My personal tip: Go to the library instead of buying books. This way you save a lot of money, plus, you come across books you would have never even thought of
Bro I went to my local library and itâs trash. Itâs basically a time capsule from the late 80s and early 90s.
@@deathrawphantasma well I'm sorry for you then. It really depends on where you are. Some libraries are very good
also itÂŽs more environmental friendly because youÂŽre saving resources by not buying another physical copy of a book

2:11 I used to avoid "the classics" and really long books, but in the last two years I started reading more classics and longer books and they are classics for a reason. I got bored with Harry Potter after two and a half books, but Anna Karenina and Don Quixote ended up becoming two of my favorite books ever.
I have reordered both those books for the "better" translation, do you have a preference on which version to read?

So true
#1. GET OFF SOCIAL MEDIA.
The reason why I got off social media is because it wasnât helping me grow as a person, and why waste your time on something that isnât benefiting you intellectually. I would rather work on my life instead of posting about it. Speaking isnât doing.
Julissa B. thats true,
This is crucial. Social Media eats up most of my free time!!!
Ok thanks I deleted snap and Instagram.
Thanks, restrict the time we spent is practical advice
I deleted Instagram from my phone and haven't been using it for about a week. Turns out you feel much more confident about yourself when there's no constant flow of other people's achievements... And I started to spend more time reading
This isn't actually very difficult, I found that most of the time is just reading like 50 or 100 pages a day, and that takes those 2 or 3 hours that we spent on social media. All is about priorities. Thank you man, the 4 hour work-week book is changing my game!

Chocolate Muffin tbh i used to read everything on kindle and other e-readers but i just dont like them that much i still prefer holding books in my hand
Not really, i started reading books dilligently since bought kindle because i can carry it everywhere. Real book is quite heavy to carry everywhere
Not really. Itâs easier to read on kindle for example when youâre often on the way. Itâs hard to carry book everywhere with you.
Saianna Sweet well they are about the same weight (if you bring one) the book wont get low on energy the only thing is if you travel far but i for example drive to university like 20 minutes and then i dont really need an ereader cause the books not that heavy and if i finish it well i have just 10 or so more minutes
Understanding the difference between reading for pleasure and reading to learn is critical.
When reading for pleasure you have the flexibility to read in almost any manner you like. If the book is bad or doesnât connect with you donât feel compelled to finish it. Move on to another book that resonates more with you. Additionally, I often read more than one book at a time as I think variety keeps me more engaged in the book Iâm reading at that moment.
Lastly, I do think it is important to keep in mind that books are another form of art. And great writers think carefully about every aspect of the book they write. This results in an intimate one sided street with the reader because the writer is sharing their personal story and perspective. Therefore, I think the important job of the reader is to respect this vision and give the book the moment it deserves. You donât have to like the book or agree with the message but I think you can still respect it. I always try to keep that in mind as I read and I think it makes me a more appreciative and attentive reader.
Just my long-winded 2 cents.
Two books at once, my hats off to you sir!
Love how he gives us times stamps to make sure all our time is productive

I like most of these tips... but skipping parts of the book? No way. I'll get some crap for this, but if you skip parts of a book then you didn't actually finish it.
I agree with you. I would rather finish 50 books than read 100 books with even the slightest skipping. I mean the curiosity would just kill me
Agree
Agree
Not to mention: that this all begs the question--why?--Isn't the goal to gain Knowledge or do some people just want to 'show off' and be loved, merely because they read X amount of books?
Allow me to disagree. My reading skills weren't that great when I started reading so I did skip some descriptions I found tedious and I still do sometimes. I can always go back and reread these things if 1) the book is worth it and 2) the info in it turns out to be important. It's always much more fun to be able to read without having to skip/skim stuff, but I'd rather read and build my skill gradually than feel bad about not understanding everything and getting bored or giving up.
After doing some rereads, I agree it is a fuller experience as I said, but also skipping just didn't have that massive of an effect to take away the "actual finishing" of the book.
I am legitimately grateful that God made a person like you. Man, I have never met you, but you're a different level of inspiring. Thanks Ali
I read 15-30 Books a year but I totally internalize these books in my subconscious â€ïž and skipping part??? No way man ...

If you still want to "gamify" book reading by having a goal to read books/year, but agree with #2 point in this video, just count partial completions. 1/2 of one book and 1/2 of another count as reading a book. + there are genuinely lots of books where 90% of the insight is in the first 25-33% of the book anyway.

I agree with you about the usefulness of creating a goodreads account. It really keeps one motivated to finish a certain book and then keep track of books that one plans to read in the future. It is a wonderful way of cataloging all the books one has read. Definitely recommended for all the readers out there.
P. S. So when he says finished 100 books a year he doesn't mean he actually FINISHED
I know ... Raise your hand if you read because you LOVE TO read, and enjoy gaining Knowledge of the world.
he is a bullshiter. thats it.
Some books are just hard to finish. I don't make a habit of not finishing books, but if I get to the 50% mark and I'm still not interested in any of the characters or the plot, I put the book down.
He never said he finished them, he said he read them (read them doesn't imply completion necessarily, simply that he read some of it's content).
He also probably âreadâ a lot of them at the gym while focused on other things. A lot easier to âreadâ books when you donât actually sit down and read them. Not harping on this guy just this scenario that keeps popping up on the internet.
Great video! I was following most of these in 2019 and ended up reading 50 books which is more than what I read in past 10 years ! Read wise is new to me, have also wondered when to go through my highlights the app sounds great, going to download now. Also thank you for reassuring not to feel guilty about not finishing a book
I really enjoyed this video for a lot of reasons. The editing, including the pop-up images and text as well as the transitions and sounds that they come on the screen with is all amazing. I also really enjoyed the content and sharing the idea about not feeling guilty for not finishing a book. That's something that I only internalized recently. As a side note, my Alexa perked up and said that she could not find an ice and fire mode. lmao
Awesome content! Starting with these tips now :D
I can't do Kindles, I need to have a physical book in front of me. Skipping is dumb, especially when reading fiction. Maybe it's just the books that I read but if you skip anything then you can miss massive pieces of foreshadowing or setup for later in the book. The way to read more is to read more. Make time for it, develop your reading speed so you can read without losing comprehension. One final note is that if you're desperate to read more books then just read shorter ones
In other words, read what's interesting to you, there's no silver bullet that'll make you magically read 100 books in a year. You have to give it time, and even then there are other factors such as book-length and the complexity of the writing
thanks!

Are you counting books that you've only read half of or skimmed as "books you've read"? What do you consider a book you've finished?
I like to read/ listen to several books at one time. I read 100 books this year and I've been putting a blog post together about how easy it is to read/listen more. I often find books that suck and I just stop reading them. I think that's something people have trouble with, if the book isn't good then stop reading it and get something else :).

Very inspirational. My Kindle is usually (but not always) just collecting dust and I think I need to build it into my routine like you said. Before bed seems really good for me too. I grew up on the Wheel of Time series and absolutely love it. I hope you like it too. I will say that unfortunately you may want to just skip book 6 up until the last three books written by Brandon Sanderson. I really like Brandon Sanderson as an author in his own right and I was so happy when he took over the series after Robert Jordan's death. The reason why you should skip books 6 up until the last three are that the plot doesn't move forward at all. It's like Robert Jordan loved the series so much he didn't want to finish it.
