Episode 3 was utter dogsh*t. It added exactly sweet FA to the story, was a needless pander to the alphabet mafia and if the gender had been reversed would have come across extremely exploitative and pushing rapey vibes.
15:30 "Krafton had invested more than 160 dollars into the game" you know what I am absolutely ready to believe that
Came here looking for exactly this 😂
He's technically correct, as they did invest more than 160 dollars. A lot more, yeah, but more is more.
Still 160 too much but at least they got off easy^^
Can't wait to hear the "oops" next week for this one =P
was gonna comment this exactly
I love that Skill Up accidentally says $160 instead of $160 million at 15:30 because that seems to suggest that The Callisto Protocol has sold less than 10 copies worldwide.
I came straight to the comments after hearing that. I guess you could say "more than 160 dollars" and it would have been technically correct.
@@michaellochlann4797 pretty sure it isn't
I mean $160 million AUD is the same as $160 USD
I know RimmyDownUnder streamed this game, with friends watching to judge whether or not they should by it, only until the refund limit on Steam. Then he refunded it.
So that's 1, several, hundreds of potential sales gone.
I bet that's what's happened a lot actually; Callisto Protocol is just one of those games you can know for certain you don't want to buy full price in < 2 hours.
bahaha I came straight to the comments when I heard this too. this is my favorite.
"playing other games" and "going outside" still send shivers down my spine
I still get crippling anxiety whenever I recall that phrase on the back of my bottlecap telling me to basically touch grass
Try Warframe :)
these videos are partly the reason why I enjoy youtube so much nowadays. They're just a chill vibe with a lot of heart and personality put into them. They have lots of humor and I enjoy them a lot. this week in video games has become one of my favorite things to look forward to
The Day Before is like when people keep asking the teacher for extensions to the deadline of their project, finding the silliest types of excuses.
This is genuinely what I thought when I found out everything 💀 It's just hilarious
The weird thing is it just looks like The Division 2 with all the enemies taken out.
"my dog stole my trademark, for real!"
October release update... Sorry guys we had a bring your dog to work day... and one of the dogs ate the source code... so yeah we have to start from scratch..."
This and many other games on steam are vaporware. They exist to drum up interest and get people to wishlist. They'll start to stand out when you begin noticing them. They are the games that look very pretty, only have footage of people moving slowly through beautiful environments and very "crafted" gameplay, such as tailored encounters or exciting action that feels very deliberate. I wish I could find it, but there's a reason these games want to get as many people wishlisting them. It might be for monetization of their other channels and stuff, or to draw in investors
The Day Before drama has given me more entertainment than the game ever could have.
Best part is the drama was free
have you see the games their publisher have published, man if this game ever comes to life going to be a shovelware
Sort of like that one last year. Abandoned? I can't remember the name, but that one everyone thought might be another secret Kojima game
Typical russians :)
does anyone know if Atomic Hearth is heading towards the same direction?
Genuinely look forward to this every week, haven't missed an episode since the show started.
Literally was just thinking how much I wanted to watch This Week In Video Games and bam here it is. Thanks ShillUp.
The Day Before devs be like “my dog ate my video game”
I laughed
Dog is purchased a year after homework is assigned
They had a flat tire, but they're on foot.
The bridge was open, but there's no canals or rivers.
The dog also ate most of their website, it seems.
😂
15:30 damn, if they made Callisto Protocol on a $160 budget, that explains a lot
over $160.. Technically he's not wrong, he's just using Price is Right rules.
Talking about ballooning video game budgets...
Truly they will never financially recover from this.
It's mostly because of the expensive actors
Damn you beat me to it ahhaha
Impressive graphics for the price point though
Damn is it good to be back, I look forward to these every week! Keep up to good work Skillup!
A lot more views than your armor mitigation and vendor rest videos from div 1 days. I don't think I ever thank you enough for getting me through 1.3(the dark days). So glad to see all your success over the years!
“Drugs are good” - Skill Up 2023

