    • @xxbeatuupzz
      @xxbeatuupzz Před 3 lety +655

      Saying that is like saying the landspeed record was broken by the driver, not the car. Yes the Kipchoge was probably the only one who could do it, but he couldn't have done it without the shoe. I've heard that the shoe gives you a 4% advantage over other shoes (which, over a 2 hour race, is around 5 minutes; quite a lot, considering the record was broken by a lot less than that)

    • @tavasp
      @tavasp Před 3 lety +247

      Ghost Bandit no. Because it that scenario the car is what is moving and doing the work. It think it actually the opposite. The shoes are like the driver. Better driver means car go faster, but at the end of the day it comes to runner

    • @xxbeatuupzz
      @xxbeatuupzz Před 3 lety +106

      @@tavasp really I'm trying to say that the success is a team effort. Yes Kipchoge was likely the only person who could have broken the record, but Kipchoge wouldn't have been able to do it without the shoes. To me, a runner's shoes are like a formula 1 driver's car. The best driver in the world can't beat an average driver in the best car if they use a Ford focus. And an average driver in the best F1 car won't win if the best driver is using a formula 1 car as well. But it takes the best driver (in terms of long distance running,, Kipchoge) in the best car (the shoes) to reach and surpass the record.

    • @tavasp
      @tavasp Před 3 lety +46

      Ghost Bandit yeah but the analogies don’t work for the same reason I said. The car is the the thing actually moving and doing the work.

    OK, 2 things……the fibres in the zoom air unit prevent the airbag from “ballooning” and keep the desired shape and low profile. When they use to call it tensile air they were using 40psi and the bags would inflate like a ball, they came up with fibres inside to hold the airbag to the desired shape and profile they wanted, tensile air became zoom air.
    Next, if the shoes wear quickly (as expensive as they are) just run in them until you wear them out, snap the carbon fibre plate and call nike for a warranty replacement, Nike will warranty a shoe for 2 years from the date of manufacturing so they will replace the shoe (several times in fact), so there’s that if you wanna get “value” for your money.

    I myself am a runner and have been running with Nike technology for a couple years. I have done lots of research on these shoes and basically the Vaporfly save at least 4% of your energy and returns your energy forward. I believe that Zack didn't run that much faster purely because of the shoes. It could've been the adrenaline he got because of them plus the comfort and returned energy. Also, it's no surprise he ran that much faster especially that he ran his last three mile time trial in Addidas

      I’m a pretty average runner (I run about a 1:50 half marathon) and I can tell you these shoes make a huge difference. The first time I wore them I just went for a standard run and it actually felt like my Garmin watch was reporting the wrong times per km. The second time I wore them I got a PB half marathon by a few minutes. I can pretty much guarantee that any runner is going to run better in carbon fibre shoes then standard shoes.

      Lamp Pole obviously I’m not gonna demand a 20 minute 5k from a 11 year old or something, so age plays a factor, but for a guy age 16-30 I’d want at least that ( sub 20 ) maybe sub 19 tbh

      @stefanurquidi1492 Před 3 lety +9

      Lamp Pole that being said I know stuff happens, so for me it’s really not about the 5k time, but when I hear the term “runner” I’d think of someone who is running/ training everyday, and who has some competitive racing experience. It’s not because I have anything against people who don’t have these qualities, it’s just the results from someone who isn’t running consistently would be far too inconsistent to come to a real conclusion, the guy in the video has run a couple 5ks, but since he’s not training everyday and he hasn’t already been in racing shape for a long time, who’s to say if it’s the shoes or he’s simply become more fit, there’s no way to prove that his jump in speed was attributed to the shoes

    Ahh as a sneakerhead it hurts to see them cut the Zoom Units like that, so the Zoom Air Tech acts like "Springs", when he said he felt bouncy its because of the Zoom pods in the front portion of the shoe, as you step/land on it, it responds and releases the force back up, if you hold the shoe up and squeeze the zoom unit you'll see the spring action. But since they cut the top of the zoom pod, they pretty much sliced the whole pod.
