Jeep TJ On Golden Spike Trail

- Customer called about their Jeep stuck on Golden Spike Trail with a broken axleshaft. On the older jeeps if the axleshaft breaks, the whole tire trys to leave the chat. So we headed out on Thanksgiving morning to grab it. We got to the vehicle and decided maybe we could weld the axleshaft back together to help easy in the recovery. Once apart we realized we didn't have the special socket to dismantle the locker. So we went back to original plan of carrying it out. To do that we had to remove the spare tire and rack to be able to pick it up from the rear. We had to use extra caution while towing it to keep from damaging the top or the back window. We got it out safely and still made it to dinner on time for Thanksgiving. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

I am the owner of the TJ and I really appreciate Rory and his crew getting it out safely. It was a real drag breaking the axle in the middle of Golden Spike, I knew it wasn't gonna be easy to tow it out. I looked for an axle in the Moab area and nobody had one, towing out was the only option. The guys did a great job and on Thanksgiving Day, which was not expected but very much appreciated. If I would have known they might try and weld it, I had the tool in my box they were missing...bummer. Note: Ordered two new rear Chromoly axles, parts are in and repair/upgrade will be underway. Thanks to the person that said it looks like a nice rig that is capable and also street drivable, it does sort of split the difference, but I did tow it to Moab from Southern CA...good thing I did.
A lot of D35s have met their demise on this trail…TJ 44s or a Ford 8.8 (31 spline) are pretty easy to find these days. Probably worth a swap over a repair.
What did the tow out cost?
Dude totally, the effort and skill needed to do this kinda thing is serious - yet they make it look easy. Like it's just another day etc. Total badasses
Shawn is sitting in the Jeep dangling facing down the waterfall and the amount of concern on his face is about as much as someone looking over a lunch menu.
You're a great team!
Rory's skill never ceases to amaze me, and Sean is a very trusting man. He looks so calm being dragged backwards through those obstacles. He has nerves of steel (or balls of brass).💪 🙈
bronze balls for sure!
Hats off to the cameraman for the extreme bravery! Filming the intro straight from a diamond billed rock pecker nest is really something!!!
The waterfall scene was intense. Rory working multiple winches and feathering the clutch. Mike watching the pole and filming. Mater chugging down to 200rpm. And Sean hanging on for dear life!! 😮
Sean was just sittin there like ''just another day''. It was great.
''I'm alive!'' Like Rory would let anything happen to his buddy lol
finally that someone cares about others, who gets the rocks out of the way
That opening shot is awesome man. I appreciate you guys. Thanks for sharing
I love those camera angles under the rig as you go over obstacles. Kudos to your camera crew. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
And the opening shot/edit for this one was slick.
Mikes got SKILLZ dont he. 👍👍✌
Looks like the left rear axle seal or break seal is leaking
Amazing technica extraction skills. I'm REALLY looking forward to the tow truck Olympics!
The camera work is almost as impressive as the driving. Most people would be too afraid of the obstacles to record anything, much less looking for creative shots.
Rory and Sean are terrific drivers. Always amazed (and I’ve ridden dirt bikes all over that area). Going up that trail, facing backwards, with three wheels, was Sean, steady the whole way with nerves of steel.
But the pants were dirty.
The nuttiest recovery service for sure. Love watching you guys horsing around and recovering broken-down vehicles. 🤣🤣🤣
That wrecker is a beast, and Rory damn sure knows the limits of his abilities: Endless
Great team work Shawn and Mike. I always enjoy the shows. Thanks guys
Now I picture a flood of calls from broken vehicles looking for the famed rock!
And this is exactly why Rory will win the “Tow Truck Olympics!”
Great job guys!
"The rock in the wheels, goes round and round, round and round".
Like the editing on the intro. Always fun to go along on any of your recoveries but It’s special when Trail Mater is on the job. I’m surprised Shawn made it as far as he did riding backwards on that terrain.
Strong effort on recovery. Im nominating your crew for an academy award on camera work! Love dirt
Damn !
I love watching Rory
use that torque !
👀
Another great recovery with awesome film work . Shawn , that has to be one heck of a crazy ride being towed backwards along with wild angles side to side and forward and back . You guys are one hell of a team !
The skill Rory shows, climbing the waterfall, coordinating clutch, winches, and pole and not damaging the customers' rig is impressive, as always. Love the snacheting ratch-block!🤪🤣🤣🤣
Going up the waterfall looked sketchy as a MOFO but look at Sean in the Tj no concern and no fear, it's a testament to faith and trust in you and what you do. GREAT WORK GUYS!
