Thanks for the video. I need to remove the E4OD from my '97 F-350 Dually because it needs a rebuild, and wanted to see what I was getting myself into. Seeing you do it really helped. One thing that might help other viewers: 2:55 "Something a little bigger than this bucket. . ." When draining the fluid and dropping the pan to change the trans filter on E4ODs with the truck on or close to the ground, I've had really good luck using the black plastic "mixing tub" or "all purpose tub". You can usually find them at home centers for under $10, and they are about 20" x 27" x 6" high.
How do you like the transmission jack I got the same have not used it yet ,,,,is there a vent on the trasmission, mine was leaking fluid now it’s not might have been filled to capacity however a aftermarket transmission cooler was installed thinking it’s smaller then stock ?
When you switched from 4x4 to a 2wd setup, did you switch to a complete 2wd E40D transmission or were you able to just unbolt the transfer case from the existing 4x4 trans and run a slightly longer driveshaft? I want to do the same thing to test something.
The passenger 2nd from the bottom bell house bolt was it a problem when pulling? Getting ready to pull mine and the thing is out but not removed cause the exhaust.
@@jstsend6020 Thank you...I have a 97 E350.. Couple of questions... 1. I read a write about upgrading their torque converter to the 6.0 diesel 2.. have you done a shift kit or any other improvement mods
I've been thinking about converting my '97 Dually to 6x6, but from what I've read swapping the output shaft requires disassembling almost the entire transmission to get to the snap ring that retains said output shaft. I'm about to rebuild my trans, so now would be the ideal time while I'm already in there.
@@nicholasgerman5376 If you mean the output shaft or "tailshaft", then yes you have to disassemble almost the entire transmission to get to the snap ring that holds it in. That's the shaft I think you mean, because that's the one that's different between rear wheel and 4 wheel drive transmissions.
Hey man how did you know it was the torque converter that is bad ? Because I think mine is bad my 1997 f250 7.3 started flashing the over drive and stopped
@@jstsend6020 Thank you for this. I’ve got a 97 F-450 and it’s suddenly leaking from the fly wheel inspection port. What did you find out about yours? No shifting problems for me just leaking like a stuck hog. Either the pump seal Torque converter seal or the input shaft seal because it’s obviously leaking past the bell housing to fly wheel inspection port
@@jstsend6020 If you took it to a shop could you tell me the price that they charged you I’m very mechanically friendly I’ve never taken my truck anywhere and this will be the first time I will have to contract out this issue thank you for the quick response

You would have to change the output shaft to a longer one to accommodate the 2wd extension

Just loosen it and let it sit in the hole, you cant remove the screw till the whole tranny drops

Looks like that 2ws drive trans can be converted into a 4x4 by swapping out the output shaft
Actually ended up doing that right after I removed the transmission lol

Don't you have to completely disassemble the trans to swap input shafts

I fell asleep listening to you bud.
Guy makes a helpful video and you sit there and try to spread hate your a sad human being i pity you truly
had Covid at the time bud.
Do you have to put your trans in neutral?
Pulled this in park
That rig has a transfer case?
4WD does
Thought he said it was a 4 wheel drive...?
Transfer case must be under the seat....
WAS 4wd lol converted to 2 for a couple days to test something

OD Light flashing identifies you have a transmission code! You need a special code reader to read trans codes
