- Back in the shop for a transmission removal. Today's episode of working on stuff at the shop we have a 92 Ford f350 with a 460 gasoline engine with a E4OD transmission. During our diagnosis we found a leaking front pump seal as well as a lot of metal in the pan. The whole purpose of this video was to aid in the removal of the transmission. Hopefully in the near future we will have the links below to the tools shown in this video. Thank you for watching.

You may never read this but I just wanted to express my everlasting gratitude, I just used this video as a guide to pull the trans on my 96 f150 4wd, took a bit longer because I did it in the backyard on jackstands but I digress.
Great job. Every step explained and well documented. I can't believe you didn't have to remove the exhaust.
Thankfully nope
Love your videos. Hope there's a part 2. 👍👍
We're working on it 😉
one of the best vids out on the ford E4OD, thank you.
Absolutely
Thanks for the great video. I used to be a professional mechanic (2004-2005) and am in the process of removing the e4 from my 97 F250/4wd/460 truck. Last trans I r/r’d was like 5 years ago so it’s nice to get a video reference from a wrench to confirm I’ve got it where I want it before the pry bar comes out.
Awesome video sir. I like the R&R videos as much as the tear down videos. Thanks for the help earlier.
Anytime
Man this is a great vid.thank you
Thanks for that we try to keep it fun and informational
tons of info! Thank you! I wonder if the switch can contribute to stalling when put in reverse or low, or perhaps harness
I love how you don’t wear gloves!
Make it look easy. Good stuff!
Thank you
Thanks Bro!
Absolutely
Now when reinstalling does the cooler lines need to be blead
Bench video coming?? Awesome video David!
It's in the works 😉
Where can I get starter bolts for a 94 f 250? Bottom bolt was missing and top bolt snapped on me. Thanks in advance
Do you have a video of a e4od transmission tear down?
What size bolts hold the manual lever
Why nobody shows when they unbolt the case from the engine?
How would you recommend to take off the linkage for the neutral switch if the linkage connection is behind the switch? Replacing one for the first time on a 1991 f250 xlt lariat 4x4 with the E40D transmission and manual lock hubs for 4wd
Unfortunately that's a drop the pan and pull the roll pin scenario
@@expressautotransmissiondav4207 thank you for responding, i was very confused how to take that off
Yeah that early style arm.is kinda a pain lol but it's so able
@@expressautotransmissiondav4207 it wasn't a roll pin, it was a rod with a 21 mm nut on it, with just enough room for a wrench. At least im replacing it and not overhauling it.
Wish I could get you to change my flexplate 😅
Bring it on lol
I know virtually nothing about transmissions but with your help I dropped my e40d out of my 93 bronco and I have one out of a 94 bronco BUT the wiring harness does not attack to the inputs on the transmission they’re the same prongs just a little different what should I do. Other than that exact same transmission
If your talking about the neutral safety switch replacevit and update the harness as well
I read online that I could replace all wiring. OR I can replace the solenoid pack in the newer transmission and put in the older one so it will work with the current electronics in my bronco. Can you verify this ?
Nice extension,1/2 inch drive?
Yep if you would like we could do a link to the tools I use
4L60e give away...seal kit is same many years...bushing kit same as many years...gaskets can be different.. clutches are same .
Pistions are the same.
Many valves in pump are same and pump parts I have 1995 and 2005 ..60e
I'd be in good shape...that the only tranny that I understand
I do not earn one Penny in Automotive it is my hobby
Is that trans stock ? I thought C-6 until 96.
It is stock and some applications did use the c6 till 96.
What does a guy do if he broke the connector?
Which one?
@@expressautotransmissiondav4207 both for the harness
Both can be ordered from the dealer.
@@expressautotransmissiondav4207 how are they replaced though?
I remove fluid first
Probably just needed a new front seal (less than $10) and reassembly but I'm afraid the owner of that truck now has a trans that's worth more than the truck. That customer deserved to at least be kissed while getting screwed.
Well you’re definitely wrong. It’s got a 460 big block that out pulls the 7.3 IDI basically and I just sold it for 4500.😂😉 transmission only costed me 1500. Keep mouthing tho.
@@maxiomaxiom6169 That 1992 brown 2-door pickup with a drooping front bumper and cloudy headlight brought $4500??? Well I guess the buyer just got screwed and you got lucky. Maybe you ought to buy a lotto ticket. BTW, I just replaced that same seal and shockingly it was only $5 (+ tax) at my local Ford dealership. (Made in Mexico, while the made in America rear seal was $11.67) So you could've saved much of that $1500, but then it's understandable that some people are incapable of removing a transmission so they're stuck deciding whether it's worth the investment. In your case it worked out.
@@annettesurfer in all honesty yes. But he told me the transmission burnt up, because I drove it an hour and a half and it ran out of fluid. Tried filling back up, got some gears back but it was toast. Hence why he says the fluid smells burnt. Plus I wanted it upgraded because E4od’s are notoriously shitty.
Why so sassy Steve. These obs ford's are "in" right now. It's crazy how much people are paying for em. Makes me sad everytime I look at my wrecked one on the drive way. Plus I just miss my truck.
I love how you don’t wear gloves!
