It's LIT-erature! Sharing five of my favorite books and reviewing them. What are you planning to read next on your list? Let me know!
I'm planning to reread 'Strange the Dreamer' this month, it's my all-time favourite book, and in strange times like these it's nice to reread a book that's close to my heart.
Hey Jenn! Do you have a goodreads? I'd love to see what other books you read.
Circe!! Seen you recommend and talk about it multiple times now I gotta get on the hype 🙌🏻
Currently reading the English translation of Kim Ji Young, Born 1982

I live for your book videos 🐛 📚
HIGHLY recommend Know My Name by Chanel Miller. It details her experience as the girl who was sexually assaulted by the Stanford swimmer, a case that has been highly publicized. She’s an incredible writer and I think the book is so important and really a must-read for everyone!
I agree 100%. It is a must read for all people!
YES. This was such a good book!
See that’s a form of being evil.
REALLY recommend it as well - I hung onto every inspiring word
I came to say the same thing. Highly recommend! It's an incredibly powerful read. We need more representation from Asians in literature!
How fast does she read? Wow im jealous of her, that’s why she’s good at speaking 😮
SAME
She also majored in Communications in college as well I think. But she is well read.
You can actually practice reading fast. 😉 But I believe that it’s not about how fast you read and how many you read, but on how the books you read make an impact on you. 💙
What I have been doing since the quarantine started has been pairing books with their audiobooks if available and reading along at 1.5 to 1.7 speed. It's helped train my focus, mental clarity, and comprehension tremendously. I've read 25 books in the past 5 months because of it. Now, when I read books without the audiobooks I read them in a week whereas it used to take me at least a month before. I hope that helps!
@@jessicacerullo3155 I haven’t been pairing but have been listening to lots of audio books. It is so nice while driving and doing chores around the house!
I loved your suggestions 💖📚
I loved a thousand splendid suns - Khalid Hosseini. Can anyone recommend anything similar to that. Kite Runner is on my list already.
that is one of my favorite books ever!! other books i’d recommend that include female companions/sister-ish relationships are the color purple and by the light of my father’s smile by A. Walker, the secret life of bees by S M Kidd. idk if this will be up your alley, it’s not really similar to a thousand splendid suns, but my absolute favorite is into the wild by J. Krakauer. hope you find these tips helpful x
Omg loved that, something that reminds me of it but is a bit lighter is Half of a Yellow Sun :)
@@AI-gd7lz I so appreciate your suggestions thank you 😊
@@BiancaGregorio03 thank you so much will check it out
Ironfire by David Ball. a bit more adventure, and poppy but I highly recommend it still.
doesn't anyone else feel the shoulder length bob was made for Jenn? frames her face well!! she looks sharp
Absolutely agree .
Fingers crossed we get a podcast recommendations!!
Yess i would love a video about it too !!
i’d love to her recs for podcasts!!!
Wow, i was actually thinking that it should be my goal to read more this month and then here comes your new book recs! Thank you!
Ah, so many of Jenn's recommended books have been in my to-read list forever! I just don't have time for more reading, especially since I'm in a modern Japanese literature class. Maybe after the semester ends.
If anyone is looking for some Japanese classics (in translation), here are the books I'm reading for my class:
1. Kokoro by Natsume Soseki (translated by Edwin McClellan)
2. Naomi by Junichiro Tanizaki (translated by Anthony H. Chambers)
3. Silence by Shusaku Endo (translated by William Johnston)
4. The Woman in the Dunes by Koko Abe (translated by E. Dale Saunders)
I have read Kokoro and Naomi, and am in the middle of Silence, and I would recommend them all so far!
ahhh Kokoro is such a good read!
thank you for the recommendations. I am trying to learn more about the Japanese culture and you just really helped me.
Just what I needed today! Was about to head for a run to the park and lay out my blankets and speakers with some jazz and read. I don’t know who else to trust for stimulating reads other than you. Love the commentary.
She looks so chrming when she recommends the books in videos. I can read real pleasure from her face.
I just love your joy of reading! It’s so evident by how you smile while talking about books. It’s contagious! Can’t wait to read some of these recommendations.
Yasssss😭❤️❤️ just when I needed it. Today morning I was going through your old videos about books if I missed out anything. Thank you so much Jenn. Your recommendations are the best❤️❤️❤️
I love2 how clear all your pronounciations are. Like, omagad give us some communication tips.
Hahah thank you! n_n;; I think enunciation is important.

I love when you do these videos! I’m basically putting all these books on my tbr.
Thanks for sharing Jenn!! These are some of my favorite videos by you!
Anything by Gabor Maté I recommend - e.g. " When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress" or "In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close [Clothes ;P] Encounters with Addiction".
His book about children and peer relationships is amazing. Such a joy to listen to his lectures
I def plan on reading all of these! also I loved circe sm and your book club chat was phenomenal!

This is so wild.. I was just going through your past book rec videos this morning to find new reads and then you uploaded this! HAHA
I LOVE watching book reviews! I usually tend to read books from the same authors or the same genre, but when I see/hear recommendations I come out of my comfort zone and ALWAYS have a great experience!
