  • Today we'll be looking over what's new in Dorico 5. I've switched over to Dorico from other notation softwares since 2020 and haven't looked back. I'm excited that the Dorico team have done it again and made it even better than before. You'll get to see my top 7 favorite features and some honorable mentions.

Thanks Krzysztof. Hope you found it helpful on whether it's worth upgrading or not.

Excellent manner and presentation. I would use a louder volume on your playbacks to better hear what you are describing. I would appreciate that. Your studio is very attractive and your presentation skill is highly admirable. I'm not a Dorico convert yet but you inched me closer. I will subscribe to you channel.

Thank you Marshall. I will keep that in mind! Yes, I'd say use what you know but if you're feeling adventurous or not happy with the notation software that you're using, Dorico is a fantastic choice. There are some fundamental paradigm shifts when learning the program, but after you get used to it, it operates more like a word processor than any of the other notation softwares I've used (years of using Finale & Sibelius).

thanks for the overview. I’m presuming the Live Stages function will not work with the new Note Performer 5 stuff (since NP utilizes it’s own separate mixer?)

I am not sure how that integrates with Note Performer 5. You're probably right if they utilitize their own mixer.

I like the scrub feature but am wondering if Dorico has something like my DAW (Digital Performer) has: I can highlight notes and press a key command and DP will play back those notes in the sequence's tempo. Would be great if Dorico could do the same.

Thank you. Great review. How is the cpu performing comparing to dorico 4?

It seems roughly the same. In their version history PDF, they do state that certain functions like "reset playback override" is much more responsive.

I can’t see these new features in the iPad version? Does the iOS version have these new features? I can’t find live stage. I’m getting the feeling none of these new features are in the iOS version. I bought the app, so not using the free version and feeling shortchanged right now.

I think you're missing the word "back" from your video description.. "haven't looked back" would make more sense.

Yes, thank you for the correction. Fixed it to read correctly now.
