Having owned a 991 for 4 years and now owning an even lower 718 Spyder, I wouldn't pay for front axle lift. I never once rubbed the 911. The Spyder has a few minor rubs on the under side that are not visible unless you are under the car. Importantly, do NOT get the front lip painted and, especially, don't get it in carbon fiber. The standard plastic front lip is designed to be replaceable and is not expensive if you really smack it on something. Plus, search the cost to repair those front axle lift systems out of warranty. I would view it as a negative option and would pay less for a used 911 that had it.
Which 991 model did you have? How do you like the spy set compared to it?
@@free_electron108 I had a 991.1 C2S coupe (manual). The engines feel very similar, which I expected given the similar displacement and power. The Spyder is more direct across all inputs though and it feels smaller (even though it’s not that much smaller). Both are great sports cars though.
Agreed - not needed unless you have a unique situation, like a steep driveway.
100% agree. I had a 991 Carrera T and currently have a 718 GT4. No axle lift on either. No problems. I’ve scraped the underside of the GT4 plastic lip. But who cares, it’s not visible at all.
Thanks for helpful info buddy!
There are many car testers on YT. But MotoManTV is in first place for me, serious, informative, no clowning around. I'm also impressed that he can formulate such well-founded reports even while driving. Chapeau - and greetings from Germany
The best 992 Carrera T review thus far, danke MM. Your understanding and appreciation for Porsche is just head and shoulders above the rest. For example, you are the only one who appreciates front axle lift and a sunroof. Please keep reviewing and I’ll keep watching!
Thank you for the kind feedback . . . And yes, my pleasure!
FAL and sunroof are the anthesis of the T. You’re probably the kind of special that would add full leather and 18-ways. Congratulations, you had the chance to spec something that would have been special and the lightest 992 made, but instead you went and chose a run of the mill chonky 992 with an appearance package.
@@joeracer302jeez.
Who cares. I promise if you add back seats, 18-ways, a sunroof, and rear steer, it will still be an amazing 3-pedal sports car experience.
A simple tune adds 100 horsepower to these things. Crazy.
What's crazy about that? It's a 3.0 twin-turbo which is heavily detuned as standard (whether it's 380hp or actually 420hp, it's very little for a 3.0 turbocharged engine). With a typical 2.0 turbo making 330hp, then a 3.0 should be around 495hp as stock shouldn't it? 🙂
@@TassieLorenzo Totally agree. I test drove the 2022 911GTS, ended up with a 2023 911T (tuned it) no exhaust yet (still stock). With a stage 1 tune, WHP is 495. I'll likely get an exhaust upgrade down the road and that will still be $40K less than a GTS model. Too bad you can no longer buy a 992.1 T, the window was short and now closed and they don't make a 992.2 911 T.
Love your vivid reviews where I can really see how this machine can be driven.. I have already arranged for a meeting with my local dealer. Thanks.
This was great. Super informative as well as nicely filmed and edited. Plus - kudos for being able to narrate cogently and fluently whilst pedalling along that quickly. Not easy. I've a T on order and I can't wait as I missed the last one.
very very very good review. the best one I've seen so far. I'm going to go on that waitlist for my first porsche (18 months they said...) and your review answered all my questions. Thank you.
My pleasure . . . and good choice!
Big fan of MM. This would be a great/fun toy, provided you order the car as described by MM. Porsche FTW! His videos always having me pining for more! Short, but straight to the point! The only auto journalist who pronounces Burmester correctly, lol! Cheers mate/B
Thanks for the great feedback, Ben!
Great review and I subscribed.
Any idea how much weight front axle lift adds?
Great review, thanks.
Excited for this! Just got an allocation (only one month on waiting list) for June build and hopefully an Atlanta (Porsche Experience) delivery. (Ironically Cayman GTSs and other models are still apparently 12-18 month waits.) It's Gentian Blue (optional metallic color) with standard interior (allows you to go with red seat belts and still has the Sport Seats Plus with grey checkered sport-tex, as the T interior's grey stitching and pinstriped cloth doesn't contrast that much). Got the body color overlays in the interior, 21-gallon extended gas tank, side decal delete, electric folding mirrors, heated steering wheel and ambient lighting. And that's it, less than $3500 in options including the PEC Atlanta delivery. Not paying $5000-7000 for leather, $3000+ for "special colors" (and $11,000 plus for paint-to-sample, which you need to get the Gulfblau color of the test car), or another x,xxx dollars for deviated stitching or the aerokit or color-matched keys or Burmester stereo or sunroof which raises the center-of-gravity along with undoing much of the weight savings. If you start optioning all that stuff in, you might as well get an S model. You can even option nothing if you want, and still get the same car being tested, which is a real deal in the bizarro pricing world that is the 992-generation Carrera.
