Dude i respect you more than 99% of men these days this is hard work , like they say dirty hands but clean money
Top Notch Instructional Video by a Top Notch Guy!!! One of the best mechanical informationals I have seen!! Thanks hunter
Much appreciated man! Thank you
Awesome video! Thanks for being direct and not talking about what you had for breakfast and what the weather is doing. Awesome job!
I try my best. I know you people time is just as valuable as mine
Good job Hunter! One of the best DIY videos I've watched! He shows you everything without wasting a lot of time between steps. I also like that he makes a lot of comments about safety. Thank you!!
Much Appreciated Sir!
Big thanks for your DIY vid. Been tackling my 4x4 manual trans for a few days now. New flywheel, pressure plate, clutch, etc. At 60 yrs old and solo -- it's a chore, but chugging along. Your video was a big help even though some things are a little bit different on my 1996 7.3.
This is the best Video I have Found anywhere!!! I will be following step by step when I Install my Torque Converter and jump on my Rebuild. Hunter you have Saved me a lot of $$$!!
I really appreciate that. Let me know how it’s works out for you!
Good stuff man. Thanks. Helping an old guy getrdone in 2024!
At first I was like this kid hasn’t done this before but you started talking and I was like, this kid knows his stuff. Thanks for the tips and detailed descriptions!
I appreciate it man
Well done hunter, this video is perfect in every way. Extremely informative great detail to ever process I'm convinced u could get a guy that's never even seen a transmission through the big task with no problems I wish all DIY videos were this detailed
I'm 50 and about to change out the 7.3 in my 99 F250 in the summer heat in Florida. I just can't give up on the ole girl. I wanted to see where all the bell housing bolts were and it brought up your video. I hope to see more
Thank you for recording this. I used a lot of your advice this weekend to change out my son’s 4r100. We were Successful! Really appreciate it.
Glad I could help!
Where is part 2, that was a really great detailed step by step removal video!
Incredibly descriptive and informative video. Had to pull mine this weekend and this helped me get my 4r100 out without a hitch. Thanks so much
Thanks brother glad I could. Maybe I need to make some more content I’m thinking
You are awesome! This was the most comprehensive video on an 4R100 i have ever watched. Great attention to detail and love how you keep safety a priority! Thanks man!
Really appreciate that! One of the best compliments I have received. I’m glad the video helped! 👍💯
Great video, thanks for all the bolt sizes and not just wratchet jawing about other bs. Good job on handling the camera too. I know it had to be hell doing all that mostly one handed.
I appreciate it. Glad I could help!
I'll be doing this in a few days. Great video! Very informative with socket sizes, techniques and part numbers.
T_Train thanks man I tried my best answer let me know if you have any questions or run into problems
Awesome video man. On things i haven't done before i like to gather some insight to see what's ahead. Different from my typical corvette job lol.
Man glad the video could help. I agree about getting some foresight on things I ain’t done before. CZcams is a great tool.
Excellent! Fantastic camera lighting and angles. Thanks, man!
You seem to know what you're doing! My 96 F-250 has a 5.8L and is a 4x4. Your video seems close enough to what I'm going to be working on though. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
That was a great video your camera work fantastic. You really captured the scope of this job and thanks for showing every little detail.
I appreciate it man I did it with a IPhone XR
Love your style and intelligence. I wish more young men where like you! You must have had a great role model! Good luck to you.
Yeah I did. Thanks I’ll be posting more videos soon
Really good video , it has made this job for me a piece of cake. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
About to do this to my 7.3 on Saturday, wish me luck!
I got faith in you. Once you get the new trans bolted up, torque converter nuts, harness and transfer case, It’s all down hill from there.
Good Video! Looks way easier than i remember my last transmission removal with truck on the ground how you ran through this. Thumbs up!
Thanks bro! I appreciate that 🤘🏻
Thanks Hunter, very informative and well done .
Excellent job, well done, great video and you did an excellent job of explaining what, when and why of the sequence!
Appreciate it!
Thanks brother all the way from Mexico 🫡
Thank you man
Thank you man from México, this video is old but is gold.
Glad it could help brother
Good job brother I’ll be doing this in a couple of days just gotta go buy a impact and sum last bit of tools I’ll need
Thxs for this vid might have just saved me my truck blew a seal but all the shops want to replace it and I don’t have the time but I do know how to rebuild small engines (and some larger engines), but transmission on the other hand especially without a lift was worrying me
Glad I could help. Hope you get it fixed man!
Thank you for doing this video man! I need to remove transmission from my 97 f350 for the first time.
Josafat Alvarez NP man! Never done one on a OBS 7.3 but should be very similar
@@HunterStephensKY yup...if I have a problem I just gonna have to run to a mechanic haha
That’s how you get it done bro 💪🏽
Awesome video bud very well explained thank you sir
I appreciate it thank you
Thanks - keep it up man your videos are well done.
