Sniper installed in 2017. Went thru same issues, and what fixed all was to remove the fuel regulator and install a 32buxx external one. No more issues. Turns out the cheapo thing was randomly defining pressure. Now got a perfect steady 59.5 psi at all rpm. While using the original was ranging from mid 60 to high 70’s. Also a modified mazda o2 sensor spacer ( enlarged the tip to reveal the sensor fully) made the AFR readings more stabile. Now no more over rich mix or hesitations or anything. It finally runs at it should have for years.

Hmm, 🤔 the Terminator-X Stealth 4500 system on my 900h.p. 547" big block works just fine all the time.
Reach through the window, twist the key for a second or two, and it roars to life and idles immediately. It's consistant as can be at the track also.... 🤷🏻

I enjoyed watching your videos. I'm 47 years old and been working on vehicles my most of my life so my experience with carburetors and fuel injection is there.. Fuel injection is wonderful in my humble opinion but only on a factory equipped vehicles Kia ,VW ,Honda Dodge whatever ect.I trust it because engineers have tested this over and over in every extreme Hot heat freezing cold rain and snow, it also has been tested to last at least 80 thousand miles before any flaws can occur to help keep its vehicle warranty unlike these Aftermarket EFI set ups .Myself I'd never put any Aftermarket fuel injection set up in any of my classic daily driven vehicles. Carburetors with analog systems are fool proof and your local Advance, O'Reilly, Napa is going to have what you need that day on the self. Those Aftermarket EFI components ( THE PARTS U NEED NOW) are mainly sold by big companies like Summit,Jeggs and are mail ordered and that is if they have what you need in stock or it's not on backorder, this isn't going to help you when you're vehicle is dead on the side of the road. However Aftermarket EFI systems are great in the correct environment, racetracks dragstrip and off -road as to were they are better because there is no float being bounced around causing havoc and bowl leaks and flooding but mind you those types of vehicles are usually brought by trailer so your not stranded if a failed laptop battery is dead keeping you from starting your vehicle lol. Myself I feel that carburetors are often overlooked and misunderstood by many because of the push on technology. Hot roding should be fun and simple. Some of this EFI Aftermarket is just over complicating a simple thing. Thanks for reading this. NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE.

Sadley aftermarket EFI just don't have the R&D $$ to make them reliable. I've watched to many youtubers dump Sniper and the like for Carburetors. Good video 👍

Also, dont be fooled into thinking exhaust leaks downstream of the O2 sensor cant affect its reading, they absolutely can. I once replaced a catalytic converter on my car because all codes pointed to that, no change. I then discovered that the flex joint downstream of the sensor was degraded inside (where you cant see from outside).

I've been running an MSD Atomic EFI on a Mustang 302ci. for a few years now. After the inital setup and some tuning I haven't touched it. Starts right up, runs smooth hot or cold and actually gets decent mileage. They aren't just plug and play, they take some tuning. Most importantly they won't work well on an engine that has other problems.

so i learned something new. didn't know you could use brake clean for the o2 sensor testing. i always just took a propane torch to it (not lit obviously). sure you've already swapped to carb, but wanted to throw some things out there. 1. yes, if you don't use the AC kick, disable it. also depin any wires that aren't used. this'll help prevent interference. 2. the o2 sensor testing can confirm if it's dead. it can't always confirm it's good. i say this because they can be intermittent which i believe is your issue unless you already replaced it and had the same issue. it's also possible the o2 controller (internal to the sniper) has an issue and would require sending it to holley. 3. and lastly, old engine is fine with sniper as long as there aren't mechanical issues. self tuning is a myth (in a sense).. it'll get it driveable, but it'll never "tune" itself. if you want the most out of it, you'll either have to learn to modify the tune file yourself (preferable with a laptop) or take it to a dyno shop. all the "self tuning" or learn does is adjust the fuel table. it'll only hit areas you drive constant on as well.. so cells you dip into on decel and such won't be learned and will affect the way it runs. along with timing, cold starts, temp/accel enrich, etc..

Thanks, I got the msd atomic efi and it hasn’t ran since it’s been on the engine! Going back stock, thought it was what was advertised! Plug and Play! I think I figured out what they plugged! I think I got screwed on this easy wire, system!

  • @TheJoefussGarage

That gent, that alluded to the fact, these aftermarket EFI units, haven't had the R&D time, with hundreds of thousands of simulated miles, to really "flesh" out there weakness's with "RFI" leaking exhaust system's , worn ignition components and the like. Things a decent carburetor can tune around and live with rather easily, is something to think 🤔 about. Listen, not all of these systems are all bad, the point is, most of us, don't have a lot of time, to really enjoy driving our cars, so for me, I'll stick with my carbs for my old rides. EFI's fine for my daily driver... At least until the base system they sell, is relatively "bullet proof".

I don't have a cat and I barely have a muffler ha! I'm running open glass packs. I think the TPS sensor is right, when I pull the throttle it goes to 100% and back. that's interesting input. I will have to look into it. thanks for the tip!

Do a range test with a volt meter there are vid on u tube show you how sometimes its that flange on the actual throttle that needs to be changed to have it right i have a astro van and did the same thing if you decide to get a new tps sensor they come with 3 different flanges

Hi... I watched your video!! I am having same issues with my holley. My car is a Chevrolet 250ci Engine, 6 cylinders in-line. My IAC starts to surge after few minutes driving the car. I also watched the video that the guy mentioned to disable the IAC AC Kick to 0% but didn't have time to test it as I don't have my car in hands right now, and now I am disappointed that this didn't fix your issue and you are planning to return with carburetor.

Finding a majority of sniper users try to slap these units on like carbs and never tune their iac hold/park or adjust their VE tables. You seriously have to treat the system the same as a multi port terminator x set up.

Have you looked into a Carb Cheater from Thunderhead289? Looks like a pretty cool setup for a carburetor.
I have a sniper system I bought about 5 years ago that is for my wife’s 65 mustang project. Now I’m not sure if I’m even going to put it on with all of the issues I have been hearing about it.
    Great videos, really enjoy them.

I went through periods where I almost bought the sniper efi but ultimately didn't. The idea remained, but not anymore.
I went down the rabbit hole of the "carb-cheater" system. Seems like an clever product, I mean if someone is going to buy an AFR gauge to help tune their carb.. they might as well spring the extra dough and get the carb-cheater with it's ability to make adjustments on the fly. I think I'll get one down the line.

If you've had exhaust leaks with your EFI system, for any amount of time, you might as well just replace your O2 sensor(s). With an exhaust leak, and the resultant unburned O2 from the atmosphere that gets sucked into the exhaust system through the leak, WILL confuse the sensor and be sending a false lean signal to the ECU all the time, and then it'll be overfueling the engine constantly.
There's NO faster way to foul out an O2 sensor besides taking it out of the box and immediately smashing it on the ground.
Just chalk it up to a lesson learned, and replace the O2 sensor if you've had ANY exhaust leaks. Even a leak as small as a pinhead CAN and WILL screw up your A/F ratio, make the system too rich, and permanently destroy your O2 sensor in no time.
Trust me, I've BEEN there, and DONE that. ✔️

Did u plug a lab top to it, if u don't it's like buying a carb and not tuning it, wich would b dumb, so if u don't tune ur fuel map to ur engine that would b dumb, this thing only tunes certain times and it doesn't no what every combo wants, and tunes to what it should need not what it wants, and if you don't learn a system that b dumb