"Put on the gimp mask." - Skull Up 2023
Nice covert Diablo quote at end of video. Yes, I do want to “stay while, and listen.” Notification bell dinged. :)
"Look at the shape of him, it just makes sense." goes in the top 10 best SkillUp lines ever written.
alognside "Drugs are good" and "put on the gimp mask and your man is more than happy to obligue" trully a highlight for 2023
Stormy Daniels would disagree, though.
Dang, actually I'm shocked that your week in news videos aren't hitting over 500k everytime. They're very high quality and full of the most important gaming news. Seriously, such a gem to get one every Tuesday on the dot. Thank you!
The reason last weeks video was such a hit is plain and simple, we missed you! Wonderful to have you back :)
Hi-Fi Rush is so good it’s practically a MUST PLAY for anyone who likes DMC or character action games.
So great, already beat it and found all the secret rooms, and now I’m going back to S rank all the levels. Early GOTY contender.
Last year also had a hack-and-slash/character action game by name of Soulstice come out. Very ambitious title and quite solid (think kinda on the line of the Darksiders series, not AAA but not really Indie).
Though as much as I personally love it, it's got issues such as some pacing bits, camera at times, and a mechanic with casting a Red or Blue forcefield.
But it does do a lot of things well, such as six secondary weapons with their own uses (punch daggers, bladed whip, warhammer, tonfa cannons), a big variety in enemies, and pretty awesome art direction, and *really* good characterization for the two main characters.
There's also a mechanic involving a secondary character that fights passively and can block, repel, freeze enemies in time and parry, depending on the enemy's attack and the timing of pressing that character button. And she's got her own upgradable skill tree, where one can remove a certain ability and get a full currency refund.
And it also affects the effects the Devil Trigger state has, depending on the predominant type of these skills you choose. It's *really* cool.
There's also customizable button mapping and, some colorblindness options.
Late for me to say this, but i'm just kinda trying to spread the word about a recent, solid entry in a genre where new releases are scarce.
I hope it may prove interesting for any DMC fans out there-- even if you don't play it yourself, or you don't jive with the game as is for whatever reasons, the support can really help the devs get better for the future.
Just beat it yesterday, such a great ride. Specially when everything is so cynical and depressing, it was a good thing to have something with a lot of charm and that just wanted to be fun first that didn’t come from Nintendo
It has Denuvo so it's a nope for me.
@@nnnneeeeuuuuhold on, Nintendo still makes games?

Last video popped off because we missed you man. Cheers for the great content. I find myself looking forward to each TWIG
I’ve been loving Deadspace and I gotta applaud you for always bringing up the indie games, they’re such a good time. I’ve been playing Death in the Water 2 since you mentioned it last week and overall this have been an incredibly spooky but fun week!

Nice
Hey this guy's alright!
15:30 "Krafton had invested more than $160 into the game to get it made and marketed."
Yep, that figure checks out.
Yeah, though struggling to recoup 3 copies worth of investment is surely even lower projections than I would have ever imagined 🤣
I’ve been watching since series your first TWIVG, but I never actually got around to saying: Thank you SkillUp for these round-up videos. They genuinely help me stay involved with the gaming medium through a busy college life.
Like I’ve wanted to play the Pathless ever since it come out on PlayStation/PC, and now I’ll be able to on Xbox, and I would NOT have known that without this series telling me about it.
Just wanted to let you know we all appreciate you and your videos.
I played it on PC and its an absolute gem. Def recommend it on console and i might pick it up again on Xbox.
Glad you are feeling better man, thanks as always for great content 👍
tuesday is my friday and i work overnights, so this has been an awesome way to start my weekend for the past few months, keep it up brother
Today I woke up thinking man I really wanna listen to Ralph talk about video games, I wonder if it's time for another this week in video games, and here you are thanks Ralph
Keep it up man. Seems like you're growing and growing each week.
Thanks for yet another excellent Week in Videogames!
Bro hasn't even watched the video yet not that you need to for skill up tho
@@dylansmith5430 Definitely. I see Skill Up I know I'm in for quality content.
another amazing week in videogames, the show was sorely missed as it is truly a highlight of the week. Stay strong for the madness that february will be!
Each week you deliver, and it always makes for the best lunch break!
Glad you are putting a spotlight on “Shadows of Doubt.” First saw it on ACG and it’s definitely my cup of tea.
Genuinely crazy that this channel hasn't hit 1M subs yet
Great video Austin. 👍 This other guy is growing on me.

These videos of gaming industry recap literally make my day, thanks!!
One of those things that’s nice to see pop up in my feed.
Thanks for mentioning Mech Warrior. Really. The last DLC came out last week, was really enjoying it. Take care and stay safe.
Great to see you up and running. I'm also hyped for Lightfall, can't wait. Since you've mentioned catching up with this season's content, can I suggest getting the Disparity and Ikelos SMG crafting patterns? Also, Revision Zero quest mission is awesome.
The Arc Trace rifle is a must-get. Ikelos SMG is good, but it has always been over-rated imo.