Thank you Luke I appreciate that!
Excellent video!! The best "how to" video I've watched. And I watch a lot! If I were 20 years younger I would follow it to get to my stripped starter ring gear in my 2003 F-250 race car hauler. Race cars are easier to work on. But at 77 I'm going to have to look for a shop. Any suggestions on how to pick a shop for this project?
Again, well done!
Getting errrrrr done. Nice video
Very well explained 👍
You got a new subscriber 😎
neo mansia More content soon hopefully, glad you like it!
Excellent video
Awesome video man
I think you did a good job on this video
Handled that like a real man. Frfr.
I appreciate that your awesome 😏
Great tutorial!
Great video
Thanks bud ... Very good video
Much appreciated
Did he show how to remove the top bolts on the bell housing or am I missing something?
Man thank you!! You saved me $3K!!! Instead of taking it to the shop, only thing that hurts isn’t my wallet…it’s my knuckles 🤣
Well this going to suck. Thanks for the video.
How long does it take to remove and replace transmission on 01 f350 7.3 truck brother
Great video dude thank you
Sure appreciate it sir
Where'd you buy the new transmission?
Thank you, Sir!
Your welcome!
Did you get your transmission from street Smarts
Lovely southern neighbours
Well done!
Thank -You Hunter,Great Name ,my Sons middle name, I gotta say Buddy!!! Great vid. Best of health to you and your LOVED ONES, in these wild/crazy/uncertain times . peace and happiness to you..... Bust a Knuckle
Glad you liked it ✊🏻
where did he buy it
Excellent!
Thanks for this very detailed step by step video. It really gave me confidence to remove my transmission. I also couldn't find any videos showing how to remove the wiring harness connections on top of the transmission and somehow you got your camera close enough and explained enough for me to see how to remove without breaking them. I really appreciate the amount of time you put into it... having tried to edit a few of my own videos...it really takes time so I thank you. Also, the underside of my truck was not nearly as clean. Did you power wash and degrease the undercarriage?
I appreciate the feedback and glad I could help. Also no pressure washing but I used to take it through creeks often lol
94.5-97 psd has a E4OD, E99 ( basically 98)- 03 has a 4R100 great video though 👌🏻
THAT_1999_7.3 ___ thanks for the input 👍🏼
You got mad skills bro, what happens to part 2? I found this video because I’m r/r a torque shift 6 on f550 diesel and I was looking for tips on how to flush the cooler and lines and tips on an install
Michael balderas thanks bro means a lot! I changed the filter again a few months after and been trucking ever sense
Wrap it up! Always a good idea!
Lucky bastard lol I'm putting a torque converter in my 5.4 4r100 and I'm in WNY. What a pain
4x4?
@@HunterStephensKY yes
@@johnconner3901 that transfer case is fun ain’t it lmao
So you really didn't need to remove the transfercase or starter then?
Very good video! Great detail and know how!
Have you ever had a torque converter seize up? Is so how did you remove the flex plate bolts?
My 99 f-350 7.3 4x4 engine acts like the engine is locked up but I think it’s the torque
Your thoughts?
Never had TC seize up, also ain’t saying it cant happen. However for a 4r100 or E40D. I’d still follow what I did in this video and technically it’s studs and nuts. 4 for gas and 6 for diesel.
If you want bolts work on a 4l60e
Never hurts to change your fuel filter once a year, And change your oil atleast every 5k. It’s hard to say without seeing it in person man.
I'm in the middle of this, started today. Replacing the flex plate. Do I need to take the transfer case off and completely remove the transmisson, or just slide it back all together ?
Yes the only way to replace the Flex plate is to unbolt the bell housing bolts to engine block bolt x6 external. Along with 6 torque converter nuts internally that attach your converter to your flex plate (diesel) 4 on a gas.
Is that the transmission you just replaced? Did you take it out just to service/inspect it? Curious, good vid
Dmitri Freyman it was a replacement
how did you get the tcase shifter linkage removed?
It was electric it doesn’t have one
thanks!
Looks like your new transmission came packed well, where did you get it from??
Monster Transmission but they had a Contract with Moveras at the time for the “QuickShip 4r100” but hard to beat a Nice used FoMoCo from a grandpas special. Just my opinion.
Awesome video man, I can tell you know your shit.
Great great
The best
What happened with transmission? You just installed rebuild transmission and again? What is going on?
Tany Kolisnyk yeah nobody builds better transmissions than FoMoCo fuck Monster Transmissions. I’m work on getting a Zf6 Manual or going to Cummins 5.9 with NV4500 Drive Train
What size are those bell housing bolts?
I wanna say I used a 3/4 or 19mm getting them out, I know the two bolts on top are shorter than the ones on the sides.
