  • In this video we check out and discuss the new features of the Sniper 2 and has it really addressed all the problems of the previous Sniper. We are an authorized Holley EFI dealer and work on dozens of these a year. www.customworksperformance.net

    I feel I hear about one good report on Sniper in 10. Most who have tried it are back using carburettors.
    I considered it for both my cruiser and my racecar. Cruiser with modern autochoke Holley and MSD would be hard to beat.
    Racecar would never make the power levels required with a throttle body fool injection.

    I installed the original sniper a couple years ago in my '69 Camaro. Been a decent a unit overall. but like you mentioned, I've had issues with the secondaries. I've wound the spring an extra turn, recentered the blades, and added a stiffer return spring. The problem eventually came back by the end of cruise season. Drove me nuts. I'm planning on updating to the sniper 2 this year and hopefully finally get rid of that problem once and for all. I didn't have any other issues but the other common problems (RFI, injectors coming unplugged) were always in the back of my mind. I'll be looking forward to your upcoming reviews and hopefully it will be much more reliable unit.

    I put a Sniper Stealth/Hyperspark on a Windsor stroker a year and a half ago. I did not get the "master kit" because I already had an electric EFI fuel pump in the car (2012 Mustang), as well as an Aeromotive regulator. I also already had a welded-in O2 bung. I spent a month (the delivery time for the sniper) making sure my electrical stuff was good for the Sniper - mainly improving the grounds - and the install went well, with no RFI issues at all. I also used Ford racing cut-to-fit plug wires (1/2 the price of the MSD crap that Holley recommends).
    It's been a year and a half, and I'm still running on the self-tuning. Eventually, I'm gonna get it tuned, though.

      @ks71z28  Před 6 měsíci

      I'm you are interested I can help you with some tuning to optimize it. You would need the lap top cable, or you can email me your tune and I can do the same thing. Cost is usually about $175 for this

    • @ks71z28
      @ks71z28  Před 6 měsíci +2

      So here is the deal, if you're having it "learn" to afr and timing values that aren't correct, its still not tuned correctly. The Holley can only tune to what you determine as targets, the base targets are very generic and really not optimal for anything @@jsimmonstx

    I have been running a Edelbrock 750 on a 427 W for 12 years with no problems. I never give it any thought. I think I will run it for another 12 years.
    I have an MSD 6AL that has been working ok but carry a spare unit just in case. Years ago, on a different car the MSD quit on the highway without any warning. I kept my old points distributor in the trunk wrapped up in a paper bag. Installed the old points distributor and was back on the road. I try to carry as many spare parts as I have room for.

    We saw all the same stuff when I was at JBA Speed Shop in San Diego. We stopped installing them by 2017. But we would try to fix them for customers that already had them.
    It would be fine then just out of the blue pop up with gremlins. The ignition systems made it worse. I hope these are better. I won’t use one myself though. Terminator or even an original MSD atomic if I needed a tbi setup.
    Saw mostly the same issues with FITech too.

      If you know your know. If people were willing to spend $2000 for a unit with solid electronics, this would be great. Holley is now run by an investment group who make decisions based on cost and profit. The variable they seem to overlook is customer service and their dealer support. Seems like they are trying to make good with the dealers they stepped on over the last few years. thanks for watching

    Haven’t decided if I want to upgrade from the Sniper 1, had to send the first in that died, Holley was nice enough to send me an updated one and I’ve had nothing but problems with it, runs to lean and finally just stopped running. Do I want to spend more money on a newer Sniper 2 to go through this again?.
    I was running an Edelbrock carborator for years and never had a problem with it, a lot to think about

    • @ks71z28
      @ks71z28  Před 5 měsíci

      Not sure exactly what your sniper issues are but it might be a case of an installation issue. Running lean would be a tune issue. I would suggest comparing your target AFR to your actual AFR. If you were in Northern California I would definitely have you come here and have it looked at. Maybe there is someone in your area as well. Hope you get it sorted.

    Junk for an off road rig. Left me stranded 25miles deep in the Colorado high county. A Qjet may not be perfect but they are the best carb for a trail rig and you can get home even if there are induction problems.

    • @ks71z28
      @ks71z28  Před 6 měsíci

      How did the sniper specifically leave you stranded? Did the o2 fail, fuel pump? I’m curious what leaves people stranded. I had a situation where a customer stated that his sniper would start to run bad after driving for 30 minutes. We went on a long drive. It started to do exactly like he had explained, moments before it ran out of gas 😅. I’m not saying your sniper wasn’t the culprit, but I have never not been able to get one to run. Usually that was a fuel delivery or some sort of electrical problem. The big one that happens a lot is when a customer contacts me and says the sniper is out of tune. This isn’t really possible. 9/10 times it’s the distributor had moved. Sorry for your issues. Getting stranded anywhere sucks.

      @@ks71z28 it was a situation where we had parked for 3 days. Nothing dramatic. Just would not fire. Like weak fuel pressure on a factory injection. Cranking great but no fire. Spent a day going over every electrical connection. Fuel and spark were there. I used a borrowed 4160 and loose vise grips on the hose to reduce the fuel flow to get out. Wasn't pretty but it worked well enough. This is on a warm, tall deck 427 in a 76 Suburban. Honestly I think it was the g forces of wheeling that created the failure. Probably a broken printed circuit board or something similar.

      The ntk sensor isn’t compatible with the sniper or terminator x stuff? Also the issue with the O2 dying is NOT the sensors themself. Holley uses actual Bosch sensors.
