Nike is back at it yet again!
With Eliud Kipchoge backing this new design, more hype and controversy surround these shoes than any other shoe in the world. Along with the Nike Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT%, Nike unveiled their new Trainers the Tempo Next% and the Tempo Next % FlyEase. Also, the new Nike Viperfly (spikes) are out to change the game of the 100 Meters.
What are your thoughts on these new shoes? - Sport
0:19 Oh shit Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next% can’t hear us it has AirPods in
Lol
Mike Hawk why is nobody laughing about this comment? Great one mate!😂😂

I was waiting for someone to say that!

It’s like people disregard the fact that even with the shoes, you still have to be an elite athlete.
That's racism bra
@@ObeseGorilla229 I'm shocked as well
100% agree.
And they probably don't train in them until the last month or so to get used to them for the comp. All that foam on the ass is basically forcing a runner to have bad form and heel strike. When you see how he runs, he's still landing like he's barefoot, landing on his forefoot and whipping straight back with a crazy rate. Not heel strike rolling like they've been designed for.
The shoes don't mean shit here, he's just that good. Put them on some random person and say goodbye to their knees within a couple months.
@@thedodsonful elite athletes also take peds, if you believe Olympics athletes are natural you're just delusional

As long as everybody has access to the shoes I say legalize them.
I agree, for us amateur athletes; it's still purely unfair for record holdings though.
joseppi4cinqua that’s the problem only Nike athletes have them
Mike S who had them doesn’t concern me. If everybody has access to them then it’s fair game.
@Oricand they're at the Olympic games ffs everybody got money
legalize, tax, and regulate them
There has not been technological innovation in the sneaker world for so long, and when someone takes a step forward they wanna ban it lmao
Yeah, like just give the same new shoes to all athletes, and the problem is solved like wtf
Xan Hede That would put all other shoe companies out of business.
the market for these kind of sneakers must be like the 1% of total sales, only the elite runners would buy them so i don't think any company will go out of business because the preference of the 1%
First time? Rotary engines got banned in Le Mans after being used just once lol
Haha step forward
I love how nike responding with a new shoe in just 4 days
The spikes look awesome, don’t really like the colors but idea in calling them viperflys is genius
I would totally rock those spikes just looking at them I can tell they're gonna feel so fast and probably perform so as well
Although they do need to be able to withstand the force a sprinter puts into the ground if they have a problem with those airpods itd be to do with that more than anything
Byron McKenzie zoom is definitely strong enough to withstand the force a sprinter puts in it
@@y-rokenjnr6157 I agree about the colour. I will be waiting for future colourways.
@@y-rokenjnr6157 I would think the airpods dissipate the force and the runner loses power.

because they're from Nike and they may bring additional comfort and performance to the wearer. If these were released by a no name shoe manufacturer, people might think they're for disabled people. Think Seinfeld's Kramer wearing the Jimmy Training Shoes.
@@BOTzerker jepp, couldn't have said it any better. The branding is so strong that by now nike can get away with any design. I personally don't like the design either.
Nike just told the whole running community to clock out for break.
I don't understand the whole controversy. It just sounds like the competition is being salty that Nike is too good at designing shoes. Also, calling anything in the shoe a "propulsion system" at is blatantly misleading. The shoes are providing ZERO propulsion and it's still all coming from the athlete. That should really be the only regulation, that shoes can't generate their own propulsion. It's not Nike's fault that everyone else can't keep up.
@@wuhanclan facts man
@@wuhanclan I agree. Seems to me that a "propulsion system" would have to add propellant energy to the object being propelled in order be considered a propulsion system. In this case, no external energy is being added to that provided by the runner. The term that I really despise is "mechanical doping." That's a blatantly dishonest smear.
@@wuhanclan That guy is an amazing athlete. I believe he can run in chuck Taylors and win it.
@@randyevermore9323 gotta admit though, "mechanical doping" sounds like a fire alternative rock band
To put things into perspective I trained for 2 years straight in high school. 5 miles a day average and my time for the mile was 4:41 seconds and I literally threw up after that race...... this guy can do that for 26 miles 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

