I loved this movie! Malignant and Barbarian are two of my recent favorites too. I never knew that I had a horror “type” but maybe I do.
Ditto, I loved this. This and Talk to Me have been my favorite horror films of 23.
The past few years have been awesome for me horror wise.
@@picvegita I haven’t seen Talk To Me yet. I’ll watch it as soon as I can stream it.
This sounds really fascinating; I'll save it for October. #PeterPeterPumpkinBeater.
When Homelandeer walks on a horror movie Set...and LOVES IT! 😁
The cast, cinematography and creepy atmosphere were so good, the movie was firing on all cylinders. Unfortunately the ending was a bit too much off the rails, too many unanswered questions.
If they make a sequel, they could easily salvage that and turn it into a Halloween staple.
I definitely hope so.
Great review, keep it coming 😎👍
Weeeeee! ^_^ Thank you for the rec! As soon as you said "Halloween movie" I stopped before the spoilers, watched it last night. And... yeah, that's the stuff! XD *eeeeeeee!* O.O Chilling and creepy! #peterpeterpumpkinbeater
I definitely caught the Grimm Fairytale aspects of this style and loved it! They played up the New England October season beautifully to where it wandered closer to Trick 'r Treat (my favorite Halloween flick of all time). I also noticed how they stripped all the technology that you might have seen if you could place it in almost any decade after the 1970s, to where that old house was weirdly anachronistic to the rest of the world (the substitute teacher with her cell phone proves, yep, we're in the 2020s).
Interestingly, I also thought somewhat of the movie Homebound (2014) as well for comparison... although that has way more black humor and a bizarrely uplifting ending for the circumstances. XD
#peterpeterpumpkinbeater I really enjoyed this one but I thought the look of the reveal could have been scarier! Lizzy Caplan was so different to anything ive seen her in before!
Sounds like People under the Stairs.
I'll be back on or around September 1st, this one is going to be the start of my spooky season movie watching.
Back, it was great though I need to be nicer to my friends: friend I watched it with has a spider phobia. ...didn't think the cobwebs were literal!
*Spoilers below*
So sad this movie didn't get a proper release/ marketing push! I just watched it last night and had no clue it was a halloween movie, it was pleasantly surprised! Truthfully one of my favorite movies of the year I had no idea where they were going at points. Only gripe I had was the sister reveal at the end, I found her a lot more terrifying before we knew what she looked like.
#peterpeterpumpkinbeater (Beware, spoilers in comment.)
I stopped in the middle to go rent this one because I'm always down for a fairytale-esque horror. The way that the film handles trauma and how Sarah can be seen as a physical representation of what trauma does to a child was done so well. What she says to her brother at the end really hit home for what life will be like living with those memories.
On a more upbeat/weird trivia note: Holy crap, the 13 year old bully is a new Busey! I figured he was probably Jake's kid, but nope, Gary had another one.
I just watched this before getting into your spoilers section, so the movie is fresh in my mind. A few observations (major spoilers ahead):
1. Maybe it's that I only know him from The Boys but every second that Anthony Starr is on screen, he just naturally oozes ominous malevolence for me. Like Jack Nicholson in The Shining creepiness. Even at the very beginning of the movie, I wasn't buying the loving father bit.
2. The mother constantly transitioning between the two modes of either being scared to death or being the creepy horror movie protagonist was jarring. I'm sure that was the intent as to introduce a red herring to the mystery, but it didn't feel natural in its execution and took me out of the movie a bit.
3. How can the sister open and close doors without being there to do so? It's implied several times, but there's one shot at the end where the door clearly slams shut on it's own. The end reveal is that the sister is just a mutated human, not a supernatural creature. Maybe it's a nitpick but when a movie doesn't bother to follow it's own established rules it really bothers me.
4. I felt like they didn't really have a good idea how to end the movie after the home invasion scene. The whole trapping of the sister and "I'll be ba'aaaaack" cliche felt abrupt and unsatisfying.
5. Did anyone feel like the lighting was too dark, especially toward the ending? After all of that buildup, I never got a decent look at the creature design for the sister. Maybe it was just my brightness settings, I dunno.
I know it sounds like I hated this movie, but I was actually really invested till the end. The only reason I wanted to say this stuff is because I think it had a lot of potential and wished that it had lived up to the premise that the first half of the movie worked so hard to build.
A couple months IT CAME OUT IN JULY
July was a long month for me, okay! 😂
She's in the walls.... SHE'S IN THE GOD DAMN WALLS!!! AND SHE'S GOT #PETERPETERPUMPKINBEATER IN THEIR WITH HER!!!
This movie had me guessing the whole time but i loved it
#PeterPeterPumpkinBeater This sounds like "The Thing and I" from Simpsons Treehouse of Horror 7.
You keep on knocking but you can't come in you keep on knocking but you can't come in come back tomorrow night and try it again.
#Peterpeterpumpkinbeater I really need check The movie out
#peterpeterpumpkinbeater I liked this movie but it hit a little too close to home for me, and while I don't think the movie was trying to say that the parents weren't horrible or that it was excusing them, after the first half of the movie brought up a lot of feelings for me it rubbed me the wrong way that it was revealed that the parents were the only thing protecting him from the sister, like I think a lot of emotionally abused kids have heard the line "we're doing this to protect you" and it's fucking bullshit, and to have that actually be kinda true in the film felt kinda weird to me? I don't know if that makes sense but that was my initial emotional reaction to it. Also I thought that it was implied that the sister killed the little girl before they locked her up, but if it was after that sheds a different light on things so that's something to think about. Great review as always!
#PeterPeterPumpkinBeater
She's in the walls
Now death will feed her (sorry, know that was crap - cool movie, guys! Thanks for sharing)
#peterpeterpumpkinbeater. Its in the walls
#PezterPeterPumpkinEater
Is that an actual saying?
#PETERPETERPUMPKINBEATER can't we go back to the days of 90's Anime? Where spider girls just tried to seduce you?
#peterpeterpumpkinbeater
Nah look like Webstor from he-man
I really liked the movie in general UNTIL the ending sequence... that last 60ish seconds just derailed the whole movie for me. It's like here's plot, here's dialogue, here's cool stuff happening BY THE WAY HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARDS AND NOW CREDITS! Other than that? Stellar. Loved it.
#PETERPETERPUMPKINBEATER!
#peterpeterpumpkinbeater Simpsons did it first 😅
"I've been practicing! Look, I made a pigeon-rat." XD
