I have to say, I was one of your earlier subscribers and it's great to see how you've evolved as a content creator since over 3 years ago. Thank you so much for hanging in there on this platform and creating something wholly original. Love your stuff ❤ 😊
Ya know what mai Chans daily life
Queue to go ONNNN!
@leoamilpa272 you mean queue the Gohan lol
Sucks that u cant see many videos anymore
I'm glad he got through that rough patch in his life
the stupid party city fucking tiger costume 😭😭
If I recall correctly in the movie, it was some kind of local Carnival type celebration and he used it as a disguise to make his getaway to the doctor's chateau.
@@Nonesovile96aint no way you said this😭😭😭
@@Nonesovile96No it’s very sad, not happy.
In case anyone was wondering, Vera and Vicente are not played by the same person.
I think this was done on purpose because Robert wanted Vincente to look more like his wife and not his original self whatsoever, hence using two different-looking actors
Thanks, Captain Obvious.
Still doesn't erase the fact he slept with his daughters rapist and whats even weirder is that he knows thats a man he operated on lmfao
This film honestly was unsettling in my opinion especially with the twist.
This is one of a few movies that left me speechless with the twist. As an avid lover of plot twist its rare to find a movie with a twist that I don't see coming. And I 100% did not see THAT coming
*spoiler*
Maybe I am an outlier here, but I didn’t feel TOO bad about Vicente/Vers because he literally sexually assaulted someone (the daughter).
I was literally about to comment the same thing. Like sorry but I’m not really sympathetic with Vicente as he’s a rapist himself.
You could almost feel sympathy in the movie version because it starts pretty consentual until that triggering song plays and then it turns into this weird bit of pandemonium. Now I don't recall if he kept going after she was freaking out so don't quote me as me stating as fact that he wasn't total scum. But in the book, there is 100% NO bones about it, no doubt he flat out assaults her and deserves everything that happens.
@ashh4929 he continues until he finishes. He covered her mouth and she either passes out or is suffocated by his hand. When she started screaming he should have stopped as consent was recalled but he continued like a vile animal
@ryn8613 OK, like I said it's been a minute since I've seen the movie and couldn't remember if he did that in the movie as well. (I have the book). He was WAY worse in the book.
He didn't r*pe her in the movie. He was High and ran away after she screamed and bit him. Normally was mentally unstable because of past traumas
she thought that she got r*ped. Although it is true that he forcefully kissed her . And also , during the kiss she didn't push him away because she didn't think that he was a threat to her safety. So he thought she liked him and wanted to go forward, but she screamed and he ran away.
@@ryn8613
This movie unlocked a new fear in me: being operated and permanently turned into the opposite sex without my consent. Yikes!
To help ease the trauma, I just imagine that Vincent never assaulted anyone and was actually trans but could never afford the surgery. So when she later becomes Vera, she’s a lot happier instead of traumatized. She still escapes from the crazy surgeon and goes onto live her life.
@@user-cx6lq8mt5g This created an entire movie/storyline that didn’t actually exists so you can feel better about what you just watched. That’s called dissassociation
Dude I'm so glad you covered this. Both the movie and the book are an absolutely fantastic psychological mind fuck.
@kodokushi8321 The book is called Mygale (or Tarantula in English) by Thierry Jonquet. It's worth the read, the plot is a bit different but just as deliciously fucked up. You might like the novel Perfume, the story of a murder, too. The descriptions the author makes in that novel are astounding.
There's another film adaptation of Mygale called Victim that came out a year before The Skin I Live In. It's definitely lower budget and focuses more on torturing the rapist.
This didn't focus on the torture? It's the whole twist. If you rewatch the movie knowing the twist, you realize it's going on psychological yet-- that's why he tried to commit suicide earlier on in the film.
Was that the one where the guy didn't even rape the girl? There's a movie like it where they got the wrong guy the whole time I think. There's also another one but it follows a hit man having it happened to him
While getting a gender reassignment surgery against your will is a pretty terrifying fate, it is a rather fitting form of punishment for rapists who prey on women. By making him into a woman, Vincent has to now live through and experience the everyday horrors that come with living as a woman (fear of being assaulted, raped, walking out alone at night, etc) that he formerly took part in when he was a guy.