Great video! From the first "hole shot" edit to the crazy recovery with shawn dangling in the Jeep to the great drivig skills and camera work, that was a wild adventure. Thanks for bringing us along.
I wish there would have been a camera inside the Jeep to catch Sean's expressions and reactions. 🤣😂😅😆😁 ya gotta love the guy. Thank you Rory and crew.
That was an awesome recovery. In my mind Trail Mater and crew have already won the tow truck Olympics.
I just love how much fun you guys have out there doing your job!! You can tell how much you really enjoy what you do and where you do it. Thanks for taking us along on the adventures, Rory, Mike, & Shawn.
The ultimate off road vehicle is the one that can rearrange the terrain to suit your needs while you drive it. Haha. Epic.
The extraordinary for everyone else is another day at the office for the Trail Mater team. Thanks again for the great entertainment.
I'm afraid I got lost at turn left at the little bush cause all I see is rocks🤣🤣🤣
The Diamond-Billed Rockpecker cam!
Staying focused on the recovery's & not trying to sell sell sell products. Keep it original & we'll keep watching.
That was a wild recovery guys. Ya know, folks pay big money at amusement parks to get a ride like Shawn just got.
I’m having a hard time imagining someone can come up with a tow truck Olympics that you guys would lose. Thanks for the fun video!
Rory has been moving big rocks that way for thousands of years. Don't try it yourself he's a professional.
Nice new BFG's!🙂
This is a great example of the teamwork required to pull off a recovery like this. Everyone working together to get the job done and still having fun while they do it!
I’m sure the teamwork bit IS the fun, what a team👍🏻 ❤️🇷🇴
Hi Team!! So many things could be commented on… But to Rory it seemed to be one of his more technical, difficult, awkward recoveries…But it was the most hilarious, comic recovery ever!! Poor Sean in that jeep!! “Sea legs “, I’ll say!!! Thank you Mike for the picture of the deep gorge/Canyon..... And the jokes about “nothing going on here, it’s not like we’re on a ledge or anything” , YA RIGHT!! Loved the Dance banter at the end.. was cool, I bet Sean would be the best one, and the coolest dance!! AND the Trail Mater birth of the rock give away, hahaha! Thanks so much for the laughs!! And the holding of my breath on the climbs!!!
Maybe not the most spectacular recovery, but probably one of the best that demonstrates the skills of Rory, Shaun & Mike, and the awesome capabilities of Trail Mater. It's subtle, watch it twice and appreciate the skills.
Front digs in every video. Who's with me?
I love the infinite uses for electrical tape in these videos!
Look at those new shoes!
Man you guys are a good example of true teamwork I’m sure there is yelling and throwing we don’t see but you guys get done always fun to watch
The trail mater camaraderie is the best. The guys work well together, always safely. The ball breaking is exactly what you would expect from that team.
I hope Shawn got some extra goodies for riding backwards and tilted face down. That sucked for him!! Great recovery.
Love the intro. Very creative. Those are some BIG rocks you relocated there Rory. No matter how many times I see the front wheel crawl it still impresses me, you have fantastic skills. Shawn got quite the ride in reverse. Your camaraderie is wonderful to see. Thanks to Mike and for the excellent cinematography.
Not many people can say they have done Golden Spike backwards in a 3 wheeled Jeep, But Shawn can.
I love Sean putting Mike on the spot. Lol God bless
Trail Mater is a BEAST!!!! Paul and Matt better be practicing because they're going to have their hands full going against Team Trail Mater!!
Great awesome, recovery and no damage done towing it out! Job well done guys
This is why ladies & gentlemen, Rory & crew will win the Wrecker Olympics hands down.
After watching this video when it first came out, my family and I was so excited to see if the mater egg was still there. And I have to say the egg was there. The family was so excited.
The quality of the last few videos has been exceptional!
I love all of the "unnecessary front digs"...I sure wish my rig could do that!
That backwards ride out had to be intense for Shawn!!
It's funny going back through the videos and seeing the tread on the tires get bigger the farther back you go lol
Love the humor between Sean and Mike
Another great commercial for BFGOODRICH tires. Lol
Man that truck goes almost anywhere it wants, Amazing!
remeber when matt moved something and had to put it back .......
Technically speaking, Shawn was land sick!
I’ve learned a lot from your off road driving techniques! Thanks!
Watching Rory simultaneously use three winches while pulling a TJ up already-ballsy obstacles was beyond great content, but then y'all had to show us the "ratcheting snatch block" *patent pending.
Bravo, guys.
Tonto looks so serious when he's working!!
