Never mind that unbelievable, amazing voice, he was a great guitarist, certainly underrated in the latter department. A lovely, generous man with a wicked - and often self-deprecating, sense of humor.

I was lucky to see Steve many times and he always gave his all. His talent was unlimited but to me his performances were tinged with sadness because of what he could have achieved. I could have cried when I saw him perform with "The Packet of three" at the Buddle in Wallsend which only held 150 people max. I know the lady who ran the venue and and she told me that she first met Steve when he was having a cup of tea with the cleaners. She told me that he was just a smashing bloke with no ego whatsoever. He is sadly missed!
met him backstage at a gig in 1989 and he was a gent , had time for us and was humble . This was after a gig that burnt down the place . He gave it EVERYTHING he had
I am a Clapton fan but he does become boring and predictable at times. Now this performance is raw and pure unadulterated blues. Just the way it should be. Love his playing. And that voice..... wow.
Love all this British blues rock. Think of all the great artists and groups that ermerged out of bands like the Small faces. Humble pie ,Jeff Beck group. Peter Frampton solo , The Faces , Rod Stewart.
S j f , how absolutely dead on. I don't really get the impression he cared too much about anything but music. No ego, no greed. I wish I could say I owed him just a tenner!

A shining star that blazed . 67 I saw The Who and Smalls @ Festival Hall in Melbourne . Steve is gone , the Ox is gone and Mad Moon long ago . They both tore up the venue but Steve still responsible for some Anthems that will live till the earth Implodes . Cheers from the Ancient Metal Guy .
Oh my lord that guitar work is top shelf 👍. I was only 9 years old at this 1985 point. I’d have chopped my little finger off to see this gig now. I will forgive his denim dungarees for the first few licks of chords on this one. Even reminds me of Hendrix some of that guitar work. Breathtaking.
Best Brit soul singer ever and my favourite musician of all time! I have (almost) every bit of plastic he has released. In the Humble Pie days I have seen him described as a guitar maestro but, in truth, his guitar playing was always just good solid support of Frampton and especially Clempson, (who is himself grossly underestimated). I saw the Pie many times live between '69 and '75 then in their various guises, Marriott's All Stars etc for a few years after. He was always amazing onstage. Freddy Mercury used to hold the audience spellbound in his hand during his solo "Day-oh-ee-da-day" solo spot, but I've seen Marriott do the same audience interaction years before filling a huge hall while standing in front of his mike stand singing unamplified! It seems that Steve had real confidence in his vocal abilities but was a little doubting of his guitar playing. Well here is Marriott doing what he always wanted to, showing that at last he is up there with the best of them on guitar, and still way beyond them on vocals. This is utterly AWESOME! It's a true masterclass of how to play electric blues guitar and sing. How sad he had to go when he was at last reaching this degree of skill. Genuine soul like this is found in only a select few each generation. "Bald headed fat little has been"? Couldn't be further from the truth Steve!
This vid played w/ Ten years After: Recorded Live - Slow Bluse in C is the perfect duet. One of the best jamers & one of the best voices in Rock & Roll history. I saw this vid and knew it sounded like Alvin Lee.
WOW! I knew Steve Marriott was a friggin awesome singer but I had no idea he was such a brilliant blues guitarist. This is right up there with the greats. Clapton, Page, Green etc
The blues had a baby 🍼 and named it rock n roll... Then rock n roll had a sexy side chick that birthed a legend, Steve Marriott ... the man could do it all. Absolutely amazing talent, soul, heart and a set of vocal chords that could make the Mona Lisa feel the blues.....
Totally smoked me on this. Fire and soul galore in the vocals I expected, but i think Steve's guitar playing here is the equal of anyone he ever played with. Great rendition any way you look at it.
Sorry cut off in mid flow! I have never experienced a more loved and influential performer as Steve Marriott who has been so badly treated and neglected in the music business! A true sadly neglected legend. God love him!!!
I love Zeppelin but have to say Stevie would upstage both Page and Plant at the same time. Maybe the English Stevie Ray Vaughan would be a better comparison. Saw him in Hyde Park with Humble Pie in '71, they were utterly awesome. When I get my hands on a time machine I'm going back there, I was 12-years old and - obviously -broke but they were the best days of my life, mainly because of the music . . . that and Lebanese Black!

