      I think that's going to be difficult to get really good gaming performance in a single package. Look at what CPUs and GPUs draw for power. Imagine 600-1000+W in a single package. I cannot imagine what it would take to cool that.

    • @QwoaX
      @QwoaX Před 2 měsíci

      @@tclark5481 I didn't talk about that kind of performance. An 80W AMD CPU and any 200W GPU is what you would consider budget range. Well, it's the top-end of what I would consider "budget" (for latest-gen parts).
      Let's say there are no efficiency benefits having that in one compact package and round it up to 300W for good measure.
      I'm pretty sure, with the i9-14900K you can exceed that already. Also with server-CPUs of either brand, which is no issue because you have more surface area to work with there. Watts aren't the only possible the problem, often W/mm² are the bottleneck.

    • @tclark5481

    4:00 "RDNA 3.5" the performance gain only comes from the additional 4CUs and higher speed RAM. The 780m is ~15% faster than the 680m, which comes from the 2400 MHz to 2800MHz clockspeed increase. I highly doubt that there were any significant architectual improvements since the 680m.

    Certainly interested to see what the 5000 series be will be like.
    I got a 3090 when the prices finally dropped some six months before the 4000 series launch. I'm in Aus and likely would not have been able to get a 4000 series gpu for at least 3months from launch and more likely six? In price to performance even then the difference would have been marginal and with all the problems I don't believe I made a bad choice?
    Still pretty happy with it's performance, I use it mostly for VR and the games I play look pretty amazing particularly with my Beyond HMD.

    Well, 890M is 16CU vs 12CU for 780M, which is 33% more cores. But still, 40% more performance is still an improvement, especially if the rumors of massive raytracing performance boost to RDNA 3.5. Strix Halo is looking amazing with 2.5x more CU than 890M, if the performance scaling is consistent it should perform close to a 4060 desktop or a 4070 laptop. And if so, that is huge, as it will disrupt the laptop GPU market. Strix halo only has 120W TDP, which is less than a 4060 or 4070 laptop GPU that can go up to 140w. That means you can get 4070 laptop level of performance without the extra heatsink and fans in a smaller form factor.

AMDs driver level upscaling is actually really good and a lot of time I would prefer going 1728p upscaled to by AMD to 2160p as opposed to using fsr 2 quality 1440p to 2160p. I can't imagine the new tech will be better than that but certainly the more the merrier.

That is the dream, I love by Rog Ally but 25 to 40% boost in power and the fact that they got them more efficient, is going to make them last longer and allow higher settings in games . Since Snap Dragons chips will only keep up in efficiency for the next 2 years , AMD is going to be the clear winner for handhelds until Qualcomm push their next version 2 or 3 of the X elite series.

If there is ever company that can somehow come close to what Nvidia has for running AI stuff but offers VRAM at an affordable prices, I'll never get back to Nvida again! Gaming my a$$, I constantly run into CUDA out of memory for all the cool new tools but I can run most games well on a 5 years old card! @@itachi7976 You didn't have to say you want it to be worse. You're complaining that the jump is higher than previous gens which is silly. As far as prices are concerned, they aren't cheap now lmao.
      If you want cheaper, wait for RDNA 5. Nvidia runs basically without competition on the high end. They set price trends regardless of performance jumps because they have 80 percent market share. The 5090 could be only 20 percent better than the 4090, and they'd still sell it for a massive markup because they know they can.
      Outside of the 4090, and 4080 (both overpriced cards), the rest of the 4000 series was a joke price to performance wise yet people will still buy them. The 50 series actually having the performance jump to match will at least take some of the sting out of the pricing.

    Nvidia only adding 4gb vram to 5090 is like the bare minimum they could get away with after already 2 gens of 24. It's rather pathetic actually, esp. as VRAM is very cheap now. They could have easily gone for 32gb but they don't want to challenge any of their even more overpriced workstation stuff for AI. Maybe the only plus here is perhaps 4090 price will finally dip as whales resell, but I doubt that as well.