Did you pay anything above MSRP?
@@user-mj5tn8sx8f. No, paid MSRP. Been using the same dealer for 15 years. In the past though, it would have 7-8% off.
You are totally right about the front lifter 👍🏻
Great video! Any chance you could tell us which PTS blue that is? Hard to argue against the sunroof, but the carbon roof would look pretty sweet w/that color/wheels/mirror caps.
It is Gulf Blue, but PTS orders are already full for 2023.
Hello Nick, would you know if the 992 with pdk has an electronic limited slip diff, and/or PTV. The manual has a mechanical slip diff and PTV. Why would this not be on the pdk pls? Thank you.
I own a '22 base carrera. I would like the diff and rear axle steer but beyond that I'd go with the base car. The base engine is a detuned version of the GTS motor, so they will take lots of extra boost. I'm in the process of getting an APR tune in the next couple of weeks.
I’m in the exact same spot, 22 base but would love the manual and extra handling options
but you can't get the base with a stick :/
@@gky3019 I bought a cayman t…my wife isn’t thrilled having both a 911 and a cayman taking up both garage spots…😜
Well done!
Heck yeah, enjoy!
That color is fantastic 😍
I have a T on order as well as a Lotus Emira. Will decide which one to keep once they arrive. As for the power, I had a '17 S at 420HP and it is too much power to enjoy. That is why I am going with a T. You can use the manual more and actually enjoy driving. Cars are way too overpowered now to enjoy and use.
Well said. If my Carrera T had more power I'd be robbed of the pleasure of shifting the car on the manual transmission. Where's the fun in that?
420hp too much lmfao
@@CaptCanuck4444 if it had more power youd shift more, not sure i understand that argument
@@user-vd8tr6kz1qNot true, the more powerful the car the longer the gears. In a 400+ hp manual transmission car it’s hard to get out of 2nd gear driving around the city without dangerously exceeding the speed limit.
@@CaptCanuck4444 interesting. Something like a porsche gt4 is known for gears being too long and people mod the tranny cuz of that and its only 400hp...
Your absolutely brilliant!
I am totally confused about how do the adjustable engine mounts "totally transform the car". Anybody can explain ? The difference between engine mount settings is probably miniscule to most drivers.
Interesting..the one option not mentioned is rear axle steer, which I'd take anyway over a sunroof.
The US$144,000 quoted in the episode for 'my' build does indeed include the rear axle steer . . . which I believe should be mandatory in 992s.
Lightweight glass and less soundproofing makes this very attractive.
I was raised with a variety of Porsches. My father's first was a 1969 (1970?) 911. I was laughing when you mentioned Porsche should include the axle lift. I agree completely, but as my dad would say when optioning his cars, "Porsche wouldn't give you the sweat off of their balls"...LOL!
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!...
That colour is stunning.
Beautiful car... did you film in the Malibu area?
What PTS color is this? Beautiful!
Around the 5:30 mark you mention the 991.2 having a mechanical LSD and the 992 doesn't'. I understand the T and up on the 992 get LSD as standard: e-diff for the PDK and mechanical diffs with the manual (in conjunction with that brake pinching PTV thing not available on the base carrera) Am I mistaken?
Beautiful, nice color too!
The way you built yours MM is the way I’d build mine, except I’d probably go carbon fiber roof over the sunroof just to keep the weight down. I really want one of these but I’m already hearing that Porsche dealers are going to massively mark these up and you have to already have been a customer with them to get an allocation for one. It almost sounds like they’re making you jump through the same hoops as they would for a GT car allocation.
Wow that is sad to hear about the mark up and the way they are treating allocation. Also, I would definitely go your way as well, carbon fiber roof and no sunroof. IMO the hard tops should all be sunroof delete unless it is a targa.
The 1 option this absolutly needs (imo)
is the GTS frontbumper !
the stock bumper is sooo hidiously square
otherwise one of the best reviews i've seen so far on the T ^^
Can’t argue with you about the Sport front fascia . . . Drastic aesthetic difference

@@lunytrickz I think that 379 hp is more than enough for fun driving and track days. 500 brings lot of collateral issues from reliability to driveability to overall balance and enjoyment. Furthermore to properly manage that power you need additional hardware who increases weight and so on. About the ducktail i completely agree, that's gorgeous and classy, a ''must have'' in my opinion!