Does the transfer case have to be removed?
Yes
How long (time) does that job take between 2 guys ?
Honestly depends on the two guys. I did it in one full day. But can’t go wrong if you focus and have patience
Hunter! Im about to put a transmission in my 2003 super duty! F350 7.3.. I heard I was supposed to have my transmission calibrated to my diesel motor after I put the transmission in my truck is that true?.. please! respond thank you!! Sir..
No sir. On some trucks there might be something like that, but not on a 7.3L Super Duty. All you gotta do is line up your MLPS to “N” with the truck in Neutral after install. Cock the wheels.
No sir. Not on a 7.3L Super Duty. All you gotta do is line up the MLPS on the side of the trans to “N” while the trucks In neutral and tight the two bolts back down. Clock the wheels.
@@HunterStephensKY thank you!! Hunter apparently my "mechanic" is trying to make more money off of me.. I will keep watching your video to make sure I do everything right! Because I can't afford to pay him $8,000 to install a transmission in my truck! .. you were a big help thank you very much!!...
Молодец
About how long did this take you?
One Full Day
I’m stuck I have the goddam thing out but I can’t get it straightly mounted on the Pittsburg tranny Jack. I will figure it out today….
I’m about to make a video specifically for you cause I’ve improved on my methods and had the same issue
Wait you already put a monster in? What happened 🤔
Chris Jablonski Yeah I did and it lost everything after 3rd I did abuse the hell out of it but they did send me another warranty trans and it’s been fine ever sense
I can’t budge those 6 bolt for the life of me !!
Bell housing bolts?
@@HunterStephensKY I couldn’t undo the transfer case to transmission bolts I got them off those heat and Perseverance
I had to use the double wrench trick and a swivel on a impact. The top one was a bitch so I lowered the whole drive train to get to it.
@@HunterStephensKY I didn’t the same lowered the trans the top came out Easier I also had to remove the adapter extension is was cracked pretty badly so I’m replacing that too got one with a shaft remove replace
Do you work at Ford? I see you wearing a Ford uaw t-shirt
Not anymore I worked at Kentucky Truck Plant for 2 and a half years. Now I’m a diesel mechanic at a distribution center Teamster local 89
Looks like you’re removing a new trans….what gives?
Not bad for a rookie DIY’er, I’ve been turning wrenches for 20+ years and still do some of the things you do in my driveway when not at the shop. Safety is ALWAYS more important than any repair job in even the worst circumstances, but quality and accuracy is key to a reliable repair. Torque wrench’s are cheap these days and there’s no excuse for German torque excuses or jokes except for fools that think they have any skill or pride in their repair with “Good-N-Tight” as a measure of torque. Hence the reason why many people break down from sheared bolts while rock crawling or other 4X4 events, as well as the guys that sling U-Joint parts while try to launch at a drag strip. “Good-N-Tight” wasn’t tight enough, Obviously!
First good video to a point, safety doesn’t mean vehicle on undeveloped surface, rear tires on sender blocks wood and metal ramp in grass digging into the ground. Couple sheets of 3/4” 4X8’ plywood one front and rear two pair of harbor freight 3-Ton or 6-Ton jack stands and on a more level surface would be much safer and much more trustworthy. Safety isn’t safety if every considerable thought isn’t given to possible bodily injury or death by ignorance, no offense.
Second good job on the parts descriptions and wrench turning for a DIY’er, good techniques and unless I missed it which maybe I did. Only watched this video and not others so I maybe missed why swapping what appears to be a rebuilt tranny? Key points to remember as a DIY’er, you break it replace it NO ZIP TIES for bracketry “dipstick tube”. Wooden blocks are never safe, not in a driveway, field nor ever for working under the vehicle weight of several thousand pounds that can and will kill you if given the chance to do so.
Third torque all drive train, frame crossmember and rotating component bolts/nuts. Anything other than that you deserve what happens if bolts back out. Locktite is not the rule it’s in addition to the rule, the rule is to torque the aforementioned bolts/nuts. Inspect any plastic linkage bushings and replace if any signs of ware or damage are found no exceptions. Always use proper OEM recommended or equivalent fluids in all drivetrain components, NO EXCEPTIONS.
Last but CERTAINLY not the least store brand garbage fluids are for fools that believe foolish advertising and have no real understanding of the component and the fluids the depend on. Also, don’t think that exorbitantly priced hyped up fluids are the way to go either, save that for the upper class of foolish that really believe those are better. Stay in the middle and go from there not the cheapest and certainly not the most expensive but, modestly priced and good quality fluids are the best and proven to be the most reliable.
That 4r100 is a heavy arse transmission thats like wrestling an anconda under a truck on the ground. 😂
Shoot man I’m scared of snakes lmao