Thank you Jenn for all the recommendations and your kind words.
P.S. I HIGHLY recommend you reading "Untamed" by Glennon Doyle.
Jenn talking about books in the most passionate way is the reason why I enjoy these types of videos so much
Your voice and energy gives me so much motivation
You're looking like a BOMB Jenn! Literally the definition of being beautiful inside and out. You're so intelligent and I get motivated every time I watch your videos ❤

I’ve been waiting to your book video and it comes faster than I thought it would be. I absolutely love it! tbh, I haven’t finished reading my list (many of the books are recommended by you. Really appreciate that!❤️❤️) But I keep wanting to see new recommendations 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jenn I absolutely love your recommendations
I read valley of the dolls so fast and loved it!
Thank you❤️
Reading "The Coddling of the American Mind" right now! Sooo so insightful and interesting! Haidt is also one of my favorite lecturers. Love your recommendations always
Love to hear all the new stories you've caught up on! If you're interested in delving into sci-fi/thriller books I highly recommend Micro by Michael Crichton and Richard Preston I read it years ago but I still think about it to this day! And if you're looking for an emotional read about relationships and I recommend This Is How You Lose Her by Junot Diaz. Happy reading :)
I just LOVE your books recommendations ! Thank you !
Always looking forward to your book review videos. Thanks for sharing your reads.
I honestly love jenn's book recommendations so much💕
Hi Jenn 💓💓💓 ahhhhhhhh! New video from you honestly always excites meeeee 💓💓💓
This video was just so timely heheh! Always wanted recommendations of good books! Can’t wait to get some of the books!
SONG OF ACHILLES!!! Quickly became my favorite read this year :) Love these videos Jenn!
Hi, Jenn! Could you please share with us your reading techniques? How do you manage to read so many books and at the same time handle work and social balance? :) thank you ❤️
It’s always important to set a certain time of day that you’ll dedicate solely for reading. Doesn’t matter if it’s 15 minutes or an hour. Just do it daily. Also, audiobooks are life savers! You can read a book while doing chores. 💙
I carve out 20 - 40 mins each night for reading. I hardly watch any TV shows anymore. Instead I've replaced that time with books!
@@imjennim Thank you so much for you reply! This is something I should implement as well! ❤️
@@whatpollyreads5979 Thanks for your suggestion! Agree with you!
The Gadfly is the book that still stands first among all the books I have read, very special and different it takes you beyond normal emotions and you finish it feeling that you have grown older , I 100% recommend it jenn !
Great video darling
Love your book recommendation videos 😍 thank you for sharing!!
yess omg I’ve been waiting for this!
LOVE THESE BOOK RECS!! LOVE THE READING GRIND 😩💯💯
Yay another book suggestions video!💛💛💛
here are a few of my favorite reads this year, that range from indulgent fiction to more enriching biz/tech books:
-delayed rays of a star by Amanda Lee Koe
-shoe dog by Phil Knight
-Zero to One by Blake Masters and Peter Theil
-the testaments by Magaret Atwood
Books we read affect the quality of our thoughts and daily life in some ways. Thank you Jenn. Have a great day everyone.
Hello JENN! I have been watching your videos since I was in University (Canadian here) and I also worked at Forever 21 through my college days :P Now at 28 years old, I feel more connected to you and inspired by you. I have recently also started my own book club and am starting a blog. I thank you for the inspiration and confidence you give me, and I am humbled to have found you on crazy internet! Wishing you well always
I love these types of vids so much just because reading and the whole culture around it are such a cozy, yet mind-bending experience and my brain lights up whenever I get more titles to put on my list of books that need to be read, these all sound hecka interesting in their own respective ways, thank you sm for proving more brain food ^°^
Just love your suggestions always
“Can’t hurt me” by David goggins is my 2020 favorite book
I like it but the way he refers pussy and vagina as weak kinda irritated me
@@KhaNguyen-qs2dq Oh that's not cool. That would irritate me too. If you're going to use genitals as weak, vaginas aren't the answer.
@@wolfferoni yeaa the thing is I’m a guy and that bothered me. So I bet if it’ll prolly irritate female readers. It’s 2020; there are so many ways to describe weak and saying “you’re a p***y” or “i need to hem my vagina” are not ok
but he is speaking about his mentality when he was in the army and the general way of speaking there in 2001
I never felt like he was looking down on women but just a way to speak that developed with the environment he grow up in and the army guy speech
Yes, it’s not correct but when I see how often people use the B word it’s no different
I love love love these videos! Your suggestions are always on point :)
I’ definitely have to recommend The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern, it starts with university student finding a mysterious book that somehow had a whole section about his life and evolves into stories within a story . It’s very rich in details and honestly the imagery is very very amazing.✨✨
Love your book recos and and how you present the summary and your take aways. Would love to see a bookshelf tour hopefully. 🙉
Adding all of these to my ever-expanding reading list 🤭
I've never been this early, even waking up for my online classes hahah love your recommendations Jenn! And always love your content!
I'm definitely interested in the Michael Pollen one, and the Sayaka Murata one! But every rec. in the video was actually very very interesting!