You are damn good at your job. Thanks for the review; still enjoying your targa 4s suggestion.
My pleasure . . . and congrats on the Targa!

Love the gulf blue paint job 😊
What PTS color is this, Gulf Blue?
I totally agree, this car is literally all about the value, it is literally a 911 GTS for about $50k less and for that you give up 100 hp, you can tell this is pure esscence of sporty 911 for the least price possible, and it should be kept at a low price, because the whole point is you won't go for the Carrera S because to fit these options to the Carrera S would be prohibitively expensive so yeah, purely a value option :)
Does it get the Carera S brakes though? Cause that would perfect
Where is that road please?
The car looks great. (that road looks fun). Thanks and Happy Holidays.
what road is this ?
good porsche 911 with 379 hp you dont need stronger coupe with manual gearbox nice video and review.
Just get a 997.2 GTS in manual.
How awesome would this be with the 4.0 liter from the GT4?
Or how about no turbo to make it a traditional styled 911.
What color blue is that? I can’t find the order code. Thank you!
Should be Gulf Blue and it‘s a special color
Bose isn't available on base and T due to supply constaints, unfortunately
How many kg would I save, if you could keep the stereo out?
The stereo comes from the back .... at least it would with a Mezger engine.
Does anybody know that specific color? It is too light for Riviera blue. Is it Laguna blue?
I think it's Olympic Blue, a heritage colour from the 70s (914). Uber rare, I have a 981 Boxster in the same PTS shade and it pops beautifully with black wheels and trimmings.
Gulf Blue. 👌
@motoman, is this car a PTS color? What color is this?
Yes, a PTS color: Gulf Blue.
Excellent review! Totally correct in your comments on the stereo system and the front end lift. Even the Bose system is criminally bad for a car in this price range. I know many will holler "It's a spots car! Your supposed to be listening to the exhaust!" I think that's less and less the case in the base model and even the S type as these cars increasing become dual role cars as both a sports car and a touring car. Love your channel!
+1 .. Agreed.. Atrocious is the word I'd use to discribe Porsche audio offerings. .. Sans the fidelity of the Burmeister @ $5K USD.
What's going on with the video quality
It's 4k but looks like low bitrate
Who changed out the side marker lights for the clear EU ones?
I did. Piece of cake and so much nicer looking
The car featured in this episode is a German market vehicle. It was flown over for the launch event and is now back in Stuttgart.
Motorman, don’t forget the ADM on your price list!!
I have my order in and am waiting on an allocation! First on my dealers list, been waiting since 2019 for this model!!! It will compliment my 718 Boxster T perfectly in the garage!!!
Same here. 1st on wait list. Python Green is my color for sure…
Same in my town too. Irish green on mine though
Love it (and I'd have it because of the manual), but shaving ~120 lbs isn't exactly "lightweight." The car's still significantly north of 3000 lbs.
And they somwhat cheat on that weight savings, because the 992 Carrera doesn't have a manual available (though the 991.2 Carrera did). That's where most of the weight savings is.
You didn't mention rw steer option
Good review Motoman. 👍
Please collab with the Smoking Tire, they reviewed the same car in green and came to the same conclusion.👌
Please trade-in your LC for the one you optioned online. You're more excited about this one!! 😁
This is all the Porsche horsepower I need!! 💙 Sunroof and all red interior required. 😉❤️
Is FAL really necessary? The PASM doesn’t seem to make the car that low where you’re needing to opt for FAL
This is the model I hope to get one day. Note you can't get the exterior paint color on the inside if you order a paint-to-sample color, at least not on the US configurator. That's is one reason why this expensive build you've driven doesn't have that. I agree that would be a nice option. Also, I doubt the Burmester would sound that great in this relatively loud 911, with its reduced sound-deadening material and thinner glass.
Why would you want to have cheap plastic pieces as the interior trim?
@@T4xEvader cause the whole point of this car is to be cheaper than a gt3 or gts. Too many options will ruin that price point
@@tbaloni you pay more for cheap plastic pieces than you do taking the standard trim
Beautiful car. I like that baby blue.
I wonder if a tune would be worth doing.
I built one online (metallic dark blue, added rear seats back in, folding side mirrors, no-cost deletion of the sticker on the door)…..total cost $119,260. Realistically, one could probably buy that car, drive it for 3 years and sell it for $95k (or more).
Anyone that adds in the rear seats doesnt deserve a spec. Would you like to add the pdk and the glass roof option as well with a PTS barbie pink? 🤡
@@T4xEvader right - the option of putting a kid in the back = lack of masculinity. Moronic conclusion. The weight addition for the seats is negligible. The availability of a rwd entry 911 with a proper manual is what would be the right spec for me.