A genius marketing campaign for odd looking shoes advertised to the masses that will never run a marathon competitively. Good job, Nike!
I agree with you, these are definitely for the 1st and 2nd row at the startline.....however with the new rules everyone can get them "at the same time".......
They’re all over at track meets now for events as low as the 1000
I have never ran a marathon either, but one of my favourite shoes was the Nike Air Zoom Marathoner. I wish they would bring them out again.
You don't even need these shoes if you're running competitively. If you go on runs with friends all the time then getting these shoes will make you the star of your running group.
Agree. I don't even run but I just wanna get dem
Great update and explanation. I'm not a big Nike fan, but I'll take my hat off to them for taking a big step ahead of others. I agree that we need technology to continue, but it needs to be fair for all, so having a rule book to design to will help. Interesting times.
If the runners all chose to wear these, that dude would still have won, they chose to wear what suited themselves, weak moan from the other runners.
dijitaljun yeah and with the argument that says that the other business would die, we live in North America and we have something called “free market” lol
@@ghostendgame fair argument, I'm done thinking about other people's feet, who would have won then? just for old times sake...
@@ghostendgame considering he has won every marathon major in the last 7 years, it's pretty safe to assume he would have won.
Ghost EndGame you guys do know that Kipchoge’s sub 2 hour wasn’t a race right? It was built for Kipchoge to break 2 hours specifically, and I’m pretty sure Kipchoge helped design the shoe
@@yendis902 yah and he had multiple pace setters that would switch out during the "race" and they would run in front of him to break the wind resistance.

Can they run it in the new Alphafly Next% ?
It's so easy to add little wheels with a diameter less than 40mm so that runners can have a little rest as they break world records in the future.

Great video! The background beat goes hard af too lmao
6:02 It should be pointed out that all of the shoes in this frame (apart from said Tempo Next%s feature carbon fiber plates!)
So just to be clear, Nike presented 5 shoes, 3 of them with carbon fiber plates:
Track Spikes:
Nike Air Zoom Victory (800m - 10,000m, Carbon fiber plate)
Nike Air Zoom Viperfly (100m, Carbon fiber plate)
Training:
Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT%
Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT% FlyEase
Marathon:
Nike Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT% (real shit)
Yes this video is very wrong alphaflys were under development with 1 carbon fibre plate for a long time not just since the ban and nike said viperflys have 3 plates and were working towards reducing it to 2 to make it legal as you are allowed 2 plates as one of the plates ia used for attaching the spikes and the tempo shoes are illegal because their stack height is too high but they are not trying to make them legal as they are not meant for races they are meant for training.
Nicholas Fogale I agree that a 1 plate Alphafly has been in development for a long time (and there has never been confirmation that kipchoges prototype had 3 plates(!!!)) but something that definitely doesn’t have 3 plates is the Viperfly! There is no way more than one can fit in that thing and they have designed it specifically for the use in competition (so why would they put in 3 plates and make it illegal?)
@@nicholasfogale6835 You are right and this video is wrong and the channel has lost credibility because of this
@@ReXzz they do have 3 plates they are currently illegal nike said so at the release
ReXzz which one would you suggest for my police physical test of 800m, should I buy the spike version or should I buy alphafly?
Keep in mind these regulations currently only apply to “elite/ pro athletes” in World Athletics sanctioned events, so this does not mean everyone else can’t continue to wear the banned shoes in a race
It means that by being banned they aren't gonna be available/produced......duhhhh.....
For Nike probably, but there’s NOTHING preventing shoe manufactures from continuing to make shoes available to the masses that don’t comply with those regulations
Wow! I;ve been away from the running world for some time now and wasn't aware of this new shoes. Without trying them on I can tell this makes is massive difference. I used to run middle distances and it was difficult to find a good running shoe that could take the punishment of a 10k for example. I might need to try this new Nikes!

