You just described calvary

*Der Fremde dort unter ihnen hatte ein großes Eisen an seiner hüfte* 🎶
Yeah that definitely looks like a Horse Pistol As the old timers said
I like that you called it the Austro-Hungarian TEXAS Walker as if the Walker requires Texas in its name 😂
Watching Mae dissappear behind a wall of smoke after every shot cracks me up.
You can't see what you hit, but they can't see what they were hit by!
Ninja vanish! 💨 🥷
Sadly it also hides her smile.
@@padfoot1058 we simp for gun lady huh?
With all the smoke it produces, Gasser is a more than appropriate name
The pistol that also provides a smoke screen!
The only thing you could do to make this monstrosity more steampunk is put a dial or a valve on it somewhere.
I would not be surprised if they were already on there, and simply were not visible in the video...😊
Definitely a pressure gauge. And some brass tubes that don't have any actual function. And a Jules Verne patent plate tacked onto the grip.
When the Austro-Hungarian Gendarme is after Bosnian Red
To the Monte of Grappa rode a cavalleria one fine day....
@@stevemc6010 Hardly spoke to Volk around him, didn't have to much to sayyyyyyy
@@kitchenjail3546 No one dared to ask his business
No one dared to make a slip
The stranger there among them
Had a Gasser on his hip
_Gasser on his hiiip_
It was early in the morning
When he rode into the town
He came riding from the south side
Slowly looking all around
"He's an lopov loose and running"
Came the whisper from each lip
"And he's here to do some business
With the Gasser on his hip"
_Gasser on his hiiip_
In this town there lived an outlaw
By the name of Bosnian Red
Many men had tried to take him
And that many men were dead
He was vicious and a killer
Though a youth of twenty-four
And the notches on his pistol
Numbered one and nineteen more
_One and nineteen mooo-ooore_
Now the stranger started talking
Made it plain to folks around
Was a _kk Gendarmie_
Wouldn't be too long in town
He came here to take a lopov
Back alive, or maybe dead
And he said it didn't matter
He was after Bosnian Red

Was relayed to Bosnian Red
But the lopov didn't worry
Men that tried before were dead

The morning passed so quickly
It was time for them to meet
It was twenty past eleven
When they walked out in the street
Volk were watching from the windows
Everybody held their breath
They knew this handsome Gendarme
Was about to meet his death
_'Bout to meet his deeee-aaaath_
There was forty feet between them
When they stopped to make their play
And the swiftness of the Gendarme
Is still talked about today
Bosnian Red had not cleared leather
'Fore a bullet fairly ripped
And the Gendarme's aim was deadly
With the Gasser on his hip
_Gasser on his hiii-iip_
It was over in a moment
And the Volk had gathered round
There before them lay the body
Of the lopov on the ground
Oh, he might have went on livin'
But he made one fatal slip
When he tried to match the Gendarme
With the Gasser on his hip

