Wonderful video! I'm a 'come-back-to-Dorico' user (as I wasn't so sure of making 'the switch' a few short years ago). But now, a couple of short years later, the evolution of Dorico is amazing. I've been watching a lot of your videos and they're all so well done and extremely helpful. I'm only half way through this particular video, and I've learned so much. You're way of 'thinking' about how to use Dorico from a composer/arrangers viewpoint has totally done away with any previous misconceptions I may have had about how to really best use Dorico from a composer/arrangers mindset. Truly a game-changer! And, now that I'm also using the iPad Pro version of Dorico, being able to use a portable app that doesn't make you learn a whole new way of thinking makes for a truly useful method of 'staying in the flow'. OK....another coffee and back to the rest of this video!........thank you for all your great work!

Superb video - I've barely scratched the surface with Dorico, and this has been a real eye opener. Composing for concert band this year - far bigger than any ensemble I've written for in the past - and Dorico's going to be an absolute boon!

An incredibly useful video, even for reasonably competent users of Dorico. A great refresher plus learnt lots of stuff I'd overlooked.

BRAVO! The genie has been freed from the bottle with DORICO pro 4.2. Truly, I've been waiting since the 1980's for live score notation software like this. Plus exporting MIDI files created in ABLETON to DORICO is now possible!

Why importing midi from Ableton to Dorico was not possible before ?

@@Semtex777 I have only recently download DORICO pro. Previously I only had Staffpad as my notation method which has quite a different method inputting music notes.

Brilliant, John! Thank you for making these sessions. They are very practical and really helped a lot to get started using Dorico get some fluency and speed in the process of working on scores. Now, after 5 years with Finale and more than 15 years with Sibelius I can already see so many advantages in my new munitions :)

Thank you John for your composition skills using Dorico. Everything you taught was very useful. I would like to recommend that when presenting that you would slow down a bit. You teach a skill every 10 seconds which is pretty impressive for your obvious virtuoso understanding of the program. For those of us that are trying to learn, slowing down the pace a bit and repeating examples/skills would be helpful. I certainly have booked marked this informative video for reference.

Sorry about that. There are options in CZcams to slow a video (or speed it up!) while watching. If I slow down I either have to show less or it makes an even longer video - and I get excited!

Brilliant. I like to organise all my sketch flows into different layouts. Each layout contains only the flows dedicated to the development of that idea. In effect, each layout (with a meaningful title) becomes a sketchbook for those ideas. It's very neat because if you want to develop an idea further without losing the original, all you have to do is duplicate the flow (John Barron mentions this) and make sure it only appears in that one layout (there are ways and means of doing this on the fly) . If you then make sure your sketch layout has 'Allow on Existing Page' checked in Layout Options, that layout will really will look like a sketchpad full of those ideas, some of them just scraps, with all the attendant advantages of seeing them at a glance. Further, if you turn on flow headings 'For all flows', you can give each flow a descriptive comment which documents the development of the idea as you go along. (aside - I was thinking making a video to demonstrate this. Hmm - not sure...)

How can I insert dynamics or hairpins in places of slurred notes? It seems to not be looking at the grid but at the actual note start points.

I think you mean tied notes? This may help: blog.dorico.com/2019/11/tip-add-dynamics-in-the-middle-of-tied-notes/

    Hello,
I have Dorico 4 elements and Halion sonic 3 se I also have Halion sonic 3.
Now my question is can I transfer Halion sonic 3 the content to Halion sonic 3 se so that I can use those instruments there.
And if so, how to install it.
Everyone says this and the other says that.
Don't come out on your own

    • @dorico
      @dorico  Před 2 lety

You should find that the content you have in HALion Sonic 3 will appear in Dorico anyway. There is also a HALion Sonic option that appears in the VST rack by default in Dorico. Contact support (from your MySteinberg account) if you have further questions and they can give you the detail.