I am excited to hear the news. We are entering sub 2:00:00 world.
In swimming they had a similar issue with the Tech Suits they band a good amount of them in 2010.
Whats the name of the music starting from 2:27 its dope.
Tell me pls
I am a swimmer and it's funny how this is pretty much what 2008/9 happened with the supersuits. They completely dominated the sport and Fina band them. This is a much more elegant solution. It's not a bad thing if the gear evolves with the athlete. Regulations are important but this is how to do it let room for improvements but don't let it get to absurd.
I can't wait to racing a pair of these shoes! I have now owned and raced in the original 4%'s, and the next percents! each shoe has been considerably different than the other and I think considerably better than the other so hopefully Nike continues on this trend. I don't think they're too controversial because if they're available to the majority of runners than I think that would negate any like unfairness to them.
To be honest AFTER watching this video now with the perspective of the specs coming out now to view, I guess Eliud was able to run even under 1:58, he just didn't want to over do it......that does not take anything away from his GREATNESS....as you said right person at the right time chosen by NIKE (and INEOS) !!!!

Of course it's not the shoes entirely. But they definitely helped. This is a man who ran his entire life and chose those specifically to make history for a reason.
The shoes are straight fire can’t wait to run in them

I'm definently getting some when I can afford them.
plot twist: nike made the coronavirus in order to delay the olympics so their shoe can be used
The shoes are fantastic in every way! I’m glad Nike is making a concerted effort to produce performance running shoes again. I feel that they lost their way for almost a decade after the Nike Free and minimialist craze. The Bowerman series was the last great line of shoes Nike made in the early and mid 2000s. I know the vapor fly line are very different but I’m reminded of the 2003 Nike Zoom Spiridon. A performance trainer that could be used as a racer! The shoe was highly engineered in my book. It was light, responsive and provided good cushioning. I’d love to see these make a comeback!
Great video

Nike trying their hardest to please the WAF and follow the marked availability standards to make it in the Olympics.....

The forefoot Air Zoom pods are the same kind you can find in the Nike LeBron shoes (basketball).
I'm not surprised they found their way into the running shoes given the athlete like LeBron whose size/mass can attest to the durability of the cushioning strength.
Jim Peters was the first man to run a marathon in under 2 hours 20 minutes. He did it wearing a pair of plimsolls (or pumps) he bought at Woolworths.
Andrew Spencer I'd like to see today's athletes run in pumps to see what their times would be.

