- Me, the old man and Randy pulled the trans on his old powerstroke ford today. The front pump seal went out and it was time for an overhaul anyway. This isnt a tutorial really, just more or less a vlog of the event. Thought I would share with you guys, hope you enjoy !

The best of all the ford diesels yet today. Lots of them go the distance, mine went with no trouble eight hundred thousand miles. It was a standard but my brother swore by the automatics and did more miles than mine... regular oil changes and did all the filters if he had time on his hand any in between

*the 7.3 is a good overall truck and i like this body style better than any other ford design yet. Stacy David Show was called "Overhauling" saw a couple episodes but i've always been more of a powerblock guy.mostly because they film that show just a few miles from me in Franklin TN*

Getting ready to do my 94' F250 tomorrow. Was gonna start today until I figured out I needed a T45 Torx that I did not have for the rear drive shaft bolts. Will do the rear main seal while I am at it. I will be doing this solo, so I anticipate about 3-4 hours to pull the trans.

How did you remove the and install the torque converter bolts?
It's the big o-ring that leaks on all Ford front pumps! When I worked in a Ford dealer, often would do at least two to three a week because of that o-ring. It does look like a bad trans cooler, or something let water into the fluid. Thats awesome when a job you think is going to be a pain, turns out easy. Looks like a nice truck.
mmhm, trans is going to go in for a full overhaul while its out. No point in half assing something this far in. The engine is a replacement from an ambulance! And runs like a top. Now to beef up the trans to match
The truck is totally worth it. Put a big trans cooler for trailer towing on it, the cooler you can keep the trans, the longer it will last. Hope you make a video of it running down the road, after it's finished. Keep up the great videos.

wonder what that coolant in the engine looks like. if the trans has coolant in it bet the motor has trans oil in it. then you need to flush it out and change all the rubber. OMG a lot of work there.

theres a easy way to tell a 6 liter from a a 7 liter ford diesel . just look in the back of the bed or cab for coolant bottles . thats how you know a 6 liter from a 7 liter lol

That really does look like the trans coolers busted and that's probably what killed the transmission. Better pressure test the radiator and make sure
Im almost positive thats what happened. We will check the system, and most likely add a separate trans cooler when we reinstall the trans
I like to leave the stock cooler on them if i can, you don't want the temp to fluctuate too much and that's why they use the coolers in the radiator

Oh dear, that's the big end for that transmission. Mixing trans fluid and coolant is a very bad thing. Whoever came up with the idea of building the trans cooler into the bottom of the radiator should be taken out, soundly beaten and then shot. That set up has ruined a lot of good transmissions over the years. A separate trans cooler is always a better idea...
This trans is going to get a full overhaul, and I think we are going to go back with a separate trans cooler when we put it all back together !
