Not sure why Emmy needs American Idol. She’s part of country music royalty and has a beautiful voice of her own.
Because she wants to make it on her own, not on her grandmother's legacy. Thomas Rhett did nearly the same, seeing as how his dad's Rhett Akins.

It's publicity and name recognition. Why did Cassadee Pope go on 'The Voice'? She had already been a signed artist with 3 albums with her band "Hey Monday" and 1 solo album (EP). She did several tours US and world tours with her band, including the Warped Tour and opening for Fall Out Boy throughout their US and World Tour. She released her solo EP and went on a solo tour a couple months before auditioning for the 'The Voice'.
