I'm still trying to understand why the vast majority of regular runners (like myself) buy those shoes. They are expensive af for daily trainers, and don't give an advantage on a race day unless you are really, really fast. With all that, I still want to try them one day :)

I’m a regular runner 1 hour 55 half marathoner and there really is a difference running in these I was lucky enough to grab myself a pair they are so stable and fast honestly if you can get a pair do it you won’t regret it

@@harrypalmer3853, so about 5:25 min/km (8:50 min/mile)? I don't run half as a competition (I like struggling and running full ones only), but my best time on the distance is 2:07:18. I remember reading some research that these shoes do help a bunch, but only to really fast runners. And I think GTN did a video on it too. Interesting to hear your experience :) Maybe I will treat myself to a pair of those for my upcoming Ironman

They are light, they are smooth and they are stable. I loved the AF V2, but felt it was too bulky and too heavy towards the end of the marathon. The laces are now almost 100% straight on V3, instead of the slanted design, which works much better with the Stryd footpod and the air port. They are not as poppy as the V1 in my session testing, but I also suffered in the V1 in the last 5km of the marathon due to calves that just weren't up to the task with the 4mm drop. I never experienced any arch issues in any version of the AF.

  • @TheHutchRuns
    @TheHutchRuns Před 4 měsíci +3

Very impressed with the AF3, didn't buy the AF2 due to the arch issues that everyone was going on about but felt nothing major with the AF3. The grip, for a racing shoe is phenomenal and the best I've had on any carbon plated race shoe. I personally don't like the VF3 and keep going back to my VF2 or the Hoka Rocket X2 for the shorter stuff but feel the AF3 will be 10 miles and up from now on. Great video Ben, have a look at the matching socks from SHYU...😉

The Mizuno really is quite weird. I definitely agree I couldn’t run a half or full in it. There used to be zero stability and I found once I started to get tired I was all over the place and bad ankle pain. Once my form starts to break down it has no support at all. I love my AF1 and 2’s. They are brilliant at supporting you when getting tired. Looking forward to getting the 3’s.

Hi Ben, nice review! I was watching your previous videos and I've realized that when you did the same test "a while ago", using the Streakfly, Vaporfly and Alphafly v.1 you covered the last 5K in 17m:34s. I test a lot of carbon plated shoes (PEBA based) at the running track (feel free to watch my videos), to understand how much (in terms of time) a pair of running shoes takes to cover 5x1k with 2 min rest. Before spending £300 (to purchase a pair of AF3), do you reckon these shoes are really faster than AF1? Kindly, let me know.

I bought the Alpha v2 in January, and used them only twice at race pace. What's weird is that I only had blisters on my left foot. I presumed it was my gate, but when I look inside, the placement of the insole is different between the two. My main race is April for the Zurich marathon and I don't feel I can risk using them. The good side, I knocked 5 and a half mins off my half marathon time, and other than going all out for the last section, I don't think I'd have been gassed by the end had I squandered 30s or so. Amazing shoe, still happy I bought them, but very disappointed I won't wear them race day.

The ride was slightly firmer in v2 compared to v1.. and v1 had a 4mm drop.. then v2 and v3 have a 8mm drop, so that will feel quite different as you will feel propelled forward a bit more. Thank you for the hat order! :-)

I don't think that there should be more supply when we talk about a prototype color way. The whole idea of prototypes is to be limited and now when they are launching it in the middle of winter, it's perfect timing for limited supply. They build up hype for the real launch in February or March. The question is whether they will then have enough pairs or not. Vaporfly 4%s and the first Next%s, namely green and pink disappeared quickly but since then Nike has been able to produce a lot of pairs.

Do you need to run a certain pace to justify this shoe? I am relatively new to running and will be in my first marathon in February and goal is Sub 4:00:00(nothing to brag about, I know). No plans to get this for that marathon but I was thinking future marathon, for comfort and effort with speed, will it help maintain a pace to help improve my times or only for elite runners going for sub 2:40 marathons?

Don't bother with carbon plate shoes if you aren't running at least sub 3:30 marathons.

If it helps, I saw Steve Cram (Nike ambassador) giving a talk at the national running show. He held an Alphafly 2 in the air and say “if you aren’t running a sub 35 minute 10k… then these shoes are a waste of money for you…”

Yeeeaaahhhh, don't think I am close to 35 10K quite yet haha. Thanks!

just to add to my first comment: a shoe with zoomx foam is still worth the money, they are much more comfortable. but a carbon plate makes no sense at this speed.
i’d recommend the invincible or the pegasus turbo

I know, I had a pair that I loved, but the outsole torn apart right behind the pods after 130km. I returned them and bought the Vaporfly 2 at the time.
However, it seems that Nike is not going to release a V2 of that model, unfortunately (for me, at least, because although it gets so much hate, during those 130km, it was super fast and I loved every minute of running in it).@@i.p2088

The price I can’t justify end of the day 150 is more than enough for a pair of runners plus these shoes are for elite runners only at that price not the runner with all the gear but no idea I was. 15mins for 5k back in the day but still wouldn’t pay that kinda money for shoes

Title: A Critical Analysis of the Disappointing Performance: A Running Shoe Review
    Introduction:
As an avid runner and enthusiast, I recently stumbled upon a highly praised running shoe review video that claimed to showcase the epitome of athletic footwear. Eager to enhance my running experience, I eagerly dove into the content, only to find myself grappling with disappointment and frustration as I delved deeper into the intricacies of the shoe's performance. This essay aims to critically analyze the shortcomings that, in my opinion, overshadow any positive attributes highlighted in the review.
    Comfort and Fit:
One of the key factors that any runner prioritizes when choosing a pair of running shoes is comfort. Unfortunately, the shoe in question fell short in this critical aspect. The video emphasized the plush cushioning and ergonomic design, but my personal experience contradicted these claims. The insole, touted for its superior support, proved to be lacking in the necessary cushioning for extended runs, leaving me with sore feet and blisters.
Furthermore, the promised optimal fit was a far cry from reality. Despite the video's assurance of a snug and secure fit, the shoe failed to provide the necessary stability during lateral movements. This lack of support not only compromised my running performance but also raised concerns about the shoe's potential to cause injuries over time.
    Durability and Build Quality:
A running shoe that cannot withstand the rigors of regular use is, in essence, a failed investment. The video highlighted the shoe's durable construction and high-quality materials, yet my experience suggested otherwise. After a mere few weeks of consistent use, the outsole began to show signs of premature wear and tear, casting doubt on the longevity of the product.
Moreover, the upper mesh, purportedly designed for breathability and flexibility, proved to be more flimsy than functional. Instead of offering proper ventilation, the material retained moisture, leading to discomfort and an unpleasant odor after each run. This oversight in build quality raises questions about the manufacturer's commitment to delivering a reliable product.
    Performance on Different Terrains:
A high-performance running shoe should excel on various terrains to cater to the diverse needs of runners. Unfortunately, the shoe showcased in the video struggled to deliver consistent results across different surfaces. While it performed adequately on well-maintained tracks, its traction and grip faltered on uneven or slippery terrain, jeopardizing my safety and diminishing my confidence in the shoe's capabilities.
    Conclusion:
In conclusion, the running shoe reviewed in the video failed to live up to the expectations set by the enthusiastic review. The promises of comfort, durability, and versatile performance were overshadowed by the harsh reality of subpar design and functionality. As consumers, it is essential to approach such reviews with a critical eye and consider a range of perspectives before investing in a product that claims to revolutionize the running experience. My hope is that future reviews take a more balanced approach, shedding light on both the positive and negative aspects to guide potential buyers towards informed decisions.
