I have installed 3 black Holley sniper units. All 3 were replaced because of the same issue. They sprayed the black powder coating inside of the unit. the easiest way to see is to take off the left side cap that the return fuel line connects to. then pull out the diaphragm that's behind it. You will see it has black powder coating inside of it where it is exposed to gas and it will peel. 2 of the 3 just wouldn't run after the screen on the diaphragm clogged the 3rd saw fuel pressure issues and just went WOT on me with zero throttle control, that was scary. If you have a black unit check that out, Holley replaced all mine with a brand new one but they send out a new one with the same issue. I would recommend not getting powder coated units for replacement.

Glad to hear you had it resolved. I can't say I have had the same experience with this unit. I had to send mine back once for injector driver failure, and it croaked again a few months later with 2 injector drivers failed. It is out of warranty now so I am screwed. Tried to call in to see about repairs, but call was dropped and never heard back. I did get an email from a Holley tech saying I should have received a call back, and was told to try calling in again. After 2 failures of their EFI, and too much time on hold trying to get it replaced or repaired, I have resigned myself to installing a carb so I can at least drive my vehicle. I can honestly say I will never trust a Holley Sniper EFI unit on any vehicle I want to depend on. Others I have read about have had better luck with theirs lasting, but my experience says otherwise. To anyone considering a Holley Sniper EFI system on their vehicle, buyer Beware!!

I'm actually ripping off my system this weekend to put a carb back on. After all I've dealt with, plus what I've seen from other people, I could never recommend a Holley EFI system to anybody.

Thank you, lessons learned. I have Installed 3 Fitech throttle body units. One on my 1968 C10 with a 5.3 LS, my sons ''84 Mustang notch with a 347 stroker and my son-in-laws 1979 F250 with a 400m. All were simple, run great and trouble free over the last 4 years even in sub zero temps. One of my friends installed a Holley unit on his '67 Satellite, it had a bad coolant sensor and finally got Holley to replace it but other than that it has been running fine since.

It’s so annoying that it seems everyone on CZcams has nothing but issues like this guy. And then I find comments like this and on forums. Makes me wonder if this system is actually worth it over learning your carb. I have a sniper on the way and I’m still not sure it was the right decision. I may send it back. @@ProfessorPuffyPants My '68 C10 is a daily driver and has been for 3 years with a Fitech unit on it. Never a problem but it's not unheard of to run into a bad sensor once in a while. The throttle body systems are one of the easiest injectors going and very reliable, I personally will never go back to a carb. You just need to do a quality wiring job and most of all make sure you have 100% grounding throughout your vehicle, I always run extra engine and body grounds. Scotch Locks and electrical tape are a huge no/no and will burn you every time. Terminate all your wiring, shrink tube is your best friend and properly support and tie down all wire runs. You'll never regret it.

I then had Fast Man Efi do a remote tuning session and now the car is even better! The carb was never this responsive and easy to start. Ahh....the Old Holley Sniper EFI issue. Had this system on a brand new race motor at $23,000. Engine company build the motor and installed the Holley EFI. All dyno tuned and packaged up and sent in a crate motor.
After receiving the engine turn key.....had the engine installed by the Ford team of experts at my local shop. Award winning shop by the way. Literally drop in, plug and play ensuring all grounds per Holley.
2 Weeks later an less than 20 miles....was cruising the first time in the car 2 miles from my house when the car just shut off. Luckily coasted into a gas station and my buddy pulled in behind me as we were both going to a car show on a Saturday to show off the car and all the hard work. So excited .....then turned to total disappointment.
We raise the hood to see what's going on. He stands in front of the car with the hood up and tells me to turn the key on and get ready to start diagnosing with the air filter off.
When I turned the key to the on position....the Holley Sniper EFI was DUMPING RAW FUEL by the LITERS into the carburetor. He yells......Shut it off. Shut it off. Never even cranked it again.
We have the car towed back to the shop. Without boring everyone with the rest of the story.....spent the next 8 months fighting with Holley and the well Respected Engine Company that built the motor to replace the system. After months of back and forth only to find out this was a common Defect in the Holley Sniper EFI, I told Holley that I wanted insurance from them that if they sent my engine builder a totally new Sniper EFI system that this would not happen again. Holley could not guarantee nor confirm that they had found and fixed this defect in the Holley Sniper EFI System.
At that point, I told them to get this boat anchor piece of crap system OFF of my $23,000 dollar motor. Brand new motor with my rings getting fuel soaked within the first 20 miles of driving.
I paid over $4000 bucks between the engine builder and my installer to completely swap out the Holley Sniper EFI. Changed over to Holley Dominator and Coil On Plug with Holley High Ram. Sent back the Holley Sniper EFI and never looked back.
Got the new system on and now the car uses oil. Rings completely washed out on brand new motor. Going to give the car some time with the new system to see if the rings will seat over time but most likely screwed and the motor has to come out.
The car sat for almost 9 months waiting on parts from Holley during the Pandemic and lack of parts. So the engine installer charged me $3000 and got a credit from the Engine builder but cost too much to send the engine back to the builder to install new Holley parts as they were out of stock. So the car sat at the engine installer shop for 9 months until parts came in. Got a credit for the parts but all the Labor costs to swap at the engine installer cost me a lot of money. Then I had to take the car to a tuner with the new set up as Holley wouldn't answer the Phone at tech support to give us a new tune which they should have supplied due to a failed part.
Bottom line is this. Don't buy a Holley Sniper EFI until it is confirmed by Holley that they have found and fixed the issue. To this day there is no confirmation that this system has been upgraded and fixed.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a Massive Holley Fan. Love all Holley products and have used Holley my entire life. Still to this day I would buy Holley but this was the worst experience in my life. I'm just hoping the rings will seat over time. If not....it's back to the drawing board.

I had a sniper problem 2 years ago. I bought the whole hyperspark setup. First Holley tech said get a new coil. I explained it’s a brand new hyperspark coil, was told to buy a new one, they didn’t offer to replace it. Then when that wasn’t it, I called again and got a guy who immediately said “sounds like an issue with the ecu” then proceeded to set up the RMA process for it. He also said they should’ve RMA’d the coil, not had me buy a new one.

As I am trying to help a good friend that bought one of these snipers and after the shop, he took it to, talked him into it and after a month they still could NOT get it running! He had to have it towed home! That's when I got involved and have been working on it for 2 days! I undid everything and started over and I think we have the same problem? no matter what I try there is NO Spark! I think we have a bad injector EFI like you did? I will see what Holley can do and if they do not help, we will put the Holley Carb back on his 68 Firebird With a custom 455 that was running great until he decided to try this? I was nervous with the nut and stud removal while nothing was in the intake to keep a dropped part from going down to China. More fun removing the intake to get it back. I've seen someone learn with the rags in the intake also, (use 1 big rag). He cut the rag up and stuffed a smaller rag into each port. Forgot to take them out, struggled for 2 hours to get the car to run. Blew the rags/flaming confetti out both tailpipes, ultimately bent every intake valve.

To me the potential of being stranded or being in a place where I can actually fix the truck without being on hold for 1+ hours just to get a quick roll of the dice Diagnosis only for it to not fix it anyway just isnt worth all the other potential benefits.