Lol the why it gotta be a dance thing had me rolling 🤣
That editing at the very beginning was a *TRIP!* 🤯🙂👍
I saw that rock at the beginning and was thinking.. I bet that rock would absolutely YEET itself a mile into the sky on the freeway🤣
Another Great Rescue Guys! GO TEAM MATER! Thanks for Sharing!
Mater spinning all fours towing that jeep is epic 🤘🏽
AMAZING!!!!!! Excellent driving Rory! This is my most favorite episode so far! Fantastic driving skills and working the winches at the same time! Crazy!👍🏻😎🇺🇸
Wow!! No thanks on being on that jeep ride!! 😂
Oh man. When that old big block reaches deep for those ugga duggas . . . . no sweeter sound than that if you come from that land of torque where I come from.
I’m always amazed at the scenery around Moab. I have missed wheeling there the past view years. Riding backwards like that in the Jeep would have made me sick. Great job on that recovery guys!!!!!
look at those new tires !!!!!!!!!
Thanks for takin us along for another adventure and thanks for no crappy music !
I watched twice 1st for the rescue, 2nd for the landscapes, I marvel at the footage you capture, you truly reveal the grand, spectacular wonder of the area
Never watched a dissatisfying video by Rory and his team! Some of the best entertainment!
Thanks again for such a wonderful video!
First the "sky hook", now the "retching snatch block" not to mention the "Dimond bill"! Yu guys are so COOOOOOOL. great video!!!!
Awesome recovery team doing an almost unbelievable job - and having fun doing it. Thanks guys.
In every single video, even though I know to expect it, I'm still blown away by Rory's driving and trailmater's capability.
you makes me always and always happy guys tks.
The waterfall winching was the reason I keep on coming back to this great channel: such great skills all round. Hats off to you Rory: thanks mate.
Sean has more miles going backwards than some have going forward 😳 🤣
MIND BLOWN....!!!!
GREAT RECOVERY GUYS...!!!!
A GREAT TEAM IS ALWAYS SUCCESSFUL...!!!!
Watching a master at his craft is a pleasure. Fine work getting back up the Waterfall with the Jeep in tow.
Sean can’t see where Rory’s taking him but he can see where Romy’s been. Good job as usual.
Cool video clip with Trail Mater through the rock cave right into Rory's intro... Good morning to the rest of the crew, Mike, Shawn and Chris too.... those brand new BFG's getting their intro to Moab 🙂 Maybe that warning sign should be a 4'x8' with LED flashing lights😂 and the remotes look great in their new home on the roll cage too.... WOW 🥰 a Trail Mater egg, even signed... should be worth $50k on the open market.... Shawn was soo cool and collected while his ride is standing vertical on the trail 🙂... and once again I always stay right to the very end... I LOVE the out take clips 🙂 you can probably paint the ratcheting snatch blocks yellow and sell them to Matt for a HUGE margin
I'll bet that was a wild ride from Shawn's perspective!
Rory is so fashionable with his color coordinated matching gloves and hoodie, Please tell us he hasn’t gone Hollywood!
"A funnel, gloves, this is getting serious" Lol. Classic Mikey.
I love seeing the cutting edge tech used on the recoveries. A+
Mike was trying so hard NOT to say, "ahh, but some of my friends are Natives". 🤣 lol
Backing that jeep down that Hill towed, is amazing!!!
Sean is a warrior true nerves of steel. You guys are killing me. Priceless video.
Busting each other's balls at the end... priceless!
We all know Rory & team can navigate absolutely unreal terrain & make it look easy... but add dragging a broken vehicle thru terrain most people & vehicles couldn't or wouldn't... on top of that.. this time Rory was operating THREE winches @ the same time. ( boom lift, Drag winch & Front bumper ) as the terrain & clearance changed.... I've been wheelin' since the 90s, been a professional tow operator since the 80s & Rory still impresses with his skill & creativity & trailside repairs.... Addicting content! I'm happy for Rory that his channel is growing.... good man, he deserves it!
Thank you sir. Was definitely running out of fingers and hands on this one.
Sean has balls of steel man getting towed backward and looking straight down at the ground
I noticed the rock between the tires early in in the video and again when you were moving the big rocks out of the way. Hopefully no sidewalls were damaged in the process on the new shoes. .
Always fun to watch.
#1 in uploads. Thanks Guys. Never a dull moment. Ratcheting Snatch Block...If it works, it's golden.
YOU ARE A ABSOLUTE MASTER AT BEING SOO SMOOTH AT ROCK CRAWLING MATT CAN ONLY DREAM ABOUT HAVING YOUR TECH-NIQUE KEEP UP THE CONTENT YOU ARE DOING GREAT
Thanks, guys for the under carriage of trailmater over the rocks. Great view that we never get to see.