@@stms4411 no its just stupid and tasteless. When there is a limited amount produced, you spec the common porsche (base or the S) in your shitty spec.
@@T4xEvader you’re an idiot. When the car is what I want AND I can option seats that won’t affect the driving experience one iota….I do it. I think I’ll sleep soundly knowing you disapprove.
@@stms4411 just spec a shitty base Carrera or go ruin a new m3 spec
Where can you find one?
Where can you find one without dealer markups!
meanwhile the Cayman GTS 4.0 has a manual transmission, 400hp, and is nearly another 200lbs lighter.
My thoughts exactly. But the reality is the 911 is and will always be "the" Porsche, no matter how good and how fast they make the Boxster or Cayman, and no matter how sweet the 4.0 flat 6 sounds in a GTS or GT4. (Porsche's getting the last laugh anyway given GT4 RS's are going for similar money to GT3 Tourings these days thanks to the dealers.)
I had a 987 S for 11 years and wanted to replace it with a 992 base. I just could not get comfortable in it, the seats made my back hurt. OTOH, the 18-ways in the GTS 4.0 are just perfect.🙂
Nice color
Love it! You're ripping up that road and talking like no big deal.
Nobody does that better than Motoman! Right next to the cliffs! 😬😯😁
While a manual is fun, the PDK allows 2 hands on the wheel when zipping around the twisty bits. Plus it’s quicker!
this is why you’ll only get to spec a boxter. Lets keep it that way
PDK is boring …
Can you not spec the decals?
The options game not inside the hanger? R u feeling well? 😂
It's been getting increasingly harder to shoot inside the hangar due to the noise of an active airport so wanted to try something new.
Good review but I would point out that you seriously do not need front axle lift. You just don't. Says he who has 15,000 miles on a manual 992 S with sports suspension and no FAL.
How much clearance do you get on that front lip? I think silly to spend $2770 on it and find out you don't really need it. Plus I would be keen to know how much additional weight it adds to the car!
@@giveyouashot sorry no idea what the actual clearance is. To be clear you do scrape it a little but the lip is designed to be replaced, is cheap, you can’t actually see the odd scrape (they’re underneath), and is a very easy job to swap out. Plus even with FAL you’re likely to scrape it occasionally so same outcome. In 15,000 miles I’ve replaced one lip and that was because I hit a piece of tire on the freeway.
Really depends on one’s driveway, mine sucks.
i am not a fan of sport-tex material on the seats which you can't get rid of with T, other than that base T is really good value with chrono and PASM. I would opt for a base carrera with minimal options (no stitching no PTS) to lower to cost as much as possible cose its a great value for money drivers car.
You can. You can add seat heating and ventilation and you get full leather seats automatically . They may look nicer but beware these seats are on the firm side. i personally think, that the sport tex seat offer more comfort and are more functional as well.
If you do this right you can have a very special car with all the performance options, and a unique interior for under 130k
My old 991.2 Carrera T was probably the best daily I've ever had. The engine just didn't have that character of the GT3 engines, but sometimes the suspension with the GT3's is too much of a commitment for a daily. In general though imo the T is a great package. Lightweight glass...meh sometimes you need a rear defroster.
The new one’s lightweight glass has rear defrosting now!
Very nice Color ! What is it ?
Gulf blue
Hey Motoman, 2024 gets the Bose!!
I have the 991.2 Carrera T in manual transmission as a summertime daily driver, and haven't once wished for more power. The perfect every day sports car IMO.
Moto- Compared to your LC500?
The 68-73 911T were the last carburetor 911.
I don’t believe their was a Carrera T in 1968-1973. There was a 911 T but it did not have the Carrera name. Besides the Carrera RS the 911 didn’t use the Carrera name until 1984 when it replaced the outgoing 911 SC model. I might be wrong but I think that’s correct.
so a regular carrera for people who want a manual?
With a light tune you easily add 100hp. It's the same engine as in the GTS, just a different tune.
The T is an interesting proposition, but yeah, you gotta be really careful with the options because before you know you'll be stepping on GTS toes.
Also, kudos to Porsche for not sending you one with black wheels.
Excellent work, like always, M.
My contact at Porsche knows what Kumo likes:)
CZcams just decided I needed to watch this again….anyway, the price increase on these is really unfortunate. The one I built is 144k. Back in 2018, dealerships couldn’t give the 991.2 T’s away, creating some massive discounts. It’s too bad Carreras have gotten so expensive. $144k could get you a GTS back in 991.2 days!