If you liked Eternal Sunshine you should check out "I'm Thinking of Ending Things"!! It's Charlie Kaufman's latest netflix film. SO GOOD.
OMG! I saw it and it was so chilling! Loved it.
For anyone else wanting to watch I'm Thinking of Ending Things - I find the movie to be very strange, even after reading the book and expecting it to be strange. Would recommend the book, not sure about the movie.
you do the best book summaries and recommendations on CZcams to be honest!! Keep doing it pleaseeeeee
i just now remember that it was YOU who introduced me to haruki murakami in your last book video some years ago and he turned out to be life changing for me. I am now studying literature in Berlin and couldn´t be happier. Kudos to you Jenn, you have a impeccable taste and you changed -even just in a subtle way- the lifes of many ! Thank you :)
I love these videos so much! Can't wait to see the more to come! Sending love
I added Circe to my holds list! I forgot you mentioned it last video and I am glad you mentioned it again. c:
I'd recommend "Before the coffee gets cold" if you liked "The Convenience Store Woman" :) The story is set in an old Tokyo coffee shop and is so creative and moving!
I am so excited about Jessica Young's book review ( Shine ). Can't wait JENNNNNNNNN
Hey Jenn! I doubt you'll ever see this, but I just wanted to say I love your videos!! I love how genuine, positive, and helpful they are :) They've helped me get a better outlook on life when things get tough. Thanks for always making amazing content. I know it's not much but I'm definitely rooting for you!!
This video couldn't have come at a better time, I just set up a new "books to read" spread on my journal and wanted recommendations! thank you!
I absolutely loved this video and the graphics were so good!! Will definitely be reading these soon :))
Your enthusiasm makes me want to read more. Am adding circe and convenience store woman to my book list. Thx.
Would LOVE a video on your experiences with psychedelics, if you’ve had any. They changed my life and helped me heal SO much.
Jenn!
Love your recommendations!
I highly recommend ''The Silent Patients'' by Alex Michaelides and ''Maybe you Should Talk to Someone:A Therapist, Her Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed'' by Lori Gottlieb! You will love them!
Also, just want to let you know your What I Learned in My 20s is a masterpiece! I was so touched!💓
I’m so intrigued with The Silent Patients! 😍
Read both of these this year and whizzed through them! Loved them.
Omg I Love These Videos 💕 I can absolutely relate Top the excitement. And gosh I loved the lovestory between Patrocolus and Achilles ✨✨✨✨
I'm really intrigued by the last book. Thank you for the sharing.
Jen, your hair is a work of art. Like wow 😍❤️
I just finished reading “A Blistered Kind of Love” by Duffy & Angela Ballard. It’s written by a real life couple who decides to put everything on pause and challenge themselves as individuals and as a couple to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. They’re not your average experienced hikers either so it was cool to follow their journey. The ways their relationship gets tested was relatable and I loved how they mention all the “characters” they meet on the trail + little bits of history on parts of the trail they hike through. It was a fun read and definitely left me with inspiration!
yaay I love hearing her talk about books
i really love all your book recommendations!
Yessss I love your book recommendations!
The Coddling of the American Mind was my favorite book I read this year. Sooo good!!
Please do more of this!!! Always in need of solid book recommendations 📖📖📖
Great list! I've read 2 of them, will definitely check out the rest.
I watched the Social Dilemma after you mentioned it from a few previous videos I can’t help but see the similarities between the documentary and “The Three Great Untruths” ! I’ll definitely pick up on that and try to join the book discussion! (My chem lab is during your usual IG live times, but I’ll attempt to hop onto a different lab session :D)
Hi👋 Jenn!! thank you for the good tips 🙏 😊
omg i’m so excited for these books please make these more often 🤩🤩
Adding all those to my goodread list! Thank you Jen!!
I highly recommend The Noticer and The Noticer Returns by Andy Andrews. He gives such a great perspective on life! I am also in absolute LOVE with Victoria Hislop's The Thread and The Island.
yayy i was looking for new book recommendations!! thank you :')
Love your outfit and your selection of books 📚. Thanks for sharing this sweetie.
Loveeee listening to you speak!!
"The song of Achilles" is a great book, read it in one go and absolutely loved every bit of it.
I'm always looking forward to your book recommendations. 😊
I love your passion in reading 💓
Jenn thank you for bring a ray of sunshine always! Could you let us know where your earrings are from?
Love these book recommendations! Reading has been such a great way to take breaks from social media/being on my phone. Thanks Jenn🤗 I, along with some other people, highly recommend Know My Name by Chanel Miller. She has such a vivid way of writing that really allows you to see into her experience and mindset during and after her sexual assault.
Jen your book recommendations are 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 Reading has helped me to be more open minded.
Jenn I really admire the way that you carry yourself. Your vocabulary, annunciation and just WHOLE VIBE is so fucking educated and it's the kind of woman I want to be. I can really tell you love to learn and I want to fall in love with learning again - it's really hard as a university student because I don't choose all the things I learn and when I do learn them it feels like a lot of it is so that I can just do well on an upcoming test. Idk if you or anyone in the comments have suggestions for that. But I think it would be really cool if you did a video on how your days are structured!
