best Kill Counts, had me wanting to watch the film beforehand, and boy was it worth it. Thank you for the film recommendations Spooky.
THIS MOVIE REMINDS ME OF JAMES BULGER TOO💔
Holy shit this plot and all those twists are insane. And it's looks beautifully shot as well.
Who else said "Cue the Gohan" even with a mouthful of food?
Perhaps the greatest Japanese revenge film ever made tbh. It was insane this and South Korea's I Saw the Devil came out the same year.
I CANT BELIEVE YOU COVERED THIS I WANTED THIS DISTURBING BREAKDOWN SO BADD
a world of kanako breakdown would be INSANE
i loved cueing the gohan with you❤
Great video!!!!
Ooh spooky i love ur videos!!! So have u seen The Sadness yet omg check it out wen u can i cant wait to see ur breakdown of all the messed up stuff 😊 thanks for the videos wishing u the best 🎉❤😊
never thought you'd a video on this movie
She wanted to cause ultimate despair
I definitely tell it was world of kanako director i wish he made more movies like those 2 m i love his style of directing, the hiv in milk and the bomb scene were really whoa moments for me
I remember watching this. I saw a play with the boy playing Student A and decided to watch this after seeing him in that play. It almost felt like a decade ago when I watched it, can't believe I'm seeing it again.
Yay new spooky rice
Although i dont like DB and think it's insanely overrated, i will respect the loss of life and help you CUE THE GOHAN!!!
SPOOKY I LOVE UUUUUUUUU
Never been this early ❤
I love you, dude..
omg i just watched this movie friday after reading the book last month. both so good !!!!!
amazing soundrack
I saw this movie years ago and I loved it!
Yuko at the end gave up on redemption and went full revenge, whe let it consume her.
This reminded me of the Junko Furuta case as when the ones responsible were caught their parenta desecrated where ahe was laid to rest blaming her for euining their childrens' lives.
The other students bullying the ones responsible did so because in their own minds they are innocent and could be as horrible as they want.
Thw two students ruined their lives when they could have not do so.
Bought it on DVD when it was released and watched it because a friend of mine recommended it:
just brilliant! That's how I want my psychological thrillers! :)
Good video. I want to recommend the move , "Meet the Feebles." Strange and disturbing movie if you like the Muppets
Cue the Gohan 😢🙁😔
if you like the mothers revenge genre, i recommend the manga “maria no danzai”, the story of a woman who seeks revenge after learning the truth behind her son’s death.
Ok damn, this might be the first time I pause and go find the book and movie before watching your review 😳
Spooky, you should check out a 2014 Japanese movie called puzzle
Rare case of a movie being covered by Spooky that I watched already. This movie was great. Watched it on CZcams.
Imma peep this shit reminds me of a manga that came out recently about a mother who gets revenge on students that killed her son
Cue the Gohan!!
One of bes things in this movie is cinematography, its so well shot
I love you sppoky
There's a new manga releasing that has a VERY similar plot to this. She infiltrates their school pretending to be a nurse. Wonder if it's based on the book too
Name of Manga?
Have you done Dogtooth yet? Definitely belongs on your channel 😊
Oil up SpookyRice
Yeah this movie was amazing! Im glad to see this one reviewed!!!
I’m at 2:07 and my only thought is how trauma dumping on middle schoolers is the worst idea ever
RIP Toriyama Sensei.. your legacy and work will live forever
OOOOOO I'm here early for once
If you haven’t done it yet, you should make video of Liverleaf
The crazy doesn't stop
0:15 why the wet shart sound effect for Tetsuya Nakashima?! 😂