Never mind that unbelievable, amazing voice, he was a great guitarist, certainly underrated in the latter department. A lovely, generous man with a wicked - and often self-deprecating, sense of humor.
good post. i only saw small faces when they were "packaged" - missed the main man in his prime [don't think he toured south america - did see/hear stan getz in Lima. something to remember]. at least some good shxt on you tube. Eat my shorts, mr jagger. steve the real thing.
Didn't realise he was this good. Knew he was soulful
Best white blues/soul voice ever.. No one else could do it like this man!..n i smile when I hear my grandsons blasting him out..bless you Steve.💕
My favorite rock and roll artist of all time. Great singer, great guitar player, great songwriter. RIP the little human dynamo Steve Marriot.
Soul,Blues,Country,Rock. He could do it all. none better.Tops!
25 too long years.....God how I miss this man. Best pipes of Rock and Blues in history.
Aggree!
Longshotsblues and a superb guitar player... 🎸👌
Longshotsblues-- I concur
if somebody like him burst onto the scene nowadays, people would lose their shit---in a good way.
Michael Colombo--Marcus King.
I am so happy that i saw him live on stage
Steve Marriott is like wine. He only got better with the years! Man! How you got smooth and put together! Absolutely awesome!
He's an Englishman blues master. That singing voice, man! Soulful!
The 2 people who disliked this probably need a doctor.
thank you; got a laugh!!!!!!
man, he is missed.
Jane Millerick
Sadly I only discovered him after his death, but I am glad I did.
+HungryHumbucker I don't need NO doctor ;)
I don't need no doctor
Fucking idiots how could anybody not like it.
met him backstage at a gig in 1989 and he was a gent , had time for us and was humble . This was after a gig that burnt down the place . He gave it EVERYTHING he had
What a performance! I didn’t know that he was that good!..He is as good as Clapton maybe even better!
ya' know, I just listened to Clapton's version and I agree with you, this is raw, bluesier, nastier and, well better to my ears!
ya' know, I just listened to Clapton's version and I agree with you, this is raw, bluesier, nastier and, well better to my ears!
Goosebumps on my goosebumps wish I could have saw this amazing blues rock singing playing man
Oh I could never forget Peter Green RIP but also the Late Great Stevie Ray Vaughn RIP who is def a top favorite of mine so Blue~~~
This is insane. And to think this went unknown to me at the time. Unbelievable talent !
such talent. I saw him at the Tunnel Club, Woolwich. sadly missed, he owed me a tenner.
must be worth a tenner to have all his shxt on you tube? best wishes
S j f , how absolutely dead on. I don't really get the impression he cared too much about anything but music. No ego, no greed. I wish I could say I owed him just a tenner!
You Sir were never, and never will be a "has been" Great under rated performer of all times
Stevie the greatest superstar i ever met and I've met a few. I named my son after him. Glad to have known you and experienced your amazing musical talent. God bless you.
This is real music 🎶 rock on 🤘
Best Brit soul singer ever and my favourite musician of all time!
Couldn't be further from the truth Steve!
good interesting comment. makes a change!
I hear what you're saying but I find his vocals a little harsh...not soulful like Paul Carrack....JMHO....
@@dinopappous6639 try the small faces, pipes were in better shape
Ever heard of Terry Reid ?? also an amazing singer guitarist.. check him out at Glastonbury 1971 with David Lindley on lap-steel very similar guys :)
@@dinopappous6639 years of smashing it probs took its toll ,plus 5he fact as ya get older your voice matures
My dad was his personal security on this tour. The stories..... what a ill bread gutter snipe! Lol one of the greatest.
Would you mind sharing some of those stories?
This vid played w/ Ten years After: Recorded Live - Slow Bluse in C is the perfect duet. One of the best jamers & one of the best voices in Rock & Roll history. I saw this vid and knew it sounded like Alvin Lee.
Greatly underrated Best frontman ever. A true musician and performer
WOW! I knew Steve Marriott was a friggin awesome singer but I had no idea he was such a brilliant blues guitarist. This is right up there with the greats. Clapton, Page, Green etc
Whoah!! Love Steve Marriot!! First time hearing this amazing !!!!
Total class.
Simply amazing, Steve Marriott was the best...........
Steve is the most underrated guitar player ever!!!
I watched and heard Humble Pie in Santa Monica in the 70's. Im still stoked to this day. 65 and still rockin.
Saw Steve a few times in Amsterdam and man that was a treat. Had our photo taken with him and talked for a while. Amazing artist!
For me still the best bluesrock singer.
Such a sad loss.. He was my favorite male vocalist ❤
Miss this guy
Sorry cut off in mid flow!
I have never experienced a more loved and influential performer as Steve Marriott who has been
so badly treated and neglected in the music business!
A true sadly neglected legend.
God love him!!!
Pure rock...Pure blues...Pure soul..The greatest of all time..
what a talent...he had it all. one of the most distinctive singers and a fabulous guitarist. the blues.
Unreal!! The best that ever lived!!
Wow! Steve Marriot does BB King! I never knew he could play like that; great singer also
Page and Plant rolled into one.
For sure!
@Jen Robbie SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRUE BABY.
Better than both
Marriott's still better than both of them, combined.
Love the music 💙💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙🎤🎸🌟⭐️💫
Never thought Steve could play the guitar that good
Damn I knew he could sing but didn’t know he played liked that. Sorry Mr. Frampton but you did right by leaving. This man is unreal
so one of the greatest voices in rock could really play some sweet blues guitar too. fantastic. thanks so much for this.
Absolutely brilliant from my favourite singer of all time. Great guitar playing too. That was ' da blooze'
i am now a big fan of this great musical genius known as steve marriot!!r.i.p.