Gasser, Gasser
When he tried to match the Gendarme
With the Gasser on his hip

Long live Big Iron.
Tbh this is my favourite of the antique old style non smokeless cartridge revolvers. Just so large but with that super distinctive victorian style.
What makes it more victorian, is that a Majority of Gasser Revolvers were _literally_ made of Iron...
Meaning dropping it caused it to get bent and/or dented.
Your profile pic makes me question reality xD
@@generalgrevious758 XD
It's great because when you shoot it, the enemy no longer knows what dimension the bullets are coming from.
Austro-Hungarian Army: So, we need a gun to reflect the competence and stability of our glorious thousand-year empire.
Gasser: I have _just the thing_ !
Dang, that's a BIG gun!
The bore axis is about a mile in the air.
Also, chance has me in less than 30 seconds after the video dropped.
It's perfect... It allows a person to hip fire while looking down the sights.
Yeah the more I see late 19th century/early 20th century European revolvers the more I appreciate the Colt 1873.
The 1873 is more or less still in production in many variants well liked and in the US still carried as a defense firearm by rural folks and cowboy action shooters who put many many rounds through them.
Correct@@simonacerton3478
When the single action pull is measured in inches.
Ah yes, to think every man in Montenegro was required to own one. Glorious.
Nobody:
Me using this in Battlefield 1 and getting clapped by a German with an experimental sub machine gun:
Dude...literally every time.
I love this gun in bf1.
@LTrain45 45 Being rude is more played out than that comment. Chill man, chill. It's CZcams.
@LTrain45 45 evidently I struck a nerve? I don’t serve to appease you.
"Obsolete at the start of the war, it was Favored by Austrian Stormtroopers for its stopping power"
When Mae gives you that big smile after shootin an old piece.
It's been a good day.
Love the channel.
I am pretty sure this gun is cited in a book by Italo Calvino, The Path of Spider's Nests. It is described as a "big austrian gun" and the Gasser suddenly popped into my mind
Definitely among the most steampunk TM firearms to see serial production
I just discovered this series and already love it, seeing these old and rare guns shooting and learning about them is awesome, you just earned a new subscriber
That looks like something you would come up with if you were trying to produce a "steampunk" revolver, that actually works.
This looks like something a character Mae's size wields single-handedly in a steampunk type drama
Awesome series!
Ooooo, I have one of those! The grips on mine are actually ivory and the mainspring is broken so you can't fire it. I had no clue what kind of ammo it took or what kind of pistol it was. It has been basically a wall hanger at my parents' place since forever. Well, at least I have something to talk about over Thanksgiving
I toured the battleship Texas. Played around with one of it's 5" deck guns. I want to see Mae shoot that!
Wow, these are over sooo fast.
Love the format, great video.
Thanks for the video. I always wanted to try one of those things. Now, you've saved me that need.
more of these please!
Bruh this guy was underrated in bf1, was a fuckin beast
Smoked many a Frenchie with one ; )