We're juat happy to have you back my dude😁👍
Always thankful for your content! Thank you!!!
Glad someone said something about The Day Before vanishes, I wanted to look into it based on some news and just nothing existed on Steam making me think I had gone insane.
Great episode. You’re becoming a huge influence on the review landscape and your never compromising commitment to quality and thoughtful review shines through every week. Look forward to every SkillUp video!
The is next level ball gargling. Yikes.
SKILLUP IM SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK!
Why was last week's video so watched and liked? Because you consistently put some of the most informative and entertaining gaming content on the platform, with near unrivaled quality of research, structure, and presentation. Additionally, you unashamedly put your personality and opinions into each video, and you have yet to have any genuinely bad takes on developments around the media (though some may disagree on your game-specific opinions). Each video gets better and better, and we all eagerly look forward to the next week's. We all went through a bit of withdrawal during your break, so it's good to have you back.
Thanks skill up!
Finished Hi-Fi Rush last night. How on earth this gem was just shadow dropped with no marketing is insane. It was outstanding in a way that video games have been lacking in over the years. Looking forward to NG+!
Elden ring
Feels good to have you back good sir. It’s going to be one hell of a year. 🇬🇧
We all watched last week's update video because it was the only bit of new content from you in awhile. Keep it coming man.
Holy shit, i got chills from SkillUp whispering "We all try to escape at one point or another, but we all come back" at 17:02. Truly a videogame villain moment right there. He could probably do some Audible reader account and read me some scary books and I would easily piss myself.
it's so true though... although i haven't tried escaping since 2017
I don’t know why but the way you present news in these videos has me watching from begging to end.
What are you begging for?
glad you are feeling better Ralphup
Caught the change in voice as well, thought you removed a tooth or something. Glad you feel better!
The crazy thing about Hi Fi Rush is that it can be just as chill as it can be hell. I like Rhythm games, and I started on Hard and man they really turn up the pressure and requirements for S ranks.
Conversely, Easy/Normal will probably feel like a breeze. Either way you'll be vibing through it. Literally the only flaw I have is that it has Denuvo on Steam.
I love how I got a little “I strongly recommend…” pop-up in the top right, after he finished talking about drugs being good. I was like “Yea! Skill Up recommending some good good!”
Hey! Since we are going into, what is now, the biggest month every year in video game releases, it would be awesome if you could spin them all up into a single video to outline everything that is coming out for the month!
Love your content, man. Keep it up.
I know why last week's video had so many views, we missed you man, we were craving some "Gameeeers". Great content 👍
Thank you SkillUp for making my morning. Hi-Fi Rush is the surprise drop that we all needed.
Hi-fi rush is the game of January for me, let's see if it keeps up for another 11 months.
I think last week's vid was so big just cos we missed you man
Wow, just wow. Just found you finally and what can I say except this style of news for video games has been missing for me. Cant wait to tune in every week. Keep it up and thank you for giving me some fun news that definitely put some new things on my radar!
After finishing Hifi rush last night I can definitely say it'll be in my mind come December

The robot designs and the whole guitar thing on Hi-Fi Rush give me FLCL vibes
The day before vanished?
Who could have predicted this?
Last week's video was so much watched because it was your first weekly video of the year, after a few weeks hiatus. We just missed you that much, ok? Don't judge, you never had the displeasure of having less Ralph than needed on any given week in your life, you are just that much privileged.
YOOOOO THE PATHLESS. So, *so* good, and the OST is fantastic too
Hi-Fi Rush is blowing me away so far. I'm 4 hours in and really starting to feel that groove. My god, what a polished, nostalgic, entertaining and satisfying product. I literally end each play session with a sore face from grinning so much.
What really threw me for a loop was the Xenogears reference in Hi-Fi Rush.
"No idea why that did as well as it did" you're one of the best voices in the industry my guy, your opinion is respected specifically because you're both alright with getting critical and always make sure to shout out the indie games.
Audio pops all throughout the video, nice :)
Hey, I know it's a bit odd, but do you have any opinions on Pizza Tower? It's a really fun indie game that released a couple of days ago and it needs more eyes on it. If you loved the old Wario Land games, it's right up your alley.
Holy shit yes please SkillUp we need more people to know about Pizza Tower
This man still finds a way to slip Destiny into every video. He’s influenced by Hive magic I tell ya
The moment I saw the headlines about The Day Before I knew you'd be popping an I Told You So in your next video. ;)
another banger - can you believe this is free - absolutely nuts - thank you mate
I'm hoping for a physical release for Hifi Rush.
Hi-Fi Rush! I hope they make an animated series follow up to this one, it just makes too much damn sense!
Nah, I want an expansion or a sequel that has a different genre of music.
@@marcusaaronliaogo9158 To each their own I suppose. While I wouldn't mind a sequel, the game ends on a really strong note and I don't think it needs a continuation. Not to mention, the music is sort of the point if you change it, you change the heart and soul of the game.
That being said, I wouldn't mind an expansion, maybe from the perspective of some of the other characters?
Either way, that doesn't mean you can't do both an expansion and a series. Both is good. Haha.
Gimmie my Hi-Fi cartoon!
@@call_me_maple spoiler:
There was a joke that kale still exist as a copy ai. But he was defeated by a cleaner bot unplugging the system, tho the machine was not destroyed. So maybe the devs were planning a sequel while at the same time leaving it all finished in the first game.
It did big cause we missed our skill up weekly dose ;). Also the dead space review was next level. No one structures their videos about gaming that well in my opinion.
I think the last this week in video games was so big was because we missed you shillup
I removed 'The Day Before' from my wishlist when I noticed there was only ever three zombies in every shot of the game. It started to feel fake to me and I saw too many red flags.
If HIFI Rush came out at the end of this year and was therefore still in collective conscience it would be a solid contender for best game of the year.
The third episode of the last of us could’ve been so much better though. I thought when they were arguing about painting the house Frank was going to leaving. They made it seem like they were constantly arguing in that scene like the game. Then you know, it would switch to Joel and Ellie arriving at Bill’s. Instead they just recreated the opening scene of Up.
I don’t I kind of liked the switch from the game, it brings a little more hope and light to the universe instead of the “everything is fucked and so are we” theme that the games have
15:30 "Crafton have invested more than 160$ (into Calisto Protocol)" - wow, for such a budget title it looks REALLY good :D
HiFi Rush is definitely a GOTY contender imo