Love it. Why do they call it the “T”? Because it always shows up, right before "U".
So... @MotoManTV This car is my jam. Ive always wanted a 911. But.... I can afford a GR Corolla. In terms of driving experience how do the 2 compare? I know they are not comparable in real life but for "grins and giggles" please humor me!
Why even bother? You’re talking about two different solar systems.
@@donwarner6925 Perhaps. I am hoping that I can get the experience I am craving at something more in line with my budget. The 911 is still on my list but until it is attainable for me I need to look for something that will help satisfy the driving desire.
VERY hard to compare to the two but here's a stab at it. The GR Corolla would be to the Corolla line up that that GT3 is to the 992 line up. The GR Corolla Morizo would be to the Corolla line up that the GT3 RS would be to the 992 line up.

That huge LCD panel with giant candy-colored icons right above the manual shifter, right in the center of the dash : This is supposed to be a 'driver-focused' car? It looks like something you need to keep your 4-year old distracted while driving to and from the grocery store.
No, it ain’t “huge” by any stretch of imagination, saw the size of it in Tesla?
It can be "blacked out".
Now, if only Porsche could actually make cars!
Painted interior trims is a hit or miss really... I had it ticked in my first 718. It made everything looks cheap to be honest.. Not sure if it's better on 992 911.
Painted trim is the ONLY option on a T. It's either gloss black or whatever your exterior color is. Some colors work better than others, I think Chalk or GT Silver would be fine.
Look at the bottom of the front lip of any porsche with front axle lift- you will find the same scratches as many non- lift car - often even worse damage on the lift car. Why? Because non- lift drivers learn to go in and out of driveways as a habit sideways and not straight on. And the same with speed bumps. One front wheel at a time and SLOWLY! Guys with the lift don’t religiously deal with exiting and entering driveways properly to avoid damage. Only takes forgetting that lift button and ouch you have scraping. Or once over a speed bump. Or with the lift a really bad angle driveway taken straight on. I have a Targa 4, GTS and GT4 and no lift- no problems if you drive the cars properly. I even have my wife trained also! And trust me your wife is not going to hit that button every single time.
When they have a lift system that “sees” speed bumps, or a driveway situation or even an object on the road and lifts automatically that would be perfect. Or how about a lift system that you turn on and it always lifts the car at less than 3 miles an hour? Why not have the car front lifted always at low speed? The lift can give you a false sense of protection. If you have a horrible driveway at home than the programming that gps location would be helpful for sure.
That’ll be blue then! 😳
My only question is can it hold a set of golf clubs?
Welcome back to enthusiast driving, Motoman, welcome back. 😁
VERY good to be back:)
I need this in my life 😍
I just wish they had a more reasonably priced naturally aspirated version and not some super duper model that is a collectors item.
I would go less power manual than more power with dual clutch.
I configured one online also, with carbon roof & front axel-lift and it came out way less than yours ($128k).......T is about value and lightweight, that's why Miata's are a popular choice for track days, right?
Miata is a light weight sports vehicle but it is not in the same performance space as a Porsche. If Mazda were to take the Miata platform and use it to build a performance package they could probably build a rival to the 911 at half the price.
@@bighands69 I meant to say different products for different audiences. Carrera T and the Miata both carry the same mission, just in different pricing brackets. Mazda is a small company, I doubt they have the resources to produce as many variants of the Miata, as Porsche does with the 911's.
The Porsche brochures state that it has a locking diff…. so it PTV being delivered by a diff - mechanical or otherwise - or via individual braking on wheels? Also in different markets different options. You can't get an S here with a manual. So your choices are T or GTS (or GT3). Comparable specs put the GTS at 60K AUD more than the T and the main differences is more power and bigger brakes. The suspension in the T borrows the helper springs and other tricks from the GTS that the S does not have.
Specing this with the sports design kit to look like a GTS and adding in front axle lift and rear wheel steer. Leave out leather and sunroofs as they defeat the purpose and add weight and you are getting a car near identical to a stripped out GTS for 60K AUD less.
AND you get the stripped out sound insulation and thin glass that a GTS doesn't have so you get the sound and light feel from the door panels as well as a result. At least in the Aus market and coming from a 981 Spyder, the 992 T is the one to get if you can't get or want to pay for a GT3. Which is only 20K AUD more than a GTS anyway. Bose is standard in Aus too as is the light weight battery.
Given that the internet is international it may make sense to preface statements about facts as "depending on your region" as Porsche with their many options doesn't equip stuff the same all around the world.