Except for the fact that he didn't actually assault her and was innocent.
@@drabnail777but he did, it started out consenting but once she didn't want it anymore, he continued until he finished even though she was trying to push him off. He forced her back down. That's rape/SA
@@twoozyuzi2215 They were already consensual fu cking, then she freaked out cause of the song (not his fault), then bit his hand to which vicentte slaps her as self defence.- Innocent.
@@twoozyuzi2215 nah this was a fitting punishment for a p3dophil3/child abuser/serial r@pists but I think this went to far for even him. I seen the scene and it wasn’t that bad. Definitely wasn’t fitting for the crime.
@@drabnail777wtf were u thinking when u typed that shit nate
I feel it might be best you do a video on the movie "Unicorn Wars" from animator Alberto Vasquez. Honestly, it may seem cutesy and brightly colored at first, but as the story progresses, it turns out to be a dark and disturbing horror movie about what war does to everyone and everything...
I agree, I' d love to see Spooky cover it!
Alot of people say this film sucks but it's very art house and people don't like films that make them think
That's 💯
That's why Pauly Shore movies aren't that popular
Antonio Bandaras is doing awesome in villain roles nowadays! ^^
This movie had me traumatized when I watched this at 13 😅
Lmao same i accidentally watched it 😭😭😭
Thank you for covering this movie Spooky!!! I saw it years ago and shocked me the lengths a father goes to punish his daughter's rapist (I think she also had a mental developmental problem), but ends up becoming a monster so he dies like one, but the rapist needs to carry on with the guilt of what he did for his whole life, in a physical form. What shocked me was how he lived the abuse as a woman, and how men did awful remarks to his female self in a similar way he did to Norma. I really liked this movie because the controversy and "horror" Go beyond jump scares and gore and it's embedded in the plot, and the script (overall) actually makes sense to allow that horror. Wonderful job Spooky!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It’s an incredible writing piece, the feelings of a father who had his daughter assaulted leaving him to become a monster. And a rapist, who takes on the role of what women really endure literally.
Vincente didn't assault anyone, from my understanding. He was a just a guy that the father THOUGHT did it, and didn't bother to find out the facts before going revenge mode. Zeca is the guy who assaulted someone and he just died, while the innocent guy got a sex change operation forced on him.
@@peytonmac1131no, he was the guy who forced the guys daughter to continue even after she bite him and tried to push him off
There’s a sequel to mai Chans daily life called mai Chans daily life eternal dissection you have to do a video on it
Garfield is epic if you see this reply go watch the Garfield show
I had no idea there was a sequel until I read your comment. Just searched it up and yeah its still as fucked up as the first.
@@kimackerman2183 also think there’s a third one but I’m into lost media and I’m trying to persevere everything related to it and it author
@@Cheese20044 same here I'm a fan of the eroguro genre and reading Uziga Waita's works in English or even finding them in Japanese can be hard
@@kimackerman2183 I’m not into gore well I like gore just doesn’t turn me on I but I do think one of his movies are lost media it was about zombies maybe you read it? This is one of the best, most unique films I have ever seen. I love it. The plot twist was jaw dropping.
this is without a doubt 1 of the most depressing films you've covered. if anything, i was feeling more saddened as the movie went on rather than horrified
I've watched several reviews of this movie and, honestly, yours is one of my favorites. Hilarious, and yet you made some insightful observations that showed you truly considered the movie and didn't just see it as a click-bait gimmick to gawk at.
You're one of the few reviewers I've seen talk about this movie. I'm glad to see other people are interested in this film. I saw it years ago and enjoyed it, and it's good to see that I'm not the only one.
AWWW YEAH!! New spooky rice! Thank you for making my Monday better!
