It's probably because of china export restrictions, the 5080 can't be more powerful than the 4090 so that's for the china market but the 5090 can be as powerful as they want bc it won't be sold in china. At least that's what MLID said roughly.

Depending how they price it the 5080 might be a good deal because you essentially an "optimized" 4090 with rt uplift and gddr7 without the usual 4090 downsides of being huge and melting connectors

    Concerning Navi 48 XTX:
That's just the internal code name for the GPU. For example, Navi 21 XTX was the 6900XT and Navi 21 XT was the 6800XT. If we apply that same logic, then the full Navi 48 XTX die might be the 8800XT and the cut down XT and XL versions could be the 8700XT and base models.
Concerning RTX50 specs: I'm pretty sure they're going to undo the tier shift we got with the 40 series. So, GB205 shouldn't be anything higher than a 5070. It's more likely to be a 5060/Ti. GB207 looks like a 5050 to me or a laptop 5060.

    GB202 448-bit bus - 5090
    GB202 384-bit bus - 5080ti
    GB202 320-bit bus - 5080 (Necessary to match 4090)
    GB203 - 5070 series
    GB205 - 5060 series
    GB206 - 5050 series
    GB207 - 5040 series
Presently, nothing says that GB203 is 5080. Given the gap between GB202 and GB203 plus the monstrous size of GB202, it is most logical that the bulk of the cut down dies will be the RTX 5080. That rumor on GB202 cards having a 2 slot cooler suggests those are either the Pro cards or the 5080 cards. Look at AD102. The only model of AD102 that uses more than 300W is the 4090, which is why we haven't heard of the Professional card models not having melting connectors.
That GB207 spec is just garbage, which means it is probably too low for even the 5050 status, suggesting an ultra budget 5030/5040 GPU for budget laptops or low power cards.

I personally don't hear about anything but the 90 series since that's the one I get each generation, it's kind of interesting and a odd move if there isn't some unknown factor here as to why the less expensive cards are not more feature rich since AMD basically has given up on competing in the high end segment and is putting all of their energy into the mid-range and lower. Usually more competition makes better prices and better products not worse. To me that does support the idea that they must be getting around a purely core count model and that they're able to get performance gains by quite a bit through other means than raw core power

Yea, I don't get it - a 7800X unfortunately isn't faster (for gaming that is) then a 5800X3D as it is (it sure is at non-gaming stuff though) - why would that change?? It def wasn't disappointing for me, and was predicting it to be similar as last round. So I wasn't really worried - but I am curious to see what other things AMD are doing this round that will be different from past X3D chips. 🙂
I have a feeling Nvidia will be like in the past - to stay cramped on VRAM, not offer much new performance for series change over, and further increased pricing like the past three gens.
Of course, I'm expecting AMD to match those increased prices - at least initially, though I'm hoping AMD will continue to offer better VRAM configurations on most models. Would be nice if AMD could somehow pull off a Ryzen moment with their GPU's....
In other words, I'm expecting next gen GPU's to be mostly boring for anyone with not overly deep pockets and not purchasing the best of the best cards.
But I am curious about Intel, they've made a lot of good moves in terms of getting their drivers up to scratch - so can we get good budget and mid range cards from them? I'm not expecting Intel to make much headway into Nvidia's market share (too new in the market), but if Intel's cards are good and they continue with their current march on driver refinement, they are def going to hurt AMD at some point (never saw Intel as a threat to Nvidia, but I have always seen Intel as a serious threat to AMD's GPU market share).

Or you can buy the 5080 and then upgrade to 5080ti for $1200 each and pay about $50 per month. 🤷🏼‍♀️
If you have the money up front then the 5090 is the better deal.
That’s how it is with my 3090. It’s the only 30 series card that lastet 4 years. All the others are already either 3 years late or need to be upgraded early.
But that math changes depending on their pricing of course. But if you can get 50% more power now, and get to keep it for 4 years, that’s a better card for longer and cheaper - it’s the deal IF you have the money. If you don’t then you need to start saving $50 per month going forward lol