How did I miss this video?? It’s my favorite!
Love these shorts
Well done Mae! Thanks.
B I G I R O N
Really lives up to the name with those big smoke puffs.
Thank you
A great minute.
Probably why you see so few working examples of that hand gun around.
I kinda just needed a hug and these videos give me mental hug
Thank you Mae!
What a beautiful CANNON. LOVE your reviews..
My definition of 'gilded age technology'
Straight-up steampunk.
It definitely has an _INDUSTRIAL_ look to it.
The artists at Bungie were definitely thinking on the scale of the Gasser when they made hand cannons for Destiny.
"Lmao why are you using that old revolver, we have self loading pistols now."
*BANG!*
"... Oh."
Very Good!..
The best part about this gun is that it provides a smoke screen to protect you as you retreat somewhere to reload.
A few years ago my grandpa found an old revolver in his house in Hungary. For a long time we thought it was some Soviet revolver but after this long search I can confidently say we found our answer
Eyyy, it's a minute of Maeee
that trigger pull looks like a chore
I want one!
good lord someone was definitely compensating when designing this hand artillery piece
the gun was designed after the cartridge - the Cavallerie wanted "one cartidge only", and so they had to use the carbine cartridge
@@aasphaltmueller5178 i guess you could say that for the cav, their other carbine is a Gasser.
Battlefield 1
My favorite sniper sidearm
Ir's an assault sidearm though, Sniper's revolver is the Bodeo.
Ohhh man that trigger pull for double action
I don't remember which model of Gasser revolver it was, but the King of Montenegro apparently owned some interest in the company, and mandated that every one of his male subjects had to purchase one...I want to say they called it the "Montenegrin" model and as I recall it was one of the bigger models!
So beautiful and also very stupid. I absolutely love this silly gun. I’ve “dry fired” one, (snap caps) and my front sight vanished from view. I’m actually surprised/impressed Mae hit the paper. (I was quite young and inexperienced at the time only ever shooting a Luger and a Woodsman or High Standard).
Yeah, I suspect that the horrible trigger experience includes a horrible amount of over-travel.
Still an effective lead slinging, enemy dropping, awesome friend to have at your side.
It looks like something Van Helsing would load up with silver bullets to use against vampires.😁
Just curious as to the reloading of ammo. What cases, bullet style and weight, charge load?
If you shoot all of your ammo and the enemy is still coming you should throw the gun at him.
Or use it as a club
Good Shooting Ranges offer classes in Gun Throwing.
Muy bueno tu vídeo saludos desde Argentina
the story behind them is really cool
I was expecting this one...
Nice.
It looks like the Dollar General version of the LeMat.
Yep that is a big hand gun ! Fun too watch !
So much WANT!
This is the gun that was once required by law to own! More than 100 yrs ago the king of Montenegro owned shares in the factory that made these, so he decreed that every male subject must own & carry one prominently on his person. I'd like to see the crime statistics from that time & place...
WOW!
Damn isn't that a chonky gun.
I wan't a modern steel reproduction!
The gun is so interesting looking my eyes stayed on it the whole time for once.
Nice
That thing is still super cool.
This was my fav sidearm running assault in BF1 lol
How do you hit anything waving the gun around like that?
Hello from Sweden 🇸🇪
I love her smile. She gets to shoot all sorts of cool stuff. I'm jealous.
I want one. Fist video ive seen of someone shooting it
"Gasser." Hind sight being what it is. This would have been a pretty appropriate name for my dog
Mine as well
Love you Mae.......
What are the ballistics on this cartridge when fired from that revolver? Bullet weight and velocity?
not extremly powerfull , about it shoot with blackpowder
It propels a massive 330gn bullet at a leisurely 500fps.
Bear in mind there's a "pistol" and a "carbine" load for this cartridge. The "pistol" load has about 20% less powder. The "carbine" load probably achieves around 600fps.
Still, even at that lazy velocity, a .45 caliber, 330 grain projectile is gonna do some serious damage.
Diese Rast u Gasser waren damals schonbesser ausgereift als heutige Revolver. Ich sammle seit Jahren diese Dinger und es macht immer wieder Spass damit zu ballern. Nachteil. - die 8 mmR.uG sind teuer.
I'm amazed how long it took for revolvers to eject cases more efficiently. I suppose when the standard for rapid repeating is cap and ball, even the one-at-a-time pachooger is an improvement.
Crane arms and ejector stars require surprisingly finicky, robust metallurgy to work right and last long. The ideas were there, I'm sure, just waiting for materials science to catch up.
I think I want to get my hands on one of these to dimension it out in cad and then try and squeeze better lock work into it and chamber it in either 45 colt or 454 Cassull with black powder only.
As beefy, and unwieldy as the Gasser seems, I'd definitely want it if I was backpacking or camping in Alaska, or Montana- the power of the Cartridge alone could make up for some of it's lesser qualities.
Also heard that German Stormtroopers during The Great War liked to pack these around- exactly for that reason, the high power of the cartridge.
I'd rather a Colt SAA. Missing the charging bear with a huge bullet does you no good lol.
That trigger looks like a special kind of bad: I wonder how it's designed internally that makes it so heavy.
Dear the town of our freedom rode a stranger one fine day…
Perfect hand cannon for ankle carry.
Dirty Harry's backup weapon
I feel like BF1 is underpowering every revolver except for Peacekeeper.
Is the Gasser low recoil? Or is Mae Just really strong.
At first looking at this gun I thought “ it’s going to be hard to fight with that” until I saw it was double action
Its called the 1870 cause the barrel is 1,870 feet above your hand when you fire it
Gasser = Real Life Steampunk = I Want!
One of my favourite handguns of all time.
11mm Gasser can be made via trimming 45-70 down to the appropriate length.😉
But how many clips can it hold?
I have never heard of one of these, but now I want one because it's so steampunk-esk lmao
That's a freakin hand cannon !!!!÷ wowser !!
Es un excelente revolver para su época.
Con el sistema Abadie - que desconecta el martillo cuando se abre la puerta para carga y descarga - precursor de la barra de transferencia.
Yo quisiera tenerlo entre mis fierros.
The channel is going to need a bigger Mae.
Like any Gunslinger she shoots with her heart and she has big enough heart for a even this steampunk hand cannon. (and yes i know the correct litany, we hope Mae doesn't have to kill anything but paper)
What's the caliber, kinda reminds me of the 1873 Colt a bit.
11.3x36mm, so .445
Mbak belinya dimana
That's a cool looking revolver although it seems a bit wonky