Spooky coming in clutch! Thanks for the great video!
long time viewer here, love your content!!! the new uploads have been great, wish they were a little longer though. great job and progress!!!!!
What is weird as hell to me is that I watched this 3 days ago.
I like your narrations. Keep it coming spookyrice
This is one of the few movies that genuinely surprised me. I literally could not predict the ending at all. When the big reveal happened, I did not see it coming.
I am new on your channel and I am literally eating all your videos 😂 Love your energy and the bit of humor you sprinkle to ease a bit the horror but also your kind messages like at the end of this episode and the respect that you show. Thank you for your hard work!
Thank you for all the mind-blowing disturbing movie we get to experience through your videos
Yesssss! Omg I have been waiting for this .
Its a good day when Spooky uploads.
I've been DYIN to see your review of this movie spooky !
been waiting for you to cover this movieee!!
Been a fan for 6 years now! Love your stuff spooky!!
I loved your delivery in this video. You were so fun and silly to listen to lol
So I didn't know what this movie was about at first, but after finishing it I felt dizzy and had nightmares for a few days. Even though I watched hundreds of horror movies, I wasn't just prepared for this one. Anyways, great job and thank you for the video!
it’s been years since i watched
i miss the accent in the earlier vids-
good to see bro blow up tho
Remember watching you in 8th grade I’m 20 now and it is still hitting like old times ❤ wonder what other disturbing movies will come out. When evil lurks had me shocked
When Spook is in a good mood it puts me in a good mood too. :)
I have a hard time with this. The rapist is supposed to be the hero? Every single person in this movie is awful.
One of my favorite films! That was one of the best twists I've ever seen in cinema!
Damn spooky you at 605 I’m proud of you man kudos.
Great seeing a Spookycap of a more “mainstream” but still weird movie.
Saw this in theaters way back when, and I was so blown away. Both by the singer (Concha Buika, of whom I am now a big fan) and the horror of this particular Almodóvar film.
It’s a great one!
Bro thanks for reviewing these movies i can’t make it through most of them
A fight to regain one's own identity is what made that film a good watch.
U have come a long way, proud of u buddy 💪
YOURE BACK!!!❤❤
Good video and good movie. Well done Mr. SpookyRice!!!🔥🔥🔥
Always surprised I haven't seen the cast get a cross over following this film. But glad Antonio being in it did get it more attention with a broader audience, because it's quite the movie. Wish we got more intrigue in films like this one.
I just watched this movie and you do a breakdown literally three days later 😂
Hey bro! I got some movie suggestions and you don't have to watch them but I think I'd die of happiness (ha) if you did them. The greasy strangler and the lure? If you've done one and I missed it then I'm a smacked ass but if you haven't...both are so much fun and I'd love seeing you break them down. You are awesome.
who is editing this video 😭 some of these edits are outta pocket!
Finally back too the disturbing horror reviews
babe wake up new spookyrice video
This was such a wild movie...I remember watching it and be like who greenlighted this script?? I get it's Almodovar but it's still so wild to me.
Definitely the definition of disturbing breakdown - have no doubt that's exactly what a number of people who saw this in theaters had. From the guy who brought us VOLVER and ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER and the guy who played El Mariachi and Zorro!
Calvaire (film) 2004
The living and the dead 2006
Palfi taxidermia 2006
I think you'll find them interesting!
oh shit i had totally forgotten about this movie!! my spanish teacher had brought it to class one day and i did NOT expect to like a movie that a teacher brought in this much, but that woman was the coolest and her taste in movies reflected that. good memories. can't wait to rewatch the movie later haha
Yay i was hoping you would cover this. Its a good movie but very very messed up. I hope you cover the wailing its a good horror movie.
This is a pretty good one, Spooky!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍
You should review The Bar (2017) which features the actress who play the daughter and it's similar to The Divided (note the movie changed genres and for strange reasons it's referred it's a black comedy even though the only funny part is Mario Casa character)
The twist is one of the most unnerving experiences in film. It’s not the most graphic film, but if leads a lasting mark far more than any gore or brutality can.