not only runnig shoes around now, but also racing shoes. what a time to be alive!
The corruption is so obvious at this point, and there’s no stopping it.
-Nike owns the WA/IAAF
-Nike has patented the ability for a shoe to have a curved plate, meaning no level of innovation from other shoes companies will ever match these. Research has shown that a strongly curved plate is essential for the energy return provided by carbon-fiber-plated shoes.
imapieface yeah but it doesn’t matter because they should be legalized anyways so if everyone can get them then it doesn’t matter
Ben Archie You literally just pointed out why they shouldn’t be legal.
-First off, “They should be legal anyways”!? That’s just an opinion, heavily favoring Nike at that. But that’s okay, I don’t mind that. Just remember: when they make the rules, it can get unethical.
-Not everyone can get them. End of story. If you’re sponsored by Saucony, Brooks, HOKA, New Balance, Sketchers, Adidas, etc., you cannot have this shoe, nor can those companies ever design a shoe to match because of Nike’s patents. Nike has legally rigged this Olympic cycle for their athletes.
@@benarchie6024 no, bcz todays athleats would have an enormous advantage over older ones, even as little as 5yrs ago and WR's and other times would become obsolete
Rogoznica FC yeah but eventually is everyone is wearing the same shoes then it’s the same competition. Sure it would make obsolete old world records but so would normally beating them
Ben Archie I see you won’t respond. Again, only a specific group of athletes has access to the shoes, and further, the technology in them. Nike leveraged their power in the IAAF/WA and combined it with patents To make sure no one else can compete.
So you find best runner, pay him to wear your shoes and when he breaks the record you say its because of the shoes. Of course it helps but Eliud would be best runner in Asics or Mizuno too.
Zoran Dimitrijevic i agree
As a plodder of many years, with elite days long behind me.... I swear by Boost. Even more than the Nike Zoomx Pegsus or others. Looking forward to getting my hands of some with plates and see how I fair. So far I have had the pleasure of donning the great Reebok GL6000, The Nike Air revolution, then came Asics Gel. Always keep an open mind. But the last 6 years are boost boost baby. On trail, at altitude, over long distance, or short 3 mile blast. Pegasus Turbo Zoom X does not come close, get the plated shoes on the market and lets get trying.
That dude running around n the marathon looks so comfortable in those sneakers. I want a pair
Kipchoge should show everyone up by rerunning it in flip flops.
Erik Sharar no athlete will ever do that ruin feet and back
E M it was just a joke. 🙂
he'd probably win, and the whole world would say he cheated cs his flipflops had no carbon fiber in them or something
He has run marathons with broken shoes already
I don’t understand, if everyone can have the shoe, then why should it be banned from events.
Athletes sponsored by other shoe brands couldn’t use them in races
Athletes cant use them to compete and break records, but sure you can still use them if you want
It’s not that any individual shoe is banned. It’s just that they see a need to set a standard somewhere, anywhere really. Without a standard, runners could use stilts, prosthetics, 5 inch thick shoes, etc. eventually this becomes less of a sport about the human ability and more a competition about technology. Obviously you would need to be a world class athlete in the first place. But take a look at formula 1, an extreme example. The top three teams consistently win the races and championships. Not because they have the best drivers (debatable) but because they pour millions into researching and developing the best cars. (In racing, car development has always been part of the competition, and isn’t inherently bad (also debatable). I think most will agree that athletic competitions should be a measure based primarily on a humans physical ability.)
They could have set the rule at 40mm and 3 carbon fiber plates, but chose 40mm and 1 plate. Hence some shoes were don’t make the cut (‘‘banned’’) and some do make the cut.
Well the idea is that the carbonfiber plate provides extra energy in your step, which means you are now using mechanical advantage rather than raw human ability. Which is the spirit of competition. Everyone CAN use them but using them defeats the idea of raw talent being the cause of victory
dustin ropp it doesn’t really add any ‘extra’ energy to the system. It stores energy from the foot strike and releases it during the end of the stride. Most running shoes absorb energy into the EVA foam, but the foam doesn’t spring back until it is in the air. Energy is stored and released. Nothing ‘extra’
There are plenty of ‘normal’ shoes on the market that already do this. Mizunos, hokas, etc.
"Thirty nine point five" that's cheese tho🤣🤣🤣🤣 Nike Alpha Glitch😂
This is innovation and shouldn't be stopped!
Do these shoes really dramatically improve your running? Asking as a casual runner, not training for any events or anything.
I’m a 45 minute 10k-er. That is I’m past my prime and not fast. I have run a local hilly road 10k 5 years out of 6, in recent years.
This January I ran it in Nike Next% (not the version with the AirPad and multiple carbon fibre inserts, an earlier version). I took 80 seconds off my previous best time for that race, felt better at the end and recovered faster.
In previous years I had improved my time by between 3 and 30 seconds from year to year. It could be the placebo effect, it could be that training the same programme as previous years somehow accumulated and worked out better this year, but I think the shoes must take some of the credit for that 80 seconds improvement!
George Row
I improved my 5K time by 3 minutes In some discontinued Saucony shoes I bought for $50. Placebo effect is the correct word you used. After all, you have to justify the money you spent as everyone who does the same thing.
they seem like they're doing everything to get these shoes off the track! lmao
Will the original alphafly with the 3 carbon plates still be available in the market? I'm still interested in purchasing one.
Let’s see how ASICS and adidas and the other big companies will react. Hola has already two models with a carbon plate, mizuno always had wave plates and Newton had those lugs. Adidas has had a big advantage with the boost material, but they have not come up with a rigid plate that propels the runner forward. Topo has also one shoe with a plate.