What a wild and crazy twist 😮
Sometimes I start watching your breakdowns and have to quit halfway through because I realize I want to go watch the movie lol
This film always horrified me extra as a trans person. You correctly naming and gendering the character at the end just healed some of the damage the movie did!
I know right. I always hear people use this film as an anti-trans argument, then don’t realize that this movie disturbs trans people just as much as it does them.
🙄
@@charlesagarcya What's wrong with you?
@@bvideos8299 wrong with me? Haha nothing. I just don't accept delusional fairytale boolshit
Foreign films always make the most disturbing movies. I mean they really touch towards dark subjects, and watching this really made me feel uncomfortable.
i had watched this movie when i was a child, nice memory...
OMG OMG
I thought about sugesting you this movie. I watched it at like 12-13? and it messed me up back then. Need to rewatch. It became kinda relatable to me
Where were your parents?!
@@SpellboundWolf probably sleeping XD
Not counting my dead mom
She was dead
Oh wait, I actually remembered they were out for the night. I also watched it with my year younger sister I think XD
This movie was going in so many directions 😭
DUUUUDE!!! You try out reading Creepypastas!!! Penpal, Three Friends Diner, Those Deep Wells, Borrasaka!!!
SPOOKY DID YOU HEAR ME OR IS THIS COINCIDENCE!?!? 💖💖 thanks for posting regardless!!
Spooky, my respect for trying to pronounce "Almodóvar" and the rest of the names correctly. But I guess that you had enough spanish when the name of the villa appeared (La Cigarra) or when she went to one of our Law Enforcement agencies (La Guardia Civil) 😂😂
One of my favorite movies of all time
Didn't you already do this one a while ago? There's so many movies man! Don't look back
This was probably the first movie I've ever know of where Antonio Banderas had a role in a disturbing movie. The only movies I knew of was movies like spy kids, zorro and desperado where he was in.
I had this movie on my Watchlist and wanted to watch it before I watched your recap.
Semi-forgot the title and accidentally ended up watching Skins (Pieles in Spanish) 2017. Made me mega uncomfortable. Could hardly finish it
nowww THATSSS HOW you do a TWIST!!!!1
Bruh I wish your shirt had the leaping Gohan image
My wife and I watched this last week. Now any time one of us is being disagreeable or did something "bad" we say you better watch out or Antonio Banderas is gonna get you.
Hey Spooky rice just wondering, why did you delete a lot of your old videos like the I spit on your grave videos. Also why did you turn off comments for some of your old videos? I miss those old reviews.
They’ve been deleted by youtube, he didn’t delete them himself.
@@disturbedblair fuck. He could’ve just archived on rumble or bitshout
beautiful film 👍
Probably the only movie you’ve reviewed that I want to watch 😂
That was wild!
Literally was JUST talking about this film with my coworkers on Friday!
This is a great David Cronenberg esque movie
Now this movie the twist the only thing I can say about that, that is how you do a twist M. Night needs to take listen from Pedro Almodovar!
Damn I talk about this movie all of the time!!!!!
Oh I love this film!
I’m very face blind when I go into new movies, and I SWEAR TO GOD I though both of the older mother characters were the SAME woman, and that every main character were related to each other
I thought I was putting the pieces together cause the mom explains early on in the movie that she had multiple kids by different men and never told them about their brothers
Do The uh Upcoming Disturbing Breakdown It's called The Curse of Humpty Dumpty Please!
Fantastic film
I had a pretentious phase, and watching obscure movies like this was included in this phase 😅
When i was 15, this movie rocked my world.
What a twist!
I hate trailing missions too 😂😂❤❤
Almodovar is a great director, HIGHLY recommend his movies, he has some really unnerving content
Thanks!
I needed to come to the comments to see what was the name of the guy, VICENTE! 😂 man! I was confused, vaicinti
Pedro Almodóvar is a genius/icon and that's cool and all but I've seen this move multiple times and soooo many yt channels covered it. Im gonna skip this one. Please carry on!
Interesting premise for a film
